The Boardroom is nice, especially for Modesto. But then again, it's not very difficult to be higher up on the list given the state of some of the other bars/lounges in town. It is more upscale so there is a dress code. As a result, It tends to attract an older and more sophisticated crowd. I don't recommend it if you're looking for someplace a little more wild.

Overall, it's a good place to have a chill night and catch up with friends over drinks.

This place is far from casual. You've gotta be dressed up when you come in no matter what day or time it is. It is just a bar tho so idk what's with the strict dress code.  You'll be told to leave if your not up to par with there standards.  Even if it's only one in the afternoon.  The drinks aren't cheap.  An idk what this Monday karaoke is cuz they haven't had it when I've come there.  There bands are alright but they really don't have too much to offer.  The place looks nice and the patio is a great place to relax but I'd prefer to go elsewhere.

One of the better bars in Modesto.  Like the atmosphere.  Classy and clean bar with live music.

Because Fat Tuesday was lame, we ended up at the Boardroom. Neil and Matt's music is always a listen. The thing is this is just a clean and classy spot. I am sure sometime in the future, I will go back. The food is not to bad either.

Really cool bar... Needs Cover charge on the weekends. 10 bucks! Karaoke Monday is the best day to enjoy this place!

If only there was a 0 stars option. I mainly give this review because of how lame the security guard is.  I was with a group of friends and I stepped out for a minute and then he wouldn't let me back in even though I told him that my group of friends were in there. So instead, they all had to leave since I couldn't get in.

I've been here a few times but last Friday was the first time I ordered some food. I didn't have much of a dinner so I asked the bartender what he suggested for a snack. The bruschetta was AMAZING-- probably one of the best I've ever had. I'll definitely be back to try a meal. Great atmosphere, good drinks, live music.. pretty nice for Modesto.

This is a cute little bar. Its where I go when I want an actual cocktail, as opposed to a mixed drink (alcohol+soda). They make a very good sweet manhattan.

As an old guy, I don't frequent the nocturnal activities in downtown Mo-town.  This review is for the business lunch, after-work-grab-a-beer crowd.

The Boardroom has become my go-to place for lunch and after work.  I've been known to do both on the same day.  To me, the place has a real classy feel to it.  I almost forget I'm in Modesto (step out the door, trip over the homeless guy and I'm right back in good old Modesto).

The specials are usually a safe bet, but I also am a fan of the barbecue tri tip sandwich as well.  There's always a new beer on tap to try, and they're generous with the samples.

When I'm at work, I stop by the Boardroom.  It's as good as Wexford's without having to drive down McHenry.  Great service.  Great food.  And really good beer on tap.  What's not to like?

Though it has quickly became a popular evening spot in Modesto, there are many other reasons to visit The Boardroom. Not only are their drinks top notch but their food is amazing. I have had lunch at The Boardroom a few times and also grabbed lunch to go. The staff is friendly and helpful in making decisions. The most recent sandwich I got to go for lunch was amazing. My wife and I frequent The Boardroom when we have a change to have a date night. Now that they added the outdoor seating with the near pop-out tvs I am sure The Boardroom will become more of a common place to find me. The Boardroom is a perfect example of what Modesto needs more of. So far they have not lowered their standards to increase bar sales like all other bars have in this area and I don't think they will ever need to. Roman and his staff have done a great job with The Boardroom.

Open and classy interior.  Collared shirt required. Ice cold beer, great tap items. Nice people.

Went with a few friends here on a Friday evening and I really liked what they did to this place. Oil paintings hanging on the walls, live band on the 2nd floor overlooking the bar and a friendly crowd. Now for the downside! Careful when ordering premium drinks, the bar tenders seem to to pour the cheap stuff if your not paying attention. We ordered Ketel One and received Smirnoff instead! Come on guys, if we're willing to pay the price for Top Shelf than damnit SERVE IT!
Needless to say my friend called them out on it and received a nice pour for his replacement.

Great lounge! Love the decor and atmosphere. Music was a little old fashioned but band was still good. Prices are pretty moderate for a downtown bar.

The Boardroom is my favorite night spot in Modesto.

The service and staff are wonderful and attentive. The modern decor really accentuates the trendy feel and vibe of the bar. I'm not a fan per say of live music, but the music at the Boardroom is not too loud or distracting. If anything it adds to the ambiance of the bar.

It has an eclectic mix of people, ranging from young professionals to established businessmen.

The only place I'd go in downtown Modesto.

