I waited a day before posting this review - I was too frustrated last night to write it.
Let me start off by saying that ordinarily, I would rate Blue River as 5 stars. I've been there dozens of times for happy hour, and have never had a bad experience.
Yesterday afternoon (6/21) I took my parents there for happy hour. No one was at the host stand, so we sat ourselves outside. No big deal - it's happy hour, that's what you do. And then we waited, and waited, and waited. No one showed up to wait on us or hand us a menu, no one even acknowledged our presence. Two servers came outside (tall male and a brunette female) while we were waiting, looked at our table, and kept moving. We could see just inside the restaurant from where we were sitting outside, and clearly the previously mentioned brunette, and another brunette waitress were too busy buying/selling jewelry at another table to bother with us.
If it had been busy, waiting 10-15 minutes would have been annoying, but understandable. There were only 5 tables of people (including us) in the whole place, and as I mentioned before - at least three servers "working" at that time.
So, we left. And no one acknowledged us on the way out either. Someone else got our business last night - and I'll be thinking twice about going back there after work with my colleagues again.
We stopped here early for a lite meal on our last night in Breck. We made it for happy hour and we were only sorry that we didn't visit earlier in the week. The waitress was knowledgeable and efficient.  We each had martinis from the menu.  I had the dirty jalapeño and it had just enough kick.  My husband had the blanc Cosmo and it found it excellent as well. We shared 2 apps and that was quite enough for our dinner. The bruschetta was piled high and the goat cheese was just the right touch. We also had the 3 sliders, one each prawn, beef brisket and pork.
We should have come here earlier in our stay so we could have tasted more. We had martinis so no wine this evening, but the wine list looked very nice.
If we return to Breckenridge we will visit Blue River Bistro!
Went here yesterday with family and friends. Â They use local and thoughtful ingredients. Â Sat on the patio and enjoyed apps a cocktails. Â Storm rolled in, so we went inside for our entrees and enjoyed the music. Â We all enjoyed our food immensely. Â Great service. Â Made a good day great!
Review Source:This place was so good we ate here two days in a row and ordered the same exact thing.
The spinach salad w strawberry vinegarette was perfect. We added tofu and feta instead of goat cheese. It's a huge portion and filled with fruit and candied walnuts, I know I'll crave one again soon.
Our veggie sandwich was simple but yummy. Grain bread, provolone cheese and fresh veggies. Our cucumber and tomatoes kept slipping out though because they were cut so thick. They should add more veggies if they want to make the sandwich fuller, but the thick cut makes it really hard to eat.
Fries were crispy and the ranch was homemade and thick.
It's a good spot for healthy, simple and flavorful food. So worth a stop.
Food's alright, but the management is terrible! We are locals would frequent the restaurant when we had guests in town. A few weeks ago we went in for lunch after getting off the slopes. The place was not crowded at all yet after our water was poured, we were ignored for at least 10 minutes. As we got up to leave, the manager(who had walked by us at least 5 times) said that our waiter would be right over. We calmly said that it had been too long and that we were going elsewhere. At this point , the manager decided to argue with us about exactly how long it had been. This in front of staff and other patrons. We find ourselves to be very patient people, and understand that sometimes there is miscommunication between waitstaff, and this is something we could have ignored. However, when management to decides to be rude it is unforgivable. Â We will not be going back!
Review Source:Blue River Bistro brings to the town of Breckenridge a slightly more upscale dining feel coupled with decent prices and a bustling aprés/evening bar scene.
My friend and I split the tasty artichoke dip appetizer, served with pita triangles (pic: <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/blue-river-bistro-breckenridge?select=_BL0-ktpU7VbjOfecANYkg#sMOP16JVnPfnRd8xgMn0ZA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>).  For entrees, he opted for a chicken parm (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/blue-river-bistro-breckenridge?select=_BL0-ktpU7VbjOfecANYkg#9wGNhIf9_yEJfGXRLQeEtw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) and I tried out the lamb (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/blue-river-bistro-breckenridge?select=_BL0-ktpU7VbjOfecANYkg#B3hG0r1IJC1ZjKr8K9mG4A">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>).  His portion was large enough to warrant some leftovers to take home, but with only three chops, I had no such luck.  Both were really tasty though, and I especially enjoyed my accompanying risotto.  My buddy's chicken parm was doused with cheese, which arrived to our table perfectly melted.  Our server Kelly was terrific and had no problem juggling us with all the other tables in her busy section.
