Campo is a great place in the Village the ambiance gets 5 stars, there is nothing like sitting by a fire-pit and drinking a glass of wine or beer (Mammoth IPA)! The service is 3 stars and the food was good but not excellent.  I think sometimes The Village take advantage of the people staying with "well where else are you going to go?". We went to Campo twice this past week and the both times we had to ask for the check and then still waited over 15 min for it to come.  Our drink order took about 15 min to arrive when the place was 1/4 full. OK the food, GOOD! Had the Kale salad great and filling dressing was light since the poached egg gave it the creaminess. We ordered a pizza both times Margarita and great crust, but lacked a little salt. Next, we had the risotto with corn and asparagus (lacked on the asparagus, see other review below), al dente for the rice which is good. My husband got two pasta dish Spaghetti and meatballs good but again lacking a little salt and second night we split the Gnocchi which was actually pretty good the lemon gave it the acid it needed. Overall, Campo is good and  convenient if your in The Village - would I go again, sure... would I go somewhere else, sure. Â
PS. Campo needs to change Happy Hour times in Mammoth vs. Reno - ends way to early. A lot of other places to go within The Village or Mammoth that has better.
Yum! Try the califlower appetizer! Â The mixed drinks were fun and I liked my spagetti and meatballs. Â I like that you can order a small or large on the pasta dishes. I hate when restaurants give GIANT portions so I ordered the small and it was perfect. Â I thought my main meal was a "B" but the appetizers were "A's" and the service was good too. I live in LA so I would give this place 4 stars in LA because Los Angeles just has so many great places but for Mammoth this is definitely 5 stars. Â It is hard to find a place with food this fresh and interesting dishes like these in the mountains :)
Review Source:Went in for Happy hour, Â I was one one of 3 parties in the place. It took ages for the waitstaff to acknowledge me so I ordered a beer and 2 apps immediately. Â One was sauteed Cauliflower that was yummy but greasy. Â I didn't have any napkins for my greasy hands and no waitstaff to be found. Â I went to the bar and asked for a napkin and requested a 2nd beer. Â
The reason for this Yelp is be careful. Â When the 2nd beer arrived I immediately gave my card to avoid further delay. Â When I received the invoice to sign there was no itemized and it was for $37.71 Â I had 2 local $4 drafts, a $4 pickled app. and $5 Cauliflower. Â The waitstaff was again nowhere to be found. Â I asked the chef for an itemized. Â I was charged full price on all of the beer and food and an entree that I didn't have. Â I asked for it to be corrected. Â The real total was half what they tried for. Â
2 days later I checked my credit card and instead of $19.72 on my card it was that and the $37.71. Â Triple Charge! Â I called Campo 6 times to resolve the issue and left 2 messages. Â Still to this moment 5 days later nothing. Â Finally I contacted my credit card company to resolve it!
Sat outside on the terrace with my family on a somewhat busy Monday night (4th of July crowd) - so the ambiance was fun with all of the people in the Village.
The service was also good; the waiter attentive and our food came out reasonably fast.
The food itself however - meh. TL;DR = Small servings, misleading descriptions, expensive.
The focaccia bread that came out with the water was nice but the server did not bring out any oil for dipping.
For dinner I had the lemon gnocchi, which was supposed to came with asparagus and sugar snap peas. I think there was one spear of asparagus cut into slices, and perhaps two or three sugar snap peas cut in half. I'm not exaggerating. I was sad as I was looking forward to some nice vegetables. And the portion of gnocchi itself was quite small. $14.
My husband had the Wild Boar pasta - he was expecting nice chunks of meat. What came out was a tiny (like you'd expect for a side salad) bowl of what looked like Hamburger Helper. Really disappointing. $15.
Like others mentioned, the pizzas looked like the only decently-sized portions.
I think this was the only Italian restaurant my family has been to and left hungry! I'd recommend for the ambiance and general fun of being in the Village, but not for the food.
