I usually come here for happy hour and as a last-minute-resort-that's-close-to-home-dinner-Âwith-friends. Came here yesterday for my gf's birthday dinner around 5pm in 90+ degree heat and found that some of their A/C units were down and where did they stick the birthday girl & party?! When I arrived- the front and bar areas of the restaurant were cool but as I walked further back-It got hotter and HOTTER.
That's where I found birthday girl. In A CORNER HIGH BACKED BOOTH Where there was no A/C! and they were still sitting people back there...C'mon Black Angus! Shame on you.
I was sweating. I was like Seriously right now?! IT's HOT! Â We need to move. We asked to be seated somewhere/ANYWHERE Cooler & the server was nice enough to put some tables together next to the fans. Not bad but that should have done in hindsight without patrons having to ask.
The food is decent enough put it between a Denny's and a regular steakhouse. This is not Vic Stewart's or Ruth's Chris and rightfully so since their pricing is a lot lower than the aforementioned. The service and food is 3 to 3 1/2 stars. The experience with no A/C=0 stars.
Still my go-to for happy hour but I'm not sure how I feel about this place now.
If you go to the place, don't order the Prime Rib or the ribeye because at least half of each steak was fat. The mgr came by and offered us a free dessert which was a disappointment since our dinner was $54.00. The waitress was slow and was pushy to want us to add drinks etc to our tab.
Sizzler has better quality and friendlier workers.
I was actually fairly impressed with this Black Angus. I'm not saying that it's the same experience you would get going to a $$$$ Steak House, but for $$, this is really, really good.
My Mother had lobster and filet mignon for our father's day meal and we were all surprised out how huge her lobster tail was.
I had filet mignon for the first time with blue cheese and mushrooms. I was concerned that the blue cheese would overpower the flavor but it's very light. Even people who don't like blue cheese would probably be ok with it. Both of our steaks were a delicious medium.
My Dad got the 16 oz rib-eye and he loved it. He ate half then and another half the next day. The flavor of their original steaks is delicious! I must admit I added a little salt to my own. Dad got his medium-well and he was happy with it.
My husband had the pesto salmon and that was probably the best thing I tried that day, believe it or not! The skin was so crispy and the flavor was perfect.
I was really surprised by the au gratin potatoes. I detest them normally, which is sad for me because I like cheese and potatoes and it should be the perfect combination. Dad's au gratin potatoes were very different. It was peppery and cheese but not in a saucey way and it had sort of a crumble on top. I loved them. He did, too. But this is certainly not a traditional au gratin.
He had me try a bite of his potato soup. You could taste the bacon flavor in the soup. Interesting!
My husband split my caesar salad with me. It was ok. My mother liked her garden salad but said it was nothing special. The portions were very large, though.
My husband also tried the seasonal apsaragus. I like my asparagus on the soft side, so the tips were perfect but the ends were a little too crunchy for me. Same for hubby. That's my only complaint. Good flavor.
The garlic mashed potatoes were whipped to perfection. Yumyumyum. We both got those.
My Mother tried the loaded baked potato. It was exactly what you'd expect. Still huge, though! Everything here is huge.
We also tried a few drinks since it was a special occasion (father's day). Dad had the raspberry lemon drop and just didn't care for it. The waitress talked him into it after saying the sweet blackberry tea was REALLY sweet, and it just didn't end up being my Dad's thing. I thought it was okay.
I had the Kahlua Colada. I think it would've tasted better without the pineapple juice. It was a little jarring.
My mother had the Square Cow. It tasted like an alcoholic fruit punch. The liquors were really well covered, though, so if you're not into the taste of alcohol, this would probably good.
I would just avoid the drinks here, though. Or maybe we had a bad sampling.
Went to Black Angus with my wife last night for a couple of reasons, 1) we had not been in a while, 2) we had a coupon. As soon as we said we had a coupon the service went from bad to worst.
The waitress had such an attitude after we ordered with the coupon. I had to ask for my drink again after I had ordered and it was never refilled even as she refilled others around us.
I'm sorry but if you give people a coupon to come in, you want them to have a good experience so that they will come back. Well it didn't work and it will be a LOOOONG time before we ever darken this door step again.
