My gosh I love this place. Often finding myself in the neighborhood at a few local lounges and/or divey bars, I stopped in here a few years ago and stop by whenever I'm around.
I'm not one for fancy mixed drinks. Im more of a wine/beer guy, but they regularly have some REALLY cool mixed drinks. With a regularly changing drink menu, they're always fresh and interesting twists.
Additionally, after some of the crowded nearby spots, this is a breatj of fresh air (literally). Plenty of space, seats, and lower decibel level music to enjoy more intimate discussion with friends. You came out with them...why not enjoy some chill time with them rather than packed into a place where you have to scream to even communicate like neanderthals.
Oh and appetizers....dope spot for some grub as well. Again, quirky menu and fun eats.
ATMOSPHERE: The sofas, pillows and general atmosphere are quite relaxing. Azucar embraces the lounge aspect of lounges, while still remaining classy.
SERVICE: The staff could be just a little more attentive, but on the whole they are above average. They are quick with advice, friendly and will come to you.
DRINKS: The cocktails aren't necessarily "bad" (excluding the bland Nona), but the festive nature of the drinks somewhat clashes with environment. I kind of wanted more warming drinks. This is where they could improve the most.
This place has a great vibe and the decor is festive/classy. Â The bartender also whips up some fantastic drinks.
I just wish I was more blown away by the food. Â Believe me, a good salsa will bring me to my knees. Â Azucar's definitely kept me on my chair. Â While it was extremely fresh, it was just missing something. Â I also ordered the veggie quesadilla. Â The crema was super tasty, but the dish lacked some major ... um.. grease/flavor. Â I mean, you just can't replace grilled seasoned meat with zucchini. Â
I've heard about the Taco Tuesdays, sounds glorious, I'll come back to try them out!
Came in tonight for drinks and dinner and had an awesome meal. We sat at the bar as HH was ending so the tables were all taken which ended up being great because we got to watch all the drinks being made. Eduardo was very friendly and attentive though he was super busy making drinks all night. Tried the Herb drink which was light and refreshing and hubby had the jalapeno beer which was surprisingly  spicy. We shared the tacos (fish tacos were super tasty) and the ceviche which we enjoyed both and got fairly full. Overall good food, different tasty drinks including a carrot margarita, friendly staff, and relaxing décor. Cant wait to come back for unlimited taco Tuesday.
p.s. they do not serve pina coladas-- so don't ask
In desperate need of a drink, my friend and I stumbled upon this place and instantly loved the vibe. I'm not sure if it was due to Gay Pride going on, but we were all singing along to "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Beat It" loudly. They have comfortable couches and chairs around the restaurant of you can chill up at the bar. You don't seat yourself and someone comes around and takes your order. Their $6 cocktail of the day was called "Skittles" and it was pretty awesome. Vodka, strawberry, rosemary syrup, lemon, blue curacao... All in all, Azucar is a pretty lively place with some darn good cocktails.
Review Source:After settling in at the hotel, we thought we would try our luck at a few neighborhood spots to get a feel of what a night in San Francisco had to offer.  After closing up shop at Tank 18 , the staff was helpful enough to direct us to a far more lively and diverse establishment and atmosphere in Azucar.  Upon arriving, we were a bit thrown off by the place as it looked far more casual with a mix of someone's living room and a Chinese takeout establishment.  Décor was a bit bazaar but unique to say the least.  Being told that there was a wait for a couch (or rather a place in the living room), we found seats at the bar.  A lucky feat considering the bar consisted of maybe 6 chairs. Â
Once at the bar, our attention was quickly diverted from the basketball game on the one flat screen TV to the staff who was humorous and incredibly welcoming. Â The drink menu was pretty impressive, however, the execution of our first two drinks was a bit off. Â A little too heavy handed on the habanero tincture deemed our first drinks way to savory and spicy to be refreshing. Â Despite the slight hiccup in these drinks, our experience only grew as the staff really warmed up to us and welcomed us "home" with an incredibly nice gesture in providing us with complimentary house shots. Â These cucumber-esque shots were a complete turnaround from our first drinks, so much that my girlfriend ordered the shot in a more substantial form as her next drink. Â
This truly appears to be an establishment that prides themselves on keeping and being true to regulars.  Although we didn't try their Mexican inspired street food, were a bit adverse to their setup and décor at first, had an only average acceptance of their Latin inspired cocktails, it was the atmosphere and interactions with the bartenders that had us thoroughly impressed and wishing we could be regulars too.
