I love the burgers here, have had almost all of them between the spouse and I. However, can only give 3 stars because the garlic fries (while the flavor is delicious) suck big time, they are really dark like they should be crispy, but just are soggy nastiness. Personally, I think the oil is just not hot enough. Great beer selection and the hot hot wings deliver.
Review Source:The burgers are so good! My favorite is the Fire Starter. You can also have the Blue Dog Burger. You can order the Blue Dog Wings as an appetizer. They are so tasty. If you want a really good dessert make sure you order the ice cream sandwich. This thing is huge. So you might want to share. But so mouthwatering good! I highly recommend this place.
Review Source:I come here every once in a while and usually enjoy this place. Good burgers, pleasant servers and and good beer.
I was a little miffed after coming here for lunch today though.
I ordered a Edel Weisse because they were out of the Pranqster. Edel Weisse is a nice German Hefeweizen. They brought it to me in an 8oz Belgian style Chimay glass and charged me $8 for it. WTF? That's $16 a pint for a 5-6% Hefeweizen.
Come on guys!
Came here for lunch on a sunday afternoon; only had been here for drinks at night a few times but the food looked real good.
I ordered the Good Karma burger (burger w root beer bbq sauce, pulled pork, carmelized onion and double cheddar w cole slaw) w a side of garlic fries. The fries are interesting in that they are twice cooked making them very crisp, I didn't finish them. The burger was off the hook good and the slaw on it was a great touch that brought in some crispy crunch and coolness on an otherwise juicy meaty burger. Medium rare means medium rare here.
The room is unique and w several seating options makes for accommodating parties from singles and deuces to 8 to 10; it''s a cool hang. They sling 90's hip hop from the Beasties to Run DMC to LL Cool J and have a few TVs w sports on at all times; they try to please everyone and come pretty close.
The outdoor patio is better at night (cooler) and since they are respectful of their neighbors (props for that) they are an early closer by 11 PM at the latest. Go early, go often. A+
Excellent food, service, atmosphere.
Came in to get some food and drinks with some college buds I had not seen in a while. Very nice cozy setup and atmosphere, outside area is nice. The place is hidden in a nook next to the freeway. They have a parking lot, but it was really full and hard to find parking. Friends parked in the neighborhood, I got lucky and got a spot.
We got seated right away when our group arrived. Blonde waitress told us about their beer selection and suggested the burgers which they said they grind the meat daily. F R E S H N E S S!
I got a beer sampler which the server built for me according to my beer preference. Excellent!
I got the Blue Dog burger and got a turkey patty instead of beef and got habanero and chipotle mayo on the side. Yummy burger and fries!
This place is a gem and all the hype is true. If all restaurants could come here for training, dining out would be an amazing experience.
Where everyone knows your name...GREAT, cozy, welcoming, delish. Â The Blue Dog is a great addition to this part of the valley. Â I've eaten here once before, in the daytime and enjoyed the food and terrific atmosphere so wanted to check out the night atmosphere. Â
Made me feel like I was back in Montreal... everyone makes you feel part of the vibe. Â Went there for a late Thursday night drink and it was just the perfect way to end the evening. Â Varied selection of beers...I'm not much of a beer drinker myself, although my companion is and owner, Paul, went out of his way to make me happy -- even bringing me a different beer to try out for fun. Â It's loud, it's noisy, and I'll be back there in a heartbeat.
Why? Â
Because in this huge city of LA, it is very unusual to find a place that really embraces the local community and where the community embraces it back. Â From all the pics of local dogs hanging from every nook and cranny, to the beer taps hanging down as part of the decor, to watching the owner make everyone feel they are the most welcome guest of the evening...it's just a winning combo.
I'm a dog lover, through and through, and the pics of  all the pups (from Paul's Great Dane Blue (yes, she's the Blue Dog), to every neighborhood pooch made me feel right at home.  In any event, works for me.  The one thing to be aware of is that it's a tiny place, and you'll wait a bit as the evening gets heated up, but the tables change up pretty quickly.  Parking can be a bit tight, but if you wait a few minutes, someone will be leaving and you should be able to nab a parking spot.
