I have been eating here since they first opened as "Big Tuna"......great atmosphere and sushi is good.....but somewhere along the way, they forgot to clean. It is possibly one of the most filthiest places I have ever been to, down to the plates they deliver the food on. We had to send back sushi because the plate was disgusting with crusted old food. And we used to sit and eat at the bar, but I just couldn't take the filth in front of me as I ate. The machine they use to take orders is crusted with a THICK film of food, and it hasn't been cleaned in months-guaranteed. We have eaten there so much, we have noticed that the same dirt and dust is still in certain places. We've complained, but it seems no one cares enough to fix it. We have stopped eating from there in fear that we might eat dirty fish or something....what a shame-they had good sushi too.....

This was my first time to the Orland Park location, so I can't speak to how it's changed since changing from Big Tuna to Woow, but I can say I prefer the Frankfort location.

The spicy tuna roll was good (spicy tuna is my favorite thing, so I always judge a sushi place by that roll), but unfortunately, the spider roll was Not Good--it was very fishy and too mushy. I was actually nervous about it when I ate it, but luckily I did not suffer any food poisoning. What was amazing, though, was the Snow White roll. It was fresh tasting and seriously yummy.

The service was fine and they didn't rush us, even though we lingered till past closing time. The environment is nice and not too loud--easy to have a conversation. Still, with all its plusses, I won't go out of my way to return. When a meal is as expensive as sushi tends to be, I really have to trust that I won't be disappointed, and that spider roll has shaken my confidence in Woow.

Out of all the expensive "creme de la creme" "trendy" sushi joints in Downtown Chicago ((Japonais, Sunda, Sushi Samba, Coast, ETC))  Big Tuna of Orland Park is my favorite spot. I literally will make the trip out to orland just to fill my big tuna craving. Their Godzilla roll is to DIE FOR. I could eat it 7 days a week! And the snow white roll is just as good. Those are my top favorites but I really havent gone wrong with anything else on the menu. You would never guess this place has such amazing food because of its stupid name. They officially changed it to "Woow" which isnt much better than "Big Tuna" but dont let the name fool you this place is GOLD. I wish they would open another location in the city, even though when word would get out on the amazing sushi you probably wouldnt be able to get a reservation for months!

There are so many sushi restaurants that their sushi seafood ingredients consist of only shrimp, crab stick, and spicy tuna, then charge you $15 for its nasty food (cough* cough* Wok N Fire)  But big tuna has SUPER fresh seafood and lots of varieties of it.

Go here nowww and get the godzilla roll then thank me later :)  you're welcome!

Great sushi. Always fresh.  Has great service and never have to wait to get a table. The beer selection could be a little better but I don't go there for the beer.

When this was indeed Big Tuna, it was the best sushi in the area.  That said, it has since changed to Woow Sushi and the quality has unfortunately diminished a bit.  I was a frequent customer of Big Tuna ... but now I'm a bit afraid to make another trip to Woow.  The rolls we used to get were fantastic - very flavorful, ingredients were all fresh, (if tempura) the crispiness of the batter was great, etc.  The last time we ate here our soup was tasteless, the sushi was cut FAR too thick, and the rolls were nowhere near as tasty as before.  I am really hoping this was just an off night, because we really loved both dining in and getting takeout from this place.

Visited on 09/09/2012.   Now called Woow.   Not a good as Woow in LaGrange.         I ordered Hibachi Fillet Mignon, and I only ate half of it.  The half that I ate was the Fillet Mignon (not many pieces) and Rice, and the other half that I did not eat was the soggy noodles and bland broccoli.   Salads were soggy with too much dressing.  "Seafood Tempura" was okay, no "wow factor".  Drinks were good.    Food not worth the price we paid ($62.02 without Tip).

Atmosphere and decor is a bit nicer than most sushi places.
Lunch special pricing can't be beat. for 10.99, you get miso soup, ginger salad(pretty good dressing!), and 3 rolls from a list. Decent choices, not the best, but for that kind of deal it's more than reasonable. After lunch special, all the rolls on there are at least $6, miso soup is $2, so you do the math.
Fried rice probably one of the best I've had-they use sushi rice instead of long grain, and it's different and delightful. I've had the chicken and the beef. A little lighter taste than a standard fried rice but still flavorful.
Sushi is good, presented nicely. I've had the philly roll, spicy salmon, and shrimp tempura. They were fresh and tasty. Not the best, but no complaints.
    Miso soup=standard goodness.
Tried some kind of curry with chicken. I have rarely tried curry, so have little to compare to, but I liked it. The sauce was creamy- looked like soup, but it was a very generous portion. My friend had asked for it extra spicy, and it was not, but still a good flavor.
Red bean mochi was standard good- not too mushy or too dry, just right!

