Brother Tuckers is a place you go to when you just want to get away from common bar folk or just civilization in general. Not that it's empty inside, but when you're there you don't feel like you're in Pompano anymore. Not that anyone would want to feel like they're in Pompano, but you totally get a Belgium bar vibe the moment you step in.
It's like a head shop with Belgium beer. The staff is very friendly and you can enjoy your expensive beer without all those obnoxious people you'll find at those industrial warehouse bars. This is the epitome of a dive bar. No loud hacky band playing. No need to ask for elbow room. The bar/restaurant does the job. It's really a unique experience for any beer lover, especially those who fiend for the Trappist stuff.
As mentioned in other reviews, the prices are pretty outrageous. It's to be expected for many of the strong ales though, but to give you an idea they're about 2-3x the price of what you'd pay for them at a Total Wine. Again, you're in a bar, a Belgium bar so enjoy it and sip slow.
Whenever I need a break from the Funky or the other Worlds out there, this is going to be the place I go. Great selection of brews, attentive and informative staff and just fun times.
In the ever growing craft beer scene in South Florida Brother Tucker's often flies under the radar to most beer lovers. Â They aren't out there doing guerrilla advertising like WOB and they don't have 50 something taps. Â What they have is character, good beer, great food and excellent staff.
On Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano, almost at the beach you have to park behind the building. Â At this point you have two options; walk around to the front entrance or walk right in the back through the kitchen. Â No you didn't read that wrong. Â Entering and exiting through the kitchen is actually encouraged because they know you are likely parked right back there. Â So they don't want you to walk any further than you have to. Â Already they are looking out for you.
Once in the dining room you have a small space that reminds me of an old Italian restaurant. Â I sometimes expect to see a group of Mafioso types sitting at a table in the corner. Â There are a few tables outside along the front and a small bar that can sit 4 - 6.
There is usually 6 rotating beers on draft from all over the world. Â BT's prides themselves on their Belgian selection so you will typically see a couple of them on tap with German, English and American selections too. Â They also have an extensive bottle selection as well.
The food is really the gem of this place though and many wouldn't even think it. Â Huge portions are the key here. Â I typically get the Burgatory, a burger with hot sauce, pepper jack cheese and hot peppers. Â The meatballs are delicious as well and again, gigantic. Â You might look at the prices and think they are somewhat expensive but when you see your dish you will understand why.
They service is top notch. Â Ian, the bar manager, is a wonderful human being. Â He knows his beer so if you are unsure what to get don't hesitate to ask him and he will help guide you to a choice.
More people need to know about Brother Tuckers. Â When the beer community thinks of they usual suspects for beer bars this one is really a unique and must visit place.
I stumbled onto this place, literally (the sidewalk in front was ripped up, hopefully the city has finished the construction by now)...and I'm so glad I did! Â What a charming little joint! I love the tongue-in-cheek name, and the sacred/profane pseudo-religious humor runs through the whole menu. Â Definitely the best place in this area for craft beers. It's pretty expensive stuff, but very worth it. Â I also had a tomatillo-mango-black bean soup that was out of this world. Â Can't wait to go back next time I'm in Pompano. Â Check it out!
Review Source:If you believe that beer is meant to taste great, and you understand that greatness is not typically "cheap," this place is for you.
My experience at Brother Tuckers was amazing! From the outside you would never know it... Little hole in the wall, but once you step inside and see the Duchesse De Bourgogne poster on the wall, the chalk sign, and the comfortable ambiance, you just know this is going to be great! It was Friday night, and a date night. The place is small and cozy. There was a TV on a wall in the back corner, but it was not obtrusive. The crowd was happy and plentiful, but we found a seat right away.
The hummus plate was delicious, and the turkey meatballs were very good, too... Portions were incredible! I went with my partner in foodie crime, and we were unable to finish the last meatball! Next time I want to try the burger, among other things! The food menu is small, and not overwhelming, but everything looks interesting and original!
Now to the real reason we came: BEER.
The selection of Belgian beers was fantastic! Our server was patient, friendly and knowledgable. I started with the Hofbrau dunkel, which was terrific. We requested recommendations, and were not disappointed. The Trappistes Rochefort  and Scotch Silly were amazing, and worth every penny.