This is a fun, casual little lounge to hang out in the SoMa area. Came here for snacks and birthday drinks for a friend.
{DRINKS}
All of their signature cocktails are only $9 (minus $1 during HAPPY HOUR from 5-7 PM daily). I tried the FIESTA MARGARITA (avion silver tequila, lime juice, fresh carrot juice, ginger syrup). The carrot juice really surprised me in adding a mellow sweet flavor to this drink. They also have an extensive wine and spirits list.
{FOOD}
Their homemade chips paired nicely with their spicy salsa and guac (I liked the salsa for its fiery kick). Veggie quesadillas were also delicious (loved the crunch of the cucumbers in the middle of cheesy goodness and the chipotle dipping sauce), but they were a bit on the smaller side. Mac n' cheese had a nice smokey jalepeno flavor and it was perfect to go along with our drinks. My favorite thing was the CHURROS with CHOCOLATE CREME sauce - deliciously decadent!
{SERVICE}
We came with a group 9 right at the beginning of their happy hour. They seated us right away and we all got cozy on the couches in the front. The waitress was friendly and happy to explain the different drinks to us.
{ATMOSPHERE}
Personally I think the decor adds to the charm and quirkiness of this spot. It's cozy but very clean, even the bathrooms. Â You can either lounge on the couches with a big group or sit at the smaller tables along the walls for a more intimate setting. If you download the ROCKBOT app on your smartphone you can queue up songs to be played - like a virtual jukebox! This adds to fun atmosphere here (unless you get that guy who chooses three Owl City songs in a row...seriously??). You can hear Madonna, Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake, and Backstreet Boys all within the span of one hour.
Please note:
- Gratuity of 20% is automatically included with parties of 6 or more.
Since a couple of my friends just moved to the city 1 block away from here, I expect to visit again in the future. Definitely looking forward to it! Cheers.
Came here after work with the roomy and I am so happy I did.  Sat at the bar watching the Warriors game and had the best time chatting it up with the staff.  Edgar  was absolutely awesome! He was so welcoming with conversation and our tasty beverages that he whipped up were never empty!  Really a great mixologist with housemade juices! We tried the Azucar, Yerba Buena, the Beso and some other drinks not on the menu.  He also gave us a welcome home shot and let us taste try some whiskeys! I love that some of the drinks had a luscious habenero tincture that was unique and tasty- I like spicy so that was a treat.  We had the Taco special of the day- cant remember I dont believe it was on the menu- I want to say some kind of pork. It was ok and the completo dog- which I would def order again.  We topped off the drinks with one last order of The Mac con Queso.  Hands down the best Mac and Cheese I have had in awhile. It had jalapeno heat and flavor- it wasnt bland like every other boring Mac and Cheeses I had that dont stick out in my mind.  Overall 5 stars due to the luscious drinks and the great convo with Edgar and Staff! Would love to try the Taco Tuesday one of these days! but Edgar said he doesnt work on tuesdays..booo :)
Review Source:I came to Azucar for Taco Tuesday - $4 margaritas and $10 for all you can eat tacos (just veggie or beef, though). Nice place to get boozed up.
The soapapilla's are awesome.
Service was standard. The only complaint is it felt like we were being rushed out. Â I would have had a few more margaritas, but I felt unwanted.
Oh well.
*** Taco Tuesdays ***
Who doesn't love All-You-Can-Eat Tacos for $10 combine with an interesting environment and superb, tasty, creative drinks?