Now the complaints. The service is not the greatest. The waitress I've had a couple times now is very short and rushes you if you're not ready to order. With our menus still open, she asked 3 times within less than 10 min if we were ready. I was having a leisurely lunch and didn't want to rush. Then once the food came she was nowhere to be found, and it was kinda hard to eat salad with chopsticks. I managed, but that's one thing I'd prefer a fork for.

A different day when I went, I had asked for a side of said fried rice, which is listed as $3 on the menu. All it says is Side of Fried Rice, $3.  Doesn't specify. So when she asked if I wanted chicken, beef, or shrimp, I said chicken and my mom ordered beef. When we got the bill, mine was $5, hers was $6. I told the waitress that we were mislead since the menu clearly states it's $3, and she said that was only for vegetarian. Okay, but she hadn't offered a vegetarian option. She seemed irritated that I was bothered that i was overcharged, and did not adjust the bill.  This was also on a day that we arrived at 2:45, and lunch stops at 2:30. Really!?!? Who eats dinner before 3pm? "Oh I can't change price in computer"  So besides being overcharged for a small bowl of rice, I also had only gotten soup and one roll for the same price of soup, salad, and 3 rolls, had it been 16 min earlier.

If I knew of any other decent sushi place in the suburbs, I would never go back. But alas, Chicago isn't known for the healthiest meals, so I have no choice but to grin and bare it at Woow. I don't like the name, because it's not Woow at all. I would think you'd be the whole experience to claim that status. It just really throws me that it is truly one of the most beautifully detailed sushi joints anywhere-the sparkly tiles in the walls are pretty high on the price list, the tables are nice, booths are nice, even the placemats are higher end, so why not have 5 star service!?
Go for lunch, but save your money and go indulge in greasy goodness elsewhere if it's after 230pm.

Service, pricing, and timing gets 1 star.
    Food gets 4 stars.
    Decor gets 4 stars.
    = 3 stars avg.

It's called Woow now. Same owner, same great food. The all you can eat sushi for 19.95 is a steal. Sushi is excellent, as are the salads that come with that deal (seaweed, cucumber, etc.) Had (among many other things) the mackerel nigiri today, and it was the closest I've felt to the ocean in a very long time. Excellent service and very pretty, relaxing ambience as well. I just love this place.

I went to Big Tuna for their lunch special. It's not the best sushi I've ever had, but it certainly was good. And honestly, it's hard to beat soup, salad, and 3 maki rolls for just $10.99.

The service was fast enough for being during lunch. We on;y had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated.

I plan to go back some time and try a few special rolls.

Divine sushi with fresh ingredients and a creative variety of dishes. All you can eat lunch sushi lunch special for  $21.99. Sweet!  (Mon-Saturday 11:30 AM -2:30 PM)  Relaxed atmosphere with intimate ambiance and tasteful decor. The servers here are polite, but table service seems to be hit or miss. Often they overlook a drink or make an error on the check. Still, they are sincere and quick to correct their mistake during my own experiences

Lovely indoor location with ample, comfortable seating and tasty offerings; There is also a patio outdoors to take in the weather while you dine. I wish they would invest in an screened, outdoor garden and fountain due to traffic nearby, but the patio is still fun when you're in the mood for a breeze. Dressing casually is fine, but you will fit in nicely if you're in your finer threads. Don't be afraid to get your sexy on!
Nice mix of people and so refreshing that you can actually engage in conversation while dining. I like to take my time and just....chill...relishing all the flavors and digesting at a pleasing, soothing pace.

Full bar if you'd like to linger with Japanese brews or cocktails.

    Slow down and enjoy. :)

I came here with my family for dinner. From the outside, the restaurant really looks like nothing special, being part of a strip mall and all. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the interior. There is some intimate dim lighting and nice modern decor. There is also fancy little nook where there is a booth that is probably good for smallish gatherings. It's sort of trendy looking, but also bordering on gaudy in some parts. (I could do without the animal-print felt covering the wall on one side.)

I ordered seaweed salad and the avocado roll with a side of fried rice. Yes, nothing too exciting, but I'm vegetarian. The seaweed salad was good, but really just the same as any other seaweed salad I've had before. Same with the avocado roll. I just couldn't bring myself to finish my fried rice, though. It was sort of bland, but it had this odd smell that I'd never gotten from any fried rice I've ever had. I think it smelled kind of like ham? Overall, it was alright, but I don't plan to come back.

Good sushi plus cute waiter? Yes please!

