When you live as far away as I do and are still taking the wife and kids all the way into the city for a meal like this you know it's got to be GREAT!!
Today we had...
Traditional Chicken Wings
Spicy, maybe too spicy, Chicken Wings
Chicken Tenders
Medium Shrimp
Jumbo Shrimp
Catfish Filets
Chicken Gizzards (cooked soft)
French Fries
Great Homemade Coleslaw
I know what you're thinking, but with 10 People and some Ginger Ale it's never too much food!!
Captain Hooks on Cottage Grove keeps me driving 15 Miles into the city for fried food.....YES IT'S THAT GOOD!!!
Service 5*'s
Cleanliness 5*'s
Pricing & Value 5*'s
Captain Hooks has some of the best chicken in the world! I've NEVER has a bad batch and we go quite often (they called my husband '100 wings' because he ordered a pan each week for his friends after they played basketball). Â I tend to stick with the chicken, fish, or shrimp; all are very delicious. Â Not a big fan of their burgers, but they're not a burger joint. Â Their steak sandwiches are REALLY good, and the lemonades...TO DIE FOR!
The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that the service can be somewhat lacking if it's super busy or late at night.
Of all the Captain Hooks Fish and Chicken I have had lunch in, this one is by far my favorite. I actually watched the food channel during my lunch hour on two 46" HD flat screen TVs in the re-built lobby. I am a fan of the lemon pepper and when it goes on catfish nuggets or tilapia, you better hold on to your seat. This Captain Hooks location knows how to treat their customers right. I'm talking generous portions people! I literally had enough for dinner that night.
One thing by far is a must .....their fresh squeezed lemonade. When I asked how fresh is this on the real? They showed me the box of empty lemons their employee was working on. So the answer is "DAILY"! Everyday its made fresh to order.
There is no shortcuts at this location, impressive, clean and affordable!
This place is great because it's open 24 hours daily, and you can get anything. Â They serve all Chicago fast food: Â shrimp, perch, Italian beef, hamburgers, hot dogs, really any sandwich, etc. Â But they've also got some more off-the-wall soul food like fried frogs legs. Â Another good reason to stop in is the South Side-style iced lemonades, from blueberry to watermelon (you know the stuff if you've been to any of the steak & lemonade spots around the city). Â And their sweet potato pie is fantastic. Â It's not made in house, but don't let that worry you--the confectionery that makes them on 95th St knows what it's doing with those spices, and packages them with a cigarette-style warning about addiction.
The downside, although I'll have to give it credit for actually having seating, is that the seating area is dirty and unpleasant. Â And I like brightly lit, but there's an upper bound... Â Take your food to go.
