I'm a frequent flyer out of richmond airport, traveling at least  2 weeks out of the month.  I've never thought much of the Applebee's and past by it all the time.  The unfortunate thing is that it is located before you cross security check point.  Therefore, for most travelers, we prefer to get through that mess before grabbing a bite to eat. And if you are connecting through Richmond, you would have exit the terminal and reenter through security. (nobody is going to do that, even for unlimited riblets)  The food selection is pretty dismal on the west side of the terminal, so if you have time, Applebee's is the option for decent, hot food.  They also offer a to go counter, which I may have to check out next time.
My boyfriend does enjoy the convenience of Applebee's, as he waits for many of my arrivals. Â The bar always has a seat and a friendly bartender. Â The restaurant has great views and monitors above the bar with arrival and departure information. Â
Normally, I would not give an Applebee's a 4 star, but the convenience and great service, factor more heavily than just the food quality. Â It is a very typical Applebee's, nothing fancy. Â Food is consistently average. Â Price is average. Â
I found that the service was exceptional. Â The waitstaff, hostess, and bartender were genuine, attentive and friendly. Â I have only been here once, so I'm not sure if the service is consistent. Â However, I was seated right away, the waitress, Stephanie, was perfect. Â Checked on me appropriately and provided good service. Â She must have been working at this location awhile because more than one patron struck up a friendly , personal conversation. Â
I will stop by again if I have time in the future. Â However, due to the location of the restaurant, it isn't feasible to travelers to venture in. Â But for awaiting visitors and much delayed flights, you need to stop in for a bite or a drink.
