I've passed The Barking Dog Cafe many times, but I only recently discovered that it's a restaurant. I had assumed it was some kind of a dog food bakery from the name.  Oops!

A friend and I met for lunch. She tried the clam chowder and liked it.  I'm not a seafood fan so I skipped it.  If you don't like seafood, your choices are going to be a little on the limited side here. I went for the single cheeseburger with a side of their self-proclaimed homemade coleslaw.  The burger was good.  It tasted exactly like a burger from Steak N' Shake (flat with crispy edges).  The bun tasted like a grocery store bun- nothing special about it.  The serving of cole slaw was preposterously miniscule- the fork almost didn't fit into the tiny metal condiment cup it's served in.  It was fine, but is very similar to KFC's slaw.  So I basically had a Steak N' Shake burger with some KFC slaw- for a few dollars more than that should cost.

My friend had half of a tuna salad sandwich to go with her soup.  It was very basic white albacore tuna and mayonnaise on what was probably a whole grain white bread.  She said it wasn't bad at all, but she wouldn't order it again.  What she really wanted was some kind of soup and sandwich lunch combo- they don't offer it here.

I ordered a Diet Coke.  It arrived in the can, with a plastic cup that was 1/4 filled with ice.  My friend ordered water.  The charming waitress said "Tap?"  Yeah, that's fine. I wasn't asked if I wanted a refill- I was asked if I wanted another Diet Coke.  No thanks.  I'm not sure why they don't have fountain drinks.  Odd for a restaurant of this caliber.

The waitress was very cheery and answered all our questions- she was full of knowledge about the food here.

Our bill, with tip, was $25.  That's kind of pricey for what we ordered.  The food wasn't unique or distinctive at all, but that's probably because of what we ordered.

The atmosphere and service were fine, although my friend and I both could have done without the rather loud album rock that was playing.  We had an okay lunch, but both agreed we probably wouldn't return anytime soon.

Just outstanding! ....the best BLT sandwich I've ever had. Hearty, flavorful, crunchy, yet so fresh tasting. It's one of those things you eat than instantly get a craving for days later- again and again. Their seafood which my friend had was equally fresh tasting and portions were incredibly filling.

The staff is attentive, polite, and coupled with a very warm and welcoming atmosphere makes this place a must see.

That they are dog friendly just adds extra brownie points to a very notable establishments with fantastic food that hits the spot.

Went here for lunch and had the a portabella burger and it was really good. I wasn't sure about the description of how the burger was to be cooked (thin and crispy on the edges), but with a juicy portabella and the other fixin's it was excellent!

The frites and chipotle ketchup was tasty too.

Good atmosphere, good service. I'll be back.