Bonus points for letting me call ahead and get our party of two in the 30-minute waiting queue - normally they don't allow this, but I was staying at my friend's place located literally right next door, and we were finishing getting ready. Â This would be a five-star place in my book if the portions (well, my portion) were just a tad larger.
Nice ambiance, great jazz musician playing in the front.
My lamb was rare when I ordered it Medium. Charred Asparagus was charred.... not much flavor and very stringy.
Drinks were good and strong.
An OK place to come after a long day on the slopes, if you're looking for upscale food in Breckenridge.
Nice vibe and ambiance with great food. The place is a little small and it seems that there is always a wait, but the wait time wasn't too long. The appetizer bread was delicious and we ordered some chicken pasta that was awesome. Â It was a huge portion and I believe that my girlfriend and I shared one entree and it was enough food for both of us.
The location is convenient because ti is right near the gondola and bus stop. Definitely the more snooty crowd eats here, but I didn't get the feeling that it was overly snobby.
One of the best restaurants in Breckenridge and not too expensive compared to the other eateries downtown.
We hemmed and hawed about where to eat our "splurge" dinner on a recent trip to Breck. We asked around. Lots of great recommendations from the locals for Bistro so off we went.
DOUCHE BAG DISCLAIMER 1: If you are visiting Breck on a weekend, expect a wait anywhere you go. Don't be an ass about it. We were there President's Day weekend. We fully expected a wait.
DOUCHE BAG DISCLAIMER 2: If you walk in at 7p and want a table for 9, don't huff off when they tell you it will be a two hour wait. You walked in. With 9 Â people. And expected WHAT exactly?
APPETIZERS
We started with the escargot. Hubby and friends LOVE it. Hubby had the version with the blue cheese and really liked it. We would recommend that version but the regular was very good as well. A decent size snail to boot! I had the tomato basil soup and it was pretty good. It wasnt the best soup I have ever eaten but it was good.
MAIN COURSES
Red Trout - Friend loved it. You better like almonds because that coating is flavorful. She ate every bite and raved about it for the next two days.
Venison Special -Hubby had this one. I kept sneaking bites because it really was wonderful (and I typically dont love deer or game-y meat). This was tender and really tasty. If they have it, get it.
Pasta: Basic pasta with proscuitto and penne and spinach. I liked it. I would recommend the meat dishes before the pasta but I did like it. I just think there are dishes that are done better.
Service was great. Price was great. I would definitely return next time we're in Breck.
The food was pretty good, but the service was terrible so we won't be back. Â We arrived in ski attire with our kids, and the host acted like we were beneath him. Â The waitress was also rude and standoffish. Â We had to flag her down for more water and cocktails. Â I'm not sure what all of the attitude is about.
Review Source:Lets start off by saying we had been here a few years ago and liked it alot...not as much this time. I had the lamb which was cold to begin with, the risotto was not cooked well and the cold mushroom side, well i dont know what else to say about it. My husband and 2 others at the table had cioppino (fish soup). Flavor was good but noodles were overcooked as were the crablegs. The escargot didnt have much flavor and were also chewy and overcooked. Beet salad and acorn squash dish were enjoyed. The hot tea had a nice presentation (celestial seasoning teas)but the water was luke warm. Service was average.
Review Source:We went here because everyone in town recommended it. Â I don't really know why. The decor is from the 80's...$20 for pasta and you can't update the place? The place was SO loud, it was annoying. We had to yell to hear each other. Â And then the food....no one should pay $20 for pasta. Well we did, and I don't know why. Â The salmon salad was ok, I really can't complain.
