Although the Az(zzzzzzz) can be as smoky as other dive bars, and it's true that sometimes the bartenders can be colossal dicks, I've had some great times here. Â I don't think that I would say that I've ever seen it crowded, but I've seen it busy at the bar.
Bring cash, as you can't use debit or credit. Â There's no food within, so arrive with vittles in your tummy.
Never seen a fight here, but if it's after 11 or so, the possibility of the drunks in here getting a wild hair to engage in MMA is approximately zero.
Go check it out. Â Some people love it, some people hate it, but it's a solid bar with lots of history and even if you are from out of town, you won't be shunned.
If you're a barfly at all you know that one's choice of bar is a very personal selection that cannot be based upon internet hype. Â With that in mind, I still feel obligated to communicate the greatness that is the Z.
If your idea of a great bar is dark and smoky with a decent jukebox and a barkeep with a heavy pour, this is your bar. Â The patrons are always quite interesting, so if you're new to town and looking to meet fun folks, hit up the Z.
Since this place isn't anything fancy, my review won't be either. Â
The good: CHEAP CHEAP drinks, lots of parking, conveniently located between East Hill and downtown Pensacola, interesting staff and patrons
The bad: The only music you are gonna get here is whatever you select (and pay for) from the jukebox, smoky smoky smoky, interesting staff and patrons
The ugly: Did I mention this place is smoky? Â You will come out of here with burning eyes and a desire to deep clean your hair and every peace of clothing you have on, not excluding underwear.