They have some really tasty sushi here. Definitly try the Godzilla roll. This was the first "real" sushi I ever tried, and it introduced me to the delicious animal that is eel. I also had some squid that was very good.

The only reason that I didn't give it five stars is due to the price (it's expensive) and the overabundance of avocado and cream cheese (cream cheese is for breads, avocado is an abomination at any level).

Come here for their lunch buffet between 11 and 2:30pm Mon- Sat. You do, however, have to sit at the bar. The buffet is $19.99 and includes soups, salad, some appetizers, and a variety of sashimi and sushi rolls. You can check out their website to get a breakdown of all the rolls that they have available for their buffet. Overall, I think it's an awesome deal. The fish is fresh and they don't load it with rice like some of the other sushi buffets I've been to in the city. I also saw on their menu that they have pretty decent lunch specials too, if you don't want to go the buffet route. But keep in mind, if you want the buffet, you have to sit at the bar. Having been here for only the buffet a few times, I don't think I'd ever come here for dinner and pay full price for the rolls or sashimi (they are a bit pricey) since the lunch buffet is such an awesome deal!

Was a nice place to go.  The sushi was average, nothing special, not bad, just average.
The prices were a bit high, and can rack up pretty quickly.
The restaurant part seemed nice, definitely different from what it looks like from outside.  Very nice, but the tables are a little crowded together, so we just moved to the bar.
I did like the decor very much. I have heard that they have a great all you can eat sushi lunch that is pretty cheap for sushi, so I am planning on trying that soon!

Tom Yum soup is great.  Seafood is always super fresh.  I am a huge fan of the sashimi selections, which are very decently priced.  If you are more of roll person I recommend the Godzilla and Angel Hair.  I also enjoy the complimentary edamame and honey dew.

It takes alot for me to write a review after a Friday night dinner but just had to update this place.  We came here because the sushi was fresh but tonight was very different.  We are not sushi newbies and definitely know fresh vs. not fresh.  The tuna was not fresh and disappointing.  I'm still having the bad taste in my mouth - literally.  The rest of the rolls were not up to par and again disappointing.

I hope this isn't a sign of the establishment going down in quality and maybe just a case of not getting a fresh shipment of seafood.  It's difficult enough in this suburban abyss of bad chain restaurants trying to find a diamond in the rough.  I'm desperate for some decent chow out here and I could scream at times that people don't demand better and more diverse places to eat.  I was looking forward to great sushi but it was far from it tonight.

I grew up in the area so in general, we've tried nearly every restaurant- fast food, upscale, dives- you name it.  Big Tuna is our go-to casual sushi place.

And woah woah woah is it excellent for lunch! There is an unlimited shushi/sashimi special that you can get between the hours of 11-3p (or something like that) for $25 per person.  Sometimes I get the unlimited sushi just so I can have a few of their salads (avocado very yummy, cucumber very refreshing) with my meal.

Dining tip: Bring an extra sweater. One wall of the restaurant has floor-to-ceiling windows that exit to the outdoor patio, so it's almost always very chilly.

Where should I begin?  We stopped in for lunch on a Friday. Place was busy, but not full.  We were seated next to a large group of young people, one of whom used so much profanity I felt like I was being slapped in the face.  I couldn't eat. They weren't leaving any time soon so I asked to be relocated.  There were lots of empty tables but I was told that it was not possible to move. Our food hadn't been served yet, it wouldn't have been a big deal for them to give us another table, but they refused. So I had to ask the boy to stop.  He agreed but it spoiled our entire lunch experience.

    The portions were small.
There was a hair on my plate.
    I will not go back.

We've eaten here twice, once during the week for lunch, and once on a Saturday, and it was solid in both instances.

Generally when I go out for sushi, for dinner I usually just order pieces of whatever I'm in the mood for, after asking the chef what they have that day that is especially good, and miso soup.

Similarly for lunch, I almost always order the lunch special/lunch bento if available, and that's what I've done here both times.  It consists of 5 pieces of sushi, a California roll (not a big fan of California rolls, but that's what you get and this one is fine as far as that goes) miso soup, and a simple salad with ginger dressing.

The miso soup is good, though I've had better, the sushi is fresh without any hint of 'fishiness', and the pieces run the gamut without repetition.  The salad is fine, and what one would expect at a lunch special.  I didn't see a combo lunch special (sushi/sashimi) but I may have just not seen it.  Substituting a piece of sushi for a piece of sashimi might be a nice mix.

The service has been somewhat inconsistent.  I like being welcomed at the door when I enter a restaurant, and thanked for my patronage when I leave, and that occurred on both occasions. The first time we went though, our server was a bit distant, and didn't seem to want to be there, so that was a little off-putting.

