I'm a pretty non-picky individual when it comes to a night out on the town.. but then again I'm from Baltimore not Fred Vegas. Came to Fred to visit some friends and they took us to Brock's for a good time. My first issue was the fact that there was a $5 cover charge and there were only about 50 people in the entire place. I mean.. there aren't even cover charges in packed Baltimore bars. Meh..But I can say though, that the drinks are far underpriced compared to the big city, so Brocks can be appreciated in that sense.

The Crowd. You'll either find some mad creepers or older individuals chilling out with their hubbies and enjoying the young whipper snappers making fools of themselves. Super friendly crowd, just keep a lookout for that one creep that will literally follow you from one side of the dance floor to the other (no means no, bro). Also important to mention that DJ was kind of a jerk and only plays the music he wants to spin and doesn't really adhere to the crowd. Overall, I'd come back with my Fred friends but it would probably not be my first choice.

My husband and I went here for lunch one day and had a good experience. They weren't busy at all as we were among the first customers after opening. I had the lunch special Roast Beef Sandwich, which consisted of roast beef with pepper jack cheese and a cajun remoulade sauce, served with french fries. I was very happy with my meal and with the service, our waiter was very friendly. My husband had the Tuna Sandwich lunch special which was grilled ahi tuna with swiss cheese and herb mayo on sourdough, also served with fries. He was also very happy with his meal. We'd absolutely go back to Brock's!

This is a great place to meet your friends for happy hour in the Spring and Summer.  Brock's has a large deck that overlooks the Rappahannock River and offers full bar and food service.  A DJ is usually on the deck playing top 40 tunes.  If sitting outside to dine or drink is not your thing, also available are a fancy-schmantzy dining room and a big, noisy bar area with lots of tables.

The service is always good.  I do not have a complaint about the service in my 10 years of patronage.  In fact. Brocks' servers and bartenders are some of my favorite people in downtown Fredericksburg.  They take the time to get to know their returning customers.

The food quality is a little inconsistent based on who is in the kitchen.  Steaks are usually cooked to perfection - but not always.  That makes it a risk for me because the menu is rather pricey.  The menu choices are standard American fare.  A couple of options are available for vegetarians too.  I hear wonderful reviews about the crabcakes, but I have not had them.  The bruschetta and chicken tortilla soup are highly recommended.

Been to Brock's 3 times now and I'l rate each experience on its own,  Brunch was amazing!  Good service and the food was fantastic.  Some interesting choices and all presented nicely.  Felt upscale and the seating areas was nice.  Dinner was also very good.  Not cheap, but not bad for the quality of the food.  Great service as well.  Stopped with friends for a drink at the bar on a Saturday night.  Would not recommend it unless you like it loud, we couldn't even hold a conversation.  Overall a great place and now I know to avoid he bar on a Saturday night.

The food at Brock's is really good. The menu is heavy on steak, chicken, and seafood. Some pasta dishes as well.

I can honestly say that in the 10+ times we have been to Brock's for dinner, myself and my wife have never been disappointed. It has always been good. I typically order one of the steaks, my wife usually sticks with the seafood. The steaks are always excellent cuts with most of the "extra" fat trimmed off. They are flavorful and often paired with an outstanding sauce. The last time I was there I ordered the marinated rib-eye and my wife ordered the salmon special. Both plates were exceptional. My rib-eye (medium rare) was done perfectly and dripping with grilled flavor. In addition we had the bar appetizer - tacos. It was fresh and quite tasty. The meal came with soup or salad and some sides. The Caesar salad was average, the broccoli-cheddar soup a little too watery, but overall - not bad. The asparagus and potato sides that accompanied our dishes were outstanding.

    Service: 4
Service here is simple and done well. The staff is informative and very attentive. They have almost always been able to provide in-depth information and recommendations about the dishes and the drinks served at Brock's. There are a lot of places where the servers either don't know, or recite the description on the menu. Brock's staff seem to know the food. In addition, they check on your regularly.

    Ambiance: 4
There exists two areas at Brock's - the inside seating area and bar and the outside seating area and bar. If you want business casual, get seated in the inside area. It is quiet, relaxed, and casually elegant. The outside seating area is more relaxed, t-shirts and shorts are very much the norm. There is a projection TV and garden lights. Both environments are nice and have tables overlooking the river. To me it is all about your mood.

    Price: 4
Their prices for steaks average in the mid 20's. Most of the other dinner dishes are in the high teens. Appetizers are fairly priced, and drinks are reasonable. Here is the kicker, they have all kinds of specials on drinks and appetizers in the early evening. Take advantage of them, they are good deals, often giving you a 50% discount.

