My current vote for best Italian Beef in town. Â A generous mound of tender and well-seasoned beef, and a jus/gravy that's just right. Â More tender beef than Fat Dan's, less oily/greasy gravy than South of Chicago, and a better bargain than Fresco. Â I don't know why it took me so long to check them out, but I hope to get here a lot more often.
Review Source:we ordered delivery for the first time yesterday. the food got to our door about 20 minutes after ordering and was warm. everything was very good, we both had the Philly steak and chicken. the cheesecake wasn't too great, but the strawberry lemonade was awesome. will definitely order again soon
Review Source:Good hood food! Looks a little intimidating from the outside considering it's on 38th & Meridian, but I gave it a go, and I'm surprised.
- Gyros are excellent!
- Frozen Lemonade is killer
- Good price for a crap ton of food
- Large variety on menu - Italian beef, philly steak, nachos, etc. (Yessssss.)
- Friendly staff (cashier said that me and the boyfriend were "the cutest couple". Aww!)
I would only say that the parking and atmosphere could definitely use some improvement. But all in all, a great local alternative to the Steak-n-Shake.
Big City Grill serves my favorite food in Indy. The gyros, philly steaks, and italian beef are all incredible, huge, and very reasonably priced (like, 5 bucks). On Sundays, you can get two phillies for 7.99. Did your jaw just drop to the floor? It should have.
The burgers are mediocre, but whatever, you can get an awesome, cheap burger lots of places in Indy (Working Man's Friend and the Alley Cat come to mind).
More importantly, where else in Indianapolis can you get cheap gyros, italian beefs, and philly steaks? Nowhere. Go here now. If you don't like this place, you're probably incredibly uppity, obnoxious and generally in the worst 10% of human beings on the planet (right alongside Henry Kissinger and Adrian Lamo). Oh, and the owner is really friendly and accomodating, just don't act like a moron.
The worst thing about having braces now? The fact that I probably shouldn't go to Big City.
Well, that might not be the worst part, but it ranks up there.
The Philly is delicious, and the melted provolone on it is to die for. But, combined with their lemonade, it can be like cement on teeth, hence why I probably shouldn't go there now that I have this gear on my grill.
The steaming hot fries are tasty, too. The guy who's been working when I've been before is always friendly, and though the place is quite noisy even when few people are there, it's worth stopping by for a hot, delicious sandwich. They have veggie options, too, but my inner carnivore has gotten the best of me each time I've been for lunch.
I'm extremely disappointed in the treatment I and my co-workers rec'vd from not
employee but from the manager/owner himself! Â We ordered a delivery of 3 large
fish dinners
and if anyone has eaten their you know they are quite pricey! Â Well, after the
driver left
we noticed that we didn't get any cole slaw! Â I know that sometimes things can
happen especially when very busy can be overlooked! Â I called & spoke to the most
rudest business owner I've ever encountered in my life! Â He started yelling that
it was I quote, "it's just Cole Slaw, & it's not the end of the world!!!" Â And told us that
he didn't need our business! Â Too bad! for him!!!!! Â Our company has 48,000
employees! Â Last
week when we ordered, the food was good! Â We put a good word in over our email
system about the food being good! Â Well, nobody from here will ever be eating there
again! Â Too bad! Â He could have had a franchise!!!
I order from this place at least weekly. Â The food portions are good. Â The food itself tastes awesome. Â The owner is really nice, and always has good conversation. Â They have a new girl taking orders now. Â She's been there about 2 months, and is super friendly. Â She is also on top of things, and my orders are always right whether I go in or order delivery.
If you don't try this place, you are doing a disservice to yourself.
After an unsuccessful night of chasing food trucks, we landed here after reading other reviews. We still weren't really sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised! We ordered a steak sandwich, burger, fries, coke and lemonade - all for around $12. The steak sandwich was really good, the half pound burger was also good, although I wondered if it really was a half pound. The fries were the fun, crinkley kind - nice and hot. And the lemonade tasted wonderful. The woman behind the counter was surper friendly and the place was really clean. I would go back!
Review Source:I have no idea why this place is so well received. The lemonade was still made from syrup and the food was what you would expect at any grill, bar, joe-schmo eat in. For the price I was happy, and the service was fast and friendly but I can't foresee myself stopping in here on future trips to Indy.
Review Source:Here is the deal- no its not in the easiest place to get in and out of, but good lord the food makes up for it. This is serious steak sandwiches we are talking about that melt in your mouth. The lemonades are just great also. Take a chance and try it out - you will not be dissapointed.
