I'm not in Plano like ever, but was here during a Dart Rail pub crawl. Â We just came for a drink and it was a cool place to hang out. Â The Rangers were playing and there are a bunch of TV's to watch the game, and they had the sound on. Â Booze was cheap, and they have open seating all the time, it appears. Â Had a lovely waiter who took care of our big party without any problems and split checks like a pro. Â This would be a great place to catch a game, grab some grub and drinks.
Review Source:I have become a regular, now. I still love Brix, but I have found some items to be better than others, of course. I mainly stick to the lunch specials but I have split some of the larger meals with someone. The music is still consistently good (Stone Temple Pilots today!) and the service just gets better. Farley and Jules are wonderful and always attentive. I noticed they are currently in the running for Best All Around Restaurant on the Plano Profile. They got my vote!
Review Source:It's been a while since I've reviewed anything. Â Mostly because I've learned the truth about Yelp. Â Pay the bill and your bad reviews go away. Â Capitalism at it's finest. Â Go money!
That being said, going to go forward....
Brix is the very definition of what is wrong with a place to eat today. Â Why? Â Read on...
Drinks...2 out of 5. Â The Perfect Martini is good, but when I'm served a $51 bottle of Pino Noir that has a screw cap and smells like "New Car Smell" (Which three kids under 15 also smelled coming from the glass) I have to question their "Reserved Wine" list.
Our menu for the the night....
- Lobster and Crawfish Bisque
It had a flavor....which was unique for anything we ate there. Â It tasted of bread which means that they made a bisque from a roux. Â You don't make a bisque from a roux. Â You make it from a fortified stock, blended with cream. Â It tasted more like bread than lobster or crawfish. Â Bad start.
- Crabcake Sliders
When the kids point out that they tasted like crab cakes from a frozen bag without prompting, it's a sign of bad things to come. Â They were overwhelmed by the condiments and were less than a centimeter thin when it comes to the crab. Â Underwhelming is the word for these.
- Kids Quesadillas
Most kids wouldn't comment, but I have a food nerd for a 8-year old. Â She found these so bland that she took two bites and said something was wrong with them. Â What was wrong was cheap cheese in 4 tortillas with no spices. Â Blech.
- White Trash Burger
The burgers here are the definition of the Cardinal Sin of burger.  Bland meat that relies on the toppings to save it.  Nobody asked how we wanted our burgers cooked.  It was assumed that Medium Well was  OK.  Then the meat was completely bland.  The burger relied on the cheese, fried egg, buffalo sauce (which missed your mouth as well) and jalapenos to carry the flavor.  A cardinal rule of cooking is that when you combine something that is bland (the meat) with something that has flavor (the toppings) you get something bland.  What a waste of a perfectly innocent egg for lack of flavor to the meat! It's sad when a crappy beer is the highlight of this order.
- Bleu Cheese Burger
Same issue here as the White Trash Burger. Â Bland meat cannot be redeemed by blue cheese and bacon. Â The consensus was that the bacon was good but the burger had no flavor.
- Lamb Gyro
The entire entree was OK, but would have preferred a carnival gyro that had actual flavor. Â The meat and sauce were bland and relied on the rest to bring flavor. Â Weak.
- Chicken Bacon and Waffles
The most disappointing of all of the above. Â My 10 year old son summed it up as "Soul Food without any Soul." Â I couldn't agree more. Â The chicken was bland. Â If the waffles had any bacon flavor it was overpowered by the forest of fried sweet potatoes covering the entire dish. Â The only flavor there was the Maple Syrup....and it didn't even meet the description on the menu. Â Three bites and he was done. Â Sad for a 10 year old Fowlophite.
I would recommend coming here for a mixed drink during Happy Hour and going elsewhere for food. Â I give this place another 6 months before it's gone....and good riddance.
This place gave me the honor and privilege of trying out the best burger I have ever had in my life. I could feel my chest hairs growing out with every single bite. These burgers will give you an orgasm in your mouth, juicy and full of flavor. I can't say much more about this place besides you need to go hurry up and try one!
