Christopher's

Funny enough I'm going to reference Sarah A.'s review on this place - she's got it pretty darn spot on. The food is good solid bar food and that is why we keep going back in addition to it's proximity to our home.

If there were two things that I wish they'd fix it would be the cliquey nature of the place and the boxed wine. Sometimes I'm really not in the mood for beer and would like a glass of wine - the mere fact that they can't find a decent bottle seems odd to me.

I would be remiss if I forgot to mention some of the highlights of the food which is Christopher's strength - the mac and cheese is incredible and I'd order a vat of it any day. Their salads are huge and fresh and the pulled pork sandwich is pretty darn tasty.

There's lots to like about Christopher's. The locals here (i.e. the bartenders) have to start understanding that those of us who move in from out of town can be a good customer base and to start being a bit more friendly and service oriented.

The first few times by boyfriend and I visited this place, we thought it was our new hangout. They had karaoke on Thursday nights and it's hard to find karaoke around here. The bartenders were really nice, the food is pretty darn good, and our first night there, one of the owner's actually bought us a drink to welcome us to the area. Soonafter, however, we noticed all this was mostly for show. Whoever they were hiring for karaoke was ALWAYS late, never prepared for setup, and would leave in the middle of the show, placing his flavor of the week in charge with no idea how to run the system. Many of the patrons are very aggressive and the bartenders certainly don't have a policy about cutting off obvious drunks. Our first impression was that it was a kitchy dive with good food, but it seems now just to be trashy and cliquey. The bartenders are fairly condescending.

BUT I will stand by my statement that the food is good and we still do stop in from time to time on a Sunday afternoon (the mac and cheese is amazing). I would just avoid the night scene like the plague, and as long as you don't mind sore losers during Sunday football, I would suggest giving it a shot.

Can you rate less than 1? Don't waste your time. They'll tell you they're not open to the public and you'll drive away thirsty even though there's less than 10 people there. Let the elderly drunks have this place and drive your ass to Mystic where the good bars are.