I don't get the fuss or understand why the place was packed. Â Maybe people like being ripped off in an 80's atmosphere.
I ordered a $15 chicken caesar salad to go as I work just down the street. Â When I opened it, I was not impressed. Â The lettuce was wilted and rotted. Â The Moose Jaw's Caesar salad is 550 times better than this and about 90% less expensive. Â Disappointing, Blue River Bistro - step it up.
Review Source:This place is amazing! Bistro (chef prepared) food at a reasonable price ($20 - $30 per plate ... with appetizer, salads, wine ... $100) ... we had the shrimp appetizer (best dipping sauce I've ever had) New York and Tenderloin ... ceasar salad ... everything was perfection! Our waiter, Jason, was very good to us despite a table of 11 seated shortly after us. Eat here ... you won't be disappointed!
Review Source:Loved it. Â We arrived a little late after a long drive in the snow. Â We ordered Escargot for and appitizer. Â It was delicious. I ordered the Shellfish Cioppino. Â It came with a king crab leg laying in the bowl. Of course I ate that first. Â The whole dish was delicious. Â My husband ordered the Fruitti de Mare (another seafood dish). Â We shared both and loved every bite. Â We wound up leaving the pastas just so we could pick out the seafood. Â The waistaff were excellant and the manager came by a few times to make sure we were happy.
Review Source:Fantastic cuisine with more deliciously incredible gluten free options than I have ever seen before! Â There were 6 of us and we all ordered something different including 2 SPECTACULAR gluten free dinners. Â Every dinner was artfully presented and exceptionally delicious including the gluten free meals and appetizers.. Â This restaurant will be hard to compete with in my book! Â
If you are gluten free and tired of grilled chicken with out the sauce this is the place to frequent. Â Unbelievable selection with gourmet sauces to tantalize your taste buds! Â You will once again feel as though you are a part of the 'real' dining world once again.
Small dining room and very busy on a Saturday night. Food was pretty good (4-5 stars) but the service was almost glacially slow (which I'm chalking up to the date night crowd.) Our pleasant server was a real delight. The cramped dining room and the hostess's horrible attitude are what knocks this place down to three stars. Bottom line: decent chow, but I wouldn't wait in line for it.
Review Source:Blue river bistro is a nice restaurant in breckenridge. It has a good happy hour and late night special for martinis and apps,
Blue river is my favorite spot for Lunch in Breck. Unfortunately in Breck a lot of the higher end restaurants are not open for lunch, so Blue River stands out.
The penne roberto pasta dish is a nice blend of flavors. I also really enjoy the blue river burger. Everyday they usually have an interesting wrap on special and its typically good. I also have enjoyed dinner here but for me this is my go to spot for a nicer sit down lunch in Breckenridge.
Nice enough place. Â Interesting decor, good wine list, live jazz Friday and Saturday nights.
Unfortunately, that is outweighed by the slow, borderline rude, service. Â I arrived early as the first person on a reservation of 4-6 people. I was asked how many would actually be coming. When i said that I didn't know and wasn't in charge of the group, the host immediately turned frosty.
The food was no grat prize either. I ordered the Chicken Parmesean. Â When I finished my bowl was half filled with water from the boiling of the pasta, as if it had never been drained before being plated.
Glad I wasn't paying. My boss took care of that.
1 appetizer, 4 entrees, 2 beers, & 1 mixed drink = $140
July 2012
Context: we were a large party of adults on a Sunday night
Atmosphere: north end of breckenridge, you walk into the dining area which hold about 12 tables or so and in the back is a large bar area with more tables. Restaurant is dark and mid-scale in decor. Dress was casual
Bar: we started in the bar for happy hour cocktails, when cocktails are half price and so is a selection of apps. Â They have a large cocktail menu with traditional and new dangled options, some featuring local Colorado distiller spirits. Several cocktails featured their own infusions and they also seemed heavy on the spicy variety. Â Bartender was friendly but over worked so service at the bar was slow. He also did not measure so I would say the cocktails were not precision mixed but the four we had were all good. We tried one with a habenero in house mix that was quite spicy but also sweet and another with Colorado distiller bourbon which was quite tasty too. We did not try the apps, but the menu featured hummus, fried Brie cheese, sliders, which looked good and substantial sized.
