Where "creativity" in the desserts involves the staff haphazardly squirting disgusting chocolate sauce over perfectly good rice krispie treats and angel food cake.

It's a dining hall, and they need to make everything in mass amounts...so naturally the majority of the food is just average. Occasionally okay, occasionally terrible.

The sandwich and omelette stations are nice until you eat there enough, and then the repetition of the taste really makes you lose your appetite instantly.

They do have a peanut butter and jelly station which is nice, and the bagels and cream cheese are okay in the morning. But frequently stuff will break, they will run out of utensils, or run out of peanut butter/soymilk/bowls etc.

It's average, and it's great for a dining hall if you're forced to have a meal plan, and convenient if you're stuck on campus and want something a little nicer than snack food. But if you can, avoid it!

I took swimming lessons there during college and never dreamed it would one day be a dining hall. I'm glad they kept the track in place so you can run after your meals.

Ate it for two years. Not good. Bad for the arteries. Also, a tip for the UC tour guides: if you are still claiming the Wall Street Journal ranked this the number two University dining hall in the country, like you were in 2006, please stop. I found the article, and it was ranked #2 out of the eight that they surveyed. Not the same thing.

Judging by the number of people who frequent Bartlett Dining Hall, it seems to be a very popular dining destination especially popular among the hip, young crowd.  The service here is horrible, as the workers frequently insult your ordering abilities and are often not available when you want your food served.  There is virtually no wait service but rather, one must clean up their own food.  The ambiance, however, is very nice.  It reminds me of my high school physical education days, as there is an authentic hardwood basketball court floor as well as a running track located on the upper levels.  The restaurant itself is difficult to find, as the outside bears no sign and looks like a Gothic style university building.  Upon entering, there are no signs directing you to the upstairs seating area.  There is also no maitre'd and our party waited several minutes before realizing that we had to seat our selves.  The seating arrangement is also very awkward as you find yourself sitting at large communal tables with people you don't know.  The food selection is very wide ranging from sushi and "authentic" Chinese to fried chicken and sandwiches.  Compared to similar institutions, the food quality is above average.  Overall, the first couple meals here are not bad, but the next hundred or so tend to feel somewhat repetitive.
