They need to figure out what type of restaurant they are.....Italian? Â French? Â Steakhouse? Â Asian Fusion? Â Irish? Â The menu had french and italian appetizers.....on the entree menu, they had pasta's, steaks, lamb chops, shepherds pie...a few dishes with an asian flair..
Was first suspicious at the fairly low prices, and after receiving the food, knew why prices were low.......low quality.
Husband ordered the New York Strip - not the highest quality of meat, thus the price, very chewy. Â I had the Duck Tenderloin served with a Thai peanut sauce....Firstly, who serves wedge potato fries with stir-fry veggies and deep fried duck and thai sauce? Â Most importantly, don't serve me chicken, when the menu says duck. Â Duck has a very distinctive flavor and color, which this did not have....too "white" and no distinctive flavor....very clearly chicken.....Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining......
Possibly go for some appetizers and wine, but then end it, and have a nice dinner elsewhere!
My husband and I went on a Friday night around 6:30. Â It was crowded but my husband had called and put our name on the list so we were seated pretty quickly. Â The service was a little bit slow but they were busy so I could understand why. Â My husband got a salad which was good, he really enjoyed the escargot (ugh) and his beef wrap was pretty good. Â I ordered the chicken kabob and I don't think they even marinated the chicken. Â From the taste I think they stuck them under a broiler rather than grill them. Â The rice was not seasoned at all. Â And I think the green beans were previously frozen. Â So I guess the menu is hit or miss. Â It was really loud in there and we were seated next to the crowded bar and it was kind of invasive. Â I was going to give it three stars but that means A-OK, our experience was not A-OK.
Review Source:I have been coming to Bacchus Nibbles for many years. Â The new place seems to have become the Lake Zurich hot spot for good reason. Â The food is reasonably priced, the menu options, including the specials, are unique to most other restaurants in the area (love the escargot) and the quality and taste are always spot on. Â The staff is always warm and friendly and I just love the atmosphere. Â
It's a great place to meet a friend for a drink and chat on week day after work or if you want the weekend vibe go there on a Friday or Saturday night.
Mrgoodtaste here: I've frequented the previous Bacchus Nibbles location in Kildeer many times in the past and was familiar with the menu.
Tonight I thought I'd try the new location in Lake Zurich and was, well, displeased.  The "schnitzel" is now beef. The resemblance to schnitzel begins and ends only in that the meat has been flattened. It might be, perhaps, dredged in flour, but on the plate and on the palette this dish more closely resembles a  cube steak with an overly ambitious application of seasoned salt. Bar food at best. Green beans were of the frozen ilk and were, naturally, water-logged, rubbery and served cold. The server was disinterested and subtly rude while pushing the higher priced wine and desert menu which we twice rebuffed. Oh well, so long Bacchus Nibbles.

I have been dining at this restaurant for the last couple of years. They have since relocated to a new location. I appreciated their old location, it was cozy and warm. They offered a nice selection. My husband and I put two kids through college. And their menu allowed us to stick to our budget. Â And for those who do not have a budget to worry about, they offer a menu to satisfy.
We run a small family business and are taxed to high heavens. Thank goodness for restaurant like Bacchus nibbles,
I was a regular at Bacchus when they were at their previous location. Â I loved the intimate, quiet surroundings and the outside area. Â I was disappointed when they shut down and I spent months trying to find a local restaurant that offered the atmosphere, food and wine that Bacchus offered to no avail to date. Â We decided to look up the new location and check it out one evening before Christmas. Â It is now located in a shopping strip center. Â It was packed (good for the owner/manager) and so loud that people were actually screaming to be heard. Â Although the food remains the same consistent good quality, the ambiance has changed (where are all those wine bottles?) and it is way to loud to go back. Â I will miss the old Bacchus......
Review Source:The new location is so much better in regards to windows and lighting. Â It is on the small side with the bar area utilizing the most space. Â We went there for lunch and the prices are affordable, so you get what you pay for. Â The price reflect the below average food. Â I had a Reuben Sandwich with fries. Â The corned beef was a little old and very chewy. Â The meat had that iridescent glow to it. Â Fries were fries. Â The other meals at our table looked like a very average dish. Â NOTHING fancy, which is confusing. Â The decor is fancy and very tasteful. Â But the food was like The Sports Bar food. Â Not impressed at all. Â I will try for dinner.
Review Source:Last night we went to NIBBLES for the first time in the new location. They had a note on the door that they were too busy to take any names until after 8:30 PM. I was very glad I called a few days ago and made a reservation. The owner said he only takes reservations for parties of five or more. But he did take our name and we did have a table waiting for us when we got there.