Our server yesterday, Lily, was outstanding though, coming around often enough to see if we needed anything, and doing it without hovering.  When we finished, she brought the check, picked it up as soon as we had placed it on the table, and returned with the change very quickly.  Needing to wait for the check when you are finished eating is one of my pet peeves, and that didn't happen here.

If the reasonably priced, good quality sushi wasn't enough, Lily was an example of great customer service and doing a job well, and we'll be back to eat there whenever we get out that way again.

Had the Godzilla roll, Red Dragon roll, and chicken Pad Thai. All entrees were delicious. Let's start with my fave..the Godzilla roll. It exceeded my expectations...great texture! And it wasn't as spicy although there was a little pepper sign on the menu indicating that it's supposed to. It's just a hint of heat! I loved it. The Pad Thai came out and I thought it was gonna be dry and tasteless from the presentation, but it had tremendous flavor! Red Dragon roll was superb..I love salmon and avocado together and this I believe also had spicy tuna. Great staff. Great ambience. Classy decor and nice, intimate environment! The outside of the place doesn't do the inside justice! :)

I love the sushi, don't get me wrong.... one of the best sushi places on the southside in the burbs! The only reason I rated it lower than usual is because the prices are outrageous! $50 bill for 3 specialty rolls is a bit too much for my taste... it seems like the prices keep increasing steadily everytime I visit.

The tempura shrimp and veggies were overbattered and I didn't really like it... but like I said, for the sushi.. it definitely the place to go!!! Godzilla roll is amazing!!!

Don't bother with the miso soup.  It's completely without taste.

The sushi on the other hand is quite fresh and good.  They use pretty large cubes of fish in their rolls and the price isn't bad for sashimi.  The restaurant decor is kind of trendy and the bar area seems lively.  I'll be back... just not for the soup.

This is the same quality and a lot cheaper the ambiance is romantic so it's perfect for date night and the service is good. I totally recommend big tuna and can't wait to go again !!!

Went on a Saturday at 11:30 with a party of 10, we were the first customers.  I don't think they do reservations, but we told them we were coming.  The place is not that big, so a party of 10 is about 1/3 of the restaurant.

I have to agree with other reviews.  Do not let the outside, strip mall apperance fool you.  The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous.  It is intimate and beautifully decorated.  This would be a great date restaurant.

They had the 'all you can eat' sushi deal at the bar, but also at the tables. Maybe it is always like this, not sure.  That is what 8 out of the 10 of us got.  All you can eat sushi for 8 people - - a lot of rolls and such were tried.  I don't think there were any complaints.  Everything was fresh and tasted wonderful.   The spicey crabstick rolls were one of my favoroites.  The only thing I would say is that the smoked salmon in the phili roll tasted different, maybe a little too smoked if possible.

Service was wonderful - not slow at all.  Very attentive.   I can't wait to go back!

What beautiful decor in this place!!!  It is such a fooler as it sits in a strip mall across from an Aldi store.  Go inside and you would think you were downtown in a 4 star restaurant.

I can't tell you what my favorite items are as I have been there twice and have tried quite a few things.  Nothing stands out as great - yet - but everything is very good.

Walk in, you find this place sets the mood for the perfect date. Well dimmed lights, a "cozy" atmosphere, and with sushi! How much better can this get! I recommend coming here for a date that you want to impress. During lunch time, I recommend sitting at the bar for the "all you can eat sushi" for $20!

Pros: Japanese atmosphere with well lighting.
              Large variety of sushi.
Lunch time: (11:00- 14:00)  all you can eat sushi
Presentation of food is very impressive.

    Con's:  Pushy service
Napkins under the tables to hold the tables in balance.
Don't recommend sitting in the back, they kinda forget you sometimes.

Impressive, modern decor - although it was a little dark in the restaurant.

We sat at a table, but you can order all you can eat sushi during if you sit at the sushi bar.

Cucumber salad was delicious and refreshing. All of the sushi we ordered was not amazing but it was still really good. The spicy salmon and spicy tuna rolls were my favorites.

If this place was in the city, with amazing sushi options, I'm not sure it would survive. But for the 'burbs it was sufficient!

Whoa - who's been hiding this little nugget of deliciousness?

First of all, the restaurant is on the end of a pretty new strip mall.  Walking up, I kind of expected it to be the Chipotle of the sushi world.  However, it was a really well decorated restaurant.  It had a very modern-Japanese feel and while I typically do not like such narrow dinning areas, they definitely worked the space restrictions to their advantage.

