Coming from Northern NJ/NY area, it takes awhile to "un-wind" and get used to the energy of the people of Chincoteague...With that being said, I've been vacationing on the island for years now and frequent Mr. Baldy's for either breakfast, lunch, or dinner...When you first walk in the décor to the left area is Beatle memorabilia...(Mr. Baldy is a big fan of The Beatles)...The rest of the restaurant's décor is pretty simple...paintings on the wall of under the sea (Including a line from "Yellow Submarine")...There are cute drawings from kids that come to Mr. Baldy's and are hung on the wall...Some are even framed...
As far as the service...Some days the service is quick and other days not so quick...Remember, we are on an island where the energy is calm!...No need to get crazy and rush!...But honestly, we have never sat and waited more than we are used to waiting in this crazy area of NJ/NY...The waitresses are always friendly!...Some more than others...There is a tiny little firecracker named, Billie, that has been working there for a million years....She is quick speaking and moves like she's on roller skates and gets the job done!!...We always look for her when we come to Mr. Baldy's!...We love her!
If you are ordering breakfast, you have to get the pancakes!!....Fluffy and thick with a hint of vanilla flavor!...Bacon is nice and crispy and never greasy!...Egg omelets are good, but not much of a choice as far as veggies go...Homefries are literally tiny cubed potatoes that have been either baked or quick fried...never greasy!!...My kids love them!!...Coffee is great!!
Lunch, I have always ordered my favorite Rueben sandwich...Very good!!..Crab cakes, turkey sandwiches, etc...all good...
Dinner is just as good!...
Bottom line is Mr. Baldy's is a simple and friendly restaurant that you can always count on getting your basic food that tastes great!...If you're looking for basic comfort food, this is where to go...Nothing fancy, just good food!
Remember to ask for Billie!!
We came here for a late breakfast. Â Unfortunately we never got to try the food, as we decided to leave based solely upon the number of flies in the restaurant. Â I understand that flies are going to be attracted to the restaurant, but there didn't seem to be any measures being taken to control them at all. Â I usually frown upon reviewing a place without even trying it, but when you're literally run out by flying insects, I think a review is in order. Â Hopefully this was just an "off" day as no one else has complained about the issue.