I am a firm believer that if it is not awesome, why waste time and money? This place is awesome. My only wish is that this place was not so far... Despite this, I will be back.
So, here's the deal with BT's as we call it (in my house), it is exactly what would NOT expect from the road. Â Driving by on Atlantic, it is surrounded by typical Pompano (The Pompton) retail fare that you would pass it by without a second thought. Â
However, if the quaint porch lamp is lit, you know BT's is open. Â When you enter, you'll be greeted by a small pub room, dimly lit, specials written in chalk at the entrance, and a room full of interesting and eclectic people. Â
The beer options are many and the food options are amazing. Â I always have the humus plate. Â It comes with pickled turnips of all things. Â Trust me. Â They're great. Â You can just tell the food was prepared by someone who really loves to cook and who really loves food. Â It's never phoned-in, as they say.
You gotta try it. Â Don't pass on the food. Â Everything is good.
Hard to find if you are not looking for it. Tip: Park in the back and enter through the kitchen. We love Brother Tuckers. The beer selection is awesome and the food is a HUGE step up from normal bar food. Â The owner, Ian, is very friendly and knowledgeable about beer. Â This is a much needed gem in the neighborhood.
Review Source:Seriously this place is a hole in the wall with expensive bottle beers and microwaveable food. The $13 meatballs in Ragu sauce is a joke. They need to invest in something that sets them apart...if you LOVE beer so much like your t-shirts say then why not brew your own an get rid of that chef!
Review Source:For the locals Brother Tucks is great, by default it's the best bar in Pompano Beach, but for those who drive by and pass up WOB, YH, Bier Garten, Funky Buddha, or Brickyard Brewery just to come check this out, you need to know those are all places that are either better or close to the same level, but this place does have it's own uniqueness that is worth checking.
From the outside it looks like the rest of Pompano, old and dirty and nothing you want a part of, but inside it's clean & exactly what a Belgium beer bar should look like: brick walls, low lighting, monk beer posters, intimate, and just all about beer. There is one nice TV in there to catch a game.
The food menu is more interesting and better quality than normal bar food, and they have daily specials, but it's crazy over priced
The turkey meatballs were real good as advertised, they were pretty big and tasted like they had cheese inside, very flavorful and came with this great cheesy bread and hot peppers. It's not like this is an Italian restaurant so I wasn't surprised, but the sauce with the meatballs tasted a bit Prego-ish, and because of this I'm still fence sitting on whether I'd order these again.
They're only open Wednesday - Saturday with kitchen closing at 10
Very chill spot but pricy for sure, you'll get a quick buzz from the strong beers but don't fall into their expensive beer munchies trap or you'll end up in a financial hole.
for beer 4stars, for food 3
A friend took us here when we were in town and we're glad they did. Â Don't let the outer exterior fool you, this place's food could easily compete with if not beat many fancy restaurants. Â The beer selection is amazing and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Â My wife had the meatballs and I had the burrito. Â I'm mad I didn't get the meatballs, they are by FAR the best meatballs we've ever had in our life. Â The burrito was huge and full of pulled pork.
The hummus was great, I think it was some kind of jalapeno hummus or something, all I remember is that it was good. Â Next time we're in town we'll be sure to stop in here for at least one meal if not more!
We were looking for a place to have a beer with friends on Friday night. We took a peek inside at it looked more like a dinner place so after reading some reviews we tried it again last night for dinner.
The folks at Brothers will tell you they are a beer place. Heck, the menu even says that the food is an afterthought. I assure you. It's not. I had the turkey meatballs because all the reviews RAVE about them - as well they should. Delish! My hubby had the special fish tacos and they were really good too.
We were also really happy to find a Dogfish Head 75 min IPA and some Magic Hat on tap. We enjoyed them.
I also felt like this was truly a locals spot. The servers were so helpful. Even the diners were nice. We all helped a couple from the Midwest figure out where to eat and drink while on vacation. And shared a recipe with another table on the way out.
Brothers is a simple place with great beer and not a lot of fanfare. It's not the place to "see and be seen". Â It's a really refreshing South Florida spot If you're looking for place where you can be comfortable while enjoying great beer and good food then this is the spot!
