This is what Bay View is all about. I was skeptical at first as the last place was just ok, however the redo here was right on target. This place embodies the anti-chain establishment attitude and brings a genuine neighborly hipster flare with a righteous patio.
The bartenders are way cool and the craft cocktails are out of this world. I enjoy stopping here at the end of the night on my way home as its not a terrible walk if need be. I'm a hipster at heart and appreciate the eclectic nature of the vintage decor and antique apparel of the interior, both establishment and patrons.
This place adds the perfect dimension to Bay View and it feels like a warm welcome as your roll into the neighborhood.
Takes drinking to a whole new level.
The first time i went here, I was reading through the drink menu, and came across a drink with Fernet Branca in it. Â When the barkeep asked how things were going, and what he could make for us, i said "You had me at Fernet Branca." Â No didn't, but that would have been funny. Â probably not actually. Â But anyway, come here to explore your spirits and have your conventional thoughts on drinking challenged. Â
The staff is great. Â And i love their ice cubes! Â (not the staff's ice cubes, Boone & Crockett's ice cubes). Â they are big and square. Â gone are the days of trapezoid ice cubes.
First time ever at a Bay View bar and boy, did it knock my socks off. From the moment I walked in and heard Boom Boom by John Lee Hooker, I knew Boone & Crockett would have a special place in my heart.
My friend and I found parking right outside on a Friday night but as we neared the bar, we could hear the noise level from outside - the place was hopping! There is a lovely lounge area with couches and a coffee table, but the majority of the seating is a long booth seat with tables and chairs. It's fun because then you get to sit next to others and talk to strangers :)
The decor, as others have noted, is amazing. The deer heads on the wall didn't freak me out and I loved the vintage Americana feel: the Old Glory behind the bar, flickering candles illuminating the copper tones of the libations, the pictures of nautical knots on the wall. It was refreshing to be in a bar with ambiance, a bar without the glow of the ever-present television. It's intimate with a classy and unusual theme.
I would have given the place 5 starts save for 3 things: the noise level was just unbelievable for such a small place. The music was a grab bag of 70s funk and 50s/early 60s hits like Sam Cooke and Buddy Holly (which made my heart beat just that much faster - love it!) but just slightly too loud to make talking easy. Â It petered out around 12am but was still a bit rattling considering the snug environment.
Secondly, their specialty drinks were a bit pricey, ranging from $9-$11. I didn't order any of the specialty drinks, but they sounded delicious - just a tad expensive for me. $7 would have been justifiable, but $11 for a drink? Maybe it's the area, the alcohol... I don't know.
Thirdly, I ordered a moscow mule and it didn't come in a copper cup. Boo! BUT B&C serves drinks in charming (and large) mason jars, which made up for it. My friend and I had two glasses of a crisp pear cider which I'm dying to have again.
Be forewarned: this place seems to be a haven for hipsters. Personally, I like hipsters, but it was a little amusing how many bearded, spectacle-wearing, plaid-shirted men were there on one given night.
Definitely going back. :)
Upping Boone & Crockett to "as good as it gets" here on the ol' Yelp-o-meter because frankly, B&C really is (in my mind).
After making this spot part of my regular Bay View rotation, I can comfortably say that this joint embodies so many of the things that I find valuable in any go-to watering hole: knowledgable staff, killer drinks, an awesome ambiance, and a kick-ass patio for when it's nice out...
Fancy-ish pants more so than your corner dive? Yes.
The perfect place to enjoy an innovative cocktail or two with friends? Absolutely.
Instagram fodder for days? Act like you're surprised...
Yes, you'll pay for the cocktails. Yes, when it's crowded it's a bit much. But the confluence of understated pieces that make the B&C puzzle so special more than make up for these two potential negatives. The drinks are worth it. There's not much to be done if it's really crowded, it's a small space.
It's not a meat market, it's not a dive bar, and it *is* accessible Bay View cool on KK. Boone is the perfect spot to catch up with friends and enjoy delicious craft cocktails in a curated and cozy setting. One of my (new) Milwaukee favorites that has proven itself  as worthy of all five time and time again.
What an awesome place decor wise. Good drink selection and knowledgable bartenders.
The only issue was with an old fashioned. I ordered a brandy old fashioned sweet and a whiskey old fashioned sweet, and when I went to try the drink, it was the worst thing EVER! So, I asked the bartender what was up with that and he explained to me that was what I ordered. I was really confused, every other old fashioned I have ever ordered has ever tasted like that (It is a traditional recipe from like 1900 or some crap). Either way, he replaced the drink for free after I explained to him that I would like an old fashioned that I would typically order.
What I didn't understand is why they wouldn't explain that in the first place, or am I wrong?
Loved this bar! Â It has a lodge feel - very dark, hunting trophies (taxidermy) hanging everywhere. Â It's so cozy - perfect for a winter night. Â They give you a file folder of their cocktails and extensive beer list. Â They don't have many cocktails, but the ones they had were very good. Â
62/365
LOVE this place. Â The perfect classic cocktail bar that features a fantastic list of about ten cocktails (mostly standards, some house creations) as well as an excel spreadsheet of beers. Â You won't go wrong ordering your favorite drink here and or asking the bartender for help and venturing out into new territory.
