Great location on the river. Â We had fun here on a Saturday afternoon during the down season. Â The food was good and plentiful. Â My husband had a burger and it got the burger enthusiast's seal of approval. Â I had the small shrimp cocktail which is actually a 1/2 pound of large shrimp and was delicious. Â The cocktail sauce is spicy but if you like horseradish, amazing. Â As for the service, it was hit and miss at the bar but mostly good. Â Overall, a nice pub and a fun place to hang out during the afternoon. Â My caveat is that we weren't here at night and I can't review how things are after dark.
Review Source:Great food in very big portions. The burgers were delicious but all the dishes around us looked fantastic, especially the tuna salad with nice slices of red raw tuna. The best reason to visit this place is the location...sitting outside on the creek watching the water and enjoying some beers or wine
Review Source:Just popped in today for a few drinks. Â The waitress seemed put out by this news, then steered us clear of any nice water front seats. Â The place was place was empty, it was 4:00 on a Wednesday summer day. Â
This type of service puts me off a place.  We are staying all week and this place is 20 steps from the townhouse we are renting.  We would have dropped a packet there  .... If we went back.  Their loss.
The positive; my regional ale was fresh and cold.
Stopped here the night we arrived in town. Cute spot, beers were good. :)  We went back our last night and had some food.  Food was excellent for the price!  Their happy hour prices where insanely cheap!  Maybe just because we get ripped off in NY! lol  Our waitress was nice, even suggested some (more lively) bars to hit up after dinner.
Review Source:Saturday night dinner here during the carnival festivities. great spot to sneak outside just to catch a bit of the snow show and fireworks. Â the Hula hula chicken was delicious and everyone at my table loved their food. Â when pigs fly was really good too. Â I felt bad for our server though - the place was clearly understaffed and he had a hard time. he forgot one of our salads and instead of saying sorry -pretended he had not heard them order the salad (even though we all remember him asking what dressing) kind of strange. Â the place was a little dingy/dirty too but i think its better for dinner at the bar and grab some drinks with friends vs. a nice dinner date. Â good location though
Review Source:Only stopped in for drinks later on a Tuesday evening during Steamboat Musicfest. Our bus driver had told us that they had half off drinks that evening so that certainly encouraged us :) They closed a little early that evening (midnight - it was after all a Tuesday though and in regular non-vacation life I'd already have been asleep in bed), but the drinks were seriously a steal. I think my friend had a double tall jim beam and coke for $3 and I felt bad even opening a tab for our approximately $5 worth of beer. Friendly bartenders who did a good job both putting up with and cutting off one excessively drunk (but funny) patron, and they even helped us out with the bus schedule. Would definitely come back when I find myself in Steamboat again!
Review Source:I was told by several locals that Boathouse was a must try in Steamboat Springs so my boyfriend and I went for date night. It is a very casual atmosphere- very pub like. We sat downstairs where they were playing the football games which my boyfriend was happy with. I got the Colorado Cobb salad which was absolutely delicious! It was unique in the sense that it had dried cranberries, candied walnuts and such instead of the typical egg, cheese, avocado, bacon, ect... We also split the lobster mac n' cheese which was SO good. It was more of a pasta dish than a traditional mac n' cheese which was unexpected. It was a huge portion size, we only ate half of it and took the other half home. The service was really great and friendly which was appreciated. If I were to come back to Steamboat I'd visit Boathouse again :)
Review Source:We went here because the location is great (right on the Yampa), they had Guinness and we were in the mood for pub food. What we got was disinterested, but friendly, wait staff, a nice view and crummy food. This is definitely a tourist trap joint phoning it in. My buffalo burger was bland and tasted horrible. Â That was nothing compared to how awful my wife's and chips were. Do yourself a favor: stop in and have an overpriced beer on the beautiful patio but eat somewhere else.
Review Source:After hearing the Boathouse was family friendly, we headed into town for dinner. We were delighted to find upstairs casual seating with a great view of the river.  (We'll come back in the summer to sit on the huge outdoor porch). We all loved the "pigs fly" and "cheese curd" apps. No disappointments in entrees either: burgers (add the sautéed jalapeños) and don't miss the fresh fries- yummy shrimp po boy, juicy chicken nuggets and the entree I would go back frequently for- the ahi tuna. Plenty of food yet  my son insisted on the lava cake for dessert .  I couldn't resist tasting it- surprisingly light- go for it - plenty to share.  Prices very reasonable- we'll be back.
Review Source:Reasonably priced upscale "bar" food made for a fun and easy dinning experience. Perfect after a long day on the slopes. Plenty of good choices on the menu, fast and friendly service, makes you feel like  local even if you are just visiting.
We had:
Tuna (yum!)
Crab Cakes (delish!)
Salads (good but too many croutons)
Salmon (highly recommended)
Hush Puppies (skip)
Lobster mac and cheese (skip - unless you just want to pick out the lobster like I did)
Ribs (I didn't eat but they went fast at our table, french fries were tasty!)
Flatbread (great!)
