this review is for the venue only. not the music or the live act i enjoyed.
PROs:
- didn't have to cross a bridge to get there
- Knuckles Sports Bar was across the street at Hyatt
- outside smoking area was large & a welcome break from too loud music (even in the cold)
- drink prices were very good
CONs:
- sign was not lit on Old Bayshore to alert you of location (passed it once)
- parking lot was very dark
- after ordering one Grey Goose with cranberry juice, i was told there were out of vodka (at a bar?!)
- $10 cover was way too high for venue
- sound guy did not know what he was doing
- DJ music before and after live act was way too loud
i will not return unless i am interested in another live act
This place was a big disappointment. I had gone there with some friends after watching the football game on Sunday. We get there walked in and had to wait for a bartender, finally got our drink order and just has he put them down a guy walks up and ask if we were going to pay the cover charge!!!   Are you serious?? The was no one at the door when we walked in and actually no one in the place but  a couple and their baby!! Needless to say I said no and before i knew it the bartender took all of our drinks off the counter and threw them away!!  Man i was shocked,, I looked at the guy and said i was going to pay for the drinks but not cover charge. I WOULD NEVER SET FOOT IN THERE AGAIN!!!!! WHAT A DUMP!!
Review Source:Caribbean Garden is a mainstay of the Peninsula Latino dance scene and has been around for something like 15 years. Located off Bayshore Highway near all the airport hotels, this place actually does have somewhat of a tropical ambience (if anything because it gets so damn hot). The dance floor is on the small side and on Sunday nights it is BUMPING!
DJ Tony O, one of the Bay Area's longest-running DJs, brings the party here on Sunday nights, playing the best of commercial salsa, merengue, bachata and reggaeton. This is definitely one of the hottest Latino parties going on all week.
A friend of mine, Big Rob of SalsaMania Dance Company, does the beginner lesson at around 8:30. Rob is crazy and full of enthusiasm and will bring your sexy back in no time.
One thing I noticed about this place is that even though the clientele is far more Latino than other salsa clubs (e.g. Cocomo, Glas Kat) everyone is so friendly. I've had complete strangers buy me Coronas on multiple occasions. This is one salsa club where drinking is de rigeur - bring your hollow leg and prepare to bump and grind.
What I like about this place is that people actually come here to dance not to get hit on. Yes it is a bit crowded and once the DJ played the music so loud that it made my  ears ring but I still come here every once in a while for the music and the fact that its one of the few places that have salsa nights.
I should also mention that before 9pm on Sundays  they have dance lessons. The classes are not packed most of the time which is good especially  for those who are wanting to learn but fear looking foolish in front of a large "experienced" group.
To me salsa is about movement and feeling the music, not only steps.
So put on your dancing shoes and come out.
Salsa night is on sundays only
Price for cover is $10-20 (average)
This place has good music, and that's about the only good thing about this place. Â They play the music too loud, my ears were ringing after ten minutes and I had to stuff napkins in my ears to stand it. Â The place was packed, to the point where the fire marshall would of closed the place down. Â The trek to and from the bar was like an adventure because it took so long. Â The worst thing was that I waited a good 30 to 40 minutes for get three drinks. Â They tried to make it up by giving me a free shot of patron, but still, where people are waiting on you for there drinks, that doesn't make it up. Â Overall, if the people that own the place manage it better, they can make the place better, like I said good music is a start.