The decor goes along with the name - lots of very cool taxidermy on the wall. Â I'm told there's a great beer garden, but for a cold winter night like ours it was the perfect place to warm up.
Boone & Crockett is a cozy little lounge with a surprisingly intricate drink selection.
Our party of four meandered in after 10:00 on a Friday night and by some miracle, one of the large, plush couches by the door was open. I wouldn't count on this type of luck every Friday though, it seemed like many patrons had to settle for standing around.
We ordered a variety of delicious libations, each with a mile long list of ingredients. I was a bit nervous about the complexity of the beverages, but each had its own unique character, smooth taste, and perfect balance of flavors. They come served in pretty glasses similar to the ones on display in 90% of grandmother's curio cabinets, except you actually get to drink out of these. Which is fun.
This is a definite must-stop location if you're in search of the perfect hand crafted cocktail in a non-pretentious, welcoming atmosphere.
Vintage glassware.
Vintage cocktails.
Sexytime atmosphere.
I'm pretty sure that having a drink at Boone + Crockett is the closest I can get to having a sip in the Commodore's library from Boardwalk Empire. They even have the creepy taxidermy animals all over the walls + a Jimmy Darmody-esque bartender.
Love the antique settees, marble topped tables and vintage chandeliers too. When we stopped, it was pretty dead - I'm not sure if I'd love it as much if the place was packed with skinny jeans + goatees. A certain amount of decorum is required to really appreciate B&C (in the same way that Bryant's is more fun when it's not packed with bachelorettes ordering Silk Stockings).
Why not 5 stars? Well, my first cocktail was a "specialty" and quite delicious I might add, but for $10, I expect Jimmy Darmody to fill UP the twee tulip glass, ok?
Also, they make a mean and authentic Sazerac. You know I'll be back.
I have a hard time thinking of another place that provides such joy in liquid form. Â Whether it be the Flying Sausage or the Brandy Sangree (and so much more), you will find a tasty elixir to please your palate. Â I like that I can walk in to B & C's and count on a killer cocktail, but friendly people to boot. Â There are always people willing to share their space. Â You can cozy up on a couch cushion or a bar stool, and you are likely to make a new friend. Â It is difficult to leave this place unhappy, because the concoctions here are sure to induce butterflies from the adventurous flavors of bitters or splendor from an accurate take on a Sazerac. Â I cannot think of another joint who can stand beside, let alone surpass, the kick-a*sness that is Boone & Crockett.
Review Source:Boone & Crockett is like Hotel Foster, but better. Why is it better?
1) It's not nearly as crowded, which means that it's much easier to get drinks quickly and it's not as loud;
2) It's not on North Avenue, so there are no bros filtering in on the weekends;
3) If you stay late enough on a weeknight, you might get to have an awesome dance party with one of the many fantastic bartenders because there will be no one else there and you can just jam out to ridiculous songs from middle school.
That pretty much sums it up, right? The decor is excellent (as long as you're okay with dead animals all over the place), and it has a small, intimate vibe. They've got a good selection of drinks, and the cocktails are delicious. This seems like the perfect bar for the Bay View crowd, and almost makes me wish I lived down there.
A business that prompts me to review it right after my first visit has either been underwhelming/frustrating or extraordinarily satisfying. The latter is the case in point with Boone & Crockett. It is up to B & C to disappoint me, but I don't see that happening.
As long as the bar keeps employing the friendly, conversational, talented bartender who prepared our Dark 'N' Stormies last night, I will keep coming to B & C. The guy prepared two tall Dark 'N' Stormies even without remembering well how to mix them, and they came out great (I have become a bit of a connoisseur of Dark 'N' Stormies). Oh, and here's the amazing bit: $6.00 each. You can't beat that.
Kudos to the management for setting up the place with a cozy, manly decor. I also perused their signature cocktails, and thought they have some great combinations. I'll have to go back to try them.
This is perhaps the best "new" cocktail spot in town!
They mix up a pretty interesting menu from the chalk board with a good but limited selection of booze, and other stuff in bottles. I think this place could up its game by buying more exotic libations for mixing purposes! If they did I would give them the 5th star.
The interior is amazing, dark, and cozy. They have too many chairs at the small bar, but otherwise the feel is relaxed. The couches in the window and the nice small tables along the wall make for a nice date night. Out back you will find some tables and very large shared picnic tables (heater above) make the back feel like you are lounging in your own back yard.
Now, this is Milwaukee, so a lot of people come for cheap beer night, and even on regular nights a lot of people are drinking beer, but for those of you looking for an upscale lodge feel with good mixed drinks in a relaxed section of Milwaukee this is the place for you. I would place it close to the Violet Hour/Whistler type of place if you are familiar with Chicago, but with laid back Milwaukee charm. If you are looking for a mixology experience outside of Bryant's come check this place out. When they expand the bottle collection so they can make more drinks, I think this place will be a must-visit in Milwaukee.
Fun fact for ya: Boone & Crockett is the name of a senior club at Harvard which are similar to the "dining" clubs at Princeton where I spent a few years if I do say so myself Broseph.