It had been many years since I last ate at Black Angus - and it will be many more until I go back. Unfortunately, we went there for Mother's Day with a 3:30p reservation. That part went well - no crowd, quick seating. Cool.
Then there was the SLOW waiter. Slow to take our order, slower to bring us drinks, even slower to bring the food. What was even worse, my son ordered a strawberry lemonade and when he asked for a third cup, the waiter said "by the way, the refills are not free on that" - as my son finished his second glassful and dinner was just being served. Thanks for saying something when we ordered the second one - and at almost $3 per glass, REALLY! For a lemonade?
As for the rest of the food, sorry, Black Angus, I've had significantly better quality meats and reasonable sized side dishes. I had the Prime Rib with a salad and broccoli. There were 4 - yes 4! - broccoli caps in some greasy sauce (butter?) with a little cheese. Give me a break. The prime rib was 30% waste and tougher than I've had at any other restaurant. Sorry, it didn't pass the muster.
My son had the salmon. He thought it was decent. His fries were good though. Ok, so the restaurant can please a 15 year old.
My daughter had the NY Strip with fries. She added garlic mashed potatoes which were decent, probably worthwhile to order again. Her steak was very VERY tough. I ended up eating half of it. The "medium rare" concept was missed by the chef obviously. Probably should have sent it back but since she at about half and claimed to be full, I didn't see the point - but once I ate it, I should have sent it back!
The wife had Prime Rib as well. Hers was also 25-30% waste but she didn't complain. She had to explain to the waiter what a Champagne Cocktail was - when she ordered it, he didn't know what it was and then tried to say, oh, its champagne with soda water. We had to tell him to go ask the bartender who sent over a small champagne glass with the bitters and sugar and a mini-bottle of Korbel. So, mr. bartender.... since 1/2 of the Korbel fit in the glass, how were we to "save" some of the bitters/sugar for the second half of the bottle? Duh, think you should have provided a larger glass so she could pour one large drink to fully mix the ingredients. Add to it that it was $9 for the single drink - unbelievable.
Thus, food quality was average to poor. Service was lacking. Drinks were slow - and over priced. I'm generous at two stars only because 1 star is reserved for incredible horrific places and at least this place has a decent interior!
This review is for the bar happy hour only. Went in to watch the Warriors playoff game and they had a build your own 1/2 lb burger that was great and cooked to perfection for $ 6.99. The bar area is spacious and full of HD TV's. A great place to watch sports and hang out with a lot of room between tables.
Review Source:Wagon Wheel Sampler Platter appetizers were decent, and probably enough food for 2 by itself. Entree steak was average. Steamed Broccoli was ok, Au Gratin Potatoes tasted like spoiled cream. Chocolate Chip Cowboy Cookie was simple and good.
Waiter was somewhat inattentive being the the bartender and server. You can't be both or you fail at both.
Place may be okay for after work grab a beer and watch the game place since there are plenty of seating, decent appetizers, but I would not waste money on entrees and sides.
We have never had a bad dinner here so I do not understand any low reviews. We went last night and our waitress was very kind and very attentive. We started with a great fresh salad and then we both had the Filet Mignon and it just melted in our mouth. I tried it with mushrooms and blue cheese (now my favorite). I wish I could go every day. We also enjoyed watching the Giants game in the lounge. Thanks to all the staff for a great dinner.
Review Source:I went to Black Angus with a date on Friday night. Â The place was busy as one would expect fro a Friday night. We were greeted and seated. Our waiter answered our questions about the menu, took our order and served us. The food was tasty and prepared to our likings. Service was excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to return.
Review Source:MANDO IS THE MAN. He will muddle the mint for any drink. huge!!!! that's for the bar.
now for the food.
go somewhere else,
i just can't understand why people go here and its SO PACKED, every time we have been, it's been just OK, nothing great, nothing bad, except the Prime Rib came out RAW, i literally had to send it back twice.
I've consistently had good service and good food at this location. Â My filet mignon is always excellent. Â The food in general is awesome. Â The atmosphere is cozy because the booths all have very high walls around them. Â Sometimes you have to wait if you haven't made a reservation. They always have great coupons you can find in your mailers as well. I haven't had much experience with the bar area so I can't really comment on that.
