I love this place! The bartenders are so friendly especially Michael P.! I have always met the nicest people when I'm at the blue bar! I would highly recommend this place!

I think the bartender must have a manhattan confused with a martini. Not a drop of vermouth. No excuse for a bar like this to serve a drink so bad. Could not get the bartender's attention and no one questioned why I didn't drink it.

Skip the bar and go to the restaurant instead where the service is terrific.

This is a great spot to grab a drink with a date. Super intimate, fire pit, outdoors, cue the music now...there's nothing pretentious about it and it's as casual as you want it to be.

Just don't be one of those girls coming down with a herd of heels looking for a good time. That's what the lobby is for.

I love coming here with my boyfriend for a night cap. You don't have to get too creative with the cocktails, a vodka soda does just fine and the wine list is decent.

Because of the intimate nature of the setting, the bartenders typically won't come over and bother you to ask if you want another drink...so take matters into your own hands and go up to them. I promise, they won't be busy.

Fantastic and beautiful view. My friend and I was chilling by the outside patio and watching the a wedding going on the upper deck.

Unfortunately, the service was horrible. We literally had to beg the server to come get us a drink. I typically do not like go give bad reviews, but there's just something wrong about the "Bling Burger" and the "Ghetto Dog" I'm not really getting at such a classy hotel. Are you trying to get the day party crowd? It just doesn't make any sense.

Worst Guest Service ever!  This place is a complete cluster.  My wife and I live locally and have been coming here for many years because of the quality food and great location.  Well, the other night we decide to try the bar area for the first time. We sit by the fireplace and a snooty young Eastern European gal asks us if we would like to order drinks.  I order a coffee and my wife orders water.  However, we tell her we will be ordering food, too.  She gives the snottiest look ever to us and marches away.  My wife mentions that she does not like the limited menu selection at the bar area and really wants to order from one of the restaurant menus but stay in the bar area by the fire.  We ask our cocktail hostess if we can order from the other menus and she says they do not allow that.  After our hostess marches off again, I tell my wife to ask the bartender dude since this bar area is his domain and he has the final word.  He explains to my wife that they prefer that we order from the bar menu but that he would make an exception for us (being long time loyal customers) and have a hostess gives us a menu and take our order.  Our original hostess comes back clueless and we explain to her what the bartender said (that we can order from the restaurant menu).  She then goes on to repeat her mantra about not being allowed to do that. I admit that I was short with her and I tell her that the bartender already said he would make an exception.  She then asks us if we want a menu from the restaurant.  We say "yes".  She brings us the menu but never returns, ever.  I have my coffee (which was very good) and my wife has her water and nobody ever comes back.  After about 15-20 minutes I speak with the front desk manager and explain all this to him.  He is decent and agrees that the bartender should have handled it differently and our hostess should have come back.  He takes my name and number down and tells me that the food and beverage manager will likely call me later.  He never offers me anything for our trouble and acts like we should have not asked for the restaurant menu after being told that they do not like to do that.  Basically, he blamed me in a roundabout and indirect way.  Of course, nobody ever called me later.  They blew me off, which I expected.  Well, I won't ever return again and 12 years of loyal patronage has just been flushed down the toilet.  Beware of this place, they do not value you as a customer and will just shine you on, which is too bad because I used to enjoy coming here.

    Cool modern styled spot.

Drinks were fine, not bad, not remarkable.  They did come in plastic cups though, which I understand why, with being by a pool and whatnot, but it definitely takes the classiness down a notch.

Not cheap, but within what I expected.

Very nice outdoor restaurant, but awful service and the food wasn't great.  The server did credit back an entree.

The location is spectacular.  The service?  Eh.  Almost non existent.

I have been to this bar many times as it is our "go to" place when we are in the area.  We somehow always manage to snag one of the great seating areas around the fire pit which is a plus.  But getting someone to wait on us seems to be the issue.

On my last visit- I went on a Saturday afternoon to grab a salad and a Bloody Mary.  i had to flag a server down for a menu and then after about 30 minutes, the bartender finally came over and took my order.

The food did come up fast and was quite good- but what is with the service?

Since I was staying at the hotel- we ended up back at this bar around dinner time hoping for some wine and cheese before heading out to our reservation.  Again- there did not appear to be anyone servicing the area.  We finally went to the indoor bar, got our drinks, ordered the cheese plate and went back out to the patio.

BTW- the cheese plate is wonderful- four kinds of cheese, jams and fruit that is almost a meal unto itself.  And reasonably priced.

This place could be a gold mine.  But on my last few visits, it's like they don't want people to sit and linger over a drink.  Very odd as it wasn't always like this.