I really want to give this more stars, but just can't. Â The food is pretty good. Â The pizza looks like the best thing on the menu, but we've never gotten it. Â It's the best Italian you'll find in Mammoth, that's for sure. It's just not amazing and the number of Bros and cranky families you'll encounter in the winter will turn you off a bit. Â The hostesses here are usually pretty bad at their jobs, but if you make a reservation, they'll honor it pretty faithfully.
Review Source:It was pretty good. We only had a 20 min wait on a sat night. Â We sat at the bar and ordered the spaghetti and i forgot what the other one was called but it had cauliflower & truffle in it. Â It was very heavy but delicious. Â The fried or roasted potatoes were good too. Â Their long islands was pretty good too. They said they use their own sweet and sour mix. Â It reminded me of lemonade.
Review Source:Our order taker was very nice and quite accommodating with our foolish banter, endless questions, and quirky off-menu requests. My custom pizza arrived just as I requested, and the wine she recommended for us complimented our meal. Give the rice ball appetizer a try; it's better than it looks. Â I really like the general decor and am interested in acquiring some of that lighting! The prices are precisely what you'd expect in a small town ski resort situation and even a little more expensive than that but I had a lovely visit and would return.
Review Source:AWEFUL. Â DON'T GO HERE. Â VERY RUDE. Â NEED MORE TRAINING. Â THEY ARE NOT READY TO SERVE GUESTS. Â
We stayed in the village for my birthday (Feb 2013) and I was craving italian food so we walked down to Campo for dinner. Â My husband likes burgers and to our surprise there was one on the menu. Â It was not your typical burger (it had spinach on it) and it was raw. Â The server didn't know how to correct the problem so we asked for the manager and was told he was busy and he would come by when he could. Â When he finally came by he responded to our complaint by telling us that if we are not used to eating authentic italian food maybe this is not the place for us. Â He was so rude. Â I think they hired him fresh from Carls Junior. Â The manager was more concerned about impressing his employee/server then he was concerned about us having a great experience. Â
I had the pizza which was just okay. Â It was italian style which i like but it was pretty boring & oversalted.
It was my first time trying Campo, I am a local and was waiting to hear what others had to say before trying it myself. Â I hadn't heard anything to positive about the place and sadly I have to report that I feel the same way. Â A++ on ambiance and decor. Â They nailed the visuals. Sadlly the waitstaff, while attractive, weren't into it. Â Our foccacia was not served with the olive oil/balsamic to dip in. Â Our kale salad promised a poached egg and our two orders came without. Â I noticed it's abscence when I bit into a huge chunk of raw garlic. Â The pizza seemed okay, but for the price...not so much. Â I REALLY wanted this restaurant to rock it, but sadly it didn't. Â Another Mammoth dud.
Review Source:I finally tried this place after arriving in Mammoth on Friday night at 9:30 p.m. It can be difficult to find restaurants in town still serving at this hour so we headed to the Village. Campo is located where Hyde used to be. Luckily, the place looked lively and the hostess confirmed that they were still offering food.
I decided to go with a cup of the "Soup of the Moment" - roasted yellow pepper with chile oil. Very flavorful and delicious! I also got the Warm Spinach Salad. Was hoping for more of a entree-sized salad but it was the size of a side salad. Not the best spinach salad I've ever had but it was OK.
My friend ordered spaghetti, which also did not look entree-sized. She didn't care for the unusually sized noodles (they resembled udon) or the strange texture. We asked the waitress about this and she shrugged and said the noodles were probably larger than normal because they make their pasta fresh in-house.
Looking around at the other tables, the pizzas look excellent and BIG so I will try these next time.
The check came in a small book called "Reading Tea Leaves" by a Highland Seer, Â which describes the general principles and practices of tea-leaf reading. Did not go with the ambiance or decor of the place so we asked the waitress why the check was presented in this kind of book. She again shrugged and said that the original Campo restaurant (in Reno, NV) drops their checks this way. Very interesting....
I'll give it 3.5 stars and round it up to 4 in hopes that future visits will be more promising as I work my way through the menu.