Review Source:This place deserve 4 stars for good food and generous portions! Â On our first visit we ordered the cheese steak sandwich and gyros and they both were on par. Â When dealing with hot sandwiches I'm glad to see they actually make their sandwiches to order on the grill, everything comes out piping hot. Â I burned my lips on the first bite but it was so delicious that I ate through the pain. Â
For $5 a sandwich this place really pack in a lot of meat especially the gyros. Â For $3 more you can add a side of fries and a lemonade. Â I heard great things about the lemonade here but it's really nothing to rave about, it just doesn't taste fresh and natural to me. Â They also have great special each day such as 2 hot dogs and lemonade for $4.99 on Monday. Â I will definitely come back to try their wings but it's probably going be for take out. Â While dining there...random people walked in and try to sell us knick knacks. Â The guy in charge eventually kicked them out but I prefer to eat my lunch in peace.
Great place mostly because they deliver. Beware though the delivery charge is 2.50 per order. Food was pretty good but they messed up a lot of our order. They put our sauce on the wings and I specifically asked them to be on the side. Lemonade did not live up to the hype, it was more of a syrupy flavored icee. They forgot one of our cheese sauces that we paid extra for. Just little things and why I couldn't give them any more stars for my first experience with them. The gyros were delicious as well as their creamy cucumber sauce. Philly cheese steak was awesome and big enough for almost lunch and dinner. Â They have a website that you can order from and a special just about every day. Â When we called to place our order the gentleman said it would be ready when we got there so we went ahead and came and still waited a good 20 minutes. Â When I asked about the fish batter for my next visit, the guy who seemed to be in charge and whom other yelpers describe as the owner....said he didn't know much about the food. He leaves all that up to the ladies. Â Hmmm.... I prefer when the owner of a food establishment is a foodie himself. Â It's in very sketchy strip mall with limited parking right off 38th street. Â Take a friend with you if you are going to pick up anytime after dusk.
Review Source:I'm always hesitant to give a restaurant 5 stars after just one visit, but I'm going to ignore my star protocol in this case.
Since my daughter and her husband were coming over to my house to help me fix some things, I offered to get dinner. Â My daughter works near this place and has been there several times for lunch and suggested we get gyro sandwiches delivered. Â Yes! Â They now deliver :-)
When placing my order, I asked about the sides, and now can kick myself for not trying the onion rings or fries...but the sandwiches were a good size and filled us up very well. Â From the time I ordered to the time they arrived at my door...under 30 minutes. Â I was only too happy to tip the guy well.
The gyro sandwiches were stuffed with tender beef, sweet onions and large tomato slices on flat bread with a very tasty gyro sauce. Â I wish I had asked the delivery person to bring me a menu...but next time I think I'll mosey on over to the restaurant and check it out...and bring home a menu.
I love this place! It's next to my apartment, the food is delicious, & it's well priced. The owner is super nice. He makes me vegetarian Philly Steaks, which are incredible and so good when hungover. The fries are delicious, as is the tzatziki sauce for my veggie gyro. Lemonade is fantastic. Also open until 11 on weekends, which is convenient.
Review Source:Let me preface this by saying I live within a block of this restaurant. This place has the best Philly cheese steak I have had in Indianapolis and for a fantastic price. The owner is incredibly accommodating and the food is just fantastic.
My wife is a vegetarian and when he first opened his doors we asked if there was any way he could make a veggie Philly. Though it's not officially 'on the menu' you can now order one and get awesome grilled mushrooms instead of steak on your Philly (he even cleans off a section of the grill beforehand out of courtesy). The burgers are great, the fries are good the wings are good the lemonade is amazing! Â
This place takes Penn Station, bends it over it's knee and spanks it's bottom. I love it, and I eat here practically every week.
I had some business downtown, so I stopped here for lunch based on Josh M.'s review here. I wasn't disappointed. The place is clean and fairly spacious, although there's only 3 or 4 small tables. I asked the owner what he suggested, and he said the philly steak is the crowd favorite.
As soon as I saw the bread, I knew I was in for a treat. Wow! The sandwich was terrific and so was the lemonade. I'm not often in this area, but I just may start going out of my way to get here regularly. It's that good!
The owner, a New York native, will smile if you ask him "Why Indianapolis??" and he'll reply "Starting a business in New York is very difficult, Too much competition, but I can come out here to Indy and start a business without any major competition."
Then it dawns on you that this business will succeed, the only problem is getting the name out there. With such excellent service and a wonderful owner, that won't be too difficult. The store has only been open 45 days and he's still trying to esconsce himself.
If you go, I suggest you try the Manburger. Its a quarter (or a third, I forget) pound burger made by hand.
When you visit this place you should treat it like a sit down resturaunt but with a big city type of feel.
You won't spend more then 8 bucks for a meal. But it is VERY worth it! The lemonade is amazing! Made from real lemons!
I want to see this place open one year from now, and I want to see it flourish!