Great place for beer. This is one of my favorite places in pompano area. Has a smaller menu (which i like), the turkey meatballs are fantastic and the jerk chicken tacos are great if your looking for something with a kick. Ask they bar tender what to have, they always have new beers and hard to find ones in stock. He'll make sure you get the best one to go with your meal.
Review Source:What a surprise! It don't look like much and you may be overwhelmed by the beer list but, damn this place is good. You won't believe the beer this place has, some are a little pricey, but we had a good time going down the list each time we ordered. What is even more amazing is the food. Really didn't expect it. You get the feeling it's a beer joint that just happens to have food. True! But the food is so damn good. The turkey meatballs alone will have you coming back.
Review Source:Its more like a 4 and a half , close to being perfect.
First and foremost , They have just about the most beer knowledge of any bar I have been to, thats not knocking any of the other bars I frequent ,its just that they are that good.If you are not sure what to get they make recommendations that are spot on.They are really passionate about what they serve and its funny that I read someones review about them ( was where they commented how good the owner/waiter was ) and its the same assumption I made that some one who is so into what they  do  that they have to be the owner . Big ups to Ian , who I thought was the owner my 1st time there.
2. The food is A  Maze  ing!!!!!! Everything i have eaten here is top notch ,Great burgers , Turkey meatballs melt in your mouth, awesome pasta salad, only bad part is they stopped doing specials which were crazy good, exciting and a delight to your taste buds.
3. really good selection of Belgian beers which happen to be my faves. this is where they lose that half a star though...Their prices for beer are a little on the high side and its hard to complain (you do have to pay for quality) but It hurts your wallet a little getting a $100 check for 2 dinners and 2 beers each ...ok maybe 3 beers each.....ok 4 ,but just for me  .
Do yourself a favor , go check out Bro tucks.
This place is actually quite amazing, to say the least.
The owner/waiter really knew his beers and made excellent recommendations based on what each person in our group liked.
The food was awesome as well. Â We had the spanish paella soup, fish tacos and the tortured soul nachos. Â All of it left us ready for more, except that we were so full from the amazing beer.
Would definitely recommend and will absolutely be going back...very soon!
Good Beer Selection.
Food is Ok at best.
Service, well here is where it Sucks!
Took a seat at a table. Place was sort of full.
Decided to grab a bite.. Menu looked decent
Ordered a beer and a water. Nope dont have Bottled water.
A little while later got The Beer that was ordered.
Food came out. Guess the cook was in a rush to close.
Kinda Bla. Â But when your hungry it will do.
Asked waitress this time for a bottle or glass of water.

        End of Story!
I found Brother Tuckers to be a gem of a little, sort of hole in the all place. The theme of the place is clearly that of a Belgium Bistro, and it certainly measures up to being just that. The assortment of beer and ales are total and complete. The service is good and I found the food, which is basically a bistro type of food, to be superbly prepared and, for the most part, what I would actually expect in a Belgium bistro. Though the menu is not that extensive it is well rounded, thought out and organized.
It's a great place, generally free of tourists, to have a good meal and pleasant conversation. Because it is small, something like only 9 or 10 tables and about six bar seats, it doesn't get too noisy; at least it hasn't been at the times I have been there.
The meal with Belgium beer seems a little pricey at first but thinking about what they are serving, the cost and quality of a Belgium beer as opposed to what is served elsewhere, it is actually very reasonable.
It's really very nice to have a place like Bother Tuckers on the beachside.
Two words: Who knew??
I'm originally from SoFla and came back to visit earlier this month. One of my friends suggested this place for dinner and I had to a search of what it was (on the Yelp of course) to see what it was about. This joint is cozy with about seven to eight tables. However to counter that, their beer selection makes up for the lack of seating. Their menu isn't too extensive but just enough items for you to make up your mind and feel confident about your decision. Wait staff was helpful and didn't check back too often that you got the vibe they were trying to turn the table.
I liked the funkiness of having to walk through the kitchen to enter the dining area or you could be normal and walk through the front door right off Atlantic. I imagine this would be a good place for a date, intimate, dark and full of beer!