The place was packed! The bar was overflowing - people were standing all over the place. It seems to be the hot spot in Lake Zürich right now!
It's not going to last for long! The place is crazy loud! You can barely hold a conversation. The old restaurant was great to have a nice conversation - but this was almost impossible at this new location.
The menu seems to be the same. Many old favorites are still there! Â And the prices are reasonable some entrees over $20 but many choices in the $15-$20 range!
The service was mediocre, maybe even a little slow. The food was nothing to write home about. It was edible and tasty, but not outstanding. My husband's vegetables were served cold and had to go back, they forgot to bring him another serving of them, until almost all of us were finished eating.
As Soon as we were finished eating they were hustling to clear the table and get us the check and try to get us out of there quickly. They really didn't want us to linger. Â
I don't think I would go back on a Saturday night again. It was just too crowded, loud and the food wasn't that good.
*** went back on a Thursday night. Â Still not very good. Â Bland food --- Â not flavorful. Â Still busy but not crazy. Â I'll go for drinks but will eat elsewhere.
The food....pass. The staff....obviously not enough to do. They were ALL sitting around watching dancing with the stars. The owner(?)had his BARKING dog sitting at a table with him...health code violation? The crowd? A bunch of 50 year old drunken couples basically trying to get it on at the bar and possibly actually getting it on in the patio area from what we could see. No judgement...I think it's a quiet out of the way place where certain couples can have their questionable rendezvous.
The name made me think it was a Greek restaurant.,.not at all! Apparently it's French "provential"(?)
No salad or soup was included in the diner. Stale "warmed" bread with ice cold butter should have been a clue to how the rest of the meal would go.
I just wanted a lemony white fish and they had a catfish (basa) special. Not a catfish fan I asked if I  could have the another white fish. They said they could do Tilapia for me. Guess what happened? They gave me the catfish (assuming I wouldn't know the difference) and told me three times it was tilapia..,,.should have taken a pic of it!! That was one of the biggest offenses I've ever incurred. The "roasted potatoes" were a mushy instant tasting pile of potatoes. Desert for the mister was a sloppy piece of tiramisu that had barely any flavor. The chocolate creme brûlée was "okay".
Our bill came to over $90!
We skipped tsukasa for this place because that always gets pricey but this was nuts!!!
NEVER AGAIN & I RECOMMEND YOU DON'T EITHER...unless you need a quiet place that no one you know ever goes to...DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After eating here I told my brother it was more a three and a half. He wanted me to give it a four and here is why. The restaurant is as cluttered on the inside as it is on the outside. I found it odd that they were going for some sort of rustic Italian feel with all the crates of wine, but it was funny to see other random liquor like Midori which doesn't quite scream wine country to me. The random paintings of Marilyn Monroe also threw  me off.
One cannot live on ambience alone, so how was the food you say? For me there were some hits and misses, but overall I enjoyed my meal. Their bread is delicious and we almost got full just eating that. May I suggest ordering the Brie with lingonberries or the escargot and using the bread with it. Yum, practically a meal itself. Â I was fooled by the bay scallops entree (I was craving big ass scallops, I forgot bay scallops are baby sized). Ryan's chicken alfredo was really good. Chicken is chicken, but the penne and the sauce they make is garlic-rific! Some of the entrees ordered by our group were also pretty good as far as the meat being cooked well. May I say I have never had a tastier wienerschnitzel, boy did my dad pick a winner.
All in all the food is this place's saving grace.
I like to try places despite others' opinions, but here I stand with the masses:  Bacchus Nibbles is awkward.  The owner seemed to care less about what was going on at the restaurant (text messaging, doing paperwork on a table in the dining room, and drinking beer during the entirety of our 3 hour stay), the bus boys were so eager to take things off the table after asking, "you done with this?" and then not sticking around long enough to listen to our responses, and whoever it was who took our phone reservation (from the accent I'm thinking this is also the owner) hung up abruptly after asking the number in my party, the time, and the name.  I had wanted to mention that we were celebrating a birthday and  were first time diners, and to talk about a wine selection...
The goat cheese phyllo appetizer was simple but delicious, as was the duck with peach sauce. Â However, all fish should be avoided: dry or fishy, claimed to be fresh, but with what looked to me to be white freezer-burn on the edges of some of the scallops.
Our server was very considerate and good with wine service (in my opinion the only positive staff-member in this restaurant).