Review Source:I had the gyro and my wife had the nachos. Both were pretty good. Not AMAZING, but still good. Service was quick and attentive, even for it being a fairly busy evening. One drawback was the restroom - it's only one person at a time and if you find yourself waiting for someone to exit, you're going to be in the way of all the servers, as the restrooms are RIGHT next to the kitchen and the To-Go area.
If I find myself back in East Plano, I'll stop in again for sure. Good place to hang out, watch a game, have some decently priced beers, and some good food. However, I won't go out of my way from far West Plano, near The Colony.
Been here three Sundays now to watch NFL. In addition to a creative and awesome menu, they have the Sunday Ticket. So far we've had the wasabi guacamole, queso blanco with beef chorizo, chicken nachos, Brix cheeseburger, Gyro, and as I type, we are getting ready to try the garlic chorizo meatloaf sandwich. We found this place while hoping to watch the Packers and now it's turned into one of our favorites in downtown Plano!!
Review Source:The husband and I have been to Brix a few times now for lunch while catching the game and have been pleased with each visit. Â The restaurant is casual with exposed brick and darker woods and ample seating including booths. Â There are a fair number of TV's around and the staff has always been more than happy to change the channel to "our" game if need be. Â Service is friendly and there has been a manager visibly present (and checking in on things) every time we've been there.
The food is great - certainly a giant step up from your average "casual bar". Â The menu has some interesting options beyond what you would normally expect to see at a place like this like potato chips with truffle oil and chorizo meatloaf. Â The first time we visited, we tried a cup of the lobster and crawfish bisque which was good and very flavorful especially if you don't mind a bit of spice. Â Of the sandwiches that we've tried, the steak and portobello one and the vegetarian melt have stood out, but everything has been very good and well prepared. Â The fries that come with the sandwiches are particularly addicting!! Â The beer selection is quite good as well and they offer several a few specials throughout the week including Sundays.
I would easily recommend Brix as a great place to relax while enjoying some good food (and maybe catch the game). Â We will certainly be back.
Last night the hubster and I went looking for a laid-back place to watch the Thursday night game. We'd seen Brix but hadn't been in yet. Man, were we missing out! These guys have successfully created a trendy dive atmosphere, where the "bar food" was top notch. I'm having a hard time even calling it bar food! Here's what we ordered:
To start:
Wasabi Guacamole - I know...it sounded weird to me too, but I'm always looking for new things to try. This guac was DELICIOUS! It had just a touch of wasabi flavor and spice which added to the overall flavor of the guac. Just when I thought my favorite appetizer couldn't be improved on...well, I stand corrected!
I ordered the blackened tilapia fettuccine - SO delicious and came with a very generous portion of shrimp and crawfish. The dish was full of flavor and presented beautifully. I loved it! It also came with some garlic bread that was to die for.
The hubby ordered the green chile lasagna. Oh Em Gee, this plate was HUGE and so effing delicious! I'm not gonna lie, even though mine was good, I had a little bit of order envy, for sure. This lasagna tasted like an elevated King Ranch casserole. It had a TON of shredded chicken and green chile. It completely swallowed the lasagna noodles which was ok! Packing this much flavor in a chicken lasagna HAS to be illegal!
Ok...now on the the drinks:
He had their Batch 19 beer, which he loved. He's into the malty beers. Me, not so much. I ordered the house margarita, because the Thursday special is $3 wells! What?! Â Yes, keep those babies coming! The hubster finally got smart and switched to gin and tonics, which were perfectly strong and delicious!
The staff was amazing, quick and friendly, chatting us up and letting us sample of few of their specialty cocktails, and we enjoyed the 3 hours we spent there VERY much!
Needless to say, we will DEFINITELY be back, and since there's a convenient parking garage right next to the restaurant (this is a big deal considering downtown plano has become such a cluster -you know what in the parking department), it may just be our new favorite spot!
I'm confused by all of the 4/5 star ratings.
