We are SO disappointed. They changed the very best menu item, the beef brisket sandwich. It has been replaced with a sandwich with a marinade that is not nearly as yummy, cheese that isn't half as good, and added mustard that doesn't pair well. PLEASE SWITCH BACK ON THE ROX!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review Source:This place is probably a great bar. Â They promote great happy hour deals on both food and drinks and it seems to draw a crowd. Â The food, for bar fare, is ok and pretty affordable. Â I had a shrimp appetizer that was pretty tasty and included five large shrimp in a white wine sauce (I wanted the mussels, but they were out). Â For dinner, I had the special mac and cheese with crab and bacon. Â It was pretty good and a large portion. Â My boyfriend had the brisket sandwich which was pretty bad. Â It was dry and bland. Â The fries were good, though. Â The service was friendly. but kind of slow, even when they weren't that busy.
Review Source:I went to On the Rox on a whim the other night with two friends. We were "scoping out" the venue since my friend's band is playing there in a couple weeks. I had a Yelp! check-in mobile coupon for 25% off (props!) but forgot to use it (rats). Luckily I can use it when I come back for the show, but point is: I definitely like to see perks for Yelpers!
One thing I noticed right away on the menu was the note at the bottom that said vegetarian and vegan options were available. So, naturally, I asked if there was a veggie burger to replace the beef patties on their regular burgers. Negatory. That was a little frustrating, but I made a meal of the truffle fries appetizer and the small salad. Both were delicious, but on a hungrier evening I'd end up spending $15-$20 for a pescatarian entree, compared to the $10 and under veggie burger I was led to believe existed.
They had a pretty good draft beer selection and more in bottles. The waitstaff was nice, and the space itself is really cool and open. Parking stinks as it's just street, but it's in Shockoe so that's to be expected.
I definitely look forward to coming back here for happy hour and maybe brunch, but I probably won't be coming back for dinner unless I'm ready to shell out some more money or until they whip out some frozen Boca burgers for their vege/pescatarian customers!
