I've lived in Pinole for two years and have just recently decided to go and grab a drink at Antler's. My friend and I walked in on a Thursday night and sat at the bar. The place wasn't too crowded, but it was dead either. When we sat, one of the bartenders, a woman, gave us a sideways glance and then proceeded to ignore us. It wasn't until a gentleman sitting beside me waved her down and asked her to take our orders did she FINALLY decide to take my order. The other bartender there, an older guy, was much nicer. Maybe she was having a bad day, or maybe it was because we were the only NON-white people at a bar, but that lady definitely needs to learn some customer service. This place gets 2 stars for their cheap strong drinks, and a decent beer selection. However, I'd rather pay a little more money and go to Pear St across the street for better service.
Review Source:Sort of divey and even redneck. Â On the upside, some good drinks, reasonable prices, and a couple of attentive bartenders. Â And I do have a certain gratitude to the place for serving as my lifeboat back in 2001 in the interregnum (which I think of as the Dark Ages) between the closing of Tommy's and the opening of Pear Street Bistro.
Review Source:This place cracks me up. It's a movie set, it's a hick bar, it's a college bar, locals and people just passing through all wrapped up in a beer soaked bowl of pretzels. My friends enjoyed a good selection of booze inside it's time warped walls. Wanna get beat at a game of pool? Just don't wrestle with the "Norm"s holding down the barstools.
Review Source:I feel like everytime I step foot in this place I feel like I'm at a meeting for the Pinole chapter of the NRA, or see a bunch of Pinole/Hercules kids I went to school with try to act like they came from Oakland or Richmond - please. This bar along with the Green Lantern up the street would easily be on my list of places to avoid going to. It's a bar, nothing else to write about. But they do have a surprisingly diverse beer selection even though 90% of the beer drinkers in Pinole drink Bud or Miller and I've been known to sip on PBR. Service is OK even during the crushtime of Thanksgiving eve.
Review Source:Great local dive bar - 4 stars for being a good dive. They serve food until 8 or 9 every evening I think, but that's not what I would come here for. We go for the beers, friendly people on both sides of the bar, and because it's close. We did show up on a Friday where they had a dj and the place was hopping.
Review Source:I've eaten lunch at Antlers a few times and have been pleasantly surprised. Â I've had the burger or one of the sandwiches, and they have all tasted really good. Â The meat seems especially fresh and is not the frozen cookie cutter shape. Â The bun rolls also seem to be decent quality and the fries were crisp and tasty. Â Overall, a nice place to eat lunch. Â Sure, it's a bar, but the food is still pretty good.
Review Source:I drove up from Livermore a couple days ago to meet with a friend here and barhop Pinole. Â We started here and went to a few other places, but this one is my favorite of the ones we went to that night. Â I immediately felt welcome here by both the bartender and the patrons. Â It's a very relaxing envoironment with a juke box, pool, tv's everywhere, just like a regular dive bar. Â I haven't had the food here, so I can't say anything about that, but the drinks are good and they serve Shock Top on tap! Â My favorite! Â I can't remember how much they were, but I know it wasn't a lot. Â I think about average dive bar prices.
All in all, I had a lot of fun here and I hope to be able to come back soon and often!
My wife and I just had the Prime Rib dinner which we enjoyed very much. However, the elderly waitress was rude and really needs to retire. Her attitude really spoiled our dinning experience. Maybe she's going through menopause or men don't pause. I recommend that the management speak to her about being a little more pleasant to their patrons.
Review Source:Thank you George for proving my point. I would agree that most people don't go to a tavern for table service, they go straight to the bar and order a drink. I would also agree the bartenders are friendly... to the regulars who pony up to the bar! You say, "Antlers does not pretend to be anything it is not." uh, yeah they do! At least when I went in there on Friday for lunch. They had a big sign out front saying that they served lunch. When I go into any establishment for food, I expect service! Since you say its just a tavern, maybe I should have just walked back into their kitchen and placed my order!
Review Source:This is a neighborhood bar that serves food. Â It is a good bar and serves good food! Â Antler's does not pretend to be anything that it is not. Â Table service....really...that's is not what I go to a local tavern for. Â The bartenders are friendly and capable and real and the drinks and food are very reasonable! Â Great local spot and local color!
Review Source:$5 shots of patron is unheard of in So. Cal but who's complaining?
With miserable rains keeping our clan indoors for the last couple of days a few of my cousins and I put on our warm weather clothes, shook off this cabin fever and hit the town- well the dive bars in the neighborhood. First stop, Antlers Tavern.
Our expectations were met as we street parked the ride and peered over to the bar; music thumping and bodies swaying behind steaming windows of the joint. Jackpot!