When dining in Del Mar, the bar at L'Auberge is my favorite place to go for an after dinner drink with my boyfriend. The comfy lounge seating and backdrop of contemporary, coastal-themed decor really adds to the elegance of the place and provides the perfect setting for an intimate night cap. I would say L'Auberge draws a varied crowd of elite and glossy thirty something's combined with the sophisticated, more mature set. I like to dress up and the spirit of L'Auberge allows for that without me feeling conspicuous, so throw on that LBD without reticence. The log fire is often burning and accompanied by a live band that eventually serves to provide awesome people watching opportunities. I highly reccomend L'Auberge if you are seeking an upscale location that seamlessly combines the charm of the San Diego seaside with the modernity of chic decor and a sharp cocktail menu.

Louboutin heeled Del Mar ladies, a lit standing bar, leopard pillow chaises and lounge chairs, lovely roaring fireplaces. Just a short walk to the sea. A very romantic spot for happy hour. Amazing ambiance. Impeccable customer service and a decent snacking menu.

I attended a going away party this weekend in the bar area of the hotel.  I will start with the positives - great location, pretty views, service was good in that the people were friendly and it seemed that our drinks came out fast.

But the ugly. . .and this is what has clouded my experience and therefore my ratings. . . .first off i though their menu items were a little pricey, but they are a top hotel in del mar so it goes with the situation, just felt the need to mention it here.  The biggest issue was regarding parking.  If you have ever been to del mar before you know that parking is a bit of an issue.  So we decided to valet park because we were going to be there fore quite awhile.  We were told that without validation parking was $5 per hour which seems pretty reasonable.  What we didn't know was that only the restaurant validates and they are sticklers about this.  Ok i understand if we only ordered a drink or if they only validated part of the ticket if you just went to the bar, but we ordered food (which came from the restaurant) and drinks and we were a party of about 30 people. . .so we were spending a fair amount of money.  But they refused to validate.  Oh and ps even with validation parking was going to be $10.  The other thing that was annoying was that we brought balloons to mark our area (they were tasteful) well apparently balloons aren't allowed and although the waitress was very nice and never said anything to us, the general manager was not a happy person.

I personally would take my business elsewhere next time i am in San Diego.  Bars and hotel bars are a dime a dozen.

I thought this was a part of Waterfall Terrace at L'Auberge -- and maybe it is, but I think posting my review here would be more accurate.

I went for a casual happy hour on a Sunday evening. We didn't get to sit outside since I went on a cold day, though it looks like a beautiful spot to relax in the summer. We took a couch spot for their "social hour" -- very relaxing, with a great ambiance. I felt like I was being entertained in the home of some wealthy individual rather than hanging out at happy hour. They also have some good live music later on in the evening. There was a fantastic acoustic guitarist the night we went.

We got two appetizers -- the flatbread, and the beet salad. The flatbread came loaded with prosciutto, goat cheese, tomato and arugula. It was way huger and more flavorful than expected. The menu may list this as "flatbread," but be sure that you'll get much more than just bread. We also ordered the beet salad on a whim. Beets don't normally sound enticing to me. This salad, however, was quite extraordinary, with caramelized yogurt, blue cheese, and pistachio brittle. It was sweet and soft yet crunchy, with just the right touch of creamy richness added by the cheese and yogurt. I will never look at beets the same way again.

After those two apps, we left feeling like we'd just had a full meal. And it was delicious.

Come here to relax and have great conversation in the company of a more attractive, casually sophisticated crowd than your average San Diego establishment.

my bf and i popped in here for a view and a snack after the racetrack.

lots of sightings of louboutin heeled del mar blondes, rolls royces, and the latest mouth watering gt3.  humenah...humenah...

bleu bar area choices ranged from a lit standing bar, leopard pillowed couches, or poolside l.a. chic with heated lamps.

the coconut bikini martini was a tasty tropical drink topped with toasted coconut.  it also pretty much didn't go with much on the bar menu.

my napa cab was a much better choice to go with the cheese plate.
now the $21 tag was more than the skirt steak entree at the waterfall terrace so we expected some great cheese.

out of 4 different choices, we liked 2.  the one that was a weird oddball was the cheddar cubes which was fine if you were 6 years old.  the olive bread,  housemade marmalades and the bit of honeycomb was a nice touch.  a bit of truffle oil would be a great addition.

overall a really pretty setting for a drink if you aren't already eating on the waterfall terrace or kitchen 1540.  any are a definite date destination or one to impress.

I like to bring people visiting here.  It's fancy shmancy enough to impress them but beachy enough that it isn't TOO pretentious.

The staff is always super nice and attentive.  The drinks are fabulous (pricey, but fabulous) and they have Ballast Point Yellowtail on tap.

I've never been here for a date but it is pretty darn romantic at night!

Cameron, Mike, Lauren, Quinn, and Emily are awesome!  Definitely go during the day to enjoy the views.  The drinks are great, the atmosphere is unbeatable, and there's great people watching pretty much anytime.