Service: our server seemed to be irritated with us from the moment we arrived in the dining area. Our party came in two parts, with one part maybe ten minutes late, so maybe that got him irritated, in any case service was down hill from there. I don't think the waiter came back once to ask how things were, once the food was served. I had to almost bribe the water guy to please ask the waiter to come back so we could get more drinks. The water guy said he was only allowed to clear dishes and bring water and did not even offer to bring our server over. Another time, we had to go to the hostess to ask if we could order more. Â Not sure what the deal was with that. He was also not friendly or cheerful. We spent almost five hundred dollars and he got an automatic twenty percent off of that so I don't think he was worried we would stiff him. That twenty percent was more than we felt he had earned but we didn't complain about it.
Food: we had a great variety of main dishes. We had both the rib eye and the tenderloin steaks which were good and cooked as asked. They were served with wonderful green beans but only mediocre potatoes. Â I had the seafood stew which was very flavorful but was made with canned tomatoes . It included overlooked scallops, clams, mussels, chunks of fish and shrimp. Â A couple of people ordered the vegetarian quinoa with butternut squash ( not the season for squash so maybe not the best order) which both declared almost flavorless. The special was Atlantic salmon, farmed, and it was declared good. Â We also ordered more cocktails and wine. The wine list was fairly diverse and reasonably priced.
Music: they had live music throughout the night by a guy that never took a break in the three hours we were there. He was an enjoyable addition to the meal, playing light country, rock and pop tunes at a reasonable volume so you could also talk.
In fairness to the bar, I'd rate the bartender and service at the bar four stars
Good standard place to eat in Breckenridge. Â The menu doesn't change very often.
The brunch menu is good.
The lunch menu is better - the flank steak gyro is a pretty standard option. Â I believe they still do the $10 lunch menu if you sit at the bar. Â Service is generally good and staff is friendly.
No real complaints but nothing to write home about either.
The dinner menu is good, especially if you have guests in town and they are treating, and you don't want them to have to spend $30 a plate on you. Â Good pasta dishes and excellent drinks. Â This place is well known for their martinis and good bartenders, but they come in second or third in my book for martinis in Breckenridge.
Solid three star place that you can't go wrong with.
Nice vibe, ample outdoor space, and super friendly staff. Â Brunch menu was a nice mix of breakfast food, creative salads and sandwiches. Â Selections sounded both interesting and somewhat creative. Â Too bad mine didn't hit the spot for me. Dining companions enjoyed their meals more than I so think 2 - 3 1/2 overall dining experience.
In the summer, there is nothing like a caprese salad. Â It's just perfection on a plate. Â When I saw it on the menu, it was a must have. Â One taste, and I was a sad puppy. Â The balsamic reduction had turned into a sugary sweet syrup (as it should). Â But there was absolutely no need to add this level of sweetness to this preparation. Â If you don't have in season ripe tomatoes than don't offer this salad and for goodness sake if you do, use ingredients to enhance the natural flavors not disguise them.
The chicken provolone sandwich was just OK. Â The pesto soaked the bun so it kind of disintegrated. Â The "mushrooms and sauteed spinach" really didn't have an acting role in this play as you couldn't see them much less taste them. Â Boo hoo.
My other dining companions were pretty pleased with the mac & cheese offering and the jumbo tiger shrimp with jalapeno dipping sauce. Â I think I would give this place another try, but I don't think I'll be back to Breckenridge very soon.
I'm going to focus on the most important part of my brunch experience here on Sunday - the $4 bloody marys! In a mountain town! In a big ol' pint glass! They were really, really, really good: full of horseradish and other spices, skewered with two big olives and a lime wedge and with an amazing spicy red salted rim. I would have loved to enjoy more than one and hope to in the very near future. A few other things I loved:
- Little (for outside) to no (inside) wait on a Sunday, which is rare for almost any place serving breakfast in any mountain town. Score!
