I heard about this place, "be" from a neighbor who's friend was supposed to be in a drag show last night.
Just opened apparently-- not sure when but it's corner dive bar that was formerly frequented by older Spanish-speaking folks that's been transformed with nice/artsy graphics on the outside and fairly minimal fixtures inside.
I happened by the place around 10 on my way somewhere else, and peeked in to see a few guys setting up and no patrons yet. They said the show would be at midnight.
I came back a bit before midnight with a friend to find the music was blaring so loud (and distorted) Â that it was painful from the doorway. Just inside the door there was a guy at a cash register-- it was impossible to figure out what the cover was he was asking (I understood 10, my friend thought he said 8) because the music was so stupid-loud. We ended up going somewhere else because just standing around staring at other people that you can't talk to, with no quieter part of the bar to get away to, while holding your fingers in your ear is not my idea of a good time. Â Without the cover I might have at least gone in for a drink.
There were a few patrons inside at that time, and a DJ at a table towards the far wall, but there was no way anyone in there could have possibly been able to communicate with another person except maybe by passing notes or texting. Â I should say that I love loud music and especially when you can feel the bass vibrate your whole body-- but this was just painful (not really much bass, way too much/distorted high range.
I really would love to see this place succeed, but felt the need to get a message out: Â Guys, get rid of that DJ-- he obviously has no clue and/or very poor judgment. You can not have a one room bar with smooth walls/tin ceiling and have a professional quality PA meant for larger or outdoor venues, with speakers on stands at ear level, cranked up to full capacity. Â Please find a sound consultant who knows what they're doing.
I'll check it out one more time and gladly post a follow-up if the problem has been fixed. Â Disappointed for now.
