This place has been RE-OPENED... I think new owners/management, but the same name. It look almost exactly like it did before, maybe a little bit cleaner.
I took a look at the butcher shop in back and a few things caught my eye. For one, there was home made slaw from nopales cactus in the cooler (nopalitos?) , with a little carrot and stuff mixed in. Another thing they had new in there were small blue crabs... looked pretty fresh too. Might have to boil up a few of those suckers one weekend.
Anyway the grill is running again up front and cranking out tacos for lots of happy customers.
I love many types of ethnic foods, but Mexican food has a special place in my belly (and intestine . . . ok -I'll stop there). Â Those who know NW Chicagoland, know that we have a significant Hispanic population, and so the competition for your food dollar is pretty intense. Â With the exception of Taco Hell, ya just can't serve slop and get away with it. Â I love this place. Â BEST damn tacos ever. Â Try the al pastor, or my favorite - the stuffed pepper with shredded chicken (yes - served as a taco). Â Unbelievable. Â I defy you to find a better taco.
Review Source:I remember the first time I had tacos here. I thought maybe it was just because I was hungry, but they were the best tacos I've ever had. I've been back many times over the past few years. I still think the tacos are unbelievable when the meat is fresh, but many times the steak is grisly. They do a high volume so the meat is often on the grill for a long time. Also, the few things I've had there besides tacos have been decent, but nothing to write home about. Â I like the chile relleno, pastor and steak tacos the best.
I've only gotten a few things at the grocery store and they were all good, but I'm not an expert on supermercados.
This is a hidden location. Â The hot food service is located in the Grocery store. Â I had a steak taco and it was very good. Â The steak was tender and cooked just right. Â They have very good salsa to put on the tacos.
It is located 1 block from the Crystal Lake Metra Rail Station.
I will be back!