Suggestion: Â For good food and wine in the same genre, but higher quality and for a comparable price, visit either D&J Bistro, Retro Bistro, or Le Titi de Paris (for a great lunch deal or slightly more expensive dinner options)!!!! Â The chefs, owners, and servers at these restaurants care about your experience, their food, and their beverages and will provide an the all around satisfying experience that Bacchus Nibbles seems to be lacking.
This place is great ! Â It's cozy, quaint, romantic, and very well priced. Â The food is good - try the escargot and the blue cheese fillet. Â The selection of wine is awesome and the wines are very well priced. Â My fiancee and I ordered 2 appetizers, I had the fillet and she had a fish dish, 2 bottles of wine and a split dessert all for under $150. That's awesome! Â We used to live in the city for many years and the same meal on the north side of Chicago would run you over $300 easy.
Review Source:We quite enjoyed it. I was skeptical, given some of the other reviews here, but after passing this place by numerous times over the years, we decided to give it a try. Â
As some have said, the place is somewhat dark and cluttered inside, but I found it kind of charming and romantic. We enjoyed the wine, and loved the food we ordered. We had the escargot, coconut shrimp, and garlic shrimp, and they were all fabulous. The dessert was also quite good.
I will definitely come back again.
You know those places you drive by all the time and say to yourself "Self, you really should try this place one of these days"? Well, after years of driving past, a friend asked me to join him at Bacchus Nibbles. Now I know why I kept driving by!
You walk in and there is a long hallway that leads to a second door. Upon entering, immediately to your right is what appears to be a seldom used coat check room. The door is open and it is loaded with storage and castoffs from another era. There is NO ONE to greet you, no one keeping an eye on the front of the house.
As my friend had not arrived I hung around the front for a few minutes and finally someone asked if they could help me. I asked for a table for two and was seated immediately in the bar. Loads of television sets tuned into various sporting events with the sound turned down. From what I could tell the background music seemed to vary in between classical and standards but as we were in the bar, it was hard to hear.
The decor is nothing short of nightmarish! There is so much dust laden, faded and dated crap hanging from the walls that I am not even sure if there were walls underneath! Tacky little statues of French waiters, tchotchkes everywhere and flea market detritus that should have stayed at the flea market. The entire place is really dirty and dark. I remember my grandmother once saying that the reason some restaurants are so dark is so that you cannot see the dirt. This place is a perfect example. I kept thinking Gordon Ramsey was going to come bounding out of the kitchen screaming bloody murder at the owner.
The wine list is a joke. There are literally thousands of bottles of wine in this place but the wine list we were given listed maybe 40 different bottles and the only stuff offered by the glass was mainstream, chain restaurant, grocery store wine. Eco Domani Pinot Grigio? Seriously? If you are going to bill yourself as a wine bar, offer some decent wine! No one offered us a more extensive wine list and when I asked the waiter what they do with the multitude of bottles literally one foot behind me, he explained that there is a better wine list, but one has to ask for it. Ok, so let me get this straight; I go to dinner in a wine bar and in order to get the decent wine, I have to know to ask for a different wine list than the one offered? Really?
The food was good and bad. We ordered a bunch of hors d'oeuvres rather than dinner. We started with escargot in some kind of red sauce. Not fresh tomato, but more like sun dried tomato. It was not presented this way on the menu, but we were surprised that they were so good. And, I mean really good.
We also ordered the cheese plate. For the price, it was generous and pretty good stuff. Average cheeses, not terribly creative selections and a lot of similar tasted and textures. The cheese was also served with two patés. One country paté, kind of chunky and the other was a smooth version. If I am not mistaken, they were both Three Little Pigs Brand, which are decent and consistent for the price, but the fact is that I can buy those at the grocery store.
The French Onion Soup was an absolute disaster. The soup itself was so sweet and had so much sugar that it was inedible. The cheese was a slice of mozzarella, not the flavorful blend of Swiss or Emmenthaler and Gruyere. We even mentioned this to our waiter who was completely indifferent. In fact, he was a little wacky from the get go, but all things considered, I can handle a wacky waiter.
Whew! All that said, there were more misses than hits. Sadly, in the future, this will be a drive by.
I used to live in the DeerPark area about 8 years ago. I recall this place to be way more upscale. The food is really bland now. I am not sure what type of changes they made but from the appetizers to the desserts...nothing was good at all. Â I would have preferred going to Denny's to have such a bad meal. Â The prices are moderate, but the food is not good. Also, there is dust everywhere, next to our table the bottles of wine in the racks have a triple layer of dust that was totally disgusting. I am not sure how the sanitation department of this village works because someone with allergies will die at this place with all that dust. The service was very good, but the food just didn't work out.
