Mars Bar

an update to my review tonight friday july 19'th is the LAST night mars is open as of saturday they are CLOSED

Smoking-friendly. Great food. Few people there on the nights I've visited. Friendly, intelligent, bartenders who can definitely carry a conversation if you need them to.

One words sums this place up and it is...ODD.

I have never been to a place like this in my life and I say this mostly because of the crowd. I have been here a few times and the crowd varies drastically.

The bar itself doesn't really differ from any other bar. I guess the 80's music they play sets it apart.

Now I have been to every sort of bar there is....hip-hop, club, upscale, frat boy type, sports bars, biker, small town, country, punk, metal, hipster...you get the point. I have never seen a place that has all of this in one. It makes for an interesting experience and vibe.

So when I say this place is ODD, it is mostly because I have never been to a place with such an eclectic crowd. I think that is a great thing BTW.  Odder still are a select few of the people on the dance floor. Some need to go home and bang it out in the bedroom, not the dance floor and others just look like maybe they came from outer space and have never seen dancing before in their life! Not judging, just telling the facts. I love to dance and this was a bummer because I didn't feel comfortable dancing here. I bet it would have been entertaining for everyone else though! Two words. Motley crew. :)

In all fairness, this is not my type of place or crowd so that would explain the two star rating. I like places with a more predictable crowd. I like to know what I am in for if I am going to be out drinking and in my experience each type of bar has a different feel about it and I know when I am going out what I am in the mood for.

If you are someone who is trying to find an unusual place that you would "fit in", then this is your place. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE is accepted here.