The Decor:
Reminded the boyfriend of being at home in the living room of a family member. Very laid back and warm
The Tacos:
Darn Tasty for being Mass Produced! We opted the first round to try both options, Ground Beef and Vegetarian, why not right? Beef, flavorful, juicy and darn good with it's yummy cheesiness. Vegetarian, unexpectedly tasty! tender vegetables with cheese and lettuce topped with one of three flavorful sauces consisting of Verde Sauce, Rojo Sauce and a Mango Jalapeno. All were wonderful but I preferred the Verde (aka Gringo Sauce) and the boyfriend preferred the Burn My Mouth Mango Jalapeno.

The Ceviche:
So-So. This is clearly a Fusion food. If you are a Ceviche purist, this might not be a wise option for you. While tasty (mostly lime), the ceviche lacked freshness and fish.. It's a very basic mash-up of Pico de Gallo, Cucumber, Avocado and tilapia which was been pre-marinated in Lime Juice, though I didn't really find any fish. Served with crunchy tortilla chips.

The Drinks:
I fell head over heels for this Cucumber Jalapeno concoction! The right amount of Cool with the right amount of Spice (just like the boyfriend!)...YUM. We also enjoyed the house margarita which my beloved enjoyed to the fullest, I loved that it was rimmed with a hint of Smoked Salt such a great added flavor.

The Seats & Bartenders (at the bar):
Comfortable and Large, perfect for girls like me with extra Junk in The Trunk.
Nichole can mix up a mighty delightful drink in record time. Charming, Witty and Delightful bartenders.
These guys are doing it right. Â I was told they don't spend much on marketing but depend on word of mouth and well, here we are. Â From our prompt seating to attentive wait staff to our complimentary shots from the owners to welcome us to their place, this place is cool. Â It's really refreshing to find such a little gem in SF compared to the really crap bars that exist in this city.
Review Source:It's really casual, you can hear each other, and the staff will leave you alone if you're on a date, but still come to check on you once in awhile.
Best dish: Guacamole
Food: 4/5 stars
Ambiance: Casual, but loud and spread out enough to have your privacy
Price:10/drink
Service: Outstanding, if not perfect
Finally get to come back here with some friends, I am glad this place is still low key and we can enjoyed a conversation.
Still a weird restaurant/bar/lounge combo, but it works. You can get decent cocktails, get some shots, and some food all at the same time!
My friend like it, and I am glad this place is still around.
I strolled in on a tuesday night with 4 other friends of mine because we were in the neighborhood. I didn't realize we needed reservations, so we had to wait about 30-45 min of so for a table. It was fine because we hung out at the bar and ordered some drinks. I had the Azucar cocktail, and it had some zip to it!! Very interesting indeed. The host apparently texted me our table was ready but I didn't hear my phone. Anyways, we ended up getting a table for 4 only because he misheard me initially. He was nice enough to get us set up in a cozy corner with a lush couch and table. $10 for unlimited tacos. Need I say more? We left happily stuffed and buzzed. The host got us a free round of shots at the end of the night because its was my friend's birthday! We will definitely be back Azucar!
Review Source:I LOVE this place!! Â Jon, Edgar and the whole staff do such a good job with making sure you're happy and relaxed the moment you walk through the door. Â The drinks are Ah-MAY-zing and the "Mexican street food" is fun and delicious. Â Even if you're on the worst date or work event, I guarantee you will have a good time here!
Review Source:I have the biggest crush on Azucar - their food is delicious and extremely unique, they serve my favorite drink, and the servers/owner is extremely personable and kind. If you have an absolute love of spicy drinks and Mexican hot chocolate (like I do) - Azucar will satisfy both cravings. I'm really not sure how this place can get any better!