I'm not much of a drinker, so I can't really review their beer selection, but my friends are big fans.
The vibe is super fun. Â I haven't had a meal there that I didn't like. Â Their Cobb salad is legit. Â Their turkey sandwich is delicious. Â Their burgers are amazing. Â And their portions are huge.
The only turnoffs about this place is that is gets really loud, it gets really busy so the wait can be a while, and their parking situation is not enough for how popular this place is. Â If you can make it to this place for lunch, you'll be very happy.
Had a burger here and it was huge! The food was great but what truly had me and my girlfriend talking thru the night was the pictures of all the dogs on the walls. The lady who serves us seemed busy and didn't much care to see how we were doing so as far as service, it's poop. The beer selection is extensive but I wish I could say the same for the wines. Either way, ill still be back for their delicious burger and hope for a nicer waitress.
Review Source:Kinda a 4/4.5... but rolling it up for the decor.
Take a cool little dive bar (beer only), add a bunch of framed pictures of doggies covering the walls, and really good bar food = Blue Dog Beer Tavern. The burgers are really good and I LOVE the garlic fries.. yum. Â I really need to try the Chi Chi, but I've never had the courage. Â I do wish they still served pizza though...
Pretty sure it's dog friendly on the patio.
My first experience here, most definitely, most positutely warrants a second. I ordered the Black & Bleu burger, and it was eeeeexcellent. The bacon is thick and cooked black, but the flavor is incredible, the Bleu cheese is balanced just right, and the bun, while ever-so-slightly too large, is delicious.
I also got to sample the Chi Chi Burger, topped with bacon, hash browns, egg, and some kind of syrupy goodness-- tasty, but heavy, though depending on your mood it could definitely hit the spot.
Garlic fries are a bit soggy and LOT garlicky, but still tasty, and the beer selection is superb. The atmosphere is small, but nice, and the service is polite and friendly (and conspicuously good-looking. Like, all of them... Something in the beef, I guess...).
Great burger joint-- perfect for those nights when nothing sounds better than beef and beer.
(4 stars because the service could be slightly more attentive, and the chairs aren't the most comfortable I've ever sat in... But that's being picky.)
The place is really cute and tucked away off busy Ventura Blvd. Â The menu looked great and we couldn't wait to order. Â But we never got a chance to try the food because the "hostess" was so rude. Â She seated us at a bench seat and the man sitting next to me had his shoes off and legs crossed (sorry I don't want to sit next to a strange man and his dirty feet). Â We asked her if we could move to an empty table and she rudely told us "No I need to save room for other customers". Â We sat there for 15 minutes ordered beers and when the restaurant didn't seem to get any busier and the table remained empty, we left. Â Super rude staff....we'll never be back and neither will any of our friends.
Review Source:Unfortunately, I wasn't in a "beer at lunch" mood, so didn't get to try any of their drinks. They do have a surprisingly extensive list though. Came for lunch with a friend who comes regularly.
FOOD: Burgers and beer. You can't really go wrong. I went with a Summit Burger and we started with Bottlecaps. I would not recommend Bottlecaps unless you really like jalepenos. This may seem obvious to most but apparenly not to me. Anyway - the burger was pretty tasty. It's on the well done side (not my preference) and the bun got a bit mushy. But I'm not complaining. Oh and garlic fries - soooo garlicy, I loved them.
ENVIRONMENT: Dog pictures everywhere. It feels a bit kitsch. Inside is a bit dark - lots of exposed wood beams. Otherwise, they have outdoor seating as well. We sat against a wall - so we had a bench and chairs. I felt there was a strangely noticeable number of flies too (not that they bothered us, but they just flew around).
