This is an upscale tapas bar that has more of a big-city feel to it with curtains around the tables, back-lit bar, dimly lit ambiance and a stay for awhile feel. While this is wine bar, I only tried the martinis which were well made and half the price of the popular martini bar down the street. They have music nightly (at least while we were there) and outside tables to enjoy the night air. The tapas were excellent and chosen from back lit menus (again another cool big city item). Overall an excellent stop.
One odd addition I liked in addition to the regular bar and table seating was a section of the lounge that was built on what I guess are crates. And on top they have a couple of cushions. So you are up high, leaning against the wall sitting at a table that is adjusted for the extra height. I thought that was a cool addition.
STOP! Seriously, just stop looking for "that place" with great live music every night of the week, fantastic food, and the most attentive wait staff because you have just found it! I am aware this sounds so cheese ball, but my husband and I are so in love with this place. The ambience is so hip and swanky, it's our little escape from the real world. Being a complete foodie i would say that the duck confit flatbread is our fave..and the wino that i shouldn't be they have an excellent selection of wine...garnacha in particular...Yum! Craig...aka..el hefe...is such a doll and the C6 girls have made us feel like family. I've sent quite a few of my clients there and they have all been treated just as well and adore as much as we do! We will continue to go back time and time again!
Review Source:Ate here one night on vacation in historic St. Aug's. Â It was a slow night on a Tuesday after the fourth and my wife and I loved it. Â We had the tuna salad (ahi) prepared perfectly. Â She had the sirloin entree and I had the Mahi quesadilla. Â Phenomenal food great service by Meghan and incredible ambiance a stones throw from constitution plaza. Â Can't miss on a date night with the wife.
Review Source:We were so excited to discover this little gem in St. Augustine. Swanky yet cozy, fancy but relaxed, it just fit our mood perfectly. In fact, one of the bartenders there introduced me to my new favorite drink, the Hot n' Dirty. It's just a Dirty Martini with a splash of Tabasco (or Sriracha!) but boy is it good and so different! Unfortunately, we had already eaten, but after perusing their menu I wished we hadn't. I'll definitely be back soon for dinner!
Review Source:If you're looking for Old World ambience and a funky atmosphere for dealing or romance, Cellar 6 is your destination on Aviles Street in a largely non-touristy (dare I say, European-feeling) cobblestone-laden stretch of downtown St. Augustine. The restaurant's philosophy on lighting alone is worth a peek: there's very little overhead light, so the restaurant makes up for that with an amber-glowing wine wall behind the bar, illuminated menus (think Timex Indiglo) and dashes of blue on the bar and under tables. Very neat touches.
If you're up for a bottle of wine and people-watching, there are few better in this ancient city than Cellar 6. And live music on weekend nights sweetens the deal. The menu features a variety of tapas (small plates), salads, burgers, flatbreads and the occasional entree special ($18+).
However, if you have a food allergy or an inclination to pull a Meg Ryan every once in a while, good luck. My girlfriend was eager to try the fish tacos with corn tortillas (she's gluten-intolerant) and placed her order, only to find out several minutes later that the restaurant was not using corn tortillas anymore. A great excuse to update that menu ... or at least run out to Publix or the minute market to make the customer happy. There was no suggestion of another entree course ... just a shrug from our server and a half-hearted "I'm sorry." The filet apparently was pre-marinated with something we felt was suspect, so that was off the table. And a burger without the bun? Why bother?
The tomato bisque, however, was excellent, so we enjoyed that as our first course, her wine, my beer and headed to another nearby restaurant for the main course.
I have to give Cellar 6 three stars for the ambience, and if they had worked with us on the gluten issue and attempted a more can-do attitude, I might have considered another star or two. To be fair, if ambience is your priority, you can't do much better. But in customer service and going out of their way to make you a priority, get it together, guys.
Cellar 6 is one of our somewhat-recently-discovered regular spots around historic downtown St. Augustine. Â It's beautifully decorated, dimly lit and cozy feeling inside, and the last time we were there there was live music playing -- appropriately, a duo with acoustic instruments performing at a volume that still allowed for easy conversation.
There's a reasonably good wine selection, but on our last visit we decided to try a few of their martinis (the large selection of which makes me question the poor reviews complaining about the lack of liquor) and not only were the martinis amazingly good, they were a couple of dollars cheaper per drink than our favorite neighborhood martini bar.