This place takes pride in its beer. Searching for good "Beer Joints," I Yelped and this establishment showed up at the top of the list. Some of my co-workers (who like trying different types of beer) and I ventured here on a Friday after work.
I ordered a couple of German Beers, Tucher Bräu and Weihenstephan Beer, which were both on tap. Nice! They have a large assortment of domestic and imported beers, some of which are simply hard to find elsewhere.
I noticed that other reviewers classified this place as a "dive" bar, and while that may be a fair assessment, I would also add that it's a trendy little place with a jukebox, where you can enjoy good beer and good conversation.
The food menu is very diverse and it is my understanding that they change the menu frequently. You can't really classify the menu. However, they do serve the food in very large portions. When at a beer joint, I love spicy foods, and so I ordered a chicken burrito with black beans and rice. It was good and dare I say ... slightly above average?
It's a good place to begin the evening. The staff was very friendly and the service was solid. We explained that we had Yelped this place and that we were first-timers. We parked in the back parking lot and the friendly waitress pointed out that we could cut through the back hallway instead of walking all the way around a series of buildings. Good tip for our next visit ... and there will be a next visit.
Overpriced and underwhelmed :
I've heard alot of good things but here's my take :
I tried to come here at  least three times but they were always closed. So I recommend calling to see if they are actually open.
The staff does a good job and that's about the only good thing about this place.
The beer : being a beer centric place I would have expected appropriate glassware, but ended up getting a very wide, mason jar - esque super sized chilled mug straight from the freezer with ice attatched. Scuse, but I didn't order ice with my beer ? And for that matter, 7.50 for a pint of stone pale ale ? No thanks.
This place does their food better than their beer, but for that matter a sandwich and side salad didn't find worth the value.
I will not be back. There are better places for better prices.
What can I say, I have a slight buzz while I am posting this.
I had just ventured out on a GREAT vacation for my 30th birthday which included countries such as Belgium, Czech and Germany and I finally learned what good bear tasted like.
I've been going to beer marts and other things to sample and see what I like. Â So I finally gained some decent beer knowledge and from other reviews I decided to stroll into here.
What can I say - they are extremely knowledgeable about their beers and went as bar to have a book to help me learn about the beers and tastes I liked. Â Dare I say they held my hand to help me understand my tastes but I was most pleased and buzzed with what I learned.
I do have to give this place a full 5-stars and I am lucky that this place is within biking distance to where I live because I see myself coming here more often. Â It is a hidden gem and you wouldn't think twice driving past it but I was DELIGHTED to know that it was so close to my vacation home.
A+++++ Will do service with again :)
Found this place using Yelp. We walked by it more than once not even noticing it. The inside has very hole in the wall feel and is pretty small.
The food was pretty good (huge portions) but the beer selection was amazing. The beer menu was easily four times the size of the food menu, which is fine by me. They has a great Hefeweiss on tap when I went there and even a few Trappist ales. I'd definitely stop by again for a drink!
I just recently moved to S. Florida and was googling for some places with good beer in the area and I came across this restaurant on yelp. Â I was stoked to visit Brother Tuckers after the first few reviews I read.
We drove past it like 4 times because it's really hard to see, so if you do decide to visit, keep your eyes peeled! Â That didn't bother us though, we love a good chase. Â
The beer selection was good only if you like Belgian beers.  This place specializes in belgian beer, nothing else.  Apparently, Belgians brew their beers with more sugar than most, so I found the two I tried to be more like dessert and less like what I was looking for.  They were also all really expensive, which  I have found at other places as well with Belgian beers.
Onto the food. Â The food menu was EXPENSIVE. Â Even the nachos were over 10 bucks which I found to be way too spendy. Â I got a Jamaican Rum fish sandwich, which was decent at first but a little fishy. Â On the side, I got their pasta salad. Â It was PHENOMENAL! Â If there was ever a reason to go back, it would be for that and nothing else.
All in all, I was disappointed with the place, and for just my boyfriend and I, who usually run up a tab of a maximum of $50 bucks (and we are big drinkers), this place cost us $70. Â And I didn't feel it was well spent.
