I hardly ever write bad reviews but they worked hard for this one.
I opened my tab and handed them my card and ordered one drink (they keep the cards until you close your tab here). When I was done with this drink I went to close my tab and leave, it had been about one hour. The bartender who opened my tab informed me that my card "wasn't there". I asked him to double check after checking my pockets and purse. He then glanced back over the cards and informed me "I don't see it, it's not here". Sooo...you gave my card to someone else? "I don't know, I guess"
Not only do I have a very odd credit card and a very odd last name, but he even admitted to remembering the card and opening my tab! The worst part was he would not make eye contact with me and after I pointed to exactly where I saw him set my card he simply replied "it's not there".
So I went into panic mode since he seemed to think they had given my card to someone else and went through the delight of canceling the card.
This morning when I called them they still had not found it.
Then I got a call back, they found my card...They had placed it under the name of the company on the card, which by the way does not look like a persons name what so ever.
If this bartender had simply lifted the paper they place on top of the card with the "name" written on it (such a great method as you can see), this whole situation could have been avoided. The way he handled it was awful as well.
BUT THIS IS THE WORST PART:
When I went to go pick up the cancelled card they told me it got declined (DUH! I had to cancel it because of you guys) and insisted I pay this small tab. RIDICULOUS.
The least they could do was comp it.
IF YOU GO HERE: Keep your card, no open tabs.
Best place we went to in Blacksburg. Short line, no cover even during a big game weekend. Despite being absolutely packed, did not have too much trouble ordering drinks at the bar. Pretty good vibe and some good tunes playing throughout the night.
The place has a large selection of TVs so it would be a great place to catch a game.
Easy access to Poor Billy's downstairs is also a big plus, you get two venues at one location.
Would recommend to anyone visiting Blacksburg.
More of a 3.5.
Bar food isn't bad at all and trivia night is a lot of fun. The highlight of Big Al's is how early the happy hour starts. Its tough to beat when you get out of class and don't want to wait it out till 4 or 5pm.
Great place to watch games! They have a bunch of TV and have almost every game on (NFL of course). It's like NFL redzone if you can snag a nice seat in the middle of the bar.
Good selection of beers both domestic and imports and they have some type of drink special every day.
The food is better than most bar foods and their carrot cake is flipping awesome.
Open atmosphere with a lot of TVs so it's a great place to watch a game with a group of friends or flying solo.
It was great being back in Blacksburg, and when I climbed those infamous stairs to Big Al's it took me right back to my good old college days. Â
The bar is pretty big with two pool tables, a full sized shuffle board table, darts, and Big Buck Hunter professional edition. Â The walls are lined with Virginia Tech paraphernalia including plaques proudly displaying the Hokie's past sporting accomplishments, a great atmosphere for a college reunion.
Meeting up with a bunch of old friends never felt so great reminiscing about the days of old over a few cheap pitchers of Coors light and some great bar food. Â I recommend the buffalo burger, it was damn tasty with waffle fries on the side.
I have a lot of great memories here and hope to have more to come in the future. Â Visit Big Al's if you're ever in Blacksburg, Virginia, guaranteed good times.