Really upscale and laidback. great for a date or a get together for friends who are relaxed by default. the live music isn't distracting and the drinks are strong. Just an overall awesome place.

I've been here twice. The first time, I'd spent the night drinking at some horrible dive bar I'd been dragged to, and walking into The Boardroom was like going into a haven. My friends and I shared this heavenly chocolate cake and had some great cocktails, and our waitress was a doll. However, it was insanely crowded and getting the check was like waiting for grass to grow.

The second time I went was just yesterday, for lunch with my best friend. It had been about three months since dessert night, and I wasn't sure what to expect. The bartender was a complete sweetheart; handsome, friendly, laid-back, and attentive without being obnoxious. He let me sit wherever I wanted and offered me water while I waited for my friend. When she arrived, he gave us a mountain of time to look over the menu while chattering about how much we missed each other.

We ordered two Blue Moons, and he was out because he had to change out the , so I opted for Stella. (Forgive me, I am NOT a beer connoisseur - yet!) Later, he told me he had more Blue Moon and gave me my drink FREE, as a way of "apologizing" for being out the first time around. Can we say fantastic service? YES!

What I loved was that my friend and I were free to eat and chat, exchange gifts, and be generally giddy and gossipy in peace. There were maybe 10 other people in the place, and some nice oldies music was playing. Portraits of Franck Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe were hung strategically around the space, and every table and countertop was gleamingly clean. The bathroom is also SPOTLESS, and very nice inside, which is a good reflection of any restaurant.

Overall? The Boardroom is my new favorite place to go for a bite to eat and a drink. I have to say, I was very afraid I'd walk into Snobville, based on some of these reviews. However, asking men to wear a collared shirt isn't the end of the world, and at the end of the day, it's a great alternative to many of the rip-off joints out there for lunch in good old Mo-Town, USA.

Monday afternoon, decided to stop in and check out the newer place in Modesto.  Not sure what I expected after reading the previous reviews.  However, what I found did not come close to anyone's descriptions.  First, I would have a very hard time using the word "luxury bar" as some did.  We sat at the bar (the only patrons in the place) and looked down the bar at an open utility closet filled with cleaning supplies and a ladder hanging on the wall.  Over all, the place was nice but we felt lacked warmth.  It was a bit sterile and cold feeling.

We sat at the bar, the bartender did greet us took our orders.  I had a dirty Goose with onions and my guest had dirty gin martini with olives.  Now, how can you really mess that up?  Well, they were the worst Martinis either of us have ever had!  Ha put way to much "dirty syrup" in them....could hardly drink them, then charged $10 each.  Price ok if they had been ok.

After serving us our drinks, not another word from him again until I started to put on my coat.   Which at that point asked if I wanted another.  Mind you, we were the only patrons in the bar.  He spent his time walking up and down the bar, watching football, on his cell or talking to other employes.

Those who know me, know I am not an overly picky person and normally give a place a second chance.  This place I will not, there are several other places within walking distance that far out shine tis bar.  I make it to Modesto several times a year and have been very pleasantly surprised at some of the great downtown eateries and lounges, but this sadly is not one of them.

For Modesto, this is definitely a solid place for a good drink.

But most of this goes to the two bartenders.  I wish I could remember your names but your drinks were just too good!

The guy was also DJing the iPod-like jukebox, and kept great songs coming (and even made us guess the artists on obscure accoustic/live versions). but the girl (sorry I'm forgetting your name), was priceless. My suave friend was trying to pick up on her all night and she was killing me! priceless. I've never laughed so hard or been so entertained on a Tuesday night.  Too bad you don't work more nights (wish I remembered the restaurant you worked at, I bet their customers love you too).

If I end up in Modesto again (and I always do) I'm coming back here. No question.

FINALLY, a bar in Downtown Motown that isn't packed wall-to-wall with 'roid shooting Jersey Shore casting call rejects and their low-self-esteem human punching bag girlfriends.  It has the most impressive selction of imports and microbrews.....some of them on tap.  This place is HEAVEN for those of us who actually appreciate real beer (pardon the digression, but most Modestans think that there are only two kinds of beer: domestic swill and light domestic swill.  This is sometimes reflected in the beer selections of many local establishments.)  The decor is very hip and modern while at the same time trying to evoke the Rat Pack era of the early '60s.  The wait staff is very friendly and professional and the crowd is sophisticated and intelligent.  To those of you who complain about the dress code and about the crowd being "snobby"  there are plenty of ghetto, lowbrow establishments (ie Donoby's, White Hawk, O'Brian's, Club Suave......oh, wait, that place got shut down) for you to go to.  The Boardroon is for those of us who like having a good drink while listening to good music and being surrounded by good people.