SERVICE: Expected. Not overly friendly and a tiny bit hurried. My friend said he really likes their service normally when he comes for lunch. I wasn't necessarily impressed though.
This place was great !!!! Me and me my family are BIG dog lovers and as soon as I walked in I was like this place is fresh:) There was dog photos everywhere. Cant wait to go back and take a pic of my dog so they can put it up. Now the food was great as well. I ordered a scorpion burger/ My son ordered a summit burger and my wife got the chi chi burger and we also got garlic fries. The waitresses were all really nice and attentive. Going back soon!!!
Review Source:Ignore all the great reviews for this place. After a glorious track record, the Internet has finally made a mistake. This place is awful! I came here today and dined with a party of 6 others for Father's Day. The waitress's complete ineptitude and lack of social skills made it an experience to remember. First of all, she never once asked if anyone at the table wanted a second drink (6 out of 7 of us ordered beers). Secondly, she forgot to ring my food in. Everyone's food came out to the table about 20 minutes after ordering...EXCEPT MINE! About five minutes after delivering the food, she came to the table and apologized to another person sitting at the table for forgetting to put my food in. About ten minutes after that, she walked by the table and apologized to another person at the table for forgetting my food. Eventually my burger came out. She never once checked on me or apologized for the delay. She dropped the check and apologized to yet someone else at the table for forgetting to put my burger in. When she dropped the check, we noticed she had comped my burger and hadn't added a gratuity. We figured ok, the waitress was a spaz but at least they didn't charge for my burger or add the auto grat. We handed her a card and when she brought back the charge slip for my boyfriend to sign, the gratuity had been added to the check, she had taken the original copy of the check out of the presenter, AND there was no pen in the check presenter!!
tldr: Go here with someone you hate who has anger management issues. They might flip a table over or something.
Oh boy. This place.
Burgers - eat them, you won't regret it. I would go for the Chi Chi (it has an egg in it! Come on!) or the Popper (tastes like an actual jalapeno popper BUT WITH MEAT).
Big's Spicy Mac - it's so amazing and flavorful that I can't begin to describe it properly. Just imagine: delicious cheese, delicious bacon, and a kick of jalapenos.
Garlic fries: these puppies are smothered in A LOT of garlic, which is great in my opinion, but BE WARNED.
Love the dog photos plastered all over; something to look at if you're bored of looking at your phone or dining partner. The dining area is somewhat small, but you won't feel crammed no matter how full it gets. Parking can be tricky if the small lot is full.
Oh yeah, the beer. I don't know, I don't like beer. But it looks like they have a lot of options!
So awesome, why did I give them only 4 stars?
Well, I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong.  Paul, the owner, gets a star all on his own!  What a cool guy and has an amazing place.  Don't miss the bottle caps, spicy, and I mean sometimes really spicy fried jalapeños that are great with their beer.
Lissa G and I are in! This place should not be missed!
Fan-Freaking-Tastic!!
We've been here a few times before, and it has never disappointed. However, this particular trip has been the best thus far.
Blue Dog was hosting a Game of Thrones night - They paired up with Ommegang Brewery for one night. They were giving away free glasses and a pour of their Iron Throne brew. Quite Delicious.
However, My rave is for the Chi-Chi Burger. As of late, I've been all about eggs on everything - pizza, burgers, etc. I'm a huge egg fan. The Chi Chi Burger was juicy, drippy and perfectly cooked. My handsome ordered the Squealer - which was very good too. I think Chi Chi will be my go to.
So Good.
Yes, the parking is a bit painful, but I love the atmosphere, makes it worth it.
This place is pretty cool! Â Not very big but cozy to say the least. Â It's a small establishment tucked away from the busy & noisy Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks and provided a fun atmosphere. Â I wonder why I haven't been here until now.
