Hickory Sticks Bbq

I've passed by here and never thought of trying it until looking at some of the Yelp reviews. I got the Baby Back Ribs, which were delicious! While I was there the manager offered my a taste of their brisket as well, which was on par with the Ribs, moist with a smoky flavor!  I was less amazed with the baked beans and collard greens but the Mac n Cheese was fantastic! I will certainly go here again!

I stumbled upon this place with thanks to yelp, looking for a local BBQ place close to Pompano. This place had good ratings and a good location, only a couple if mins drive from exit 33 on I95.

At first we thought it was table service, but that's not the way it's done at Hickory Sticks. I enjoy having a beer with my ribs and you can't do that at this place. Despite this, the ambiance was nice, relaxing and the toilets were very clean!  5/5

Now onto the food! We split two things, brisket and baby back ribs. The ribs were good but the brisket was dry. They had a nice smokey flavor. Now, I must say at this point that I own a smoker so I can be really fussy when it comes to BBQ food. I would give the ribs a 3/5  as they could had been more moist and more BBQ'y.

The brisket let this place down. It was too dry. Maybe it had been smoked too long I'm not sure...the sides were all good, BBQ beans, fries and coleslaw which we finished them all! 2/5

I don't think I'll be coming back here...but I wouldn't tell anyone not to come. I would rather try a different place. Overall I will give this place 2/5. It could had been 4 if the brisket was better.

So surprised to find this place so close to home! Listen, i thought this place burnt down, and i drive by it everyday, its rough looking on the outside. Inside is your typical american south BBQ joint; order at the counter and they bring you the food. I have had the chicken and brisket, SO yummy and juicy! not smothered in sauce, just right. They give you extra sauce on the plate + some at each table (their chipotle is super good). The sides have been pretty good so far: mac+cheese, cole slaw & spicy slaw. They have their own version of corn bread, different consistency but very good regardless. I have been back a few times, dirt cheap too: $8 for a half chicken with 3 sides? you betcha!