Review Source:We could barely understand our waiter, who was not too attentive. He took our order & brought our food, never asked if we wanted anything else, never asked if we wanted refills on our drinks.Never checked to see how we were doing,he removed a couple plates & brought our check after passing by us several times.
I got the 1 pound prime rib, which about a third was fat.The 4 onion rings(yes, 4 WHOLE onion rings) & little bit of potatoes left me hungry.
My girl was semi satisfied with her lobster tail.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over priced!
All the staff seemed confused, like there was way more going on than there was.It wasn't particularly busy. I think some good management might help to improve the service,
I am very dissatisfied with the portions of food I got, it should have been about half of what I paid.
If your rich & don't care about service or value, this place is for you.
My girlfriend and I love to come here every once in a while and take advantage of there dinner for two deal. We ordered the sampler for our appetizer. It has potato skins which are more like half a potato piled with pure deliciousness. Buffalo chicken strips, fried zucchini, shrimp cocktail and celery. Amazing start to our dinner. I ordered the prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes and coleslaw. I ordered the prime rib rare and that's exactly how it came out. It came with creamy horseradish and au jus. It was all pretty good but I personally prefer the salmon. The service was amazing tonight. Our waiter Adam did an excellent job. Taking our orders, then repeating the order back to us. You don't get that a lot from waiters anymore and it's a nice convenience. After he left we both talked about how good he was. Good food and good service, there isn't anything about this place not to like, just sometimes the food can be better then other times, but still not bad.
Review Source:I'll be honest- I don't really eat steak. My boyfriend is the red meat fan. We LOVE Tahoe Joe's (in Pleasant Hill), but wanted something different. Usually this place is packed, but we were seated quickly. We were seated in a huge booth with huge walls around it. very intimate. Our server was attentive, but not over baring, which we appreciated. The decor and the music was awful, but I just don't enjoy country music, country decor, or anything cowboy related, so that's a personal preference. Food was great. Our side salads were big! Loved that! I had king salmon and fried shrimp with garlic mash potatoes. It was cooked perfectly. I also ordered a few cocktails. I would recommend the sweet blackberry Texas tea. That shit was STRONG! My boyfriend got a steak combo with grilled onions and sauteed mushrooms. He liked his food a lot, but his long island iced tea wasn't very good. It 'tasted like soda, not liquor'. Over all we had a great experience. I will definitely go again.
Review Source:I don't think I have ever seen this place crowded, maybe it's just the times of day I went. Â When I'm in the mood for a hunk of meat I like to come here or if its prime rib Wednesday! Â The food has always been good and hot and just the way it was ordered. Â The artichoke and its dipping sauces are excellent. Â Next time I go in I might have to sit in the bar for happy hour and have dinner there, the happy hour specials all sounded delicious! Â Only had issue with service one time, although the waiter was very nice and attentive, he was wearing way to much cologne, it did smell nice, but when I'm trying to eat, it's just a bit much. Â Other then that always a good experience with good food!
Review Source:This review is based on our recent Happy Hour experience in the bar area of Black Angus - we did not have dinner in the restaurant.
Hubby and I enjoyed spending a Friday together when I recently had a day off from work. We decided to stop for Happy Hour at Black Angus and sat down in the Bulls Eye Bar. Most of the tables we full so we took two seats at the bar in front of the bartender, Ieva.
We ordered the appetizer sampler ($13.50 normally, and $5 off during happy hour), cheesy garlic bread ($3.50), and a couple of margaritas on the rocks. The drinks were really well made. Service was fast (sitting at the bar is usually a good way to get good service). Â
The cheesy garlic bread was really cheesy but not super greasy. It had a taste we couldn't recognize. Mayo perhaps? Or maybe just a garlic spread.... not sure but it was really good. the outside pieces were crispy and delicious and it was a really good size for sharing.
The appetizer sample came with a shrimp cocktail (which was really only three small shrimp with some cocktail sauce - the sauce was good though!). The potato skins were so crispy on the outside! How do they get the skin like that? Please message me if you know how! The buffalo chicken was really good - not too hot (I like hot but hubby doesn't) and not too saucy. The chicken was tender and juicy on the inside. Â The fried zucchini was good too. There was the most of this which wasn't a bad thing since it was good and had it's own dipping sauce - a blend of dill flavors.