On the name (again) : The other thing I think is funny is that Chicago was taken by an "&" ampersand revolution in the past few years with everything from "Longman & Eagle, to Owen & Engine, to The Girl & The Goat" getting in on the so-&-so revolution. To see this in Bay & View is interesting and fun, and a little funny.
Great place, great drinks, great bartenders, and they sometimes play LP's on the turntable.
There's no shortage of quaint, cozy, pleasant neighborhood bars with personality here in Milwaukee but a couple of factors make this tavern special. Â First, it's new and classy without being too loud. Â That's big, it seems like much of the bar and restaurant clientele of America favors deafening levels of ambient noise, levels at which OSHA would require hearing protection if it were that loud in a factory. Â I love the ambiance here, in spite of the fact that there were hipsters when we went, it was dark enough that I didn't have to notice them. Â Some of the hanging lights are using those old Victrola cones, inverted, as shades. Â A big second positive factor is that Boone and Crockett is right across KK from Hamburger Mary's, which operates one of the few late night kitchens in town. Â The bartenders are friendly, and know how to mix the standard cocktails, they also sport some of their own concoctions. Â My request for a proper after dinner drink in the brandy-cognac-Armagnac family stymied them, but maybe I was just being difficult. Â They do have impressive whiskey and gin shelves, a smart selection of wines and beers. Â I think this is a good bar to bring a small group of good friends for conversation, or a date. I would have no qualms about coming to this bar by myself, it's that kind of place.
Review Source:Before coming here I had heard really good things about this place. It's in my neighborhood and I figured why not?
Upon walking in, I realized that it seemed very familiar... very comfortable and that's because it's like a lot of other places popping up lately. Mounted animal heads on the wall staring at you while you sip your beverage, old phonographs used as lamps - complete with the antique light bulbs (which are so in right now!) and eclectic music playing just loud enough. Honestly, if I hadn't been wearing my skinny jeans I would have felt like I wasn't wearing my uniform to fit in there.
Besides the atmosphere, the people there were an odd mix. From frats boys that lost their way from Water Street (yep, that happened) to really drunk, bearded hipsters who were downing Pabst like it was water (which I think to hipsters it probably is) the place was packed on a Friday night. Looking back I probably should have picked a spot in the backyard area at one of the picnic tables, but I guess I know better for next time.
Now to the really important part - the drinks were amazing! This is not a place where you should go to get a beer. Let one of the very skilled bartenders make you drink - they are like art in a glass. My vodka drink had a very refreshing cucumber/basil note to it that was amazing! Sweet, but in a different way that was very enjoyable. LOVED IT!
I would go back, but I think I would pick another night was during the week as to avoid some of amatuers.
Well, the Hotel Foster boys are at it again with another amazing bar. Â With a more intimate feel, this bar is beautiful. Â A lot of thought and love must have went into the bars decor because it all fits together so perfectly. Â This bar is great for a date night or to just sit on the back patio and enjoy the weather. Â Well done!
Review Source:If I lived in Bay View this would be my go to drinking hole.
I love all that Hotel Foster has to offer, and this just expands on that with a quaint place and awesome patio. Â
These guys & gals sure pay attention to detail - and you can tell. Â From the strategically placed taxidermy, to beautifully hung light fixtures, to thoughtfully made cocktails - I can't get enough of this place!
5 STARS. Â #bam
Love you, Boone and Crockett!
I feel like it is a scaled down version of Hotel Foster- the same vintage decor but a cozier vibe. Â SUPER nice bartender the night we stopped in. Â My husband tried one of their craft cocktails and loved it. Â I, on the other hand, had to partake in a Mocktail since I am prego. Â The bartender mixed me up something delicious with muddled blackberries paired along with refreshing spritzer. Â
We made our way our to the patio when a group of loud bachelorettes came in and found serenity out there. Â What a nice space! Â Love the white lights and laid back atmosphere.
Also: Â They have block ice! Yesssssssssss
As a huge fan of Hotel Foster, I had to check out their new sister bar in bayview. While I love Foster because its huge and social, Boone and Crocket was cozier and quieter, which made my post dinner cocktail all the more enjoyable. Â I had a specialty blackberry fizz style drink which was delicious. The bartenders are incredibly friendly and seemed to recognize me from the east side, which I really appreciate. The hunting/western style theme is really fun and makes for a unique atmosphere. Definitely recommend it!
Review Source:Oh, B&C I totally love you. Great drinks and friendly bartenders. I tried a gin bramble and then I had another.
The decor is classy, masculine, and rustic - chandeliers, phonograph lampshades, taxidermied deer, and vintage furniture.
I'll definitely be back and look forward to their changing, seasonally inspired drinks!
Can I get a hell yes?
HELL YES!
Great addition to Bayview, and walkable to me! Huzzah! Or wait maybe that's bad? For my liver? Ah well, if my liver hasn't died yet, then it's a lot stronger than I thought.
This is a nice cozy counterpart to the bigger, wilder Hotel Foster. Fantastic patio. This is going to a fun summer place!
