My gosh I love this place. Often finding myself in the neighborhood at a few local lounges and/or divey bars, I stopped in here a few years ago and stop by whenever I'm around.
I'm not one for fancy mixed drinks. Im more of a wine/beer guy, but they regularly have some REALLY cool mixed drinks. With a regularly changing drink menu, they're always fresh and interesting twists.
Additionally, after some of the crowded nearby spots, this is a breatj of fresh air (literally). Plenty of space, seats, and lower decibel level music to enjoy more intimate discussion with friends. You came out with them...why not enjoy some chill time with them rather than packed into a place where you have to scream to even communicate like neanderthals.
Oh and appetizers....dope spot for some grub as well. Again, quirky menu and fun eats.
ATMOSPHERE: The sofas, pillows and general atmosphere are quite relaxing. Azucar embraces the lounge aspect of lounges, while still remaining classy.
SERVICE: The staff could be just a little more attentive, but on the whole they are above average. They are quick with advice, friendly and will come to you.
DRINKS: The cocktails aren't necessarily "bad" (excluding the bland Nona), but the festive nature of the drinks somewhat clashes with environment. I kind of wanted more warming drinks. This is where they could improve the most.
This place has a great vibe and the decor is festive/classy. Â The bartender also whips up some fantastic drinks.
I just wish I was more blown away by the food. Â Believe me, a good salsa will bring me to my knees. Â Azucar's definitely kept me on my chair. Â While it was extremely fresh, it was just missing something. Â I also ordered the veggie quesadilla. Â The crema was super tasty, but the dish lacked some major ... um.. grease/flavor. Â I mean, you just can't replace grilled seasoned meat with zucchini. Â
I've heard about the Taco Tuesdays, sounds glorious, I'll come back to try them out!