I have been waiting to try Campo for a while so on this last visit we decided it was time. We went with a group of friends who have been raving about the food. We were not so impressed. Having food allergies, it is a struggle when eating out, but our server wasn't very educated in the ingredients or the menu. We ordered salads to start and they arrived just after our entree's. Dinner was OK not amazing but OK. A few lone highlights were the  Butternut Squash soup which was fantastic and salad, when it arrived it was tasty. Service was nice... but, in another person in our parties words "amateur".
I won't rule out Campo but will not be rushing back.
For the life of me, I do not understand why Campo Mammoth wasn't reviewed higher on yelp! Everything from ambiance to service to drink and food consumed was ABSOLUTE perfection. And we ordered a TON between the 4 of us.
Appetizers: the Bee Sting pizza, the calamari
Salads: the spinach salad, the kale salad
Entrees: the spaghetti and meatballs, the lamb shank, the Campo pasta served gluten free (over polenta), another pizza topped with fresh arugula and truffle oil
Everything was incredible and service was super fast! Not at all like a lot of the slower paced restaurant staffs on the mountain.
I highly recommend coming here for a couple drinks and sharing a bunch of plates among the table.
A must order: the Bee Sting pizza!!!
I'm sad that Campo isn't better liked. My husband and I live in Mammoth and have dined here 4 or 5 times. Yes, if your trying to eat on a weekend night durning peak season you will need a reservation.
I think you just need to know how to order here and know what to expect. Everyone keeps dissing the pizza like they expect it be Round Table, thick and cheesy and heavy on toppings. It's not. It's truly italian style. If you don't like italian style pizza, order something else. Crispy somewhat blackened (in a good way) crust. Very rustic and enjoyable.
Favorite dishes:
I order the roasted cauliflower every time. It is served in a little cast iron dish, browned in spots and slathered in a delicious olive oil, garlic, red pepper and tiny crunchy bits of grana. (super flavorful cheese)
Wilted spinach salad is great.
Always ask about the soup of the moment. I tried a roasted red pepper and tomato soup. Amazingly delicious. I felt transported to a rustic italian country farmhouse kitchen. Cleaned the bowl with the fresh focaccia that is placed on the table.
Bee sting pizza. Honey, serrano, prociutto. surprising and delightlful combo.
Butternut squash gnocci: soft pillowy fresh pasta tossed with butter, nutmeg, and squash. So good.
Cocktails... yum. I had a ginger something or other. it was amazing.
The not so good:
Tried the kale with poached egg. That was a little gross for me because while i love kale and i love poached eggs, the kale was cool and the egg was warm, the yolk drizzles over the cool kale and immediately cools down. My poached eggs must be hot. Otherwise i feel like im eating a raw fresh cracked egg. Won't get that again. But that's just me.
The servers are usually very friendly and attentive. Usually. It's still Mammoth. :)
I will continue coming here.
This was my first time here. My sister had heard mixed reviews when it first opened but when she tried it she loved it and brought me back with her. This is without a doubt my new favorite restaurant on the mountain. The food was amazing. I had the pork special which changes. This was a plate of pork cooked 5 ways and each was amazing. We also shared the Carmel Budino for dessert which was a must try (it even said that on the menu)! Too funny. Our Server was so much fun, had a great sense of humor and made our dinner that much more fun. I will be back every time I visit! Oh and make reservations! They were packed on a Thursday night!
Review Source:Campo is  a newish modern Italian place, and seems to lean toward Tuscan fare, although there's something for everyone, including a nice interior and patio with fire pit.
Okay, that was my previous review. Now I'm editing it, because I went back and tried their pizza. AMAZING! I ordered the Wild Mushroom. Sure, it had wild mushrooms, but it was also had thick cut bacon and an egg in the middle. EXCELLENT. And they wood-fire their pies, so the crust is slightly charred and a bit chewy. It's crazy good--truly, one of the best I've had, and way better than the rest in the area.
