Let me start by saying I want to rate this stupidly high, but it's hard to judge what everyone on Yelp is looking for so I settled on the non-committal 3 star rating.
This bar is a total shithole. Tiny building, multiple health code violations, and the hotspot for what few "All-American" "white trash" individuals live in Hamtramck. Not to mention the drinks served in plastic cups and the fact that the majority of people at the bar not only smoke, but light up freely inside. (I personally have no objection to this kind of thing but I know many do, hence why I include it in the review.)
Hank's is great.
My husband and I walked in, and were immediately feeling like outsiders. We were a full 20-30 years under the age demographic, and way overdressed (i.e. my husband in a button down shirt, me in a trendy sweater). But damn, if K. Hank's Bar isn't a sight to behold. Sure, we felt out of place, but no one went out of their way to make us feel uncomfortable and you have to appreciate the kind of homegrown conversation that happens in a place like this - how much the Mexican peso is worth, what it costs to process a freshly hunted buck, general work worries, etc.
And, the price of drinks is INSANELY LOW. We're no hipsters but we do love our PBR, and two ice cold bottles cost us a $2.50. Combine that with the vintage jukebox and excellent 80's music playing, and I'm sold. Dive bar at its best and we will likely be back, if only to make the regulars uncomfortable.