I came here to watch a game and to have a good chow-down. Â The menu items are fairly simple and represents mostly bar food but this place does it well. Â I had the Sam's Club (roast turkey club sandwich) and it was amazing good. Â Huge chunks of roast turkey, leafy lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and slivers of avocado. Â The bacon was on the fatty non-crisp side though but did provide smoky flavor to the sammy. Â The huge amount of fries that came with my sandwich was also pretty good yet a bit on the greasy side. Â But I didn't expect bar food to be spectacular in the first place; this place did pleasantly surprise me.
Though it had many television sets showing different sports at the same time, the only thing that was lacking was sound. Â Instead music was blaring out of the speakers but at least it was pretty decent mix. Â Our server (cute girl with pink hair) was very nice and made our experience a good one.
This place is small and fills up pretty fast. Â It can get pretty crowded and may take some mad skills to maneuver about. Â So if you're interested in coming here on game day (whichever sport it may be), I suggest coming early to secure a table. Â There's a cute outdoor patio for those who like to get away from the noise and just bake in the sun.
Prices are pretty reasonable especially given the location. Â Sam's Club was $12 but you get a huge amount of food. Â All in all, I had a very good experience here. Â The place itself was very cute and all their walls were adorn with pictures of pooches. Â I'm pretty sure cat people would like this place too!
I am a straight up Burger snob. Sure I'll eat In-N-Out once in a while when in desperation mode but I prefer to sink my grill into a freshly prepared slab of funktaculous burger.
Thanks to Yelp, I discovered this place while searching for a burger joint to curb my manly appetite. Â
It was my first visit and I ordered the cajun seasoned burger with thick center cut applewood smoked bacon. The burger was cooked just right. The bacon was swinetastic and the bun was all that...it was perfectly fluffy, a little buttery, succulent, and...well, I digress. Â
I enjoyed every bite. I almost bit off my finger. Does that ever happen to you when you eat too damn fast??
My only knock on my meal were the fries. My fries were a bit wilted and too greasy for me. Â I'll try the side salad next time or some other type of side.
My nephew had the BLT and he said that he enjoyed it. Â It looked good. Â It included aoli sauce and the tomatoes were sauteed in something nice. I may try the BLT myself some day. His girlfriend ordered the Chinese chicken salad. Who the heck orders a Chinese chicken salad at a burger joint? That's like ordering a burrito at an Italian restaurant. It looked good though!
The place was almost full but regardless, our waitress was on the ball. She was ballin' man!! Great service. She refilled our drinks without us having to track her down and she constantly checked on us. I didn't get her name but I did make sure to tip her well. Isn't it nice to eat out somewhere, enjoy the meal AND have great service?? KUDOS!!
I'm definitely going back. Maybe tomorrow!!! Maybe, I'll meat you there!
I need to caveat the rating on this place just because the environment is not conducive to relaxing and having a good meal. Â The is always crowded and noisy, which almost always takes the fun out of going out.
Beer Selection: Great
Food: Great bar food with good burgers. Friends and appetizers are what you would expect at a dive bar
Service: Service is slow just based on the amount of foot traffic. Â I have mixed feelings for the staff here, some are great while others not so much. The owner is a really nice guy and often makes small talk and helps with getting seated when it's busy.
Parking: Pretty bad
Also note, the bathroom floors are slippery and WILL test you after a few drinks.
The location of the place sucks..it's a weird intersection/road..BE CAREFUL not to get into an accident while trying to enter the small parking lot.
Once, you've conquered the parking mayhem...the inside of the place is really small so if you have a big party, you might be a little crampped. Â
The food here is the best!!! Â Their burgers are made with all kinds of goodness with whatever your stomach is craving.
A nice spot tucked away in sherman oaks, the inside is actually smaller than what it looks like online but the seating set up is done well. The burgers have been hit or miss, when they're on point its one of the best burgers you'll have but when they aren't it can be pretty bland but the appetizers are always good. The honey chipotle wings are the best thing on the menu.
They have a random selection of beer that changes frequently, no bud, miller, coors, or pretty much anything you'll find at ralphs.
