my favorite venue in ham-town. it just sucks when they charge you cover i mean i'll never pay that shit because i'm a cheap ass. the "bat tunnel" is horrendous to your ears and I would not recommend it to claustrophobics. but good bands usually play here and the atmosphere is more "clean" than other venues where they reek of male piss and there is dust and smudge like painted lady. make sure to tip the bartenders because they're dirt poor.

The sign makes you think that maybe this bar is futuristic space bar but it isn't.  It's just a regular Earth bar.

I was there to watch a friend perform and was very pleased. Actually one of my favorite crowds out of all of the places I have been to. The area to watch the live music really stinks (that's where it loses points), but people were out of it by the bar singing along so i guess it doesn't matter. It was packed when i arrived, but literally as soon as the performance was over (11pm?) the bar was cleared out. Good experience and i'd definitely go there again.

This place gets four stars as a place to drink and hang out with friends, but chances are you'll be there to see a show - and that's where it loses points. The stage area is at the end of a long, narrow hallway-like area of the bar. That hurts the quality of the sound, and if you're short, you'd better get up front. The Belmont is certainly not the worst place in metro Detroit to see a show  (I actually enjoy it as a change of pace), but it's far from ideal. The Belmont is best when there's a decent band putting on enjoyable background music as you pound down a bucket o' Little Kings.

Unless my band was comprised of three members, I'd find playing the Belmont both titillating and perplexing. The stage is deep but narrow, so you're kind of on top of each other.   Being able to see who is on stage becomes an exercise in hating your height.  If you're short like I am, that is.

    Sigh.  Story of my life.

I definitely like who runs the sound board. The bands are mixed well. Never underestimate the importance of a good sound person!

Good beer and vodka selection. Plus, the drinks are cheap, the bathroom is clean (TP is never an issue), the walls are bedecked with local art and there is a patio for pre/post show lounging.

This is a great joint in which to see up 'n coming and established local bands.

Just don't EVER lean against the lightswitch inside by the patio doors. Especially when a band is playing.

I love a bar with a clean bathroom. The stage area is weird and if the band has any kind of draw you can't see much. But the bartenders have always been nice and I just had my very first bloody mary there last night. mm, pickle-y.

Good place to get a beer and see a band.

The staff has always been pleasant.

I do not know anyone that works here, which seems weird because almost everyone on here seems to know someone.

Just saw a show here for $8 with some amazing artist like Scarlet Oaks, Dial81 and a bunch more for a Gleaner's event.

Full disclosure: I know everyone who works here and one is my best friend, so this is no blind review. But, honestly, I loved the Belmont way before that. How do you think I got to know everyone here?

My friend Melody books the bands and she does a great job. All my favorite local bands -- Brendan Benson, Four Hour Friends, Tiny Steps, The Go, etc. -- have played here. And some out-of-town bands I'd never heard of until Melody said, "You HAVE to come to this show" -- Lions, Dirty Sweet -- have come through as well.

I've had some crazy times here. Like the time I bought a pair of boy shorts that said Dirty Sweet and proceeded to put them on right then and there (don't worry, I had a skirt on, so nothing was revealed except the panties I took off). Or the time I bought a Lions T-shirt and... proceeded to put it on right then and there (yes, revealing my bra in the process). Wait, I'm sensing a pattern.

No, but besides my by-gone crazy days, I've also made some less scandalous memories at the Belmont. The original Mademoiselle Mondays, when Amber did my nails. The art shows with free food. The time I made my now-boyfriend buy me a framed picture of Iggy Pop. The numerous, numerous times I tried to pick up guys and failed. The few times that I tried and succeeded (score!). Chilling on the couch behind the sound board. Busting into the basement band room to score a free beer (they now have a big sign on the basement door that says, "DO NOT ENTER -- NOT EVEN BANDS!"). Nights on the patio with Malarsh and Jared grilling hot dogs. Staying until 4 a.m. because I know the bartenders.

Ahhhh, Belmont. How I love thee. Especially after asking for months, "When does the wi-fi get put in, huh, huh??" Yay, wi-fi is here!!

They even have a better karaoke guy, now. No offense to Tania, but she didn't have many songs. My birthday MC himself, The Millionaire, is now the host on Wednesdays. Come on down and join us, please! He has 93,000 songs, it's awesome. But nobody knows about it yet, so it's dead at the moment! Come kill us softly with your song (sorry, that was cheesy). Maybe Malarsh will Rick Roll us again.

My one problem with the Belmont : ((( is something that's bothered me from the very first time I went in there --- there is no knee room at the bar!! You seriously can't scoot in. You have to sit about two feet back and reach for your drink or else you'll scrape your knees. That said, they did just get some really nice new stools and tables. And there's the sweet new bowling game, and of course, Galaga.

I love you Belmont. Or should I say "The 'Mont"? That's my new, dumb pet name for you. And believe me, I still love you the same now as I do when I graced your stools three nights a week. I'm loving you less often, but just as passionately.

So, I'm not quite sure I'd dub The Belmont a dive bar, I've been in much skeezier joints than this Hamtramck venue before. But all in all, The Belmont is pretty awesome. Located on Jos Campau in Polish Town, The Belmont is a great bar to grab a drink or catch a show, as some of Detroit's most popular local bands have graced the Belmont  stage. Shows are normally 5 bucks for 21 and over and 7 bucks for 18-20 years old.

And for the ladies, Mademoiselle Monday's are a must, with the chance to grab a martini and a manicure all in one join for only 10 bones, awesome!  In addition, the Belmont has PBR's for a mere dollar on Tuesdays  Rock N' Roll karaoke on Wednesdays, and made to order Bloody Mary's for 3 bucks during their Sunday Bloody Sunday's.  So, whether you're looking to grab a vodka and soda are are stopping in to check out a local band, The Belmont, with local art often decorating the joint, is a welcoming joint to drink and be merry.

I still don't understand why bars get WiFi, but they do, and the Belmont has it. If you get bored at a show you can sit in your car and check your mail between sets.

Actually, with some of the shows I've been to over the years, that doesn't sound like a bad idea!

The Belmont is your typical Hamtramck dive; long bar, cheap drinks, tall shots, loud as hell music, and something resembling a patio. I am frightful of these patio places, so with the exception of Mephisto's, I have not been on a single one of them (and maybe Mephisto's is to blame).

Like I said, the shots are tall. Expect a bang for your buck here - they end up resembling double shots or more here, and the bartenders don't seem to mind pouring them, as long as you tip.

The bands are rocky. If you're into gaudy belt buckles and the Who, then this is THE bar for you!

I have yet to be out on the "Padio", but this is a nice hole in the wall venue/bar. The bar part is massive, and the stage is tiiiiiiiny. Their bathrooms are surprisingly well lit and clean. The bands that grace the stage are great, and the cover is minimal, to say the least. The staff are friendly, and it now has wifi. What else could you want?