Cellar 6 Wine and Sangria Bar is a sultry and sophisticated indoor and outdoor wine and sangria bar.It is also located on one of the oldest streets in the nation: Aviles Street which is brimming full of history and ghosts according to St. Augustine folklore and history. I am always asked by visitors, who come to St. Augustine, where to go for food, entertainment, and attractions. This place kept jumping into my mind on and off for months. Finally after reading about it and passing by it a couple of times, I decided to check this place out at night and was well received. Even on a rainy day, this place vibrated and glowed with energy and guests. Bryan, who helps the owner, Craig Colee, run the place, showed me an impressive menu of a vast variety of premium spirits and informed me of the weekly specials. Tuesdays you get $10 off if you buy a bottle of wine. Thursdays you get unlimited Stella Artois for a flat fee of $15.****** I'm sure these drink specials are subject to change and more will be added in the future.******* Great place to bring people, who love live entertainment, the ultra lounge ambience, and the night life. Looking forward to bringing friends and acquaintances here in the future for fun and spirits.
Review Source:I give it one star because at least it served wine (no liquor) kind of. We order a bottle of Italian wine and they were out. Ok, how about the other Italian red? Not so much out of that to. Well the server tried and allowed us to sample a few....
So it calls itself a tapas bar but IT ISNT. Even the server said it is a different kind of tapas. I still don't know what that means. If your looking to order say 3 dishes and share with someone this isn't the place. A dish here is an entree and is for one person sorta. How can you have a 6oz filet and veggies and call it tapas? We also got ahi tuna, shouldn't you be able to cut it with a fork? Not so much. Pass try another place and save yourself from a bad night.
The tapas are okay. The entertainment is usually pretty good. The decor is awesome! It reminds me of one of the cigar & wine bars (sans the smoke) in Old Montreal. It reminds my boo of a wine bar in Europe. So basically, it is a special snowflake in the heart of St. Augustine. Go there if you are too damn classy for Panama Hattie's and actually want to enjoy a proper Lounge.
They will get the fifth star when they start mixing cocktails.
My friends and I dropped by this hidden place on a Saturday night and we enjoyed ourselves. The atmosphere was relaxed and serene. The live band played a few unexpected songs from the nineties grunge era which was done tastefully. We had a chance to settle in before the servers came around for our orders but once they understood that we'd take care of them our party got underway. We had a great time here!
Review Source:This place seems really unfortunate. Or at least our experience here was. We went here based on the good reviews we saw, and the Groupon they had for it. Seemed like a perfect time to bite. We made a reservation for 8, and the place was reasonably crowded. Seemed like a big college crowd, or younger 20-somethings for the most part. We waited for a table, then were told it was ready, only to have another server seat another party there and told us we had to wait. Grumble, whatever. I think we had to move again after we finally sat down. It was frustrating. The food was not bad, but definitely not worth the price. I remember laughing out loud at something we got (probably the cheese plate?) because it seemed so low-class and worth about a tenth of whatever the menu price was. I don't think we'll be back to eat here.
On the bright side, the ambience of the place is really nice, and this would make for an OK spot to chill out with some drinks and conversation. The location on Aviles is really nice. Just don't bother with the nosh.
We had a lovely evening out with friends at Cellar 6! The food and beverage selections were very good. So why the 3 stars? The service left something to be desired. It took around 15 minutes after my friends got their wine for me to get my sangria, even though we ordered at the same time. It was hard to get our server's attention, although she was very busy, so we understood. They could stand to have one more server out on the floor!
On the plus side. The chips with blue cheese, bacon and balsamic reduction was delicious! Generous in portion, perfect for sharing among 4 people. My fish tacos were very tasty and filling. I especially enjoyed the cilantro sour cream. My husband's Margarita flatbread was tasty and crisp. One of our friends had the Lamb Burger and loved it! Very flavorful and not dry as another yelper had experienced. The only less than stellar dish was the Ahi Tacos. They were not bad, just nothing memorable.
The atmosphere was hip and cozy, hard to find in St. Augustine. The location is definitely tucked away on one of the cutest streets in the Nation's Oldest City.
I will definitely be back, but will try to make it on a less busy day than Saturday night on Easter weekend!
I really wanted to like this place! Â After being seated, moved, reseated, moved, and seated again despite our reservation I was maybe expecting the service to be apologetic, or at least attentive. Â Too bad. Â The cheese plate arrived without description, the fish tacos were just OK, and the tempeh spring rolls were not unlike what I make at home. Â Eh.
