Amelia is my absolute FAVORITE bartender!! I recently moved to Bend and she single handedly has made Astro by far my favorite place to grab a cocktail. Â She is always smiling and friendly and serving up new inventive drinks! Â Tell her what you like and she will make you the best cocktail you have EVER tasted!
Review Source:Two-ounce shots! Â You were pretty bomb-diggity. Â $45 for three Jamesons and three Fireballs? Â Not too shabby either (especially since they were two-ounce pours).
It's got a pretty happening scene for a Saturday night, live DJ, and apparently bars in Oregon have to serve food, so you can get your drink on while snacking on appetizers, or order a second dinner!
I have only visited during happy hour on weekdays since I'm bringing my family (small kids) and am not into the 'club' thing. Â That being said, my wife and I love this place. Â
Pros: Excellent food and the happy hour pricing is killer. Â Nightly drink specials are a plus. Â I enjoy their Pizza and kids love the mac and cheese.
Cons: No highchairs for the kiddos. Â More of an FYI than a 'con'.
Great pizza at a good price. The perfect crust is made in house and is crunchy on the outside/ chewy on the inside. We split the the duck confit pizza which was plenty for two and showcased smokey chunks of bacon, creamy goat cheese  and sweer/savory onion jam. I couldnt really taste the duck. Sadly, the duck confit pizza is being removed from the menu and astro will no longer be open for lunch. The atmosphere is a bit cold but perfect for a casual affordable meal after shopping and the menu is really fun. Can't wait to try the polenta and shrimp!
Review Source:Went on a Thursday evening. It wasn't busy. Bartender was good but waitress was extremely slow and unattentive. We saw our food order sitting in the window, getting cold, waiting for her to bring it to our table while she was busy eating chips off a plate in the window and chatting with what appeared to be a friend, not a customer. Food was decent considering. Another night I came with a group of 10 girls and after 10-15 mins of sitting down without on server coming to our table we left.
Review Source:Saturday night, live music, ridiculous crowd and we somehow got there early enough to vulture the second booth from the stage. The Quick and Easy Boys played. quote" Imagine the Minutemen, My Morning Jacket, and Funkadelic rolled into one."
the dozens of specialty drinks will knock into next week (pint glasses mostly, except that one that comes in a GIANT 18" martini glass which my girl FORBID me from having).
the service is amazing (I've never been hugged for ordering a drink before).
definitely a "younger" crowd, great ratio, but hey, the 35-45 y.o. VCs we partied with the next night were apparently three booths down and had a BLAST too.
Then the table next to us invited us to come to Summit with them around midnight. Â
We thought...can it really get better than THIS?
Oh yeah... and it did.
...to be continued.
Astro has an amazingly well-stocked bar. Â They carry virtually any liquor you could ask for, have a nice beer selection (I didn't look into the wine list), and serve up some very high quality apps and salads (I haven't yet been in for a full meal, but what I saw looked excellent). Â It's right in the middle of downtown Bend, making it walking distance from tons of other night spots. Â Oh, and the staff is unbelievably attractive. Â Unbelievably. Â Also very good at their jobs.
Review Source:Doorman was nice, but it was all downhill from there.
We came into town on a Friday evening, looking for drinks and snacks, and were walking down the street. The Astro's doorman encouraged us to come in. Okay.
We found a small table outside. We sat there as the waitstaff passed us by ... and passed by... and passed by... we even made eye contact, but not so much as a "be right with you". As the evening wore on and we became more thirsty and more hungry, with no respite in sight, we decided we'd be better off ANYWHERE else, and that was the end of the Astro for us.
If you are a masochist, this is the place for you! Truly pathetic "service."
We loved the food at former location. Overall, I'd go back, but the experience was not exceptional. NOTE: Happy hour is 4-7pm, which is later than anywhere else downtown. My first visit to new location was on a Saturday night during a big downtown event. GREAT menu offerings, hours, and prices. But...
First, we got weird looks when we entered at 6pm with 2 kids in tow, and were told "Kids aren't allowed to be seated after 7, and they must be out by 8." No problem. So we perused the menu (one per table!?) and found some tempting choices. Local beer on tap was on special for happy hour, but only had IPA's and blonde bombshell (yuk!); I would have preferred a hefe or something, anything less bitter. Ordered one anyway; it never came. But at least we weren't billed for it.
To eat, we ordered the arugula salad which was outstanding (even though they were out of arugula and I said OK to sub mixed greens). Very tasty and LOTS of hazelnuts, in fact could've had half the nuts. And only $6! Burger with lots of blue cheese and fantastic crispy sweet potato fries: $6. Kids Mac & cheese: excellent. Astro piza (proscuitto and roasted tomatoes) was WAY too salty, almost inedible. Use less proscuitto! I also ordered a beet salad, which never came, but was on our bill. Hmm.
Server was friendly and attentive but stuff just took too long and why did so items (beer, beet salad) get missed? Restaurant was annoyingly loud--we were yelling at our own table without realizing it. Then, credit card machine wasn't working so we paid cash and left.
I would try again, but geez, better fix these bugs in new location or else Astro will be in trouble! I give it 3 stars because despite the service issues, the food was good and a very good value at Happy Hour.
