This place is now called Mr. Beez. Â It is still owned and operated by the same gentleman who owns the Parke Hotel and Conference center. Â You will often find the owner on the premises, and tonight was no exception. Â
The bar is non-descript and could use a makeover, although it is very new. Â This place could be really cool with a relatively modest investment. Â
The food is ok. Â The owner tells me he has one of the best chefs in Bloomington, but sadly it does not show through in the bar fare. Â That said, I enjoy their fish and chicken sandwiches. Â Their salads are fresh and have more ingredients than the standard house salads served at similar places. Â Price is right. Â
If they could broadcast ISU road games and advertise as such, this place would be hopping. Â I'd like to see this place succeed.
My wife and I went here for Sunday brunch because it was attached to our hotel. The brunch was one of the reasons I chose this hotel.
The brunch had two tables of casseroles, breakfast foods, and salad. There was another table with two carvings (ham and beef) along w/ an omelet bar and waffles. There was also an entire table of desserts with a giant "vat" of dippable chocolate.
Pros - Variety of foods - a couple very good ones including shrimp cocktail and a casserole with ?feta? cheese. The dessert bar was enormous including fresh pineapple and strawberry.
Cons - No foods blew me away.
I mainly sampled everything. A few were good and a few were bad, but I would recommend this to anyone. But $16 is a a lot for brunch.