Had a great experiene and look forward to coming back again soon!
($22.73 total)
If I could give this a minus star I would. Two Friends, my husband, and I showed up at 6pm on sunday night. Told we had to wait 15 mins for table, no problem. We went and got a drink at the bar. 30 mins later we were seated.... Our waitress didn't come to our table until 6:45, 15 mins AFTER we were seated, she took our order, our friends order steak (Medium Rare) lobster, shrimp and  Full rack of ribs with fully loaded baked potato, husband and i ordered steak (medium) and ribs.  Took  over 30 mins to get our food, My husband's steak came out med rare so he asked for a new one cooked right, our friends steak came out med almost med well.  so he asked for another one cooked right, and their potato had hair in it.
Sent potato back and got another one. After 30 mins of waiting and i was done with my dry meatless ribs, their steaks came. The manager stayed to see that they were cooked right, my husband cut into his and it was Purple AND cold! not even better then the last time. Needless to say he didn't eat it. Â Horrible service, horrible management, horrible food, I dont even know why they are still open?!
O and on the way home we had to stop because my friend and I were throwing up... and that continued thru the night.... Thanks for reminding me why i will NEVER return to this ran down place.
Use to be a great place to go but... The food is not that great anymore
I used to love their greens beans but now they do not have any taste
The steak was tough as was my lobster
The coupon was what brought us in from over the "hill
It did make the meal a good value
The service was "ok"
My shrimp was good
I use to really like when they brought the bake potato toppings to the table
I forgot to ask for the toppings on the side and was not ask my the waiter what I wanted on the potato
I thought it was a great service to be able to make reservations from yelp
Went there for their Thanksgiving Dinner menu on 11/22/2012. It was good value for the money @ +-$17 per person. The Steakhouse met all my expectations for the dinner, and Turkey & fixing's was as good as what I would have had at another place that was charging $ 45 per person.
This is a good place for families and kids.
Want a decent steak without putting a dent in your wallet? Here you go.
I visit this location a few times a year when I visit my family in the East Bay. It's never super crowded, so getting seated promptly shouldn't be an issue. Once seated, you're served with warm, toasty bread. It's hard to resist, but a key to finishing the rest of your food. The entrees usually come with your choice of two sides. My favorite combo is the soup steak and filet mignon with wild rice. I never have room for dessert, so I can't really address this area.
Look, this place won't impress your date...or your family. But your stomach and wallet will probably be happy.
Took a party of six here. Had reservations for 6:30pm. The waiter was nice and took our appetizer orders and they came in a timely manner. It then took another 30 minutes before he came around to take our dinner orders. We had to wait another 45 minutes to get our main course. The prime rib was decent. After we ate it took another 20 minutes before the waiter to come around to take our dessert orders then it took another 30 minutes before our dessert came. The cookie wasn't cooked and was raw dough. Dinner experience took almost 3 hours.
The place is dated and dirty. Service is horrible. I just hope I don't get food poisoning.
4 Stars I can sincerely say Frankie Liked it !
Monday Night my wife was having preggy cravings for a steak, So we could not decide Ruth Chris is Great yet we didn't feel like waiting to be seated or dressing up all Fancy. We opted for our personal favorite go to Steak House Black Angus we were seated right away in a nice comfy booth for my pregnant wife, Our drink order was taken and bread was delivered promptly I love there Butter... my wedge salad was very fresh and deliciosa..
We ordered The Steak and Prawn dinner, Mine was perfect medium just how I love it my wifes was just how she ordered it WELL done lol No steak should be cooked that much but shes preggers everything has to be cooked well. The steaks were up to par with Ruth Chris, I have had there's and know there just as good quality just better priced we enjoy the nice relaxing atmosphere at Black Angus we had a great dinning experience just wish I would have remembered our coupons..
We had a great date night wife was happy which means Im Happy !! Thanks for a great dinning experience Black Angus Crew..