Another low key spot that only locals know about.. An absolutely great find - especially for beer lovers! The location is not great but the interior is actually very nice; pub style.. They don't have the biggest food variety but everything on the menu is rather tasty!
My recommendations are: Holy Smokes dish which is a colorful dish of smoked salmon, grilled portobello mushroom, goat cheese & chicken/apple sausage.. Quite fun to eat as you can mix & match..
Their tuna sandwich & BBQ pork sandwich both are delish!
Only thing is - this place is closed on on weekdays!
I use Yelp all the time to find hidden gems, but I had my doubts on this one. Could a hole-in-the-wall gastropub actually live up to the five-star billing?
Once I actually found it - it's sort of hidden in the strip center by a few other places with bigger signs - I walked into what seemed like someone's dining room. The waitstaff acted as if it was their own place.
These people know their beers. My waitress shared that she was about to move to Austin, TX to work for a beer co-op. She was passionate about it and had great suggestions. Being the summer, I was in the mood for a hefeweizen and they had a Weihenstephaner on draft. This is considered one of the greatest beers in the world and is hard to find, but they had it on draft. Â It was easily worth the $7.50 (the standard price for most 20 oz drafts and 16.9 oz bottles) and was served in a chilled glass made specifically to enjoy it. Â I had a second as well.
I went with the turkey meatballs in a sweet marinara sauce and they were very good. Â It was simple homecooked food that you could tell they actually cared about. Â Though the menu is limited, they have quite a few daily specials that apparently depend on what they find at the market that morning. Â I had a green chile soup that was not on the menu that was very good.
I went on a Friday and there was a decent crowd, but still plenty of room. Â It's not a high brow place. Â Everybody was very down to earth and more than willing to explain all the different beers to you. Â I saw several other tables with quite a few questions and all looked satisfied when they received their glasses. Â This might be my new favorite place in South Florida.
You know you like a place when you buy a T-Shirt to the establishment on your first visit:) This is the mom and pop version of The World of Beer. A unique Beer Joint with great service ( thanks Ian), good jukebox, and an interesting food menu.
I had several Export 33 beers from Vietnam. Tasty beer served with a chilled glass, pure heaven.
Now I didn't eat because I had dinner plans, but the menu looked very intriguing. I saw some people eating, but I couldn't get a peek at how the food was presented without looking like I was some sort of Stalker. lol. One item that caught my eye was the Burg-A-Tory. $14 gets you a seasoned beef patty or chicken breast char grilled topped with jalapeno slices splashed with hot sauce and warmed underneath melted pepper jack cheese served on " our daily bread" topped with a spicy salsa. To me this F'ing thing sounds awesome. I love heat and my server, Ian said the food portions are big enough to share. That burger will be on my wish list next time I roll to this Belgian Beer Cafe.
There isn't much to Brother Tuckers (see pic), but I like the vibe and if I lived closer I know I would be a regular. Remember to tell them Dan sent you and Stay Hungry!
I was expecting the normal sports bar atmosphere that is so prevalent in South Florida - instead it was much closer to an indoor bier garden.
The selection of beers was phenomenal - another rarity for South Florida. I had an absolutely delicious Southern Tier Mokah Stout that made my night.
Our server couldn't have been nicer and when we told him we just needed something to snack on. Despite arriving late and being told the kitchen was running low on food, he brought a huge plate of nachos covered in chili, tomatoes, lettuce, jalapenos, and cheese. Nothing fancy, but really tasty and the toppings all tasted very fresh - not canned. We cleaned the plate.
A common problem in bars down here is that it's overly smoky and the shitty music is too loud - not at Brother Tuckers. No smoking inside and the music selection was as pleasurable as it was eclectic...from Meatloaf to Modest Mouse to RATM...and never too loud to hear the rest of our table talking in normal tones.
I understand why all the reviews so far are five stars. I'll be making plenty of return visits here.
How often can you find a place on yelp that has so many reviews ALL with FIVE STARS?!?!!?
This place totally deserves it!
The staff is great and the food is awesome (seriously, really good), I had homemade turkey meatballs on red sauce with this delicious crispy panini bread that had melted cheese on it. Seriously, here.