My favorite drink: the Gringo En Mexico with Tequila mixed in
My favorite snack: Churros - the sauce that comes with it is like a solid form of Mexican hot chocolate - I would eat it by the spoonful if I could
The best time to go if you want a great deal is probably Tuesday nights - they have $10 all you can eat Tacos - I do hear it gets a bit crowded. The tacos are normally $6 a pair, so $10 is definitely worth going. I have actually gone during the weekends and enjoy the crowd. The lounge is very spacious and there is plenty of cushy seating, so I can't imagine how I would feel if it were crowded. Plus I would rather enjoy my Gringo at a leisurely pace, and enjoy the good conversation with my friends.
This isn't quite a hole-in-wall since the place is pretty big, but you definitely won't notice it unless you know you're looking for it. Once you find though, you'll be glad you never looked elsewhere.
Came here last march for my friend's birthday during happy hours.
It's a small homey lounge but spacious enough for you to walking around or from your chairs to the bar.
I had Chiapas margarita cocktail. Its sweet and you can taste a little bit of the alcohol.
They don't have a big list of foods that you can choose from but their foods are good. Some of the foods that i could remember that my friends and I had here are:
1. Quesadillas
2. Carnitas tacos
3. Sonoran hot dog
To me i thought the price of the food is a bit pricy since they give small portion even during happy hours
Friendly staffs but slow services on a busy Friday night which we had to wait a long time to get our drinks and foods.
Since there's parking meters around this lounge place, of course its best to come after 6 pm for free parking
This place is a real diamond in the rough. I came in here last night after a long day of work around the corner, after hearing great reports from coworkers regarding the Azucar Taco Tuesdays. I had to check it out, and boy am I glad I did.
Edgar, one of the owners, along with the rest of the staff, were delightful; quick service, polite, engaging, and hilarious.
The unlimited tacos for $10 were a total steal- delicious and cheap, with authentic and spicy sauces ( I recommend the yummy yellow mango salsa). The Margaritas were fresh, crisp, cheap and far too easy to throw back...they really do pack the punch so careful with those $4 treats! Overall, best Taco Tuesday I've been to in the city, and will making this a tradition.
The dim lights, comfortable couches & chairs, and bar seating areas, match the overall vibe and style of the restaurant. Â It's a great space to come and unwind with friends, enjoy unique tapas and drinks, all at a ridiculously affordable price.
I don't understand some of the below comments about the venue space... being similar to a Frat house!!?????? I have to wonder what kind of frat houses they have seen. The but the only place remotely fratty that I can think of in SF, can be found in the Marina ( beer pong in a bar seems to resonate that memory a bit more for me than a classy, comfortable, tapas lounge....)
Anyways, I just want to say thank you Edgar and the amazing staff. I had a great first  impression, and you can count on me for Taco Tuesday next week and many to come!!!!!!
I usually do not write reviews for bars until maybe I've tried it a few times, because usually it's hard to gauge the service or fare on the first go around. However, I felt really compelled to write one for Azúcar, on the very first visit.
If you are headed here by public transportation, you can get out at Civic Center MUNI/Bart station and then walk about 4-5 blocks down 9th in the direction of the ballpark. Azúcar will be at the very corner opposite a Japanese restaurant with a unique sign. Walking in, you will get a sense of a very homie atmosphere. It is dimly lit with nice couches and coffee tables all over. This is a great place to entertain groups of people for tapas style mexican dishes and drinks.
I nestled myself with two friends in a corner of the main room, there is a bar to the left of the entrance and another breakout room to the right. You can sit down anywhere and a waitress will come by to take your order. There menu is concise, and I prefer it that way. With larger menus sometimes it can be daunting and you just want to find a good drink quickly.
I tried an Azúcar mixed drink, while my two friends had a Lobos Mexicanos and a Desde Russia con Amor. Later we had a non alcoholic beverage, A Gringo En Mexico. All of these drinks were fantastic. What I really enjoy about these drinks is how they are clearly crafted with care by the bartender, and the spice that is added to the drink gives a really awesome taste. Please be aware that you are ordering, by default drinks with spice, because you can always ask to have no spices added. The hostes said that some people complain about it being spicy, but I think that's rather ignorant of the customer if they do not notice that the menu items state the ingredients of jalepeños. The Azucar might rival my other favorite drink in SF, which is the Surfer on Acid at Tradition.