Love this place so far! It's gorgeous design and atmosphere are welcoming and classy!  Love the 50's vibe with all the pictures of Dino and Frankie! Yummy dirty martini. Great beer selection and wine list has reasonable prices. Looks like my husband and I will be adding this place to our list of stops on our mini pub crawl dates. Good for girls night out too. The food is always yummy and perfect for munching. I Love that there is a dress code. I also love classic bartenders who know how to make a drink and treat guests as if they are valued. Cheers. I love you Boardroom!

Very nice place to go for a drink and enjoy the company of whoever you are going with. Clean, fast service, and a fun atmosphere. The crowd is of an older age, but if you don't want to be around ghetto people this is your get away. It cracks me up that people freak out and don't like the "no collar shit" rule. Plenty of other places to go in town without that rule. I enjoy it because it gives me an excuse to dress nice in a nice environment. Sean is the manager there and he is literally one of the  only reasons we go in. HE has been so great to me and my boyfriend, and has taken such good care of us! Keep it classy modesto

    Great place for lunch!
Service was prompt and attentive, he knew my fellow diners and joked with them making the time more enjoyable.
We shared the Bruschetta - which was excellent.  The tomatoes were quite tasty.
They have half sandwich orders that come with a salad, making a perfect lunch - not too much food.  I ordered the pesto chicken and it was flavorful and fresh.
    Definitely going back.

Attention fellow male Modestan's:  Apparently you are not allowed to enter The Boardroom if you do not have on a collared shirt.  Guys, painted on bow ties will not get you in.  I didn't know Modesto was becoming so sophisticated.  The bouncers are very serious, they won't even budge if it is a cute girl's birthday and all she is asking is for her precious boyfriend to be allowed in.  Not impressed.  Not to mention, it seems like a cradle-robbing atmosphere.

This place is always fun. Some people complain about the no hats & collared shirt rule, but there are plenty of places to go if you just want a drink. There's nothing wrong with having a place in town to go if you want to dress nice or take a date. If you have a problem with looking nice and being around adults, then maybe this isn't your place. But If you enjoy live local music, great drinks and a great atmosphere. This is your place!!!

The food at The Boardroom is amazing... We had the bruschetta and it is the best in town.  This is the second time I had food, as I had lunch the other day... Both times we were really impressed!  Monday nights are a blast with karaoke!

When the band started playing you couldn't hear yourself talk.  The music was so loud.    It was a great place to hang out.  The security kept it to it's maximum so it was never to crowded.  The dress code was for men not so much women.  Men have to wear a collar and they're serious about it or you can't go in.  I felt it was fair priced, $8 for drinks.  Go check it out!

This place is awesome... Modesto finally gets a real classy and luxurious bar/lounge. The interior is on point. The band that was playing was good.. All in all I really enjoyed the vibe of this place.. Its about time Modesto got something as nice as this place.. Not sure why other reviewers say that the clientele is snobby and uptight..I fit right in and i know my ass isn't snobby or uptight...

What a great addition to Modesto! It's just the right amount of sophistication for this town. Great drinks, beautiful decor.  Live band was a little loud to actually talk, but at least they were good. Hopefully they're able to keep the Ed Hardy crowd out of here.

The Boardroom located at 16th and J Street in downtown Modesto is hands down one of the best lounges in the area to enjoy great music, affordable drinks and an amazing atmosphere. Be sure to check out the classiest place in Modesto. The place exudes confidence and luxury, while still staying within reach of the average Modestan's budget! Bring your friends and stop by for a drink today!

The interior is amazingly beautiful, the staff is super nice, but the crowd is disgustingly snobby and uptight. There's a dress code like there's something real classy about Modesto, Ca.

Was impressed with the beauty of the building and the customer service but the vibe really suuuuccckkkks if you don't have a large stick up your ass.

Ok.....  So I went to The Boardroom.  Had a great time.  Sat at the bar and Adriana helped me.  She is an excellent bartender and makes really good drinks and suggestions.

    Pros:

    Nice atmosphere
    Good Live Music
    Good Selection of Drinks
    CLEAN
    Staff seems friendly

    Cons:
Still smells like carpet... (previous business?)
Drinks are a little expensive.  $20 for a bottle of Chimay Blue Label.
    NO HENNESSY!!!

I will forgive the expensive drinks as long as I can get Hennessy.  I will be back and do recommend everyone to check it out.