    Overall Value:  4.1
Overall, Brock's gives you excellent food, service, and a choice of environment for a price lower than comparable establishments. If you are like me, you want to get the best deal for your money. Not always the cheapest deal, but the one that gives me the most for the least. Brock's does this. I have never walked away feeling like I overpaid. This is my first choice for dinner in the Fredericksburg area.

Had to be in the 'burg for a thing on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
Ben & Dora invited me to lunch to their fav new neighborhood hang out.

This was a repeat performance and I was hoping it would be as good or better than the first time around...I was not disappointed.

I had the grilled salmon with pasta...it was most excellent.
A really nice size portion worth of a 'go box'.
It comes with a dinner salad and fresh bread.
The only sweet tea they have is Raspberry which is quite good.

We set outside on the deck overlooking the river.
It was a very pleasent experience except the service was somewhat slow.
That can be overlooked since they were quite busy.

We went here a while back and I can't believe this place is still open.  We will NEVER go back!  Service was horrendous, and took FOREVER.  We really wanted to like this place, we had a nice table on the balcony overlooking the river.  When they brought the shrimp coctail you could smell it before he even set it on the table.  And the steak was easily the worst I have ever had, just gross.  They took my steak off the tab, but I'm still pissed at myself for leaving a tip at all.  I should have kept the money to take my wife for McDonalds.

Atmosphere, food, service were excellent. Attention to detail was evident in the preparation and execution. I tried the chef's special, the grouper, my wife had the prime rib, and my daughter had the Cesar salad and lobster bisque. All were prepared promptly and seasoned well.

Got in late on a Friday, and the B&B Innkeeper recommended Brocks. It was a good recommendation. Seems like its an old warehouse converted, but its a nice place. Service was great and Ricky D was a phenomenol waiter. My wife's pasta pomodora was great, and my burger &fries were very good. The shrimp bisque was awesome and the highlight. I would go back again.

Review based on a late Friday night experience.  Interior was nice, DJ and music was good.  Bartender service was cool also...then out in the parking lot were a two groups fighting!  Hood Vs Preppies... I didn't expect this from the "Burg".  I found it funny yet sad that people get stupid over little things in life.

Anyways. I would check this place out again,.

Brock's is the type of restaurant I remember going to with my parents way back when. White tablecloths and raditional menu including steaks, prime rib, pasta and seafood. Everything comes with salad, vegetable and potato.

Two of us ordered the prime rib, one chicken madeira with pasta, and one seared tuna. Everyone enjoyed the food. Service was attentive.

All in all, a very nice meal. Would return!

I was very hungry for lunch this afternoon and while in downtown Fredericksburg I decided to stop by Brock's to check out the food. I ordered the filet mignon medium well with mashed potatoes. I've eaten many filets and know how one should taste. When the food arrived, the steak looked more like a sirloin. When I cut into it I could tell it was not a filet as it was not tender as a filet should be so I questioned the waitress who said it had been butterflied. It had not been but I was extremely hungry and ate it anyway. In general the meal was rather tasteless and overpriced. I'd recommend avoiding Brock's as there are many other restaurants in the area with better tasting food and better prices. I told the manager about my experience and he didn't appear all that interested but listened anyway.

This is on service ... The staff is friendly & attentive! I'm sitting here now; having a bowl of lobster bisque while I wait for the glazed salmon I ordered .... We'll see ..... The bisque is average (I've had better) ... Love the laid back environment & I'm sitting outside on the deck near the river ... Remember the stars for this review is for the service!

I would go back to this restaurant if just for the view off the veranda of the Rappahannock River. The scallops were tough & the salmon was mealy & fishy tasting. The rolls--eh and their special Swiss roll dessert with ice cream just so-so. Would have liked to give a better rating. Next time my hubby & I will try the steak!

Simply phenomenal. Let's start with the food, since that's why you're here. Bacon-wrapped scallops? Check, with a slightly sweet maple glaze that seals the deal. Crab, spinach, and artichoke dip? Double check, and don't forget the perfectly seasoned pita chips that come with it. But the appetizers are overshadowed by the entrees. For example, take the Seafood Carbonara, with our friend bacon making a comeback, and bringing his pals lobster, crab, and shrimp along for the ride. On this delightful Monday, I'm fortunate enough to enjoy the seafood special, a perfectly cooked salmon filet topped with mediterrainean yogurt and partnered with fantastic, flavorful veggies and orzo. Rounding everything out is a delightful bread pudding that completes the meal nicely. But don't overlook the cocktails. A Champagne Paradise or Coffee Martini are excellent selections from among the many drinks offered.

Now, let's talk price. It's cheap. Surprisingly so. An average entree is around $25, and cocktails clock in at about $8, which is great considering the level of quality you're getting.

As far as service goes, our waiter Tony was the man. He was prompt, knowledgable, and friendly. Couldn't ask for more.

