The college bar of Southington!! We don't have any big colleges though? Who cares!
We were on a quest to find a place to relax, have a couple beers, and play cards on a Saturday night. Well... hell, this was perfect for that. The bartender was super cool and had a lot of pride in the beer selection there, and there was quite the selection! There were groups of all ages just hanging out, and it was really easy to make friends.
We spent hours playing cards, and trying different kinds of beers. They have some funny college bar type shots (swedish fish, dirty ashtray) and at the end of the night we decided to try a dirty ashtray on the bartender's suggestion. It was like a baileys milkshake topped with coffee grounds, very yummy. Oh yeah and it was served in an ashtray (I am just going to assume it was clean!) The bar cheered us on as we chugged it down. Seemed like an aggressive response for a drink that tasted like a dessert, but hey, I'll take all the praise i can get!
Great hometown bar. Friendly staff, friendly patrons, not too crowded, and GREAT BEER!!
Try the Guinness, seriously. Â This has been my watering hole/karaoke spot for about five years now. Â They have a good beer selection and their food is quite good for bar fare. Â I recommend the Mos Opus burger and the nachos. Â Thursday nights are karaoke; PJ is a riot and the regulars are a lot of fun. Â Prices are more than reasonable and Billy O himself is a really nice guy. Â Definitely one of my favorites!
Review Source:This bar has a lot of potential. Â A decent number of beers on draft, but the selection is really not that exciting. Â The bottle selection in the cooler is much better. Â Belgium, German, and micro beers represent.
I haven't had the food, so I can't really remark on that. Â I think what is holding this place back is the truck stop around the corner. Â I have nothing against truckers, but this is the only bar within walking distance for them and they tend to drink really crappy beer, get a bit drunk, and love to talk to everyone. Â Incessantly. Â I guess you can't blame them because they are on the road for long periods of time by themselves. Â I just don't want to explain my belgian beer to someone who wouldn't give up their bud light for anything.
I recently had a great experience at Billy O's English Tavern. Â Surprised to find I was the first to mark it... This place had been recommended by several people, specifically for the wings and great beer selection. Â I opted for the Chicken Pot Pie and my buddy had the Sheppard's pie, both winners. Â The pot pie was pippin hot, filled with chicken and veggies with a creamy sauce and covered by a blanket of pastry puff which you can get lost in. Â The Sheppard pie was very traditional and just like grandma used to make. Â After having a couple of gourmet beers the chef recommended the SSS or 'Triple S Wings.' Â They were sweet, spicy and smokey just as advertised. Â I'm usually a Buffalo guy but these are right on point. Â In particular I really enjoyed the size of the wings which was the perfect size. Â They don't mass produce them here as they seem to hand make them. Â
On a side note, I stopped by on a recent Sunday night and was surprised at the crowd. Â I asked around it sounds like that's a good night for them, huh.
