I've been coming here for a few years now each time hoping it will be better and never is. I'm surprised how packed it is but that's because cbad and oside are seriously lacking in good bars! First off no matter how hot you are you will pay a cover, don't get me wrong I don't mind but once you get in you'll want your money back. Music is so so, drinks are a bit overpriced and the crowd is full of tools. Also you can't vape inside which for non smokers is totally lame! Yes I would recommend it only because there's not much else to choose from unless you head to pb or the gas lamp but I'd rather just drink at a buddies and save my money.

At the corner of the bar was a dude in a plaid cap, turned 3/4 back... OMG! It's Scumbag Steve. And that, my friends sums up this intriguing and scary slice of mankind.

The good: Cheap beer out back before I believe 10, I think it was a friday night that I went and it was dollar beers on the back patio / smoking area. 4 Bars total, one bar in the back, one in the side room, and two in the main room. There was a lot of girls so my buddies were quite entertained dancing and mingling.

The bad: I was DD'ing the last time we were there, so I wasn't drinking, period. I had a handle on my friends who were drinking, a lot. One of my friends was pretty drunk and the bouncer started talking to him, I went over and said that I'm his DD tonight and I'll make sure that he's ok. Nope, he needed to be thrown out of the place at that instant for "stumbling" even though he was walking fine, he just had the dumb drunk person eyes going on. After he put up a verbal fight for a bit with me at his side, the manager approached us outside and offered him free admission next time, which was cool but brings me to my next point. Cover charge: no one likes to pay to go into a bar unless there is a PPV on. The drinks at the main bar are a bit pricey and the bartenders could give 2 craps about you IMO. The clientel here is a little "off" as well. It's a strange mix of hippie / marine / gangster kids / and skater kids, kinda blows my mind a little bit. Maybe there's less hippies when they don't have a reggae band there.. which actually wasn't half bad I'll admit.

The bottom line is that this place kind of makes you feel like a cattle, like you're in a huge night club in a city, but it's in Carlsbad, and it's a bar, be personable. I wouldn't go back on my own will, but if my friends want to go back...I'll deal.

somehow managed to get a ride all the way up here to the North end of Carlsbad from my day of YELP fun in Hillcrest....
    Sprung Monkey was playing...woo hoo!

the club was bigger than I had imagined..it took me most of the night to figure out that one side was lined with a mirror (i really thought there was another room over there and when I couldn't find a way to get to that room I touched the mirror...hmmm too much fun in hillcrest that day!)

    the sound system was rocking!
can't comment on drinks or bartender...didn't drink here...
no backstage...they roped off a VIP area for us...haha...it was actually quite ammusing.

there was a separate-ish area that had pool tables etc...i peaked in...

after the bands were done...the club turned dance club...and a bit on the ghetto side...but i had fun! i wouldn't go out of my way to come here...but it was enjoyable =)

    they have a parking lot...
the toilet wouldn't stop flushing...that was interesting peeing in that!

I'm sorry- I cringe when we have to play league here.  I really don't understand why the bartender isn't friendly to everyone.  I mean when it's slow it's an opportunity to enhance peoples experience and want them to come back. (when they don't have to be there)

Tuesday is beer and shot night after 8pm

I just hate standing there holding my 20 waiting to be acknowledged while she talks to either a guy that works there or is helping out there.

A lil tip:  Smile - welcome people- acknowledge them - get some zip in your doo-da!

This place sucks. The staff is rude. The bathrooms were out of order and dirty.  All the drinks are over priced.  The only reason this lame bar stays in business is because Marines don't know any better.  So if you want to be treated rudely and be surrounded by Marines that don't know know to act in public this is your place.  Some how they get away with charging a cover and they will keep you waiting in a line even though the place isn't full just to make it look busy.  The whole time your in line you will see the security guard taking bribes and letting people cut in front of even worst towards the end of the night people get kicked out the back door and come back to the front and grease the bouncer to get back in. Very shady. I witness all of this and stayed anyway only because I was with a party of 8 and we were there to see a friends band and wanted to show our support. None of us had anything good to say afterward.  Save your money don't go to this grimy bar with shady security.

This place has not changed much in years. Decent bar, small venue for local bands.

Good for them for supporting local live music
Bad for them for not serving any local beer.  Terrible beer selection.

