My friends hired Dewayne Oakley as their wedding musicians last weekend based on my recommendation - I'd seen Dewayne at the Berkeley farmers market two years ago and remembered him from then - he's the kind of person that just radiates light and warmth, in addition to being a very accomplished jazz player (upright bass and singer). Â His standards are upbeat, heartfelt and he brings such a great presence! Â At the farmers market he was with a drummer, and at the wedding he was with a guitarist - both times the music was excellent. Â I'd hire him for my wedding!
Review Source:Incredible music. Blues, with soul and a modern humor. Â Dewayne Oakley and his band play every Saturday and Sunday at Mocca Cafe, on Maiden Lane in Union Square. Â
But they also do events!
They provided the music for our wedding and it was fantastic - they created the perfect mood. Â Because of limited space at our venue, we only had two band members - but Dewayne usually plays with at least three (guitar, drums).
Communication is best in person - head over to Mocca for lunch and talk to Dewayne. Â They were great to work with, very personable and warm. They showed up right on time, smartly dressed in crisp tuxedos. We told them to play whatever they wanted - they played "One Step Behind" as I walked down the aisle - it could not have been more perfect!
For a memorable, romantic event, I highly recommend The Dewayne Oakley Blues Ensemble!