Club hit after club hit was playing on the speaker system and my cousins and I made our way to the bar dodging the older females group dancing in their venue appropriate attire of sports team jerseys, crushed-velvet spaghetti tops and muffin-top hugging acid washed jeans. I think we were the youngest one's there. Anyway, back to the main focus shall we? Alcohol. Not a very good selection of beers on tap to choose from but the total price for our top shelf shots and beer came to (i think) a mouth-dropping $18 bucks. I'll drink to that! It was a great kick off to our bar hopping night in good ole Pinole.
During the week at lunch, Antlers makes these sandwiches which I happen to crave pretty often. I love their grilled cheese or grilled cheese with ham. Their French fries are really good, just the perfect crisp. The way the sandwich is grilled is what I love, the cook puts it on the stove and makes sure the bread has the extra crisp goodness. They also make a Philly cheese steak sandwich that is also really good, I seldom order it though because they don't make the bread with that crisp I love. :-p
The beer selection at Antlers is really good and I also just really like the bartenders. They're super friendly, they get some good banter going and I just really enjoy going to Antlers. Its clean, reasonably priced with good food and I know I'll always be laughing, having a good time. Definitely the place to hit up for a good lunch in downtown Pinole.
Love the Antlers, right in the center of town, you can see all your friends and family driving by. Â Windows are always open so you can drive by to see who's out and about. Â Beautiful interior, old world turn of the century charm. Â The owner Goeff has done great things managing the place. Â It's a fun place to meet up with friends, get a quick lunch on the weekdays or have a really good affordable dinner Thursday (NY steak) or Friday night (prime rib). Â Way to go Goeff!!!!!
Review Source:I walked in here one Sunday looking to watch a Football game. Â There were a number of locals sitting at the bar already watching. Â I got stared down hard. Once I pulled up to the bar, the bartender was so rude about not airing the game I was hoping to see, and the unwelcome atmosphere in this place, if you werent already an insider. Â I finally just left. Â What a let down.
Review Source:"i love this bar, it's my kinda place....just walkin through the front door, puts a big smile on my face!"
For a younger crowd with a chill atmosphere with a little dancing to the jukebox, thursday is the night! I hardly ever miss a thursday at the lers! ya, im a regular...and dave aka mississippi and logan are my favorite bartenders ever....and everyone elses!!
it's cheap and drinks are STRONG. open till 1:30 am.
Fridays are fun with dj jim and joe! great music...mostly hip hop.
you might get stared at when you walk in and you're not a local/regular...but thats just cuz we wonder who you are!! everyone is very friendly, as long as you're good people!!
and p.s. don't underestimate those famous cosmos and woo wooz
Three stars for what it is, a local bar where the point is booze.
Other reports are spot on. Heads turn and new people get a brief glance when walking in. Don't make eye contact and you are left alone.
There's a nightly dinner special that is super cheap and not bad. Prices went up recently, but it is still a deal. Order at the bar and a few minutes later pick up the food served on a plastic plate.
There's only one nightly meal. If you ask for a menu, it gives the locals entertainment value.
Good smoky tri-tip that was pink in the middle, served with corn on the cob and soupy beans with pieces of beef.
There's a pool table and a bunch of TVs in various locations broadcasting sports programs or tuned to the lottery channel Â
Often there's food for special events like crab feeds for the Super Bowl or corned beef or cabbage for St Patrick's Day.
A big moose head on one wall is a nod to the bar's name ... Antlers.
I got so wasted here one night that I puked in the parking lot, cried for my mommy and had to be picked up by friends that also had to drive my date home. Â So the moral of the story is to not drink 7 cosmos and a double shot of tequila in one sitting. Â Especially if you only weigh about a buck twenty-five like me. Â The locals are...interesting, but if you grew up in West County then you know what I'm talkin' 'bout Willis. Â You don't go here to be seen, you go here to hide and drink. Â Newbie's don't stare at the locals or make prolonged eye contact, it's not safe and you might get attention that you thought was unsolicited. Â Which it would be...if you hadn't made eye contact first. Â Just pretend it's an everyday thing to see a one-eyed gold-toothed biker.
Review Source:A total local's bar. Â I grew up in the area, and my friends insisted that we complete one of our rites of passage by going to Antlers awhile ago. Â The bartender seemed really surprised to see anyone under 30 coming in, and carded us and looked at us suspiciously for awhile. Â After we passed his music recognition test ("I bet you kids don't even know who this is (referring to the music playing at the time)." "Yah, its the Beatles. Â Who doesn't know the Beatles?" Silence. ... "Ok, what do you kids want to drink?") he seemed to be ok with us being there. Â The bar seems to be open late on random nights - one weekend we drove by around 12am and it was closed, other nights we'll see it open till 1ish. Â Mostly locals, cheap drinks, knowledgeable bartender, chill atmosphere.