Well, that was my cat Doobie's review.
(He decided to lie down on my keyboard)

Looking at the reviews, I'm not sure what kind of douchebag magnet this might be on a Fri or Sat night, but we went on Sunday day and Sunday night and had a great time.  Most people were watching the game Sunday so we were able to grab one of the four tables.  Sunday night was busy but not packed.  Servers are friendly.  Beers were $2.75.  I can tolerate a lot of douchebags if I'm drinking $2.75 beers.  Hell, we spent more on the jukebox than on beer.

This is your usual night club, great for your ladies if they want to go out. Be for warned however this place is crawling with marines and sailors, and it is packed nut to butt. Every time I have been there and i mean ever time, this includes dropping off friends as a DD there has always been cops arresting someone. This is understandable to a point, but I believe the security should be more proactive about getting the riff raff out and more selective about what jerks they let into the club.  There is a very nice amount of pool tables in here.

My suggestion avoid going here on the 1st and 15th (military paydays) Pre game it hard before going, and have a blast!

Whore's crossing!!!! fun place. I've always had a blast here. Have Sunshine (yes, her real name) make your drinks. She's usually in the back bar by the pool tables. Fun place if you're with the right people.. The old dude, who is always having the time if his life alone, on the dance floor is entertaining. You either know who I am talking about or you will. Only downer is that they close down the back patio at midnight.

This place is ok. It was very very quiet but I did come on a Tuesday night so maybe that was it. You can chose the music here on a little juke box thing which is cool and they have pool which can always make for a good time.
I don't know if I would go back there are better places around Carlsbad.

Good fun for Friday and Sat night if you want to keep things local. Different DJ"s  and bands play every weekend so the dynamic of the crowd and dance floor is different. Some night are better than others depending if the Dj know what to play on the dance floor. Just remember that it's still very close to Camp Pendleton and it's will be filled with military. Overall still fun to mingle and and get your dance on!

Some things to expect on a weekend visit to Boar Cross'n:

    $7 mixed drinks
$5 cover (if you get there after 9p)
    live music and/or dj
    people in costume
    train wrecks
    two bars
    no beers on tap
    sticky floors
    quick-moving lines at the restroom
no competition at the pool tables
no chance at finding a nice, SINGLE, guy or girl

    And there you have it...

The $1 beer nights are great. And it's a decent place to catch my friend's friend's band, which is usually the only reason we end up here.

Other than that, I wouldn't really come here just to hang out. Not really my crowd..

The first few times I came to this bar I was not at all impressed.  Boars has recently grown on me a little though... dollar beer nights out on the patio are a plus.

I didn't know there was a place for ghettho thug types to hang out in Carlsbad.  This is the place...or maybe it was because of the wu-tang ish rap group that was performing there?

Eh... what can I say? It's a bar. The night we went there was live music which is always fun. The drinks were good. I'm not sure how much they cost  because my girlfriend bought the drinks. There was a fair amount of seating which was nice. The bathrooms were clean and the line moved quickly.

Irish Breakfast- Irish Dancers!!  One Sunday each month Vivienne prepares a traditional Irish breakfast with an Irish Band and if you're lucky REAL Irish dancers too!  The next one is April 17, 2011.  Today we met people from Ireland who now live in San Diego who drove an hour for the Irish breakfast and loved it! (Hello Tony and Erin/Delorna/Sherina)

We go here every weekend and love it!  There is always breakfast on Sunday but Irish breakfast is only once a month.  We Love going here usually on the weekends in the days- the people are wonderful and friendly and so are the bartenders- Vivienne, Nicki, Kristin and Sonya.

Went again. This time on a night with a cover (Saturday night). Yuck. Tons of Dbags and skanks everywhere, generic top 40 hip-hop, and a $5 cover. No thanks. Will only go if dragged here again. There are so many better places to dive into in Carlsbad on a Saturday.

Basically a typical bar. pool tables, nice size bar in the middle, small dance floor in the back corner with dancers on platforms. Overall i guess its a pretty decent place. My friends go here alot but I'm not really a fan. There are other bars and resturants all around this place in walking distance. I went here once for my friend's group performance on a hip hop night and it was pretty legit. Now that I look at it, maybe I should go back and try it again. The last tiome I went i didnt feel like goin out and got dragged here so this may not be the best review to go off of.

Usually you will not find me at Boar Cross'n on any night of the week...it's usually full of marines and other d-bags that I prefer to stay away from. Locally known for the rough crowd that hangs out here, last night was an exception, and I had a really fun time!

This is a great place to play pool, but get there early so you can grab a table before the place gets really busy. You also avoid the cover charge too!

No pitchers served here, just bottles, and the staff here was very nice and all did their jobs well. Nice outside patio area also, with the second bar set up out there.