Topping it all off is the ambiance. Sit outside on the veranda for a semi-private evening on the riverside, go inside for an elegant restaurant feel, hang out in the bar for a few drinks, schedule a reception in their hall upstairs for a large party, or apparently you can show up on Friday and Saturday nights for a live DJ and an upbeat party atmosphere. They even have cornhole tournaments (someone needs to rename that game). Quite the variety, but from what we've seen, they've got the chops for it. You won't be disappointed by this upscale, unpretentious restaurant.

People actually eat here?  Once again it's one of those things where the reviews don't truly reflect reality. I have lived down the street from here and can say that no locals eat here. Drinks yes...    Just needed to put a review down because the reviews reflect this as a 4 star restaurant. Unless you feel the urge to dance to a DJ on Thurs-Saturday than find another place to feed yo face.  Me ~

The food was really good here for dinner, but the service we received, while adequate, seemed strange.

We felt like we were bothering our waiter, he seemed as though he was assigned our table of 3 and didn't really want to be waiting on us.

Salad was missing the onions and cucumbers as stated on the menu, but he brought us some extra.   We ordered a 6 piece chicken tenders and we got 3.

Also he failed to give us the happy hour menu, then he showed it to us after we had already ordered, since we asked if they had such a menu.

Then we asked if we could change our orders to something off the happy hour menu, and of course was told no.

I don't plan to return here.

When I visit my parents in the burg, the restaurant choices are always limited and let me preface this with saying I am much more used to the higher quality restaurants in DC.

As my mom said "this is retirement home food."  So incredibly bland and boring-learn how to use a salt shaker!  The food offered was the usual mix of steak, chicken and seafood.  It was way overpriced, under seasoned and unmemorable. It reminded me of the kind of bland chicken dinner I get at conferences--only those meals actually taste better.  My dad got something with scallops--they definitely came straight from the freezer.

As for atmosphere--let me just say that the retirement home theme continues.  At least they are consistent.

Unfortunately...I am not classy enough to actually be able to review the food at this restaurant.  What I am classy enough to review is $1.50 bud light drafts, redneck dance party Fridays, and cornhole!  (Excuse me while I polish my hunting rifle and spit out my chewing tobacco).

This is really the only place in Fredericksburg where you can get your freak on.  It's really nice during the summer because there is a deck overlooking the river.  This deck is where all the magic happens!  There is a DJ every Friday and Saturday night who plays all the typical dance songs, which I, of course, will never complain about.  I mean come on, Hot in Herrre never gets old!

The best part about this place is the insanely random assortment of participants in Brock's night life.  No one (other than those classy enough to eat at this restaurant) is immune to the thrill of bumping and grinding to sweet jams like "Cherry Pie" by Warrant or "Boom Boom Pow" by the Black Eyed Peas.

This place really needs to be experienced first hand to understand just how amazingly wonderful and Frednecktastic it is!

Went here for lunch and I was, as always when I go to this restaurant, happy with the food and service. Based on a recommendation from a fellow yelper, I had the blackened prime rib sandwich served with French fries and horseradish (I declined the latter, not a big fan).  I like this restaurant also because it is quiet, warm and welcoming to every wallet. The atmosphere is just great; my server was nice and attentive to my needs, and not to mention cute as an angel.

    Definitely recommend this restaurant.

This is a very charming restaurant located in downtown Fredericksburg tucked between the train station and the river.  While the ambience is casual and inviting, the food can at times be elegant.  I think that is what makes this place a gem.

Today I was having lunch with my mother.  I opted for the prime rib sandwich which is served open face style with a side of horseradish sauce.  The portion was very generous, and the quality of the meat was very good.  This proved to be a very delicious sandwich.  The only thing that could have been better was if the horseradish had a more pronounced taste -- I felt as though the natural intensity of the horseradish had been muted quite a bit.  The sandwich was served with fries that were just slightly crisp -- perfect.

For dessert, my mother opted for the Brock's "Ho-Ho".  This was a very whimsical selection -- indeed, it was a very large Ho-Ho served over vanilla ice cream and top with fresh mint.  The Ho-Ho was chocolate cake rolled with fresh mascarpone.  My mother deemed the portion much too large, and insisted that I aid her, so I managed to have quite a bit of this.  It was very delicious, but the only slight was that the chocolate cake was not especially moist.  Also, I was surprised to learn that all but one of the dessert selections are prepared in-house -- how refreshing!

The service was excellent.  There are even a few tables on the balcony affording a view of the river.  Additionally they have a fully stocked bar which is good for visiting late night, as well as a separate private room off of the main dining room good for hosting events.

For dinner, I can highly recommend the seared ahi tuna and the southwestern egg rolls.  I was very impressed on my last visit with the attention to quality given to these two selections.

Highly recommend this place if you are in the area.