- Beautiful long copper-topped bar with very comfy padded loungey bar stools. Wanted to camp out for hours in them.
- A patio on the side of the restaurant and some seating out front on the street too. Some trees and a flower garden made our streetside table more charming.
- The food! I had a goat cheese and spinach omelet with buttery Hollandaise, toast (wheat, Texas toast or english muffin) and hashbrowns for $10, and I couldn't even finish half because it was such a large portion. Not only was the omelet creamy and delicious, but the hashbrowns were much more than an afterthought with red potatoes, red peppers, red onions and herbs. Flavorful and cooked perfectly. My husband had the steak and eggs for $14 and he devoured his plate. These dishes were only about a buck or two more than I'd pay in Denver, and with the cheap bloody marys I'd say we pretty much broke even. Who knew, for a cute little bistro on Main Street in Breck?
- I've heard raves about their happy hour with 2-for-1 martinis, $3 beers and half off appetizers. Looking forward to trying that. I think it's even twice a day!
- Friendly and pretty quick service. From the hostess to the bartender to our waitress, all were wonderful.
We stopped here for late happy hour (after 9pm) on Friday. Â Great HH deals- 2 for 1 apps, 2 for 1 martinis and $3 drafts. Â We got the Wisconsin cheese plate and an order of sliders along with some drinks. Â Â
And let me talk about the cheese plate. Â Buttermilk blue, fontina, aged cheddar and fig spread with an assortment of crackers (they looked like the Toasted brand I get at King Soopers but they're actually pretty good). Â Man, I could have ordered a few more plates of that, it was so delicious. Â Pairing the blue cheese and fig spread made it so sweet and tangy. Â (Licking my lips just reminiscing about it). Â
Kobe beef sliders were pretty good- the caramelized onions on them created a sweet flavor. Â The shrimp slider was also excellent. Â
Service was meh. Â Hostess' seemed nice enough but our waiter definitely wasn't overly friendly by any means. Â Was kind of short with us and acted like we were below him. Â I was a little apprehensive walking in here, as we had been rained out camping and had to stay in Breckenridge- therefore we were a little disheveled and not prepared to come to what appeared to be an upscale restaurant. Â It was actually fairly casual once inside however. Â
I'd come here again for happy hour...the prices on the regular menu looked a tad out of my price range :)
What a gem of a place amidst touristy restaurants in Breck! Â Group of 8 of us went here Sunday night for dinner. Â Found some great reviews and from the get-go we were very pleased - and this included a toddler, two teenagers, and five adults. Â The service was outstanding. Â Our server was knowledgeable, attentive, and met the needs of everyone at the table (and we were a challenge!). Â
Food was outstanding as well. Â I ordered the salmon with mushroom risotto. Â Wow. Â excellent flavor and some of the best risotto I've experienced. Â And, on Sunday nights, entrees are 2 for 1! Â (bonus!). Â
Luckily, we didn't have to wait for a table because we called ahead. Â But, this place would have been worth the wait regardless.
We stopped in for a late lunch/early Dinner. Lunch ends at 4:00, but they are happy to offer those options right up to the last second. Â Happy Hour 3-6, with 2 for 1 cocktails and 1/2 price appetizers. Dinner offered 2 for 1 Entre's. Â Can't wait to come back and try 1 or 2 of the many interesting Martinis, like the Elderflower Pear or Snickers...Yum! Upscale Bistro fare in an elegant relaxed environment.
We looked at both menus and  I decided to try the Penne Roberto- Flank Steak, asparagus, tomatoes, green onions, tossed in a Chipotle cilantro pesto. Pasta's perfectly aldente.
My dining companions had the Cheese Steak sandwich, and the Bistro Burger. They both seemed satisfied.
Pleasant, helpful staff, lots of culinary opportunities for every palate.
Wow! I'm shocked this place doesn't have more reviews!
