I have been feeling pretty blue lately, not "put that girl on suicide watch," but just not my normal bubblelicious self . Today I decided to self-medicate with one of my all-time faves: the taco.
To be honest, I really wanted BC Tacos food truck, sorry Moes. Lucky for you though, BC Tacos was not parked at their usual spot on Cypress and Powerline, and so I settled for what is not stellar but still decent, and at least hits the spot. And that pretty much sums up Moe's. It's alright, nothing that will blow you away or have your mouth watering in anticipation, but if you have a hankering for a taco, burrito, or any other imitation Mexican type food, Moe's will satisfy your craving.
This location is very clean and sunny which is nice and while I was in here, I saw them replace multiple toppings before they got to the bottom which is grand. The employees moved quickly and I was in and out before I even had time to sum up the weight watchers points my chicken funky meister was banking me. FYI for those who have never been to a Moes, Funky Meister was the name of my taco; they have really stupid names for their menu items that just make you feel ridiculous when you order.
Also, they gave me a huge serving of chips. Chips come standard as a side, even when you order just a singular $3.00 taco, and they really don't skimp and give you a nice big serving here.
Overall, Moe's should probably not be your first choice for "Mexican" fare in the area since both the delicious The Whole Enchilada  as well as BC Tacos (when they are there!) are down the road, but if price is what you are picking based off of, Moes is probably the most inexpesive and best bang for your buck (minus Tijuana Flats on Tuesday).
So happy this Moe's opened! I love Moe's, and I've been a fan ever since they started popping up a decade or so ago. Some locations are better than others though.
I always get the same thing:
Homewrecker burrito-with extra guac and the chips with the free green salsa (and that awesome spicy sauce to put on my burrito). Addicted!!
As was the case with fellow Yelper, Tom D., I was not impressed.
Moe's is kind of a goofy wannabe or try to be nifty, an in and with it place, but totally falls short. I got tired of the staff continuously screaming out "Welcome to Moe's," and as for décor, unless you enjoy looking at pictures of dead, long gone, passé and now today rather irrelevant former rock stars like Michael Jackson or John Lennon, it's the blahs.
I did enjoy the flavor and freshness of their salsas but that was about it. Most other chain taco places, with the possible exception of Taco Bell of course, would seem to be better choices.
I thought that for the price, my tacos would have been better and to use a solid spoon with fluid draining slots to dish black beans onto a crispy taco shell with the resultant end being little more than a soggy mess seems to me to be rather unforgivable.