It was my uncle's birthday and unfortunately the security guard at the airport ripped the bag holding my little cakes out of my hand and turned them upside down. So sad :( The waitstaff fixed them as much as humanly possible, salvaged the less destroyed and overall made my smooshed cakes look pretty :)
We ve found that the food is plentiful in many places in steamboat and the Boathouse was no exception.
We ordered the light fare .the ifs and chips had 4 good size pieces and a boatload of fries Â
The crab cakes were three goo size cakes filled with crab meat not filler
The when pigs fly dish consisted of 5 Ginger sesame hawaiin style ribs with a nice portion of Cole slaw
Each were 15 and more than enough for a meal
A nice selection of beer Alaskan ale and Odessa IPA made the food go down easily
Plenty of good food at reasonable prices
I never order chicken out but I found Houli Houli Chicken on the menu. Â It was very tasty and the most succulent meal I have had in a long time. Â The chef has done something to prepare the chicken for this meal. Â I also had a shrimp in stock appetizer which was understated flavor-wise but outstanding with the accompanying shrimp sauce. Â My server was very attentive which enhanced the overall experience. Â Highly recommend this restaurant for dining and their cocktails were generous.
Review Source:We I must admit when it comes to a romantic dinner out, we can be a difficult pair. Â We don't drink and we seriously avoid dairy. But the staff was really accommodating. They made great small talk and we felt very welcomed.
We sat out on the enclosed and heated patio during sunset. The colors changing from spring evening to orange sunset to dark dusk. With the flooding Yampa river right at our toe-tips it made for a wonderful evening.
So dessert can be a challenge for the dairy-free. Even the chef came out to make sure everything was taken care of. Well, we settled for the brownie which isn't technically dairy-free. But, we've noticed cooked dairy doesn't have as strong of an effect.
Thanks Boathouse Pub for giving us a special honeymood dinner together.
Ok- a little perspective from my point of view. Â If you are looking for a bar and want some food as well, go for it. Â My salad was very good, but my friend's burger was way overdone.
If you are looking at this as a restaurant, I'd go somewhere else. Â Service was lousy- kitchen cooks were having a great time listening to loud music and joking. Â Too bad none of them was concentrating on cooking - all orders were very slow. Â Our waitress must have been embarrassed as she did not come by to give us any status even though we had been waiting over 30 minutes for our orders.
On another note, the bar scene looked good as it was crowded and hopping.
Stayed the weekend in Steamboat in August. Â We found the Boathouse Pub while wondering around. Â It is another of the several bars/restaurants located next to the Yampa River. Â The Boathouse has a nice patio with a second level where you can watch the Yampa river. Â Inside the pub there is a nice large bar. Â The bar service was OK, but could have been better. Â The night we were there, the place was very crowded and loud. Â There were two bartenders, but service was still rather slow. Â Don't expect a smile or any kinda of chatter from the bartenders, they just do their jobs like robots. Â We did not eat the food, but the menu selection looked very appetizing. Â The Happy Hour Specials are great and end at 6pm. Â Regular prices are kind of high for a place calling itself a pub. Â It was worth the visit and we will most likely stop in again when we are in Steamboat Springs.
Review Source:The food was excellent. Â The view from both the upper and lower decks is saweeet. Â It was super busy the weekend we got into town (which is pretty usual for Steamboat), so we had to wait like 20 minutes for a seat at lunch. Â The service was great, and I could see myself going here often if I lived in Steamboat.
Review Source:Came here on a weekday for lunch and sat on the patio.
Wonderful view of the Yampa!
Crab cakes were delicious and the fish and chips were great as well.
I love the fact that they have malt vinegar sitting on each table.
Service was not phenomenal, it seemed that every server but our own was around when we needed something.
Good mix of music playing which was a plus though.
Expensive for lunch but worth it.
We came about finding this place after we were 1. starving 2. sunburned 3. dehydrated and 4. desperate for some pampering, having been on the road camping for over a week. Â We were filthy, in grungey hiking clothes and crabby.
In fact, what we wanted was not a micro-brewery or bistro decorated in an abundance of ferns and antiques. Â What we were craving was a biker joint, complete with wise-cracking bartender, free pretzels and chips, cheap freezing cold beer and comfortable stools. Â Well, you will NOT find any place like that, or interesting dives, unfortunately, in Steamboat Springs, sigh. Â Least, I couldn't find any. Â If you know of any, write me.
But the Boathouse Pub has a comfortable, casual, non-pretentious atmosphere during the daytime, in summer, if you opt to sit outside. Â If you do, which is the only way I'd go here as the decor inside is drab, you get to sit right next to the river running full of rapids. Â It doesn't get much cooler than that. Â We even got to see kayakers and rafters float by--cool.
We had good beer (their selection is fair), and appetizers: the fried cheese curds and bruschetta, both which were fair. Â The fried cheese curds were dipped in a light beer batter. Â The bruschetta had veggies on it. Â I think for the money, you don't get enough cheese curds, though I'm a cheese-addict, so I suppose I didn't need any more.
I would give this place a "5" just for the atmosphere and beer, but ONLY if you're going to sit outside. Â So I'd call this place clearly a daytime, summer joint.