I came here last week for the first time and was absolutely delighted with the helpful service (I'm gluten-free) and pheNOMenal food. I settled on gluten free pasta with pesto-cream sauce and grilled salmon. Oh my-- SO good. Also shared the Strawberry Spinach salad which was perfectly prepared and insanely delicious.
Great location, really cool artwork, wonderful service. Definitely GO!
I was super happy with this place. There aren't reasonably priced good restaurants in Breck that are open for lunch on Sunday
They weren't asses about me being a party of one, and asked if the bar was ok, and they let me look at it before saying OK.
Nice selection of beer- and the bar tender correctly guessed what beer I would get without me giving her a hint  (nice talent).
It was the Breakfest Stout btw.
I ate the mac and cheese for lunch. It was huge- about 8 inches long with a crunchy top and a mix of yummy cheeses inside. It was almost too big to eat in one sitting. My water glass was kept filled and they let me read at the bar like I wiated. the bar tender was helped everyone get on teh free wireless, which was cool.
The crowd was really friendly and I played trivia with the couple next to me on their phone.
Long wait for average food. I had the calimari with marinara which was fairly spicy. Then the cioppino. It was with an angel hair pasta instead of rice and more like soup instead of a stew. They didn't skimp on the seafood and even topped it off with a king crab leg.
The wine list is ok but heavily marked up, $51 for a bottle of Wild Horse? Really?
My beloved Seminoles had just betrayed me and I needed to get away from all sports related things. Left the kids with my parents and headed out to Blue River with the wife to clear my head and fill my belly.
Simply defined it's upscale yet casual.
Started with escargot; finished with a steak (kinda chewy but good flavor).
They also feature a little live jazz, which I'm always cool with.
It's a little pricey and I don't think the food necessarily warrants it. It was the end of the night and our waitress was friendly albeit a tad bit restless to get out of there I think.
Needless to say by the time I left I was in a better mood, even if my wallet was a little lighter
After an afternoon of touring and hiking the Colorado mountains, our group descended upon Breckenridge intent on finding some good eats and beverages. We found Blue River, which boasted a 3 - 6pm happy hour that we could take advantage of.
I found much about the place hit or miss. We did not get full entrees, instead ordering 2-for-1 appetizers and various types of personal salads to accompany our martinis and beer. The salads were great (hit) but most of the appetizers were at best just okay (miss). Our waitress was very friendly (hit), but then oddly circled the pre-happy hour total on the bill and wrote "ORIGINAL" in bold lettering intent on having us tip on the ridiculous price that would have applied had we come there at a different time (miss). I found that extremely irritating considering we would have never ordered that much food and drink under normal circumstances. Perhaps that's customary, but I have never run into that before, nor had any of my friends. I found it rude.
+1 star for the great live music that started around 5pm.
It takes a lot for me to log on to Yelp and post reviews. That said, when you're one of the only restaurants open during "mud season" in a resort town, don't get cocky and treat people like shit.
I think it was simply inexperience on the part of the hostess, but it came off as cockiness and really turned us off. We didn't have a reservation and they were busy, so we gladly sat at the bar for apps and a drink, as the hostess told us it would be 30 minutes.
75 minutes later, she basically told us we were out of luck, since she was seating all parties before us and that walk-ins are at the last of the line. I get that you need to service existing reservations, but if that's the way it goes, why lie to us and say it would be 30 minutes with no problem?
Regardless, the atomosphere is bland and the apps weren't very good either - the dated decorations in the bar area had dust all over them (gross.) I'm sure in 1989 it was a hip little room.
My personal victory of the story was that we told people who had just walked in to not eat there because it was a waste of time. Though on the way out I heard the hostess try to explain to them why we were upset, we saw them walk into the place we went next (win!) and bought them champagne.
Go somewhere else. This place was kind of lame.
Went here to begin the bachelorette dinner and it was outstanding. The food, cocktails, desserts, all are 5 star quality. I insisted that my husband and I go back a few days later for lunch, once again, terrific! The wait staff is so friendly and remembered me from the other night. This place is all around amazing!
This is a MUST if you visit Breck.