There are several local beers on tap, many others in bottle, and a varied wine list. Also cool was that they have several keg wines on tap. If you haven't had them, it's not box wine, for sure. Wines can be refrigerated to the right temperature without the fussiness of a cruvinet, or the waste of bottles and corks. The wine avoids air, so you're getting it as fresh as possible. I had a good Qupe Syrah, and they offered another from Palmina.
Mammoth is a tough sell on quality of food....it's to be expected when you visit. Campo has raised the bar. Excellent new addition to the village. I usually eat there half the time I'm in Mammoth. Fun, hip, cozy environment and mouth watering food that's appropriately priced. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.
My Favorite....Kale Salad and the Bee Sting Pizza!
We vacation in Mammoth about 18 days per year and eat out most nights, rotating through a number of local restaurants. Â
We really wanted to like Campo, since we've planned a group ski trip staying in the Village mid March. Â We had high hopes and tested it out on a Thursday evening in early February around 6:00. The Village location is perfect. We had a short wait. Â The bar was lively. Â The environment seemed fun.
From there it went quickly downhill. Â The menu seemed weird. Â It lacked choices and was a bit pricey. By the end of dinner we concluded that Campo's menu was created by their accountant, and the food tasted like it was seasoned by their accountant. Â
The food seemed stingy with protein, condiments, and flavors. Â Husband had the ($15) Â pizza with maaaybe 2 ounces of cheese and 2 ounces of sausage. Â I had a (4.95) small cup of bean soup and the ($14) smaller portion of the (wild game meat pasta) noodle bowl. The soup was OK but it probably measured 2/3 cup at most. Â The noodle bowl was awful. Â It tasted similar to Hamburger Helper. Â When we asked for Parmesan cheese, Â a two teaspoon dollop arrived on a luncheon plate. Â There was no salt or pepper on the table. Â After judiciously fishing out every last crumble of meat and 1/2 cup of noodles, the noodle bowl looked just about as full as it had arrived. Â We are thin people, but after a full day of skiing, we need more than noodles and bread.
Campo's location will probably keep them in business for quite some time, but if you want a good meal, Mammoth has plenty of decent dining choices a short walk or drive away.
Lots of mixed reviews here, so as an FYI, I went to dinner with someone who had been there earlier in the week and both times she enjoyed her food, so there's that.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere here, and the whole place just smells amazing. Â Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu. Â We did order one item that was new and he was honest about not having served it yet, but was great about following up so that he could describe it better moving forward. Â
Two of us ordered the fusilli with the cream sauce. Â It had beautiful mushrooms and cauliflower and a hint of truffle oil. Â Very good, very rich for sure. Â My pasta was a tiny bit overcooked, but not enough to bother me. Â One of us ordered one of the pizzas and loved it. Â The bread was also fantastic.
One odd thing - I arrived early and sat at the bar for a glass of wine. Â I was really surprised at what a short pour I received, especially when paying $10 for a glass of wine (not expensive, but not cheap either). Â When I ordered my second glass of wine, the pour was much heavier, and truly made up for the first pour, so I was pleased. Â When my friend ordered a glass at the table, she received a small amount as well. Â She looked at it funny and I told her what happened with me, and when she ordered her second glass it was much more full. Â Weird. Â I got the feeling they want to make sure you order a second glass of wine, but that you're pleasantly surprised when it arrives. Â Just odd. Â It won't keep me from going back again though, I'll just be paying attention to see if it happens again! Â
Our server really was great, very attentive, water was never empty and he continued to check back with us. Â Good evening for sure.
This place is tolerable, but certainly not exceptional.
Wait is long. Naturally, this place is busy since it's in the Mammoth Village. If you want to come here, get reservations.
Atmosphere: Slightly fancy, which would be fine if the food was equivalent, but then.... it's not.
Soup: Ribolitta- ingredients were interesting, but overwhelmed by the flavor of black pepper
Meatballs: Tasty, but few relative to spaghetti
Spaghetti: I liked it- wife thought it was "okay"
Wife had Pizza- Â good (but really, it's pizza- how hard is it to screw up?)