My wife and I had a date night on Saturday, and after checking out all of the positive reviews on Yelp - I decided that this is where we would have dinner. Apparently we should have made it a lunch visit?
We sat at about 7 on Saturday, and the dining area was wide open, so there was no wait. We were greeted by a very friendly server, who while we were there, was very attentive. (And the only reason I am leaving 3 stars instead of 2.)
We decided to start the order with some drinks and an appetizer.
The drinks were on point - but sadly, the appetizer was bad enough where we decided to stop there, and pursue dinner elsewhere.
We ordered the white queso and chorizo dip trio. The beans in the dip were out of a can, the "white queso" was nothing more than Velveeta with a couple tomatoes and a few slices of "Spanish chorizo" (I have my doubts) and a fire roasted salsa. The salsa was the only thing passable on the appetizer unfortunately. It wasn't awful - but it simply didn't meet up with the par of the decor and ambiance of the restaurant.
After we finished our drinks, we took our leave of Brix and found dinner elsewhere.
We were in Plano for the day and looking for a nice lunch spot. Â We chose Brix Bar & Grill based on the Yelp reviews and were not disappointed. Â The food was delicious, and the service attentive.
My husband ordered the potato chips for an appetizer. Â I'm not usually a fan as I find homemade chips are often overcooked. Â These were excellent. Â Perfectly light and crispy. Â I chose one of the lunch specials: Â 1/2 chicken torta sandwich served with fries and a house salad. Â It was far better than I expected for $6.50. Â My husband had a burger which he enjoyed. Â We will definitely be back next time we are in town!
The hubby and I ventured to check out Brix Bar and Grill this afternoon. Â It was after the lunch rush so it wasn't too crowded.
We ordered the chicken and waffles as an appetizer. Â It was pretty good. Â There were four mini waffles with a mini strip of tempura battered chicken on each waffle. Â Sweet potatoe strips were sprinkled on top of the chicken and waffles.
My husband ordered one of the lunch specials, Â 1/2 greek lamb gyro ($6.50) that came with a house salad and fries. Â I ordered the Brix cheeseburger with bacon that came with an order of fries. Â The cheeseburger was $8.00 and an extra $1.25 for the bacon.
Everything tasted really fresh. Â Nothing fancy just good food.
The total was $30 and some change plus tip. Â We both thought this was very reasonable for the amount and quality of the food.
This is a nice spot. Â Nothing fancy, Â just comfortable.
There's not much parking in front of Brix, but there is plenty of parking in a nearby parking garage.
Went in search of Sunday brunch/lunch in downtown Plano with GF and her mom. Â Had read the 'fake review' comment from Jeremiah S. after reading some of the 5 star reviews, but we tried it anyway. Â The manager was outside changing channels on the many outdoor TVs on the patio and greeted us not even knowing that we were on our way there. Â We just as easily could have been strolling after church.
Let me tell you, the service is awesome!  Our waiter was great, and that same manager came by to check on us several times  He even came to the TV I was watching, hit guide and asked if there was anything else I wanted to see or just stay put on the Jets game.  We voted and got the game we wanted, not that it mattered.  There were viewing angles of nearly every game on at that time in this place, but it was the thought and effort that made us feel welcome.
We all settled on burgers, mine with jalapeño and bacon, and man they weren't kidding.  It's huge, and we all took half of ours home for another meal.  The fries are awesome, thin, crispy and seasoned just right.  Those did not go home, even though we were all full by this point.  We continued to eat until gone!
We'll definitely be back. Â As for the comment Jeremiah S. wrote, I've seen fake comments before. Â I'm not defending the people he quoted in his review, but if you're going to call out something like that at least take the time to go to the place yourself and comment on what matters: food, service and ambiance.
This place has it all!
What a wonderful first experience at Brix Bar and Grill, met the GM, Lee, genuine and excited to be opening in Downtown Plano. Curt had the meatloaf and chorizo sandwich and i had the chicken pesto torta, wonderful! The atmosphere is great and the price point is good as well. Oh and by the way, the keylime pie is scrumptuous! MMMM....mmmmm
Haven't had enough experience to give them 5 stars, but i'm absolutely a fan and will be back!
