Arni's in Lafayette is legendary - many years ago they opened a few restaurants around the state. quality at these other arni's (with a little "a" for effect) has never been as good as the original. I moved to Columbus several years ago and quickly learned not to order pizza here - basically the taste and value of the Columbus pizzas are literally an insult to anyone familiar with the original. They put a lame amount of toppings on their pizzas - basically every one you get is just a cheese pizza with a scattering of anything else, not like the original where the toppings were piled so high that it was hard not to have some falling off while trying to get a bite into your mouth. That left arni's junior salads and subs. The juniors are still okay - although the accompanying garlic bread has gone from two slices to one and again the quality is falling, that one piece rarely is hot and moist. The subs - well, the last one gave me food poisioning (I'm serious - i was in bed for four days), so I have given up on them entirely. For someone who grew up two blocks from the original restaurant, this has been the saddest experiences of moving to Columbus - do yourself a favor and drive up to Lafayette and try the original - on a good day, the Lafayette location in Market Square is still fantastic (but they too have bad days, but aren't consistently bad like the Columbus operation).
Review Source:The service was fine.
I had a salad and my BF had a pizza.
both of them were not special. Personally, it was "at home" meal...
salad - yah, nothing better than what you can do.
pizza - I rather stay home and bake frozen pizza.
but there were lots of people. so, some people like the normal-home kind of taste...
First of all, Arni's is not an Italian restaurant. Â Anyone thinking that Arni's is an Italian restaurant has probably been smoking something illegal.
Arni's is a family owned restaurant that has been around central and southern Indiana for decades. Â The menu does happen to include pizzas and pastas, but they also have many types of sandwiches and fried foods as well. Â The restaurant is filled with knick-knacks and posters proudly displaying history and culture of Indiana - usually local to whatever town you happen to be in. Â This particular location has been around for years and I've always loved their pizzas and friendly service. Â I've recently grown fond of their sandwich, The Gutbuster, appropriately named for its variety of unhealthy ingredients. Â I've been away from Columbus for many years now, but when I'm home for the holidays, Arni's is one of the few restaurants I go out of my way to stop in at.
I'm not a fan of Arni's.
Went here once with my family years ago. Â The pasta was overcooked, and the pizza wasn't that great. Â The service was pretty slow.
There aren't many Italian places in Columbus, but I think I'd rather drive to Indianapolis or Greenwood for better Italian food. Â For pizza, I'd probably prefer Noble Romans, Snappy Tom's, or any of the major chains before I'd seek out Arni's.
