I'm typically a fan of thin-crust pizza, but Angie's thick crust is AMAZING! Â The crust was crunchy and not doughy at all. Â The crust is not Chicago deep dish, but is somewhat thick. Â Even if you're a thin crust fan, you should definitely try Angie's. Â My husband and I shared a half-n-half Hawaiian and Buffalo Chicken pizza. Â Both had ample topping and were delicious. Â The wait staff was friendly and attentive even though it was a relatively busy Tuesday night.
Review Source:We were vacationing in the area, visiting family and I had a list of places to try. Â This one was one that my husband picked as he had been there before when he visited last winter. Â He wasn't wrong. Â It's not classic New Haven style pizza, I think it's more Brooklyn style but whatever, wow it was so good. Â Hubby and I ordered a large sausage pizza to share and a side of meatballs. Â We could have done with a small, but that meant leftovers which is fine. Â Our daughter ordered spaghetti and meatballs and the son in law had a grilled chicken salad or something low carbish. Â Everyone loved what they had. Â I already miss that pizza but I suppose I'm glad it's a thousand miles from here, or I'd eat there a couple of times a week...
Review Source:My family and I love this pizza. We drive over from southern R.I. just to get it. Â It is a thicker-crust greek-style pizza and it is very delicious. Â We usually get a large special pizza which is like a supreme with everything on it, and a salad and that's enough for 3 people. Â We usually get take-out and wait in the bar and get some beers. Â We have, however, eaten in the dining room side and we found the service to be fast and friendly, you can also get pitchers of beer over there.
This pizza is very different from the pizza you can get in new haven where it's thin crust. Â Angie's pizza, imo, is WAY better than Mystic Pizza. Â Don't get sucked into the tourist trap!
From the reviews it seems like Angie's is hit or miss. In my recent experience, it was a total miss. The place is dingy, and filled with locals who drink alone and take drinks to go (at 1 P.M. in the afternoon).
The service is terrible, as the waitress while very sweet was also seriously scatterbrained. I am 99 percent sure that she forgot to put in the order for our pizza, as it took MORE THAN AN HOUR. We would have walked out, but we had already gotten our salad and were starving and tired from a long drive.
When our food finally came, it was like Pizza Hut pizza. Not terrible, but definitely not worth the wait.
A pitcher of Long Trail beer, a large Greek salad and a "special" pizza with mushrooms, onions, green pepper, ham, pepperoni and meatball was almost the perfect lunch when my husband and I arrived in Mystic. The waitress was an absolute sweetheart and very attentive.
The Greek salad was actually one of the better salads in recent memory...they didn't skimp on the olives or the feta cheese and the romaine lettuce was fresh and crisp. Actually they didn't skimp on any ingredients. I could have eaten the salad and been full but we got a small pizza as well.
It was loaded with toppings and had an excellent sauce to cheese ratio. The mushrooms were fresh (hurray) and the crust was amazing, especially the pieces where the cheese had melted onto it and gotten crackly. My husband and I fought over those pieces.
My husband and I pass by this place pretty often, as we live very close to Mystic and enjoy visiting the area as often as we can. Â One afternoon, we decided to stop into Angie's for a slice of pizza, since the reviews on Yelp were so promising. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
Well, what can I say? As the rating system say, "Meh, I've experienced better."  That pretty much sums it up for us. I found the dining area to be a bit dingy, and even thought the place was extremely slow inside, many tables sat with previous customers' plates and trash throughout our entire meal.  I thought to myself, "If the pizza is good, it'll make up for it."  However, Angie's pizza is really just very disappointing. It was "meh" at best. Â
Mediocre pizza, coupled with a grungy (and not in a charming way) interior, made this trip one of the more disappointing restaurant visits we've had in the area. I'm still not sure what I missed, seeing as other poster's are writing rave reviews. I think the only pizza joint in the area that I would rate worse than Angie's would be Mystic Pizza, "Where the pizza may taste like cardboard but hey! It's a movie!"
