What is it about the Buffalo Tap that makes it so popular?? Their specialty (wings) is consistently horrible (more like "dried salt lick jerky"), the place is usually a greasy mess, and the service is slow and unreliable. Yet; the parking lot is always JACKED full!?!? I don't get it. Â
I have tried to like this place, honestly, I have. Â It's so close to my house, it would be super convenient and easy to visit but it's just so awful every time I try, I refuse to go anymore. Â Don't let the huge number of cars and trucks outside the place fool you. Â The wings are expensive, scrawny and small, with very little meat. The wing sauce is predictable and very salty. Â
Service was deplorable. Â I think its a requirement for all employees to smoke... our server reeked of cigarette smoke and she actually bent over and rested her forearms on the table when she talked to us. Â We weren't at the bar, but at a smaller "sit down" table. Â She was bent at a 90 degree angle with her arms, bulk, and hair literally draped across much of our table as she asked, "what do you want?" Â She stood herself back up with much effort, pushing up from the table to reach a standing position. Â I'm not easily grossed out, but the smell of her smoke breath, etc, was too much.
The one thing they have going is extremely cold, frosty, perfectly tapped mugs of beer. Â If you're thirsty, sit at the bar and have a couple. Â If you're hungry, go somewhere else. Â Quickly...
Best burgers and cheese curds in MN; plus Bud Light on tap! Â Took the family last weekend. Â Had to wait 30 mins for a table, but worth the wait. Â Tried the Elk Burger this time, tasted great. Â Cheese curds came out after our meal, place was too busy to complain, so we sucked it up paid our bill and will be back.
Review Source:Had my first Buffalo tap Wisconsin Juicy Lucy. Â Call if the cardiac burger, a Juicy Lucy with american cheese, topped with cheddar and bacon. Â Actually was pretty good.
Only beef (pardon the pun) this visit was the Coke. Â They serve Coke and Pepsi and the Coke tasted more line a bad version of Sam's Finest Cola from Walmart. Â Big Coke fan, so it took a little away from the meal.
Menu had many interesting items, still like the place and especially the new parking arrangement now that construction is done on 13.
I have driven by this place a hundred times and finally decided to give it a try.
For starters; service was great. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. They have a wide variety of burgers to choose from including buffalo (of course). I ended up with some buffalo wings and a couple of burgers. Their wings became my #1 favorite buffalo wings hands down, the burgers on the other hand were good but nothing special. Which was to bad because I was really expecting to indulge some awesome burgers, since that is what there menu pretty much consist of. The prices are also a little on the high side considering they serve the food in plastic baskets and give out plastic forks and spoons.
I would recommend this place for wings and I will be back for those wings!
Excellent burger joint! Â Good beers, large portions and very good food. Â I had the Buffalo Burger and it was very good, moist and lean yet full of taste. Â Go early though, it fills up fast and there were lots waiting when we were leaving. Â Service was very good, I would recommend this place to friends!
Review Source:This is always a solid place to eat when we visit our friends in B'ville. Â Somehow we always manage to get the really charming table that overlooks the creek out back.
Pros: Â Expansive menu, good quality food, nice tap beer selection. Â I always get a burger and am never disappointed.
Cons: My husband gets the walleye a lot and it doesn't come with any garnish, just fish & bun, you have to ask for lettuce, tomato, etc and the tomato is an extra $1. Â They use plastic silverware, and some of their sides are served on styrofoam plates (yikes). Â Service is a little hit or miss.
The food and drink are really good and are reasonably priced. Â We love their cheese curds.
We'd go back more often if it weren't for:
* Seating is not comfortable unless you are placed in the middle of the restaurant (by the fireplace area). Â The seats by the entrance lean and you feel like you are going to be dumped into the aisle, the seating in the enclosed porch is hard wood (at least they replaced the picnic table benches with something that have backs on them), and there is no ambiance in the lower level (dungeon) area.
* One of the regular waitresses is overly chatty, and feels compelled to spend 1/2 of your meal with you.
The fish fry was fresh, & hot. Â It came before the promised 30 minutes. Â The cheese curds were greasy, but not too bad after pressing the added fat in a napkin. Â The back room was very HOT. Â I think I lost ten pounds just perspiring. Â The Buffalo Tap was very noisy. Â Chances are I will return for the Friday all you can eat fish fry. Â Buffalo Tap is really known for their hamburgers.
Review Source:A solid 4 stars...
I have been to this establishment roughly 12 times now and I can finally rate it the way I have wanted too. Â I now know that it is possible to get great food, great service and a 1919 on tap at a place south of the river! Â Every time I am at The Buffalo Tap I am reminded what I need to do to make my cafe even better! Â Thanks Buffalo Tap Team for great food and service!
Buffalo Tap has everything a Minnesotan can look for in local blue collar cuisine. Juicy Lucys. Cheese curds. 1919 root beer. Lots of great local beers on tap, including Surly--which usually doesn't get this far out in the suburbs. This place is pretty well-rounded.
So why doesn't Buffalo Tap get 5 stars? I live less than a mile from this place, and yet the number of times I've been here I can count on one hand. I've never been compelled to convert into a frequent customer. And the reason is that while Buffalo Tap has a lot to offer, it doesn't over-achieve at anything. The burgers and Juicy Lucys are definitely serviceable, but Lion's Tap and Matt's Bar/5-8 run respective circles around them. The fries are completely forgettable and get stomped by Five Guys and The Nook/Shamrocks. Cheese curds and 1919 are great, but are novelties at best and would never be my main reason for picking a place. And sadly, the pricing seems to be on the higher end for this type of establishment, so I am discouraged from bringing the family here, even with the allure of Xbox 360 free-play.
