Blowfish Bar & Grill

GREAT MENU, GREAT SERVICE (thanks, Rebecca!) and GREAT FOOD!  

My good friend Joe & I went to Blowfish Bar & Grill tonight.  It was our 'first' time.  We had started out for another place but shifted gears and headed down to Blowfish instead.  We had just come from the gym.  This location is CLOSE for us and we were +++hungry.

Understand that I rarely take the time to review a restaurant.  When I do, it's because the experience was extraordinary in some way.

It was still daylight and Joe wanted to sit in a booth by a window.  We were advised that would be a bit of a wait because that combination wasn't available at the moment.  However, the hostess went back to check.  To me, great service begins with the hostess/greeting.  This was a promising beginning.  

Joe went back to scope out what WAS available with her and we were seated at a very nice booth really close to the window.  Blake, another employee, chatted me up about things aquatic.  I felt like I was visiting friends.

Next we received a truly welcoming welcome from our braided dark beauty of a server, Rebecca.  Extraordinary!  She was in training yet quite competent, friendly and could give service-with-a-smile lessons.  Truly amazing.

The menu has something for everyone and every budget.  We were in the mood for fish.  Joe ordered the fish and chips.  I ordered the fish tacos.  Our food was delivered fast, friendly and fresh from the kitchen!  SUPER YUMMY is the verdict from both of us.  His fish and chips were super crunchy, hot, and tasty.  (I barely got a taste.  He didn't want to give up a morsel.) My fish tacos were terrific prepared just as I like them - blackened.  I know we'll both be craving another visit real soon.  We'll probably order the same thing, too.  It was that good!

The crew works well together.  We never had to wave frantically to get someone's attention.  It is obvious that this restaurant is well managed.  One of the owners stopped by for our assessment.  Of course I raved.

The only annoyance was the soundscape.  It is really NOISY in there.  The live entertainment was not to blame, either.  

We were seated in a booth across from each other.  We found ourselves shouting to hear each other - instead of a normal conversation.  What's this all about?  It's the building.  The hard floors, wall surfaces, tables, etc. - nothing to absorb the sound waves.  

Despite the noise (a child screaming was like icing on the cake!) I really enjoyed myself, and so did he.  The vibe is EXTRAORDINARY and, in spite of this bit of a problem, I give Blowfish KUDOS and very nearly my highest praise!  

THANKS to the all the crew at BLOWFISH!   I trust you'll be there for a long while.  This restaurant deserves to last.

I really wish Yelp! offered a half star option, because this place is really only 21/2 stars not really 3 star. It was OK, wasn't bad but the menu needs some help.

We went to check the place out and grab a beer after shopping in the area. The bartender, Matt was a good bartender and we were greeted as soon as we walked in the door so absolutely no issues with service.

We checked out the menu and decided to try a couple of appetizers. We ordered theTuna and the fried green tomatoes. This is where the place fell down for me. The tuna was really small even for an appetizer, 6 tiny pieces. The wasabi was runny(?) and the tuna was room temp, so it came off like it was plated and sitting out until someone ordered it. Strange. The fried green tomatoes were  not seasoned at all. The breading fell apart the moment you tried to cut a piece to eat. They were sliced pretty thinly as well. I just couldn't taste any flavor in this dish at all, I even got a side of ranch to no avail as that was runny.

I wish this place luck as this location seems to be cursed and the menu/food needs some serious help.

Went on opening night and the food was mediocre at BEST but since we had a couple beers we didnt mind.... just left a few minutes ago and waited Ten minutes to get sat at the same table i STOOD by to drink my beer. ??? Thennnn we waited 25 minutes and no one even acknowledged us at ALL. We couldnt even figure out who our server was until he came out to greet the table that got sat two minutes before right by us. So we left and wont be back. Good luck with your business.