We didn't eat here, but instead stopped in for a few beers. They had a few good ones on tap and since it's such a small, divey place it had a very local feel. The bartenders were great and had no problems chatting us up and telling some jokes. Typical local dive bar. They have occasional live performers, and the small space makes it kind of tight.
Review Source:Get the Moussaka pizza!
On our drive back from NY to Boston, we stopped in Mystic for a bite to eat. Â We had passed by Angie's to get into the downtown area, but soon saw that the traffic was crazy being that it was beautiful Sunday afternoon and everyone was out and about. Â So, we turned around and decided to "settle" on Angie's. Â After all, there was parking, restrooms, and we were both in the mood for pizza. Â It totally hit the spot! Â We were so wrong to think we were settling. Â Thanks traffic for leading us to such a great meal!
Yum! Â If you're in Mystic, don't fall victim to the Mystic Pizza tourist trap, come here! Â The pizza is thick, almost pan-style but not, the toppings are delicious and plenty, and it definitely has that mom-and-pop feel. Â Good service and delicious pie.
Large three-topping was $14.95!
Okay, had to try this place last night. Â I've driven by there hundreds of times over the last couple years and always wondered.... Â Well, I would have to agree this is one of the best pizza's I've had around here. Â I took a friend out for a birthday and we stopped. Â The restaurant is quite plain. Â Very clean, with some art work on the walls, but plain. Â Service was excellent. Â Quick, polite, efficient. Â I wanted to try like half a dozen things on the menu, but Lisa S. wrote about a scallop and bacon pizza and we tried it. Â OMFG! Â What an incredible pizza. Â Perfect crust. Â Mouth-watering every bite. Â I will definitely be back! Â Oh and the price was good. Â Less than $25 for an order of mozz sticks, large pizza (FRESH scallops), and 4 cokes. Â I will be back there SOON!
Review Source:"The Pier," as it is affectionately known, is probably my favorite bar in Mystic- maybe even in Connecticut. Despite being basically a tiny sports bar- and sports are certainly not my "thing"- I. Love. The. Pier.
Sure, the food is pretty damned good. Angie's Pizza is the way I like it: Greek. Buttery, crispy crust- Angie's might make the best pizza in the state. But it's not just the pizza. The grinders are damned good, the fries are damned good, the gyros are definitely decent (Columbus has sort of spoiled me on amazing gyros), and the selection of beer and liquor is juuuuust riiiight.
Throw in touch screen games, a loud, obnoxious, offensive clientele and the fact that the place is small enough to feel like you're in someone's basement. Heaven. God damn!
So yeah, when I'm home, I live at the Pier. It's basically the only place I need to be in Connecticut.
Yummmmmmy greek pizza and fresh grinders make Angie's my default pizza restaurant. The gyro platter is a deliciously satisfying meal as well. It's not adventurous dining- it's exactly what a pizza restaurant should be, with food that's made exactly how you'd want it, for prices you'd expect. It's a comfort place, consistent and unpretentious, owned by people who will remember what your 'usual' is.
The connected Pier 27 lounge/bar area doesn't appeal to me as much simply because the atmosphere is a bit dark and dreary, but it's nice to have the choice.
My boyfriend hails from the Great Eastern State of Connecticut and every time we go back to visit, we spend most of our evenings at The Pier. It's carved out of a wall connected to Angie's Pizza and is extremely intimate with wooden paneling and wooden cozy booths.
The bar is small, at least in comparison to where I come from, but well stocked and very ornate. I can't speak for the prices, because everything feels too pricey for me coming from Columbus, Ohio.
You can order Angie's full menu from The Pier, and that has been my only association with their pizza.
Two toppings, ladies and gentlemen. Scallop and Bacon. Scallop and Bacon Pizza. That's all that really needs to be said.
Oh, and they have other great seafood toppings, plus a large menu that includes sandwiches, calzones, burgers and salads. But hello, Scallop and Bacon Pizza. Why would you want anything else?