Definitely my favorite spot in Breck. Â I visited several other restaurants here in Breck while i was in town but, I found that the food here at the Blue River Bistro was the best bang for my buck.
Casual yet intimate, this restaurant houses cozy booths, a full bar, live music, friendly and attentive waitstaff, great menu choices and even better tasting food. Â I was more than pleased with my pork and beef sliders, which are included in their happy hour menu, where they serve 2 for 1 apps and 2 for 1 martinis, twice a day, 7 days a week! Â
My sliders were a choice of 3 of either kobe beef pattys with Asian sauce, carmelized onions and lettuce, and slow roasted BBQ pork, served with chipolte sauce and cotija cheese. Â Thinking back, what I really enjoyed as the little buns they were both served on, which were nicely toasted and light. Â
My mixed green salad was both tasted fresh and light, and included a nice array of mixed greens, tomatoes, carrots, green peppers, cucumbers and their homemade balsamic dressing (with a bit of parm!). Â Considering that the lettuce was flown in from somewhere, this was the most tasty bit of veggies I had while I was in Breck. Â
Their other menu items include some traditional Italian pasta and chicken dishes as well, and although I didn't try any of them, I couldn't help noticing the HUGE bowl of past that was delivered to our neighbors at the next table!
I yearned to return to the Blue River Bistro for another meal before I departed out of town but, the b/f kept telling me we had to try something else. Â But, every other meal I had in Breck just wasn't as satisfying as the Bistro. Â So, I might just have to move in upstairs above the Bistro next time I find myself in Breckenridge!
I'm sorry, this place absolutely does not live up to the star level it's been given. I wanted to give it more than one star, since I find it hard to give such a low score to any restaurant, knowing how difficult the industry is, but I can't. There was nothing I found that earned it two...
My boyfriend and I ate here the other night and it was one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant in a while. Okay, they were somewhat busy. Not "line-out-the-door" busy, but the tables were full..So we thought, must be a good sign, since other places in town were dead. Ah, false hope.
The woman who served us, as well as the water girl, were the rudest individuals i have encountered in a while. Â We had eaten earlier during happy hour, so we weren't planning on a large meal. This clearly pissed our waitress off....when we simply ordered the special, Mussels, & 3 apps (all over $12 each), she pretty much ignored us the rest of the night. Lovely. I don't recall there being a rule that when you dine you must eat what will make the server the most money. I thought good service EARNED you a tip..clearly this chick did not get that memo. Anyways, I have not experienced such deliberately rude service in recent memory. Â
The food? Lame....tasted as if it was out of a box, and thrown on the plate. The Capresse salad was totally uninspired, and the bruschetta was horrible...no flavor and tasted stale. The only thing that was okay, was the mussels special. It was pretty good, at least I liked it. My bf did not. We eat/make mussels often, and this was pretty average.
While the food was sub-par, compared to other restaurants with the same price tag, the service was worse. I understand it's suppose to be one of the best restaurants in Breck, but save your money (Our tab was $90) and go to Empire Burger for awesome service, nice waitstaff, and food done the way it should be...with passion and a purpose.
We will never return to BRB. Not that they would honestly care.
I came here with coworkers for a large company event with advanced reservations. We arrived a few minutes late but our table was prepped and we were seated immediately when we arrived. The menus were set down and the waiter came by with water quickly as well.
He gave us several options for ordering appetizers for the table and they came quickly as well. He was extremely helpful and gave us a wine guide to picking wine and we ended up picking 3 different wines of varying quantities in bottles which all worked out well for us as per the recommendations suggested.
The entrees came shortly after we were done with the appetizers and the breads here are AMAZING. They did refill the bread, which I wish they didn't because I just ended up getting really full off the bread. I want to explain that you should BY NO MEANS GET THE STEAK!! Everyone else's dish was delicious and that's where the four-star review comes from but I had the steak, medium rare, and it was bitter and chewy and untastefully done. I really didn't like it but on the account of a good experience and the deliciousness of everyone else's entrees I must say this is a four-star place after all.