Also tried the 'Special': Scallops: Tasted like low tide- literally
Potatoes: Extra salty (which might be good depending on what your tastes are)
Wine was overpriced and undervalued and came in water glasses- not even shaped like wine glasses
In summary- avoid anything too fancy and you'll probably be okay; Has room for improvement
I've eaten many places in town and this is the my favorite by far. My husband and I went twice and both times it was excellent.
To the previous comments about the pizza--This is gourmet Italian style pizza. It's a very thin crust baked at a very  high temperature so the crust is crisp and almost burnt, just like in Italy. It's not loaded down with toppings, a few slices of fresh mozzarella and a couple pieces of meat with roasted garlic--amazing. If you want your pizza chewy and smothered in cheese and toppings go to Round Table. If you want authentic Italian Pizza (VPN certified!!) go to Campo!
We've had a pizza, which was great, and the calamari appetizer which was also good. An excellent glass of Riesling too. The second time we had the salumi and cheese plate for two with salted nuts, hot mustard, and local honey. It was amazing. They also make pickles in house which were very fresh although rather spicy! Â We'll be coming back again many times for sure!
Family friendly. Â We did not enjoy the food. Â Kids ordered chicken sandwich off the kids menu (seasoned for older taste). Â The mac n cheese off the kids menu was not bad but would not do again. Â I ordered the warm spinach salad and that was not good. Â The husband had salmon and he liked it but it was a single filet on some spinach. Â There was not much substance. Â Such a bummer because it is right there! next to the gondola.
Review Source:I dined at Campo Reno in December with a BFF and had a wonderful meal with stellar food and stellar service. Â However, the servers at Campo Mammoth Lakes are most charitably referred to as a bunch of ding dongs. Â A friend and I shared the salumi and cheese plate along with a kale salad. Â I asked our dingaling server where the lardo was as she pointed to the prosciutto. Oh, my lord. Mammoth Lakes has the worst servers anywhere. Â Nevertheless, we shared a great meal in very attractive surroundings. Â Just don't expect much from the service. Â Oy vey!
Review Source:I don't understand the mixed reviews. Â I went to Campo three times for lunch this past week and had a great meal each time. Â I tried the burger, wild mushroom pizza, chicken sandwich and calamari risotto and all were very good. Â In particular, the pizza was pretty amazing. Â I'd say I enjoyed it almost as much as Pizzeria Mozza. Â All items were very fresh and prepared well. Â One of the best lunch options in Mammoth.
Review Source:I am addicted to Campo! I cannot believe how many bad reviews Campo gets. I have eaten there four times in the past couple weeks and can't wait to go back. The fresh pasta is homemade and better than what I can produce. We love the Campo pasta with cherry tomatoes and caramelized onion. The pizza is fresh, tasty, and clean...my husband always gets the meatball. Chef Matias stretches the dough and makes the mozzarella a couple times a week. I had the risotto last Sunday night. It was cooked perfectly, redolent with wild mushrooms and chicken. The kale salad with a poached egg is a mainstay as is the dessert sampler with chocolate cheesecake, an Italian salted caramel pudding, and off-the-hook bread pudding with maple-bacon ice cream...all house made. At lunch I had a the Mahi-mahi sandwich on fresh house made bun with spicy aioli and slaw. They call it the Swimmer. Awesome.
Review Source:This places deserves better reviews. My husband and I went in on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch and had a great experience. He got the spaghetti and meatballs while I had the warm spinach salad and a margarita pizza. We found all of the food to be really good. Yes, there was minimal cheese on the pizza (like another reviewer mentioned), but I personally didn't mind since I don't need a ton of cheese clogging up my arteries! I found the sauce to be flavorful as well (not too watery). Add some red pepper and basil and you're golden. The dough was insanely fresh and delicious. It was really cool seeing them make and toss the dough right when you walk in as well.
We also had excellent service (literally the second I was finished with my water someone was there replenishing it immediately). It was cool and unique how our server presented us with the bill in an old book (Encyclopedia of Golf, which my husband got caught up in reading for a few mins!).
Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed some delicious food in our favorite little ski town :)
Definitely recommended!
We stopped in at Campo for drinks before heading over to Petra's on Saturday, Dec 22. Â Needless to say, this weekend in Mammoth was crazy busy. Â There were a couple of seats open at the bar so we grabbed them right away. Â We must have just gotten lucky because as we sat there, the place got busier and busier and people were standing around just waiting for tables and seats to open up. Â
The atmosphere of the restaurant is fast-paced and exciting. Â We loved it. Â You can see where all the pizza guys are making the pizzas in the wood-burning stove. Â There's also a station you can see from the bar where they arrange all the salads and appetizers. Â We each ordered dirty martinis and asked if they had blue-cheese stuffed olives. Â Our bartender said they didn't, but when she brought us our martinis she said she had went in the back and got some blue cheese and stuffed our olives for us. Â She was AWESOME! Â As we sat there and watched all this food being made, we decided to get an order of meatballs to tide us over before dinner. Â The meatballs came out and looked very unassuming. Â Upon our first bite, we both looked at each other and said, it's cold. Â It was quite comical, actually. Â I put my finger to the center of the meatball and it was cold, not luke warm, not cool to the touch, but cold. Â It wasn't raw, it was just cold. Â So we stopped eating them. Â We felt awful because up until that point we were loving this place. Â The bartender came back and asked if something was wrong since we only took one bite each and left the rest of the dish sitting there. Â We told her they were cold and it was okay, we just didn't want to eat them. Â She looked horrified and apologized and asked if we wanted something else. Â We told her no because we had dinner in a less than an hour.
We ordered a couple glasses of wine. Â When we got our tab, she had taken the meatballs off, but as we were paying it, a runner brought us another order. Â The bartender told him that V means VOID, it does NOT mean another order. Â
I'd like to go back and try dinner. Â I think they have a few things they need to work out but the place seems to have a lot of potential. Â Our bartender was awesome and if not for the unfortunate meatballs I would have given them 5 stars.
This place is not ready to be opened yet.
The 3 of us went 1 day before the official opening. Â Place was pretty busy, 20 minute wait.
Our Australian waitress was well intentioned but was essentially useless. Â
Sat at the table for about 5 minutes before she showed up. Â Gave drink and appetizer order. Â Appetizers came out BEFORE the drinks arrived.
Appetizers were calamari and meatballs. Â Calamari was decent. Â Meatballs and sauce were room temperature which was sort of ironic since it came out in a iron pan thing as if to suggest at one point it was in the oven. Â Shame because it tasted good if not for the temperature.
Asked for bread, twice. Â When it came it was 3 tiny cold pieces.
One of us got the cheese pizza. Â 4 silver dollar sized circles of cheese. Â Might as well of asked for no cheese. Â
Burger was uneventful.
Bottom line, if you want to go to a new, hip restaurant right in the village that charges a lot and fails to deliver on service and food, this is the place for you.
This place has the potential to be a 5 star restaurant, but is failed by its 1 star employees.
1. Reservations: 0 star
Common man, let me make a damn reservation!! Your restaurant has opentable, but it was disabled. Your restaurant has a phone number, but no one picked up the phone. Yet when my party of two arrived, the hostess asked us if we had a reservation. Â HAHAHA.
I brought up that I couldn't make one. Realizing her mistake, she said yada yada yada opentable yada. Geesh, no apology for making us feel like amateur diners without reservations???
However, we were seated immediately, since it was 9pm. Our location, next to a window facing the Village main courtyard, was very nice.
2. Â Appetizers + drinks: 1 star
My boyfriend ordered a glass of Monterey Pinot Noir. Delicious.
Since my belly was whacked, I had a hot black tea. Fragrant and smooth.
We ordered the marinated olives and they were great. There was a slight appeal of citrus which was unexpected, yet delightful. Really well done.
They brought out some buttered bread for the table, which was cold. Really?? How hard is it to keep bread under a heat lamp?? Oh wait, it is kept in a plastic box under a lamp, but it's right next to the door that brings in freezing drafts as customers walk in.