You should go to Blue Dog if you are okay with a loud, fun atmosphere and amazing food! Another recommendation from my cousin and we were falling over ourselves because their burgers were so delicious! It was a bit tough to chat with each other since it was so loud in there (game on the tv, bar nearby, plus it is a smaller place). All in all we still dream of the Popper burger which had bread-fried & grilled jalapenos, velveeta cheese, cream cheese (and we added bacon). P.S. the garlic fries can be described as having fries on the side of your garlic haha so gooood for garlic lovers
We will most definitely be back!
I love the Blue Dog Burger, minus the bun. The Root Beer BBQ sauce is awesome.
The restaurant is small and the place gets pretty busy, but we generally get seated quickly.
The servers are nice and this place has a great atmosphere.
The only con, they don't have a dedicated fryer for their french fries. So if you have a wheat allergy then steer clear of the fries.
Came here for the burgers and really glad that I did. Â I ordered the Blue Dog; bacon, mushrooms, bar b q sauce and more. Â The bun seemed to be fresh out of the over and actually made there. Â The burger was juicy and soft. Â Wow i was really very impressed. Â The other burgers ordered seemed to get the same "hmmmmm good" response as i made. but hopefully they will write a review for themselves.
This is a small and just homely little pub/brewery. Â right on the beaten path of the valley that unfortunately gets hidden by whole foods.
The service and staff were incredibly friendly. Â On top of refills and clearing of plate...not to the point that we felt it was time to leave.
Have to say to start off with that I am not a beer drinking and cannot speak on the beer selection personally, though the other people I was with at the table seemed to really enjoy the vast selections and the choices (along with information) that they were being given.
Burger was amazing. Hands down. I like the vibe of the whole place, the rafters and all...kinda bummed we missed happy hour but I will check it out next time. The cider we wanted was out of stock, but we ended up getting a hard apple cider that was fantastic, kind of like apple champagne.
4 stars because the tables are very close together and our "table-mates" had a baby that was a little noisy. Also was a little hard to have girl talk with two business men clearly eavesdropping our convo.
Burger is $$$ but good!
BDBT is a nice place to catch some sports, drink a brew, and chow on a burger. However, the service can sometimes be spotty. On my last visit there was only one waitress so they were shortstaffed to say the least. She did her best but clearly could not keep up the the huge influx of people that entered during the lunch rush.
As for the food, I highly recommend the garlic fries. Everything outside of that is just slightly above average. Beers are continually rotating and they have a huge selection.
Parking can be tough here, don't park in Whole Foods parking lot unless you're fixin to be towed!
I actually love this place, but....
I was just there tonight, enjoying a fantastic burger. I left my glasses on mypaper  napkin, and, before I had time to think, the bussers had cleared the table, essentially throwing my glasses into the trash.
Although the staff seemed concerned, I would at least have appreciated having a comp drink or something. It was very deflating, and I didn't feel as though the staff did enough to either a)find the glasses or b)damage control an unpleasant situation by at least comping something.
Sadly to say, I won't be returning again after this experience.
I know this place has some great reviews & here I am giving them 3 stars.
It's a really good social atmosphere however, it is quite small so it is not good for large parties, our party was so large that we had some of our party towards the front of the pub, some where in the back & others were scattered sharing tables. I guess if a place is this crowded its a good sign.
I tried their Florist Apple which is quite good, some red wine, & for some grub I had the Chicken Pesto Melt. Â Perhaps I ordered the wrong dish here because I did read reviews raving about the food being good, my sandwich was not good at all. Â The chicken was not hot, nor warm upon arrival but instead it was more on the warm to cold side. Â It was tasteless the only thing saving it was the little pesto that they put on my sandwich. Â Let's just say this place left me craving The Carving Board (in Tarzana).
Prices are reasonable, staff is nice, wouldn't mind going back but perhaps at a less busy time & possibly try something someone else tried & liked