Sunday night and in need of some red meat fix, Flemings or Black Angus. Hmm... An hour later, still comfy in shorts and flip flops, we opted for Black Angus. We weren't expecting much, afterall, this is only Black Angus. We were greeted by 3 ladies standing behind the hostess booth. They were polite but cold. Our waiter looks like Ron Livingston from Office Space, was friendly but distant. So why 4 stars?
Starter: The basil pesto mayo that came with grilled artichoke was delicious
Entree: Prime rib medium rare was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender
Sides: Baked potato soup is tasty and filling but a bit too much salt, sweet potato fries with basil pesto mayo is perfect match but stay away from au gratin
Dessert: Berry cowboy cookie came highly recommended by our waiter was alright. The fruits were fresh but the cookie was under baked.
We came in on an empty stomach and left happy and stuffed, yet we still felt like we can chow down another cut of that perfectly cooked prime rib because it was that good.
Came here for this first time in years.
We were greeted by someone opening the door for us.
It was very quiet, but we came early on a Saturday night (4:30pm). I like the high back booths. Although the decor was pretty old...it kind of reminded us of something you might find in an older Reno hotel restaurant.
The appetizer "sampler platter" was good, and filling.
The salad was mostly iceberg lettuce, but was nice and chilled.
Husband had a steak, which was ordered "medium well" and came out "well.... Burnt" on the outside, and well done on the inside.
I had the grilled chicken. First bite was okay, but by the second bite I realized just how over seasoned it was and slightly dry.
Desert we had the warm chocolate chip cookie with ice cream on top.
Cant really go wrong there, it was very good.
The coffee was "restaurant" coffee. Wasn't terrible, but wasn't "good" either.
I am giving them 3 Stars because the place seemed clean! HUGE for me.
The service was good. (Our server was great)
And we did get a lot of Okay food for only $50. (coupon on line)
If the only thing we ate were the entrees I would have given only one star.
I haven't been to a "Black Anus" in many years.... However, I would say a solid 3 stars sums it up.
My family wanted to go there this weekend. So, we made dinner reservations and I just sucked it up and went.
When we got there, we were told that there was going to be a wait of a few minutes while they got us a table. We all instantly went to the bar, and go an order of of chicken wings and drinks. The bartender made me an adios, which was pretty tasty! This was probably the best part of my visit.
After our table was set we got the artichokes... which were decent, but nothing to write home about.
Most of our table got the prime rib, however I got the pesto salmon. I was told the steaks were pretty decent... my pesto salmon was ok... but again, nothing to write home about. Guess that's what I get for ordering fish at a steakhouse.
I guess my last point would be the service. It really wasn't bad, but it didn't stand out either. I suppose that why this place averages out at a 3, its not that bad... just not that good either.
Go if you have a coupon... or if you have an ignorant family member that had to go like I did.
Free Birthday dinner coupons emailed to you when you sign up through their website. Â If memory serves correctly the coupon is good for up to $30 when another dinner of equal or greater value is purchased. Â Needless to say my family and I gravitate here throughout the year for all of our birthdays. Â They also have email specials they send during the year also with discounted dinners. Â
Steaks here are excellent. Â Large quality cuts cooked to perfection. Â The sides are numerous and it's always hard to choose but the green beans with bacon is my favorite. Â The loaded baked potatoes are exactly that!
Their bread has always been fresh and they are quick to bring out another one.  Salads are large and the vegetables served with the meals are fresh and crisp.
This place does a happy hour in the bar area which is pretty standard although I forget the hours. Â Cool place to hang out, watch a ballgame and relax. Â Service has always been very good save the occasional super busy friday nights during the dinner rush.
A little birdie told us that Black Angus had this amazing Artichoke Dip that we had to try and was the only reason to come eat here.
Black Angus is not at the top of my chain lists of places to try. Â I took this persons word for it though.
We went on a Sunday afternoon, our normal restaurant exploration time. Â It was quiet inside. Â There was a few people in the bar area and hardly anyone in the main restaurant.
Our seats were in this huge booth. Â Perfect for a little baby who's just deciding to crawl around. Â We could sit on either side of him and let him play around in the center.
I started with the Absolut Cosmo. Â Here's the thing, when you label something the "Absolut Cosmo" don't put Tequila in it. Â I took a sip and it was like battery acid hit my lips. Â Name it something that more closely indicates that it has tequila in it. Â It was one of the worst drinks I've ever had.