Review Source:i love this place. it has a cute cozy feel different than all the corporate stuffiness. the food is really good, and if you like wine they have tons of it!
i haven't tried anything i didn't like. if you like ratatouille they got me hooked on theirs! defiantly check it out...i recommend it.
I've given this place two tries. Â Once was about a year ago. Â Then again, recently. Â
What was once just passable is now repulsive. Â The service is rude when it exists at all. Â The food isn't mediocre, it's downright awful - awful means cold, overcooked, and far from fresh. Â The prices for their food and wine is criminal. Â Even the decor has gone downhill. Â What used to be kind of quaint, surrounded by cases of wine, is now nasty, as you're surrounded by cases of wine and bottles caked with layers of dust.
Without the help of yelp I would probably never have tried this place and I'm so glad I did.
The restaurant doubles as a wine store so you are dining surrounded by wine bottles: a dream for any wine enthusiast. And if you get here early enough and score the table by the fireplace, well that's just an extra treat.
Low key restaurant with great choices of wine and the food is good. Â
We ordered the grouper which came crusted in sundried tomatoes and pesto with carrots, snap peas and brussel sprouts and a choice of side. Our other dish was the bay scallops which also came with vegetables and rice and a curry sauce. Â All were fresh with well balanced flavors, really nice. And yes, we saved space for the creme brulee which was worth the calories as we almost licked the empty dish.
In a nutshell, didn't know what to expect going in but the quality of wine and food was worth it. Service was adequate and I loved the fact that everything was low key which was quite relaxing.
Bacchus Nibbles should be located in the heart of the Gold Coast.
Everything was perfect: the wine, the atmosphere, the cozy fire, the service, the food. Â
The mussels are flown in daily, so they're not always available. But if they are, order them. They come in the most delicious white wine sauce. FANTASTIC.
This place deserves more attention from the Yelping wine crowd -- Â I can't believe this is only the 4rth review. The first impression walking into this place is unique. All you see are stacks of wine bottles, hundreds of them - as they are used to separate the dining areas into (kind of) intimate settings. We stopped in early on a Saturday eve (6:30) and were seated immediately. They have a nice wine selection at reasonable prices, but knowledgeable oenophiles will spot cheap wines being sold for inflated prices (Sterling Vintners Selection - really?) The warm bread is excellent, the French Onion soup was good (served hot but slightly boring flavor). The shrimp appetizer was very well done but the highlight was the Osso Bucco, split for 2. The vegetable medley was unusual - don't see brussel sprouts too much anymore - and perfectly steamed. The mashed potatoes had a clove too much garlic - but at least they didn't wimp out on it. We had a CA cab and a OR pinot - both good values for $7.50 /glass. We retired to the bar after dinner to watch some sports and kibitz with Mike the bartender. It felt like a neighborhood hangout at the bar - all in all a nice comfortable atmosphere. It was crowded when we left and there is not a good place to cool your heels and wait for a table (the bar was full of drinkers) so I suggest an early visit. Â It is conveniently located on Rte 12 so a good place to hit if you are shopping in the burbs.
Review Source:I am really surpised by all the hate you people write about this place. For the past few months I visited this restaurant 4 times and love it. The cheese and pate plate is good, especially complemented with Merlot. The salmon simply melts in your mouth, mmm... so tasty!
Yvonne, if you don't like a dish, don't order it, especially if you are not sure what it is. Therefore, the waitress shouldn't apologize for something that was supposed to be prepared the way it was prepared. And by the way, what kind of urge is that to want someone to appologize to you?!
Theresa, seems like you are writing about some different restaurant. So I am not going to even comment on what you wrote.
Good service, excellent food and very nice ambience.
Used to be a great spot, now I try it once a year to see if it comes back, nope. Service was mediocre, it was a Wednesday night & at the peak only 7 tables were full, yet it took 20 minutes to get a bill once we had finished. Meal was adequate, nothing stellar. Unless ownership changes, I wouldn't bother, there was nothing that stood out meal-wise, service, or any other way.
Review Source:I used to come here quite often as they had lovely authentic French appetizers like pate, escargot and ratatouille.
From my last visit, the food has definitely gone downhill. Â Owner is still very friendly but the food... Â First, onion soup was lukewarm. Â Then the gumbo special of the night was soaked in oil. Â Portions have gone enormous to accommodate customers who value quantity over quality. Â One of the Eastern-European waitresses simply refused to apologize for the dishes and said it's up to the chef. Â Gosh, she took every comment and got so personally and got extremely defensive it was annoying.