Review Source:I can't believe I've been in St. Augustine for over a year now and have not gone to Cellar 6 until last night.  Its such a sophisticated, cool little spot for St. Augustine.  Great eclectic menu of tapas, burgers, beer and wine.  The light up wine menu was such a swank touch.  My Lamb burger was a bit dry- i think over done, but the house made potato chips were super good.  My husband ordered the blue cheese burger and it was the best burger we've had in a long while.  The white wine flight featured generous pours, and the bruschetta & flat bread pizzas were really quite large and beautifully presented.  I was really surprised by the space inside, nice tall tables, lots of seating (though by the time we left at 9pm  thats when the place really filled up and people were milling around waiting for tables to clear).  They understand mood lighting too, something I think many of the restaurants here don't get- so much harsh dinner lighting, but not at Cellar 6.  If I had to nitpick I think they could use some acoustic tiles on the ceiling to cut down on the echo-ey noise of all the diners.  Overall we will for sure be going back and often.
Review Source:We were looking forward to trying this place. Unfortunately, we had terrible service. Â We had to remind them our name was on the waiting list. Â We were forgotten for a half hour after seated. After we finally got to order our Tapas it was a two hour wait to get them. Â It wasn't that busy and they were just glorified horderves. Â It should have been a half hour at the most. Â At least the food was good when it finally came. Â The tables around us were complaining about their service as well. Â Two parties who came in later got up and left because no one would take their order. Â There was more, but that's enough ranting. Â It seemed like the staff were a bunch of buddies who wanted to run a night spot but didn't have a clue how to pull it off.
Review Source:Okay I would rate higher but the waitress grossed me out - she constantly ran her hands thru her hair and never washed them she then went on to mix drinks. A food order came out she took the chopsticks out of the wrapper she still had not washed her hands. Too make matters worse she kept rubbing her hands on he'd ass - to make sure her dress didn't ride up. Â
I ordered the red house sangria if you like dry red wines then you will love this. I was there on a Friday night live music good size crowd. Wine a 3 music a 3.5 but overall because of waitress a 1
I hosted my friend's Bachelorette dinner party at Cellar 6 & I cannot believe how accommodating, courteous & just damn fun the entire staff is at this awesome find.  We printed menus, decorated & completely let loose & they welcomed it all.  The food is excellent - a wonderful artisanal selection of cheeses with figs most notable, the ambiance so chill & a really great cross section of tourists & locals gather seamlessly.. I will definitely return on my next trip to St. AUG.  Thanks again, to Bryan, Chef  & the entire staff for making a fantastic memory!!
Review Source:St. Augustine hardly has a hoppin' night life. Â Thanks to Yelp, I found this little gem tucked into an alley behind Potter's Wax Museum. Â I enjoyed sitting in the hip atmosphere for a glass of wine and dessert (try the bunt cake with ice cream!). Â They had some pretty good live music last Thursday as well. Also, their coolness factor was drastically increased by the light-up menus. Â
I'll definitely be back the next  time I'm in town - maybe even for dinner one night.
Edit: I have to change my initial review from 5 to 2 stars. 2nd experience a year and a half later was not nearly as good. The food was ok, service was not good and we likely will not come back. Casear salad that my wife ordered came out warm and unappetizing. Other dishes were passable but didn't seem to be worth it. We were both really disappointed as we had been looking forward to our return visit to Cellar 6.
Previous review below:
Awesome. Tucked on a small side street, you will not find it unless you are looking for it. Good wine selection, food was great. Service was excellent, attentive but not obtrusive. The atmosphere was unexpected for St. Augustine, felt more like a cool bar you would find in the city. Live music was good. Overall we had a great time and will likely return before our trip is over.
Probably the coolest place that I spotted while in St. Augustine this past week. Cozy wine bar nestled on a great historic road. This street and certainly this wine bar have less of a touristy feel as the rest of historic downtown, and it was clear that there was a lot of thought and effort put into most of the interior, including some really nice woodworking, lighting, and either originals or replicas of antique furniture from the Breakers Hotel. Our server was excellent and informative, helping us to select great wines. I can't speak for the food because I was only there to drink. The jazz band was pretty good too. Two small complaints: the tables are far too large for a comfortable conversation and take up a lot of space that could be used to seat additional guests (necessary on the night we were there). Also, nix the strange resort art on display (including breaking waves, beaches, Florida stuff). It really was out of place and detracted from the overall design aesthetic. This is a relatively new establishment, and I hope it does well because I plan to come back next time I'm in town.