My husband had ordered the Raspberry Lemondrop. Â He switched drinks with me and his drink was way better than I had first thought. Â When the waiter came back I told him how awful that other tequila drink was. Â
For lunch I had the Filet Mignon Sandwich.  Sliced Filet Mignon served up with sautéed Onions and Red Bell Peppers, sharp Cheddar Cheese and Chipotle Mayo.
The meat was tender and easy to chew. Â I would have liked more Peppers but it was good. Â It was to large for me and I had to take it home later for dinner.
To keep the last cocktail I had simple, I went with a regular Cosmo. Â Good, finally.
Since my last visit to a Black Angus in Sacramento the menu has changed. Â Its better to say the least. Â The cocktail menu however, really sucked.
I only had two cocktails my husband had one or two more different ones. Â When our nice waiter asked for our opinion on their cocktail menu, I was honest and told him how terrible it was. Â I think he was a little surprised by my honesty. Â
My cocktail days are few and far between and when I waste my two cocktail minimum on crappy drinks I get a little huffy.
Oh and by the way. Â There was no damn Artichoke Dip anywhere. Â When we asked the waiter about it he didn't even know what we were talking about.
Mediocre drinks and no dip. Â Food was actually the up point of the visit. Shocking for my taste. Â I think the only reason to come back for us would be the giant booths for baby protection and if they change that cocktail menu.
Otherwise, Ill be making my own crappy cocktail concoctions at home myself.
Came here for dinner with the family. We arrived at about 8pm. We were a party of 10 and they seated us right away. It was pretty slow so we were lucky. Our server helped us and was attentive. A bunch of us kept him busy requesting things.
My sister accidentally spilled her drink and they tended to her real fast. They gave her another drink, wiped her down, cleaned our table, and offered another sampler dish in which her drink spilled on it.
I was impressed with the serving size. It was enormous!!
If you come here when it's slow the service is great!
It was a Monday at 6:15pm early in May. I wanted prime rib. I wanted prime rib rare (which means I am willing to eat it medium rare if necessary). I thought at 6:15 there should be rare left. I ordered it without thinking of asking if they could do it rare. Afterall, it is 6:15 on a Monday.
Out comes our salads and hard, stale bread.
After twice coming to our table and telling us our meals will be out, the prime ribs come. WTF! It is BROWN. I touch it, and it is hard (oh no, medium well??!!). I cut into it even though I don't need to (seeing that I cook meat to touch, the only way to do so and the easiest way once you learn what each doneness feels like). I have to flag down the waitress. She wants to take my whole plate back, after I insist on her taking this piece of ruined meat back. I ask if my potato will come back hot and fresh. She says no. So I grab the potato. Good thing I did. She takes forever to come back to tell me that they have no meat any rarer. If I wanted rare then I needed to come early. Wait, early? I was there at 6:15. They still had another 3 plus hours of dinner. I was early. So I ask for a ribeye, rare.
The manager comes back with the steak. I know what is going to happen here. I will be given a steak that is raw and cold. He puts down the steak. I touch it. He says real snidely, "Is it cooked the way you want it?" I tell him it will do. He then says "Cut into it and see." (There was nothing nice about the way he was saying it) I cut away, and I know it is not rare but raw. (Yes, there is a difference.) I say it is fine. I just want to get the hell out of this place, and pay my bill which I was pissed about since all I wanted was a nice meal and not one filled with hostility. He says to me "Well I guess you like it still mooing." I am about ready to scream but manage to say "No, I like it cooked how I ask for it to be cooked." He leaves. NO one comes back until I flag down someone for my check.
What a total waste of money. The only way I would come back is to meet someone for drinks here at happy hour. At least I won't feel ripped off and how can you mess up fried appetizers on the cheap? (Wait, after the experience I just had, it would be very easy for them to mess up on something this simple.)
Date/Time: Sunday - 7:15pm
Occasion: Dinner with family for early Mothers Day celebration
Party of: Six
Location: Â Dark ambiance. "Ranch-ey" sort of feel. Â Old wooden booths. Definitely not swoon worthy.
