First I have to have to say that I never write critiques. Most of the time of something was amiss at food or drink establishment I would just quietly leave and never go back. I do feel that I need to say something about Bend d'Vine. I have been going there on and off since they first opened over a year ago. At first it was really great. Music, fun and great value. New owners took over and have been trying to do a good job - but have failed. The energy is just flat. No music (unless you pay a cover to listen). Wine pours are really small and seem to get smaller as time goes on. I argued about the small pour and they insisted it was 6 oz. No way. It was more like 4 oz. Seems like the place is going downhill and the owners are trying to save money by giving less and less.

I originally put a 5 star review for this establishment but I am updating it due to the consistent issues we've had here.  The wine pours are ridiculously small!!!  They charge $9 for a glass of wine that costs $20-25 bottle and give smaller pours than a restaurant.  This has happened the last 3 times we've been in so it's not just a one time fluke.  The chocolate plates are ridiculously small as well.  For the price we felt that 3-4 people should be able to have a taste - not the case. There was barely enough for 2 people to have a "taste".  Not a bite, but a taste.  I am comparing this to any other high end restaurant in town where you can purchase dessert for $7-9 dollars and there is enough for 3-4 people to share much more than a taste!  Also compare to chocolatiers in the Portland area - this price point will provide an adequate amount.
The service has been bad as well.  The owner spends so much time chatting people up he ignores other patrons sitting and waiting.  It's fine if he wants to do this but then hire help to attend to other patrons.  For the prices charged they need to play the part!  Employ the staff and service to warrant these prices!
In my opinion the service, pours, and portions need to increase to match the price point being charged here.

What a delightful little cafe! The space is warm & cozy, and the staff is friendly. Good wine choices and affordable happy hour prices. Best for last: OMG - the chocolate!!

Stopped by on my way in downtown. Handmade food and dessert. Highly recommended for their wine collection.

Meh. This would be have been a nice, enjoyable place to sip on a glass of wine, but the owner was nervously hovering over us and other customers the entire time, making us feel uncomfortable the way he was checking with the waitress to ensure she had "helped" us (less than 1 minute after we had sat down). I had a glass of Zin on the menu that was great, and my boyfriend had Pinot Noir Patricia Greene that wasn't so great.  We might have tried some of their deserts that sounded delicious, but we couldn't wait to leave and avoid being asked once again how we liked our wine.  Don't get me wrong, I like it when an owner takes an active roll in ensuring his customers are happy, but he was so awkward and nervous.  It really ruined our time there.

For Thanksgiving we picked up champagne and a box of chocolates (truffle & bon-bon sampler) for our pre-dinner gathering. The chocolates were very popular - unique gourmet flavors and chocolatey-rich without being overpoweringly sweet. These chocolates will be taking over the hiding spot previously occupied by the Ghirardelli on top of the fridge.

Awesome!  We were wandering around downtown after a great dinner, searching for a place to grab some dessert and after dinner drinks. So glad we stumbled upon Bend d'Vine. The caramel lava cake with the strawberry chocolate wine was incredible. Ambiance and service was great as well. Highly recommend.

I cannot recommend Bend d'Vine for lunch.  I went there today with my husband, we were 2 of 5 patrons in the establishment.  The wait staff (one person) was timid and hesitant, and is not an experienced server.  She could not keep the orders of the two occupied tables straight.  It took 45 minutes for us to get our small ($9.50) sandwiches.  The sandwiches are called "panini" and you can tell they were put into a grill press, however the cheese is not melted and only the outer surface of the bread is warm.  The greens in the salad were fresh and tasty, but the honey mustard dressing seems like typical food service quality (nothing special and likely not homemade).  The limonata beverage ($2.75) tasted good but was served in a short tumbler which was not even full.  To the waitperson's credit, she brought us each 2 free truffles, which were delicious, but she did not say why, or mention the delays or difficulties with our order.

I had a wonderful glass of wine at a great happy hour price $ 4.50 in a large wine glass - exactly what I was looking for

Their maiden voyage in wine retail was a short one and today is the last day for original owners, Steve and April Whte, to be part of Bend d'Vine.  They've sold the biz to new owner(s).  The White's will be in the house tonight, to say adieu to their customers.  Bend d'Vine will continue as a wine bar under the new owners.