Really good food, really great prices! Sunday night visit was really quiet around 6 PM, warmly greeted all around by staff.
Had the meatloaf sandwich w/fries ($7.00!) - great meatloaf a mix of chopped sirloin and chorizo with apple wood bacon, cheese, grilled onions and a nice mustard sauce on the side! It was so big I'm having 1/2 for lunch tomorrow because we wanted to try the "real" key lime pie - the best Key Lime pie in Plano and this is coming from a Miami native who has had key lime pie in Key West. Â My husband had the chicken (panko breaded) & waffles (waffles are bacon "infused") with an enormous portion of razor thin sweet potato fries atop each chicken n' waffle and it was really good but very sweet - more of a brunch item with coffee (and it's on the appetizer list but big enough for dinner for two with a side if you wanted to). Our friends had the crabcake (real crab, not imitiation) sliders and a greek salad with tiramasu - both said their meals were really really good too. Had a bite of the tiramasu and it was great too.
Let's not let this new Plano eatery suffer from lack of patrons! This corner has been notoriously bad for other pretty decent establishments that haven't made it. Â Just south of Kelly's on Ave. K. Â You can't miss the red "Brix" awning. It is totally worth a trip and prices so good you'll think you stepped back to 1980 something when you get the bill. This is champagne food with a beer budget! Enjoy!.
Love this place! Â I ordered three appetizers....the wasabi guacamole, the crab cake sliders, and French fries.
The service was great and their drink menu was awesome, I had some raspberry lemonade cocktail that was awesome! Â The food was amazing....MUCH better than what I thought and the guacamole with the wasabi was super fresh an had a great spice to it.....not to mention the salsa that came with it was good too. Â
I have heard the burgers are amazing from friends that have eaten here.....so that is next! Â Overall a GREAT addition to downtown Plano.
OK - day two....just had the burger.....Pha-nom-in-nal.....will make this my regular stop for sure!
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Usually I give new restaurants the benefit of the doubt...but these guys really set the bar! Even after only being open for a few days, everyone was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The food was delicious and they offer great deals on beer. It's a must-try for anyone in the area!
Review Source:I'm a huge fan of Batch 19 (pre prohibition lager), that's what drew me into going to Brix the first time. I remember the assistance manager telling me the food was good; thinking "ok good to hear, whatever). The next day I stopped in for a Batch 19 and ordered a burger. Wow, it's been a really long time since I've had a burger that good! I went back with my wife and we ordered full entrees and were extremely impressed. The ultimate (outside the crazy good Batch 19) is the Brix tiramisu. Perfect balance of light and rich. Did I mention they have Batch 19 (pre prohibition lager)?
Review Source:Near the heart of beautiful downtown Plano, TX is the new (opened July 16, '12) Brix Bar and Grill...almost next to "Kelly's" and "Posh Nosh"...around the corner is the "Urbanrio".
We've been anticipating Brix for some time now and we are very pleased with what they've done to this corner of the Eastside Village, home to the very nice Eastside Apartments.
The interior of Brix is very inviting! Â Very classy! Â It's the perfect place if you need to have a private business meeting or whatever. Â We love the leather high back booths!
We started our meal off with an appetizer of "Wasabi and Guacamole" with chips and salsa! Â Yep! Â It's an amazing combination that you have to try. Â Their salsa and chips are excellent, too.
I'm really impressed with their menu and look forward to trying it all.
My main meal was their Sirloin Meatloaf which was superb!
Leo, the General Manager came by to chat with us and told us a little bit about Brix. Â The owners are the same ones who own "Fuzzy's".
Michelle, our waitress, was outstanding.
We also enjoyed our talk with Michael, who is the "Batch 19" representative...if you like beer, you'll love "Batch 19".
Parking is very limited on the street, but you can park either across the street or behind Brix in the ground floor parking of the Eastside Apartments.