I know I'm forgetting something... Oh yea, the CRAP LOAD of beer they carry!!! If you're a beer buff, then you will love the tons of beer they have from all over the world.
By the way, this place is not that big and I went last Friday night for the first time and it wasn't busy at all. Weird, if I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, I would be there every weekend!
So, right now I'm probably doing them a favor by telling you all about this and I'm going to hate myself for this because I hate crowded places. You know what, I changed my mind, DON'T GO! They have one beer (bud light) and one meatball (soy). I want this place to myself!
This place is amazing! I found it on Yelp! a few months ago and it has become my Saturday night spot. The beer selection is awesome and the food...Unreal!
I read all previous reviews and I must say, this place deserves a 5 star rating!
Try the turkey meatballs with sweet marinara sauce and a glass of IPA. It will NOT disappoint you!
My brother from another mother! you know whats up!!
a lil intimidating at first bc they don't have a typical bar set up, but tables u sit at and enjoy your brews with the company you keep. the servers/bartenders are very knowledgeable and passionate about their beers...great selections to venture out and try new tastes....wish they had some little snacks or apps you could order to munch on with your beers...def will be back
The reviews of this place were awesome, so I told my husband we had to try it (I didn't have to do a lot of convincing-it is a beer cafe after all)! Â We were given samples of the draft beers to try, since neither of us knew what we wanted. Â We both went with Golden Pheasant, which is a Czech beer--awesome! Â All of their draft beers are served in their own type of mug-which again, awesome! Â We were both there to eat, since the food was rated well too. Â My husband went with the burger-which I have to say was damn good. Â I went with the pizza-which had clams on it--very tasty. Â Very good bar food. Â We both loved the atmosphere of Brother Tuckers. Â Definitely not a tourist hangout! Â Can't wait to go back and try the other offerings!
Review Source:Amazing. You don't need the details, just go and eat and be the happiest food can make you. Ok, the details: we had two of the specials, a tuna sandwich that was better than any tuna I've ever had and meatloaf that my husband described as better than you could ever imagine meatloaf to be. The bun was perfect, the pasta salad was perfect, the mashed potatoes were perfect, the baby asparagus was perfect, even the pickle was perfect.
Oh, and the beer selection was mind boggling (4 bizarre selections on tap and a whole buncha interesting bottles I can't pronounce).
Thank you Brother T for offering up such quality and knowledge of beer!  What a gem amongst a sea of bland tasting sports bars that dominate the scene.  Excellent beers and Ian who co owns and runs the place is happy to tell you everything about anything on the menu!  And the food is actually pretty fantastic!  Their daily specials are usually the best on the  menu. Â
I agree that the atmosphere isn't all it can be, perhaps they should open up the space an incorporate they're little outdoor area? Â Either way if you're a serious beer connoisseur this is the place for you. Â They even carry.....omg......Gluten Free Beer!!!!!!!!
This place is a strange little Jem, usually half full and not much for atmosphere.
But MAN they can cook! And the beer selection is off the wall. Â MUST for Beer buffs, there are hundreds of import bottles to try and about 6 draft specials to select from. And a draft beer will only run you $6-$7
I can't really describe the food except to say it's comfort dishes that had a flavor nuke dropped on them. Corny, I know, but you have to taste to understand. It's all good, so try anything.
this place just simply rulz... becoming my favorite beer cafe in broward.
it all began one evening when my boyf and i finally went to check it out after passing it on atlantic the past few months, saying "i wonder what that place is like?!" "i bet its awesome!"
and awesome it is.
don't let the little to zero crowd fool you.
or the fact that they have the one TV tuned to the latest sports playoffs.
just dig...
cozy up to a table of your liking in the dimly lit brown/yellow light, giggle at the fake brick and artistic paintings (teehee) and examine the healthy beer list scribbled in chalk above the half-mirrored wall or printed on their menu.
ask about their on tap too!
talk to the bartender if you have no clue!
buy some tunes on the juke!
drink 3 strong ones and wish you had a ride home!
seriously, a magical little bar with a friendly crew and the best of european beers for youuuu....
(they sell t-shirts) !
(open thursday through sunday, 3 pm to close)