Along with these drinks, I shared more than a few tapas style dishes. We tried each of the 3 tacos (Pescados, Carnitas, Papas Con Rajas), out of the three my favorite was the Carnitas, but they were all made well. Again, by hand and not done from frozen foods. We also had Quesadillas, and ended with some Churros. The Abuelita Cream that came with the Churros was bomb. Try it out!
Usually I don't give out 5 stars, so something had to pop about this place right? Very observant! What made the night was when the owner, Edgar, came by and said hey have some shots on us. Incredible, we were served some of their experimental shots that had I believe some triple sec with cucumber juice and some spice. Really refreshing and spicy at the same time. Edgar is awesome owner. I could tell he was super passionate about the business and about the food he was providing. He was also very particular about the ambiance that he wanted and I think he is doing a great job. He even brought over his very friendly black lab retriever, Orsen. To top it all off Edgar, wanted us to specifically try one of his new drink concoctions. I can't really tell you about it because that would spoil his business surprise, but I will say it tasted great and should be out next month or the month after. If you get a chance try and talk with him, or most likely he will find you. Super chill and friendly dude.
If I were in the immediate vicinity, this would be my go to place every night, like Ted Moseby is to the bar in the basement of How I Met Your mother. Also, there are special theme nights like Taco Tuesday, and Worldly Wednesday (?) where Edgar serves up a taco idea with foods from around the world. Great ambiance, great drinks, good food, good bathroom.
I'll be back!
Me and My Friend came here for a drink on Friday around 11:30pm. Â The restaurant was packed and had couple birthday parties there. Â
The restaurant itself was pretty small. Â My friend and I sat at the bar and ordered the cocktail of the day. Â It was vodka, ginger and lime (something like that) and only $6. Â The drink was actually pretty tasty and big. Â
The service was very nice. Â The bartenter was friendly and helpful.
I will definitely go back to try their food.
I'm not feeling the hype of this place. Â I live extremely close and always walked past thinking it was a classy mexican tequila lounge. Â I arrive Saturday night around 930 with a group of friends. Â I appreciated that it was unpretentious and that there was enough space for us to sit/lounge around. Â The waitress was also really nice and helpful.
However, the decor was so strange, it was like they bought all their furniture from Out of the Closet next door. It seemed like a decorated clean frat house with a really weird selection of music. Â That was really off putting, but what makes me hesitant to come back, was their drinks. Â The menu looked interesting, but all of their cocktails seemed to have lemon juice in them- what if you don't like lemon juice. Â I got the special of the night and it was decent, like a fruity vodka drink, nothing more. Â My friend ordered a negroni and they didn't know how to make it. Sigh.
With all the other places in the area, it's a no brainer to choose another place. Â The upsides to this place is the seating and quietness, which can also be found in my own living room.
Unlimited tacos on Tuesday nights for only $10! SAY WHAT?!!!! Yea, you heard me.
These aren't just the ordinary street style tacos, but these are loaded with meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes. There's 2 tacos per plate that comes to you at once. Next thing you know, as you consume your last bite, a staff would come over and ask if you would like more. Very attentive! They have a challenge going to see who can beat the current plates of tacos ever eaten. My friend beat the goal of 11 plates of tacos one night!! He did 12 plates (24 tacos). He got a free tequila shot from that, although he had trouble consuming anymore food/alcohol that night anymore. hah! Well, the taco challenge included beers as well, but we'll let someone else take on that challenge.
$4 margaritas rimmed with black salt on Tuesday nights are delicious as well!
Lots of comfy chairs and couches throughout the whole area with a huge variety of music playing (top 40s, dance, alternatives, rock, etc).
Can't wait to come here and try their bottomless sangrias on Sunday!