Would return for the pool tables!

I have to give them credit for trying to get some musical acts going on a regular basis. Supernatual played a few nights ago. Things like that are good for Carlsbad. The one slight problem is that it's still the Boar's Cross'n, no matter how nice the stage is. Sorry.

Horrible service, rude bartenders. Clientele consisted almost entirely of overly intoxicated Marines and combative, barely dressed young "women." Definitely not recommended for your older professional looking for an enjoyable evening.

The "Grill" part of this place was taken off the sign.  They should just get a new sign, it looks cheap and broken now.

This place really wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be, based on the reviews.  I went there for a show - a show that seemed out of place in this bar.  But, it turned out okay.  I guess they are trying to have more shows there or something?  Weird, but whatever.

They have $1 bottles of Newcastle on Thursdays until 10:00.  There were a lot more dudes than chicks - most looked like they were from the military.  The chicks were mostly skanks, as previous reviewers have noted.

I wouldn't go here to hang out, but if a band I must see played here, I'd go anyway.

This place is the worst! The bartenders are terrible- they don't know how to mix a drink. The lady who works Saturday nights will make you wait 15 minutes to order a drink and then expect a big tip.  The bouncers suck too. This place blows hard.  I would not recommend it.

The DJs play mostly classic hip hop.
Sometimes you just want to hear crappy TOP 40 songs when you party...which they don't play.
After 930, they stop playing requests.

This is is really lame and boring.

Coming here on a Saturday night, we first had to pay the cover fee of $5 to enter the bar/wanna-be nightclub. Upon coming in there's a bar directly to the left to make a nice little pit stop have a drink before entering and having a real drink. This must be for the true alkys who have a drink ever few steps. The main bar (?) is located in the middle of the whole place and is in a round oval shape where everyone surrounds.

This would be the prefect place for me, a preschool teacher, to teach my kids their shapes.

    Cylinder - Shot Glasses
    Rectangle - Pool Tables
    Oval - Main Bar
    Sphere - Disco Ball

Overall, this place is just a bar. On the dirty side, skanky girls walking up in here, and lame on the drinks. The only pluses are the pool table. I agree with Cheri and Chris....this place is called and should be renamed Whore's Crossing. Just read the reviews before coming.

Ah, the Whore's Crossing.  The bouncers need a reality check, the bartenders need a drink book, and the dj's (who typically spin nothing but club music.....so over it) need real jobs.

Only reason I'd ever go there is for the multiple pool tables, all decently well kept and full-size.  But i would only ever go during the day, only in the middle of the week.  The men's bathroom usually smells of nothing but piss, too.  Very poorly maintained.

Takes cards, which is nice.  Plenty of cabs usually sit outside in case you have one too many, and its easy to get to even if you dont have a car (carlsbad transit station is right across a wee little road - access to buses and the coaster)

I am going with chris s.'s statement of "Ah, the Whore's Crossing."

I have never seen so many skanky women in my life.  They were 40ish and wearing really short dresses and danced with their legs apart.  I didn't want to look to much because I was afraid I might see something very scary.  The women with large breasts were just about falling out.

Then there was the men...the weird creepy kind that start to dance near the skanky women in hopes that maybe the skank will hook up with them in the bathroom.

It's quite a scene...it was great people watching.  There was a live band that was pretty decent and they have a back patio that you can smoke at but you can't bring your drinks out there and they close the patio down early for some reason.

    They charge a cover....for what I don't know.

    There are pool tables.

Oh...not everyone was a perv or a ho...there were normal people there too and I don't think there is a lot of options in the area.

Note:  I was told the ho's were married women of servicemen deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan and are horny and looking for a hook up.  I hope that is not true because that would be very sad.

Where do I start? We get there and the body guard wanted to double check my I.D. to make sure it was really me. (Props for taking your job seriously, dude) We get in, find a table and wait for a little bit, thinking they had a waiting service.... we were wrong.

We get up to order our drinks from the tall blonde bartender. We told her the exact ingredients that consist of my drink. I look down to see a drink I did not order. The drink I ordered is green, not red. So then we ask her to actually make the right drink, and she stares at us. Like the kind of stare you give to someone after they cut you off on the freeway almost hitting you. So i stare at her right back. I ask, "I didn't order that. I ordered a JuneBug. A junebug is not red. Can you make me a junebug please?" She is still staring at me. So then i push the drink towards her some more, and repeat, "Can you make me what I ordered, please? Can you do that?" She finally says, "This is a Junebug. It's fine. Just drink it." She said this like 4 times right after she walked away. My boyfriend and I immediately look at each other in shock. We wait for her to come back, and she is still insisting that I try her drink. Anyway.... the wrong drink (which was horrible, BTW) ended up "being on the house". Actually, it ended up on the table next to us that was empty.