Overall, this place is still great--I honestly can't speak harshly over anything it offers. But for every nearly innumerable feature laden in this establishment, I can either find a better example elsewhere or write it off as not being important enough. The lack of visits I make possibly betrays the 4 star rating, but this is a local establishment that tries very hard and does pretty well for itself--perhaps I rate it highly out of guilt more than anything. Still, if you need to get a bite in Savage you should definitely give it a shot. It might not be the most memorable, but you won't be disappointed.
We've been frequenting the Tap more since they are my boyfriend's softball team sponsor. What great management! Huge tap beer specials and Tue night is buy 6 wings/get 6 wings free. Also, I've noticed a surprisingly large wine selection. The pepperjack cheese curds (not nuggets!!) are wonderful and for the kids they have state fair style mini donuts with a dipping frosting. I've had 2 different burgers and would definitely recommend a Juicy Lucy there. A hidden gem that is a shoe-in for the top Lucys list in the metro area!
Review Source:I have visited The Tap several times over the years. Sometimes good sometimes not so good. But I think this place has been in a downward spiral for several months.
The service was never very good but when you server vanishes for 15 minutes at a time it becomes ridiculous. I would suppose he went on frequent smoke breaks as every employee there seemed very unhappy to work there, as they wore it on their face.
The prices are sky high! 2 beers and an appetizer sampler platter will set you back $32.00 and the sampler platter could have easily been consumed by one person. Â
When I asked to speak to a manager I was ignored. When I finally found one to voice my displeasure over my experience I was once again ignored and he promptly walked away from me.
Yet another independent establishment going downhill. It's sad that in the end, the restaurant scene in Savage will soon be dominated by Applebee's, BWW and any other chain that decides to move in.
Found this place thanks to the handy Yelp application on my Droid phone. I helped some friends move to Prior Lake, and after a long, grueling job....we went out to eat.
I reside in an inner ring suburb, so I certainly have no qualms about the suburbs as a whole. I find most people who do complain tend to be suburban raised children who moved to Uptown and suddenly decided there are a part of this unique eclectic scene where they try to disassociate themselves from anything that isnt strictly "urban". There are some of them that post here, matter of fact!
Sorry, got a bit off topic.
Anyway, one of my only real complaints about suburbs is the lack of unique, interesting dining. It tends to be a lot of the same. Small local spots like this tend to be the odd man out, so I like to eat there whenever possible. This is essentially the type of place Crapplebee's strives to be, but never will be. If every suburb had a local spot similar to this, life would be better overall and there would be fewer wars.
Buffalo burger was good, fries were good, service was fast, no complaints in that regard. Oh, and there is a small creek that runs alongside the restaurant which is pretty "picturesque" if you ask me (which you sort of did if you're reading this).
I probably wouldnt ever actively seek to drive to Savage for said establishment...but if I was in the area, I would stop in for beers or a burger. If you're in the south of the river vicinity, I'd recommend it.
I felt a field trip was in order so naturally we left the comforts of South Minne and headed to Savage to The Buffalo Tap. Here is my pro and con list.
Pros:
1. cheesecurds that will make you drool all over yourself
2. smack your mama good hot dog (and you don't even have to be 5 yrs old to order it)
3. this french fry snob approves of the krinkle cut variety they serve
4.servers are friendly and make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside
5. the hamburglar would happily klepto these beefy bites
6. huge menu with everything under the kitchen sink available
7. you leave in a very satisfying food coma
Cons:
1. it's in Savage, do I need to say anymore?
2. parking blows goats
I love this place. Whats funny is when I was a kid this place used to be a family restaurant and we knew the owners, we would go there about once a month and they had great food, now they still have great food and we can go play darts there. We always get great service when we go there too.
Review Source:My husband and I tried Buffalo Tap for the first time last weekend for lunch. Â We tried the homemade cheese curds which are very good. Â They are the first place that I can say have cheese curds that rival the State Fair's. Â We also each ordered a version of their Juicy Lucy burgers (my husband got fries, I got onion rings). Â I have to admit that we were a little disappointed with the burgers. Â They were a good size but the flavor was pretty bland. Â The service was mediocre in my opinion.
I am sure that I will go back for the cheese curds and I have heard that they have a decent happy hour so I will have to check that out.
Mmmm mmmm good! Â I am always happy and full when I leave Buffalo Tap! Â If you're looking for a great bar/burgers/fun- a visit is needed for sure! Â Buffalo Tap is located right in the heart of "downtown" Savage. Â They are known for their Juicy Lucys, mini corn dogs, cheese curds and great happy hours! Â Their patio out back is lighted with tiki torches and great fire pit and hanging lights. Â Perfect spot to lounge with a group of friends on a warm summer or cool fall night!
If you like spicy food, try the El Diablo basket! Â The El Diabo is a buger filled with jalepeno bacon topped with pepper jack cheese, jalenpenos and bbq sauce. Â Perfect combo for sure. Â
Not only does Buffalo Tap have your typical bar tv screens all over - but they have an XBOX, Wifi, Karoke and plenty of arcade games. Â They always show big fights, games and matches. Â Their parking lot is tiny, but parking is available all around on the street or in local businesses. Â Their staff is friendly and talkative, very small town atmosphere. Â Once they've met you, they'll remember you!