I LOVE this place! I have the fortune to live a block away so I am a frequent visitor. Edgar and Jon, the owners are PHENOMENAL and their drinks are to die for. I'm more than thrilled that right now "Desde Russia con Amor" is back for the next 4 months-you will love this drink, it has goat cheese and candied beets as garnishment, and it is my favorite cocktail. I drank at least 4 in the past two days. I go here for Brunch, Lunch, and dinner. I highly recommend their mac and cheese (huge shells with lovely cheeses and jalapeno) + they have food for vegetarians like me! (think soyrizo). :D
As other reviewers have mentioned, they're great for parties as well. Call ahead because they're quite popular. :) Come here, you won't regret it! I sure didn't.
Sweet owner-chef (Jon)...co-owner with a little S-A-S-S (Edgar), Spicy Cocktails (try el verano), Mexican Tapas (Taco Tuesday deals) and Sunday Brunch-o-rama.
Reasonable prices, interesting drink concoctions, pretty great crowd and 2 televisions (if you ever wanna squat at the bar and watch a baseball or football game...or JERRY SPRINGER...LOL)
Happened in here on FSF Sunday and a GREAT TIME was being had by ALL!!!!! Â GOOD STRONG DRINKS! Â A stripper pole that was getting lots of action (that thing needs reinforcement!!!!! It got put through some serious testing!!!!). Â Strong cocktails and very fair prices! Â What a deal!!!
CHEERS!
I've dropped in two more times in the month since my original review, and, while my previous review still applies, I feel compelled to bump Azucar up a point after having organized two large events here since then: a 30 person get-together, and a 15 person joint birthday.
The short version is that Edgar, the owner, and the rest of staff are awesome. For both events, they set aside entire sections of the venue for us, to ensure that we'd all have a comfortable place to enjoy ourselves throughout the night. And, while the birthday party was much more manageable, I have to give their staff extra kudos for being able to handle the party of 30 so well. To ease some of the difficulties of such a large group event, we were actually able to pre-order food and drink for the group, which helped mitigate the inevitable initial avalanche of orders.
So, while Azucar is already a good venue as is, it becomes a great venue for any of you who want to plan large group events/parties, especially ones that involve both food and drink.
My friend was in the city celebrating her birthday and she chose Azúcar Lounge to start the night out. It's a small bar with a chill vibe and tons of Mexican flair. There are colorful paper streamers, candles, and just tons of color throughout the place.
It was pretty packed when we got there. We sat at a table by the bar and my boyfriend went to order drinks. A server came by the table to take our drink order and when I told her we already ordered some at the bar, she got annoyed. She acted like she was doing us some huge favor by waiting on us. The drinks were okay. I ordered a mojito and wasn't impressed. It was way too tart and had little to no mint flavor. Not a great first drink to start the night out!
The major reason Azúcar Lounge is getting 3 STARS is for the bartender and owner. He came by our table with a bucket and asked if we wanted to play a game. Basically, the bucket was filled with pieces of paper with different shots written on it. Whatever you picked you had to take a shot of. At $3/shot this was an affordable and fun idea! I ended up with a shot of bourbon...not my favorite but much better than ending up with a shot of Moonshine...eek!
Overall, I would return to Azúcar Lounge if I was in SOMA and looking for a more laidback spot to grab a drink. It looks like they have great HH and Taco Tuesday deals so I'll have to check that out.
If you like spicy cocktails with fresh ingredients, be sure to stop in here. Â There's a whole menu full of creative, delicious concoctions and an equally saucy co-owner/bartender to make them. Â The cocktails bear heavily on the spicy side, so if you don't like a little zing, you may not find what you're looking for here. Â Stop in at happy hour for a discounted drink of the day (I believe it was $6).
Two favorites: the obi-wan-jalapenobi, a blueberry, orange, clove, and jalapeno mix, and the cucumber jalapeno (habanero?) margarita, which was perfectly balanced.