So then I try to be sneaky and use the other bartender, then she yells at me for using the wrong bartender! WTF?!

As the night goes on, the place starts to get packed. All I see is women in clothing that looks like it's falling off. And not in a good way. Like women's clothing is screeeeaaaming for help!

Lastly, we had to wait in line to go outside. Again, WTF?! The guard who took his job seriously refused for let more than 5 people outside at a time. He was really pissing a lot of people off.

Never again will I ever go there. Not to mention, they had some underage drinking going on. Saw a girl I knew a couple years ago who I know for damn sure, ain't 21! This place is no good for any reason. Maybe they need a new owner....

    Dope venue...
Drink prices, decent... pretty average... I mean compared to Downtown s.d. its cheap... but yeah...

The venue is spacious, pool tables, a stage for live shows... Really cool bar area... like a big island in the middle of the venue... the bartenders were top notch, no complaints there.

The bathroom left much to be desired unfortunately, bathrooms are one of my top priorities... theres nothing like having to drop a bomb to find that there is either A) No lock on the door, B) Shit all over the place, C) No toilet paper... I guess the main one in my potty talk exploits here is the no lock on the door... now... dont get it twisted, this doesnt refer to this venue but, There was water all over the floor, im hoping it wasnt sh*t water... I was kinda worried...

Used to be my favorite place in Carlsbad.  It has been a meat market, but the ratio was off if you were a guy.  The impression I used to get was the girls you'd meet there on a weekend night just wanted you to buy them free drinks.  They do have a few pool tables and a dance floor so its a great place if you have a group.  I used to call this place the Boar's Nest (from Dukes of Hazzard).   i haven't been here in quite a while but i'm pretty sure they charge cover now... oh well.

Okay....when I was 21 or 22, I thought this place was the best thing that ever happened to me. Multiple bars, a 5:1 male female ratio, and the ease of scoring free drinks from drunk men simply by saying "I'm so drunk...tee hee hee".

Fast forward 7 years and I simply can no longer stomach this place. Once they added a VIP section (not sure if it is still there), $5 to $10 cover and bouncers who think they work at the Playboy Club in Las Vegas I opted to drink elsewhere.

Sleazy bar with snobby staff and low class service.  It could be a fun place if you go with a group of friends, but definitely not a place where you would want to go to meet people.  These are the general rules:

    1) When you go outside to smoke, do not attempt to take your drink with you.   The bouncer will give you a stare down as he sees you approaching the back door with a drink in hand.  He will not back down until you place it on the ledge.

    2) As you place your drink on the ledge, mentally pray that no one places roofies or pees in your drink.

    3) Do not open a tab using a credit card.  When the bartender closes you out, she will not give you an itemized bill.

Ex:  $37?  I only had 2 bud lights and 2 Guinness!

    4) When you ask the bartender for an itemized bill, she will look at you stupidly and break down in near tears.  She will then be frustrated and say, "I don't know how to do it.  I am going to have to call the manager."

    5) Good luck even getting your drink and tab on the weekends after 10 PM.  It takes a miracle of God for this to happen.

    6) Be patient when the bartender repeatedly ignores you.  She is too busy and you are just another dumb drunk she has to deal with.

Follow these rules and you should be able to have a good time.

I don't share the same sentiments. I can understand some of the comments about the security, and the main bartender is a bit snobby. However, the drinks aren't overpriced to me, and they make the best tequila sunrise I have found in Carlsbad. If you want quick service just hit up the side bar by the front door. If you smoke, the back patio is where you have to go, but they close it at midnight. After that, you're going to have to wait in line. Speaking of the line, there's always a long line there, and people grease the bouncers $20 to jump ahead in line all the time, so the wait can suck. The cover is usually $5 to $10, and they have a band play on Friday night that plays 80s chick songs. It gets crowded, but it's not that bad of an experience.

As a fellow C-bad dweller, I have found this place to be a normal stop in my crawl.  I have to say I always have fun.  Even with the douchebag bouncers that think that they are working at a 5 star establishment, it is always a good time.  There is a good diversity of people which makes it fun, although BEWARE...there is always a pride of cougars with the sense of smelling out young blood.

    But you I don't disagree with Charles I. ...
