This place is now closed. And agreed that the elderly owner was pompous. Hope something good comes into this space.

I like to pride myself on the accuracy of my reviews but in the interest of full disclosure, this review of the Blue Heron wine shop may be impacted by the presence of earlier-consumed ethanol alcohol in the form of gin and sake.  Anyhow, we were hanging out at Sakura Garden when our lovely Linda mentioned a wine-tasting over at the Blue Heron.  Undaunted by copious amounts of cold weather, rock shrimp, sushi and cocktails we popped across the lot quickly to this cozy wine shop!

The Blue Heron is a great looking wine store with a substantial display of bottles.  The name comes from a local migratory bird and the place is really geared for a great experience.  The free wine tasting covered a nice shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, bordeaux and port, going from dry to sweet.  The employee pouring the wines was very helpful and a knowledgeable professional.  I ended up going home with a great bottle of 2006 Justin Isosceles wine that I'll be saving for a special occasion.  Thank you Blue Heron for a great wine-tasting and beautiful store!

Fantastic place to start tasting wine. Thursday, Friday, Sat night tastings and a huge selection. The staff is extremely friendly.

Comfortable, friendly, upscale wine shop in Glastonbury. This place has a great selection, nice display and friendly staff. Thay can always recommend a nice wine and offer little note cards to take with you to tell you about the wine, which is always nice when you are interested in learning more about what you are drinking.

They also offer some very interesting wine classes here. I participated in one this past spring, it was informative and relaxed although the space was a little tight!

I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to find a nice bottle of wine (any price range) without taking a shot in the dark. The staff will help you find what you are looking for.

Blue Heron is a nice place to spend time in.  A wonderful selection of wines and the groupings are fun to peruse.  Their selections tend to be priced more at the high end, but their selection at that range is excellent!  They have wonderful Ribeuro del Duero wines in a fairly good price range.  The schedule of wine tastings is interesting and varied.  AND, although I have not yet attended, they have hosted some "dual" tastings in conjunction with the Pasta Store next door, so Pasta and Wine on an Saturday afternoon...what more could you ask for?!