To start, I had the cucumber salad which was served with a very tasty sweet and sour vinegar.  For the rest of the meal, we ordered two rounds of sushi including Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, Yellowtail, Alaskan, Avacado, Shrimp Tempera, and their "007" roll.  I enjoyed all but the 007 roll.  I had a hard time with the texture.  Thankfully, everyone else in our party loved it so it certainly was gobbled up.

Unexpectedly, the staff brought us honey-do-melon as our meal concluded.  The fresh, cool fruit was a perfect way to end the dinner.

I will certainly be back to Big Tuna.  It may not be particularly close to my house but the extra few miles up the road is certainly worth a quality sushi meal!

I was so pleasantly surprised walking into Big Tuna! Swanky, clean, modern, not at all what I expected from the outside in a strip mall.

The sushi was good, fresh, artistically plated. Nothing too over the top, but a lot of selections to choose from. The edamame appetizer was awesome. Drinks were well poured.

I will do this one again!

My boyfriend and I decided to give this place a shot. Seeing that the name is Big Tuna we thought it must be owned by Caucasians, but it isn't. Sushi is really really good! My boyfriend and I venture to many sushi restaurants and most places don't really leave a good note but this one did. Free edaname as a starter. We ordered 5 different rolls and they were really good. (We would've been fine with 4 rolls). Portions are decent, they give you what you pay for. Price is your average sushi restaurant price.   I highly recommend the chef special roll. It is both our favorite. My second favorite would be the spicy yellowtail roll. My boyfriend's second favorite was the godzilla roll.

It is a nice place to go on a date, to meet up with your girlfriends, or even a family gathering. Very nice atmosphere. Service was great and all the sushi chefs greet you when you walk in (you'll pass the sushi bar before entering the dining area). The bathroom is cute btw.

What was weird was that we had to ask for wasabi. I guess most customers who go there do not eat sushi with wasabi? but when we asked for wasabi (since it didn't come with any on our plate), our waitress was a bit surprised..... I don't know why.

Overall, a great dining experience! Good sushi for a decent price.

This place is awes. Ive been here twice. Once at a table and once bellied up to the actual sushi bar. Its so flipping sweet to watch these guys make all of their creations.

Everything was really fresh and tasted great. I got the spicy tuna rolls, cucumber rolls and the eel. They even gave me an extra piece of eel which was fan-freaking-tastic. They gave us a fruit bowl (no charge) at the end which really hit the spot too.

As for the prices, it was pretty good/accurate. Sometimes sushi can be way overpriced, but here its pretty spot on for what you get. Good things come in three's so they say, that means Ill be back here if Im in that area again.

I hate to hate on my own people, but sometimes the Chinese should stick to cheap children's toys and beef chow fun.

I've dined at Big Tuna twice -- the first time with family for the lunch buffet from 11-2. In case you don't know, my family=cheap mofo's. So yes, we proceeded to order everything from their unlimited menu, and yes we wore elastic pants especially for the occasion. The sushi selection wasn't entirely big or impressive, but the appetizers were pretty worth it. The avocado salad came with half of an avocado-- sliced, and the seaweed salad arrived in a decent portion (though with a little excess sesame oil.)

DEFINITELY order the Harumaki (Japanese pork or seafood egg rolls with plum sauce). You can thank me later.

There weren't any specialty rolls that came with the buffet, just your standard run of the mill California, Spicy Tuna, Philadelphia etc. etc...
The sashimi was pretty fresh, I must say.

Both times I've dined here the service was lacking. Upon seeing their own kind, my family promptly ordered everything in Chinese so I knew language wasn't the problem. The petite little waitress had to be re-reminded a few times what we ordered, and the appetizers didn't arrive until we were almost through with the meal.

If you come here for dinner-- actually don't. They keep the inside of the place like an ice box, and the sushi just isn't worth it. The rice inside my roll was still warm, and the wrap to one of my appetizers fell apart :( Between two people it came out to be $80 including tip.

Sorry, Chinese. I'll root for you in the Olympics though =

Stylish? Yes. Pushy? Yes. While this place makes great sushi, it has more rules than my high school in terms of their all you can eat sushi. It also used to have a dinner all you can eat sushi menu that offered more roles and was more expensive, but worth it. They now only offer their lunch sushi all you can eat. Truthfully, it really isn't worth the all you can eat sushi special. They watch with a steadfast eye while you eat and remind you of the sushi rules. ie. one can't leave three or more piece of sushi on their place or they are charged for that role on top of their all you can eat price. You can only order two rolls at a time and until those are gone you can't order more.
I don't know I enjoy their exotic rolls and their fresh take on sushi. I just wish they had less stipulations on their meals. Heck, I have rules at home, at work, in America, I don't need rules while I eat.