3. Main course: 0 star
I wanted to order the MARKET PRICE risotto, but they ran out. Why is it MP anyways? We proceeded to order the margherita pizza and spaghetti and meatballs. Our food arrived very quickly.
My boyfriend's margherita pizza looked yummy. As any good girlfriend should, I took a bite out of his pizza. Holy. F*cking. Â Sh*t. It tastes like cancer. Ashy ass cancer.
I brought this to the attention of our server, "is our pizza supposed to be this ashy on the bottom"? I pointed to the visible ash on the pizza and the plate. She said yada yada wood burning oven yada and offered to take it back. My boyfriend was very hungry and didn't want to wait, so we kindly refused.
There's a real problem when I can see ash stains on my boyfriends napkin, from the pizza. He too gave up on the pizza after seeing this.
Spaghetti and meatballs, more like mushy homemade noodles with charred saltballs.
The noodles were probably cooked before I ordered them because they did not come out hot. There was no visible steam and the sauce looked like it was well absorbed into the pasta. The noodle tasted homemade, but the texture was mushy and water-logged. Very disappointing because I love good pasta. Next, I took a bite of the meatball. SO SALTY. Yuck.
I gave my boyfriend a share of my entree. He reported back the he was unable to cut through the meatball because it was charred on the bottom.
4. Service: 0 stars
Our server rolled her eyeballs when my boyfriend tried to provide constructive criticism about the pizza at the end of our meal. It looked like she was mentally prepared for this. Her knee jerk reaction was to say "lemme take it off [the bill]".
She could have at least passed the comment on to the kitchen. Don't take it personally! The food had no reflection on her ability as a server, but her attitude did.
Overall:
Campo has great potential to be an awesome restaurant. Please start listening to your customers and make sure you employees start giving a f*ck about the food.
What a wonderful surprise to stumble upon Campo!
This restaurants grand opening will not happen until the weekend of December 22, 2012. Â We were there during a "soft grand opening." Â Knowing this, we expected the staff and the food to be "ok" as a learning curve may exist. Â Yea....we were wrong on this! Â
A few general comments:  First, Jaime (General Manager) is an individual who "Manages by Walking Around."  He supports the staff by working the front podium, seating guests, running food, touching tables.  Mammoth Mountain and the management company made an excellent hire!  Second, the staff as a whole is well trained, happy, and genuine.  Third, the Food.....WOW.  I had the "Bee Bite Pizza" and this salami, honey, jalapeño pizza was a slice of heaven (and somewhat hell because it was spicy) yet addicting.  The risotto, pork sampler, calamari are also excellent choices. Â
My friend and I enjoyed Campo so much, we returned for dinner the next day. Â The cocktails, wine, and food were flowing along with great conversation and memories within a nice atmosphere. Â
The saying goes, "You get what you pay for." Â That saying is very true when it comes to Campo. Â For a mountain resort, I believe Campo is at the right price point, and you will not be disappointed.
I had a positive experience here as well. Â I sat at the bar and ordered their V.P.N. pizza. Â Nice thin crust with a great sauce. Â Everyone around me seemed to really enjoy their food too. Â
They hadn't had their "hard" opening yet, so service was still a work in progress, but they were trying hard, and seemed genuinely grateful for my patronage; Â 180 degrees different from the last place that was here (Hyde Lounge).
We got lucky in a lot of ways on this trip to mammoth. Â The sun was out on the mountain, ran into friends, and apparently found a great place to eat a day after it's grand opening. Â This place is a little pricey but on a par with the rest of what you will find in this area. Â I had a Wild Mushroom Pizza while my fiance had the Baked Fusili. Â The Baked Fusili was the dish of the night. Â The Cauliflower gave it a good crunch along with it's cheesy goodness. Â That's the dish to get. Â The pizza was ok. Â The other pizzas might have been better. Â We also had their Bread pudding with bacon ice cream. Â I know bacon ice cream sounds good but it sure tasted like it belong together. Â This place is good stuff.