As for food, the guacamole and ceviche were delicious, and complemented the spicy cocktails. (The bacon-wrapped hot dog with pineapple salsa was tasty too, but the bun overwhelmed the filling.)
It's close to the Hall of Justice, so next time you're called for jury duty, follow up those fiery orations with an equally fiery drink.
FABULOUS!
After spending 2 very dreary days in SF we came upon this wonderful little gem tuck away from the noisy hustle & bustle of Market St.
First, we were greeted by the waiter (a recent transplant from Texas) and I'm not sure if it's the southern charm or what but he certainly had it. He was very accommodating, welcoming & friendly. So much so that he treated & accompanied us to shot which was delicious. Later we were greeted by the owner himself, a super nice guy. Â
Next, the ambience is rustic yet comfortable with plush sofas & chairs. We decided to seat ourselves on the beautiful red leather sofa. It certainly made me feel like I was at home.
Finally, the mixology behind the libations are ingenious. Almost magical, because just as we sat enjoying our drinks the sun finally came out over SF & stayed for the rest of our trip.
Salud!
Four stars across the board for Azucar Lounge providing great food, drinks and excellent service from all of the staff, including Edgar, the owner of the venue. Every time I've come in to Azucar Lounge, he is always there talking to guests and welcoming them, never hesitating to make small talk and answer any questions about the menu items.
My most recent experience was this past Sunday for brunch. With my boyfriend (Tim B.) in tow and a couple friends, we took a comfy couch in the corner and proceeded to indulge in their bottomless Sangria special for brunch. I must note that our glasses were never empty for more than a few mere minutes. The staff here is so attentive, it's ridiculous. The Mac and Cheese on their brunch menu was great. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The portion was perfect for me, as I wasn't really too hungry, but needed something to soak the sangria since I had to be at work in a few hours.
I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a cute brunch in the area that's not too fussy, but still great. Although the menu selection is fairly small right now, we've been told that it will be expanding soon and I can't wait to see what the crew at Azucar pulls out of their sleeves.
Edgar won me over immediately. After mixing me up one of the drink specials, he told me a little bit about Azucar Lounge and it's obvious he's passionate about what he's doing. Not to mention he has so much energy!
The vibe is cool and perfect for an after work get together. It's relatively new and very friendly to new customers. I can see this place getting really busy on their taco tuesday nights. The drinks are amazing. I enjoyed the El Viejo and Beso de Relogio on our 2nd and 3rd round. They sure know how to make tasty drinks with more unusual mixers such as jalapeno syrup, carrot juice, and agave syrup. Azucar stays true to it's Latin roots and combines mexican street food elements throughout the whole menu. I had a taste of their tacos and polished off the churros for dessert. Churros!! Churros and drinks! I knew i'd be coming back.
One additional note: I couldn't say no to the owner's complimentary shots with a "surprise". Although a bit hesitant, it looked like your standard tequila or vodka...
...NOPE! It was infused with some sort of chili pepper. I felt that slight burning kick in the back of my throat. Surprisingly I liked it! I should have known - 'jalapeno' shows up frequently on their menu.
Wasted.

From Azúcar: Complimentary shots of the house specialty for first time patrons.
Not exactly needed after we had already polished off one of their signature cocktails with dinner.
Gin fans will like the Yerba Buena (gin, house kombucha and lime juice).
Vodka fans will like the Alas De Angel (vodka, house lavender syrup, orange, red bull).
We liked them both.
Food helped soak up the beverages.
Couldn't stop scooping up the ceviche featuring tilapia marinated in lime juice and avocado with house made tortilla chips.
Didn't take long to make quick work of the tilapia tacos with pineapple salsa.
Prepare to wine and dine and wine on less formal couches and chairs than actual seating. Fits the lounge/bar ambiance.
Service was attentive and earnest. Now if only the music was better than Usher.
Three star meal. Three star ambiance. Four star drinks. Five star complimentary round.
Just try not to get Wasted.