Ordered: Â Personal entree: petite filet mignon with baked potato and chopped wedge salad sides + smores pie dessert
Total incl gratuity: ~$180.00
I'm not a fan of Black Angus. Â I used to think their food was decent a few years back but my palate for steak has definitely changed. Â In my opinion, unless you are ordering the dinner for two (which includes one wagon wheel appetizer sampler, two steak entrees, and a dessert for $40 with a coupon), Â there are far too many great steakhouses out there in a very close price range to choose over Black Angus. Â It does not make sense to go eat mediocre steak when you can pay just a little more for a quality piece of meat. Â The sides were decent. Â Reminded me a bit like sides you might find at a diner.
The service on our most recent trip definitely deserves kudos though. Â Our server (forgot her name) was very was kind and worked very hard. Â She seemed a little new at the job so a little patience was required but I was more than happy with her service. Â Again, not a place that I sing praises about but this place does it's job in leaving your tummy full.
Very middle of the road, unexciting food. Â Huge portions. Â Reasonable prices for a steak/prime rib restaurant, especially because it's easy to get your hands on a coupon. Â Pretty much what I expected.
I don't always get to choose the restaurant when I'm out with the family. Â Not a problem. Â I've always wondered how BA survived in this location, but they seemed to be pretty full for dinner on a Saturday night. Â Guess lots of people enjoy big portions of mediocre food, very heavy on the red meat. Â My expectations were not high and the food was okay. Â Service friendly and adept. Â
This place is old school and kinda has an odor that goes along with that. Â Reminds me of the Hungry Hunter that closed down in Lafayette. Â Most of my family would probably rate it 3 stars. Â Guess that makes me the difficult one. Â ;) Â There's a very large bar, which I suppose could be a good thing.
As part of our carnivorous rampage, we had a momentary lapse in judgment and decided to wing it out to Black Angus since we had never been. Â As we pulled up to the restaurant we actually had to circle the parking lot to find a spot. Â We walked in and the place was completely packed. Â Being this busy, we thought it was a good sign of good food to come.
We started out with drinks. Â The strawberry daiquiri was actually pretty decent. Â The complimentary molasses honey bread was also not bad. Â We then went with the fire-grilled artichoke which actually was quite tasty. Â That however was the last of our night's goodness. Â Everything after that went downhill faster than the recent global world market crash.
My prime rib was absolutely flavorless. Â Despite my efforts to drown it in horseradish, I still could not escape the feeling that I was trying to chew down a Michelin all-season. Â And the sides were totally pathetic. Â My "bacon" flavored string beans were like chewing on candles...not even bacon-flavored candles...just flavorless wax.
We thought the chocolate fudge cake would be somewhat redeeming...wrong again. Â The cake was dry and the vanilla ice cream that it came with was icy and nasty.
The meal started out with promise but really ended in a flaming downward spiral. Â The only reason I feel obligated to give it 2 stars was because of the artichoke appetizer and the good service our waiter provided.
The worst part about our meal was that Black Angus is actually pretty pricey. Â For the same price, you can go to MUCH better spots. Â Izzy's for instance blows this place away.
This was our first & last visit to Black Angus. Â If you've never been...try to keep it that way.
I went here one night for my honey's father's birthday. Â First we were seated at a table that was too small for our group but as soon as someone noticed we were moved to another, larger table. Â The service was very good, especially since we were a large group. Â
They have different beer sizes and a nice selection which I like. Â Everyone seemed pleased with their meals (I ordered steak and added sauteed mushrooms) and I thought it was good, but pretty average. Â I do like that they have different sizes and meal combinations. Â You can definitely tailer your meal to your liking, which is good when you're paying that much for it.
I always redeem my Discover Card points for Black Angus gift cards, because if I'm going to eat at an expensive place like that, I want it to be free.
It's no upscale classy steakhouse, but it's pretty good. That four-course deal..get it! You get ANY appetizer (including the sampler!) and dessert along with the main entree. So if there's more than two people at your party, they can help you with your appetizer and dessert, cuz it's a lot of food. I never order my steak above medium, because it tends to get overcooked. And the garlic mashed potatoes are really yummy.
Why not more stars? Because the bread was stale. And, because there was pop music in a very dark, woody setting. !?
