I got the cheese quesadillas, literally just cheese between a tortilla.. no cheese or seasonings. The rice and beans were the best. My Margarita was literally just ice.. it hardly had any flavor and I couldn't even taste a hint of alcohol. The chips that come with the quesadillas were overcooked and greasy. Probably won't be coming back again.
Review Source:I agree with quite a few of the reviewers here. This place is overrated. I've been many times to meet friends but I think the food is bad. Â The burgers are terrible. There's only so much you can do to cover up the taste of a frozen patty. Same goes for the chicken fried steak. I asked the server if it was homemade and she said yes. I knew it wasn't as soon as I received it due to the preformed shape. The green chili gravy couldn't save the frozen steak taste. I can't believe a local place wouldn't attempt to make their own burgers and chicken fried steak. Get a fresh burger at Blue Sky or Five Guys. A good chicken fried steak at Triple Js (defunct Home Cafe also had a good one).
I like the queso but the chips are usually very greasy. The soups are good also.
I find the service is usually pretty good but the sub-par food keeps me away.
Stopped in to Caprock Cafe on my way through town... I was pleasantly surprised. The chicken sandwich I had was really good with actually really fresh ingredients for a local pub joint. Typically I'm expecting frozen microwaved chicken when I'm at a sports bar but this was great. The beer was served cold which is typically my only requirement so no complaints there.
Overall I would definitely recommend stopping in to catch a football game or for some above average pub food. Well done caprock.
Bison Burger...it is how I roll.  I ordered it medium...so that did not happen.  Fries...cold.  The boys had everything from Potato Nachos (looked like a pile of hangover goodness) to Soup  (he wanted bacon and she said let me see if I can find some...eventhough the other boy had a bacon burger and we could clearly see...they have bacon)...chips and salsa are worthy.  The Waitress was clueless and hates chicks.....she could have made a sweet tip....but she refused to do her job.  Poor thing.  I miss Lubbock bc they have schooners of beer...I have yet to see them anywhere else in my travels.  It just feels fun to hold them and have an ice layer.  But I stuck with water....bc I am an adult now....BORING :-)  This location has more character and not near as cold as the one on 82nd.  Both are nonsmoking.
Review Source:Place has decent food, friendly staff and free wi-fi. Â I come here to watch every once in awhile and they're nice enough to turn the volume on for me and love the fact that it's no smoking [which can sometimes be hard to find in a bar in lubbock]. Â Â Oh, the burgers are just ok, salad was fine - nothing to write home about as far as i'm concerned, but the beers are nice and cold!

Ummm I won't be back... Let me tell you why. They have a marketing campaign sign that says "voted best place to have a beer in Texas". That's funny because the bottled beer is probably the only good thing on this  HUGE. It reminded me of the show kitchen nightmirors. I am always skeptical when I see an 8 page menu. Cheesecake factory being the only acception. Haha "fresh frozen"
I ordered the bacon and blue cheese burger med rare with fries. How do you F that up. The burger had obviously been frozen, the bacon was over cooked and chewy and the expo did not put the blue cheese crumbles on... Oh wait I'm sorry I paid extra for blue cheese dressing. What a joke. Fries cold.
On the upside Jamie, our server; was very nice. I hate to say it again but I will not ever be back... I really want to like the places I write about but this one was a bust for me.
This has become my go to place when I'm in town for a layover with business.
I don't get to stay in Lubbock more than one night but when I am here Caprock is where I head.
The Schooners are big and cold with great beer deals in the evening.
The food is great, affordable, and full of flavor.
I enjoy the burgers, the Texas toothpicks are the way to go for your side.
The waitstaff is friendly and the atmosphere inside is fun and there are plenty of TVs to watch.
There really isn't an age group here, it gets young during the college nights but I have seen all age ranges and some families (not too many since it is a bit loud).
"The road goes on forever and the party never ends"
One of the best places to eat in Lubbock, hands down.
I'll start with my very few problems with Caprock: long waits on weekends during football season, and the fact that they aren't closer to campus.
The burgers are very good, and will please the picky eaters. If you're adventurous, try the Down and Dirty Chicken. It's one of the best sandwiches I've ever tried. Don't worry about the description, it's not that hot; its more like a butter/garlic/spice mix they dip the chicken in.
Don't come here expecting anything other than good, Texas Style cooking. It's not fancy, but good food doesn't need to be.
We stopped here when traveling through from Houston. My husband is a big burger fan and seeks out the best burgers when ever he can. So we came to Caperock cafe.
Based on the reviews we started with queso. The chips were over done and saturated with oil, a pet peeve of mine. I declared the queso "not good but not bad." My husband replied "it's just velveeta. Nothing to mess up there." Indeed. Eat it. Skip it. It's all the same.
He had the cheese burger in Paradise with buffalo patties. I thought a nicer bun might helped. Despite all the great reviews, the verdict: tasteless. Maybe it was the buffalo?
I ordered the "down and dirty" chicken wrap with a small salad hoping to try something different and up my vegetable count for the day. The salad was a flop. Mom always said a salad needs 5 vegetables. I got a bowl of lettuce with two onion slices and too tiny carrots, all covered in cheese. Fail.
The down and dirty sauce was described as a sauce of garlic and habanero hot sauce. I was nervous that this wrap was too hot for me, but I dove in. But oh no, lest you worry that it's too hot for you, fear not for your tongue, fear for your heart. Friends, it's not hot. It's salty.
The bill was $40. Now that made my husband hot.
Oh cheeseburger in paradise, how do I love thee. So simple, yet so delicious. I cannot even explain what makes it so good...they probably make them with unicorn tears. Â I've searched far and wide, but this is my favorite burger of all time.
I haven't actually had one in 6 years since I graduated, but I was reminiscing with some friends this evening and it all came back. I'd plan a trip out to lbk just for this burger.
I remember the queso and tarantula margaritas being particularly delicious also.
Consistently great food but the service is often rather slow. If you get the chance, I would recommend sitting outside. The seating is pretty tight and its usually pretty easy to get a conversation going with adjacent tables.
They are proud of there food so be prepared. It's worth every penny but a big meal here means LOTS of pennies. My usual is chips and queso for starters and the Cholula Spicy Chicken Sandwich with (this is the important part) 'twisted taters'. We always have a good time here and I know this atmosphere won't disappoint for you.
btw, twisted taters are Caprock's homemade potato chips and they are out of this world amazing!
Caprock Cafe is one of those good standard places to go in Lubbock. It is pretty consistent across the board on food, drinks, service, etc.
Interesting things about Caprock:
- They serve buffalo if requested for beef dishes.
- They have several Cholula dishes - and you have to love a place with a bottle of Cholula on every table.
- Drinks are decently priced, and they have a decent happy hour.
- Atmosphere is pretty cool, and they have a pseudo outdoor area to hang in where you can smoke.
I really don't have any complaints about the place, so I won't bother with an 'uninteresting' section. I guess I could say it gets a bit crowded at times, and sometimes there is a wait. But for what they provide it is usually worth the wait.