We tried going to the Mahogany Ridge Brewery and Grill but it was a two hour wait. They suggested we go here instead ...even though it's off the main strip by a block.
I've been to Steamboat maybe 6 or 7 times and this is hands down the best place for food at a very reasonable price. Looks like a brew pub but the food is off the charts. There some seating upstairs and at the bar but it's a cozy little place.
PROS: No wait on a Sat. night and a couple of TVs so the guys were able to watch college hoops. Food was a two step up from casual dining and certainly worth every penny we paid. Barstaff who served as our waiter was a total professional.
CONS: None ....
Look forward to going back ....
We popped in not planning to get too crazy but looking for a nice place for a drink before the end of the weekend. Â The live music and packed dance floor changed that. Â Great prices, fun environment, and great service. Â I would love to go back.
Didn't try any food, so I can't judge that on price or quality.
We walked right by this place assuming it was a bar with bar food, but a server at the about -to-close Sweat Pea Market turned us back toward the Boathouse with a confidant recommendation. Surprise surprise, there's a talented chef back there using local produce and specializing in pub style seafood. Our children enjoyed hand battered fish and chips, and I had an immaculate green salad with fresh berries, candied pecans and house made dressing, followed up with some jumbo lump meat crab cakes that were all a crab cake should be. Not doodied up with 6 vegetables and too much seasoning. Crab, breadcrumbs and butter were the predominate flavors. Yum! My husband had a fine locally sourced burger, cooked as requested. Sitting outside under a portico on the Yampa River made for a very pleasant atmosphere, but the place is casual, and a fave of locals in shorts and flip flops. I wouldn't sit inside unless I had to. My advice to the owners is to pub some flowers out front!
Review Source:We went to Happy Hour on a cool Saturday evening. 2 for 1 drinks..Yay! We also ate some glazed BBQ pork appetizers and they were sweet, salty, meaty, large and delicious. The hostess was very businesslike and not overly friendly but the waitress was very friendly. I'll go back for Happy Hour. The nights when there is live music get raucous, so look out!
Review Source:I believe this restaurant/pub is on it's last leg. I wouldn't eat here, maybe have a drink If got tired of all of the other bars that are over-looking the Yampa River (Boathouse's only redeeming quality). The food has been going downhill. I had the worst rueben sandwich of my life at this place and have heard similar from others. TAKE IT OFF THE MENU! Â Give the left over corned beef dinners that you don't sell to your dogs and see if they will eat it. The menu is limited, way over-priced and most of their food is okay at best. Their seared Ahi Tuna, I must say, was delicious so order that if you found yourself dragged to this "building with food and drinks for sale"
Review Source:I went here for a wrap-up party for the Paddling Life Pro Invitational competition on Memorial Day.
Downstairs the bar was packed with kayakers holding their PBR bottles like indie-hipster badges. Â Nice enough guys, though.
The wait staff was unfazed. Â Perhaps because the boathouse looks out on the beautiful Yampa River and features a little canal/boat-slip where kayakers can come in off the river for a beer, or two, or fifteen.
My wife and the in-laws got a table upstairs out of the chaos. Â
The waitress was busy, it took some time to order the appetizers, but we also told her we were just there for drinks to begin with. Â I can't hold it against her if we gave her false information.
We ordered the Black and Tan Onion Rings and something called
"When Pigs Fly". Â Onion rings were crispy and plentiful. Â The "WPF" was a large hunk of pork slow cooked and slathered in BBQ. Â Served on the bone, these meat-cicles were fantastic!
I can't wait to go back and try an entree.
In the winter this place has a great view of some mountain activities if you happen to be there at the right time and day. Just outside the patio is one of the oldest running lifts in the country which is kind of cool. The prices are a little high here and the portions are generous; service is okay. They appear to have made everything from scratch here so for that I have to give them credit. Of what I had the only thing that had a distinctive flavor was the onion rings. The one bathroom thing is very inconvenient. The place feels a little cold, not very warm and inviting like you would expect from your average pub atmosphere.
Black & Tan Onion Rings = 5 (and I don't even like beer...)
Fish = 5
Chips = 2
Rueben = 2
Coleslaw = 1
If this place would develop some unique sauces for their dishes they could really take it to the next level.
I unknowingly dropped in here during some kind of city-wide bar crawl while a friend went tubing. They were featuring a spiced wine with brandy and I believe I may have drunk half the vat. It was quite good and really helped with hangover tummy from the Friday night of beveraging the night before.
Beware, even though it is loud in there, the bartender can hear you. There is something about the acoustics in that place. The crowd is very kick back. It was mostly me and the waitstaff there for quite a while (I love getting to a bar too early for happy hour) but then it started to fill with a few locals, some passers through and a lot of weekend tourists. They have a patio that looked quite cool, but it was a bit nippy for me, so I stayed inside.
After beveraging at this place for a pretty solid 4 hours my tab was only ~$25. NICE!
Apparently, after while Outdoors Co. was taking over Steamboat this weekend there was a bit of a water leak at The Boathouse that caused the 3rd floor to collapse on the 2nd? So, this place may be closed until that all gets fixed.
