Cellar Dweller is one of Tulsa's best kept secrets. A curving staircase down into the basement of an apartment building lets you out at a cozy little wine sink with warm mood lighting. Have a seat at the bar or one of the tables or booths in the intimate space. Then order up a glass of wine, an old fashioned, or a $5 shot and PBR special.
Parking is very limited, but so is space inside, so I guess it evens out!
Great atmosphere if you're feeling like enjoying a drink or two and not dealing with a big crowd. Prices are great too! Don't try to order anything other than the basics though. They make a killer old-fashioned, but couldn't make a sidecar (said they couldn't) or a decent gimlet (they tried but it wasn't that great). I also wish they'd open a bit earlier. They don't open until 7pm so happy hour isn't an option.
Review Source:The only thing that sucks about this place is the random hours. I tried going in the other night after my hotel bar closed around midnight...I made it all the way downstairs and the bartender started yelling about how she was closed and that the door was supposed to be locked....even tho it was midnight and there were a couple people sitting at the bar. 4 other people came down and tried to get in, too. We were all ran off.
Review Source:One of Tulsa's best kept secrets. Was sad when they closed and elated when they re-opened. I always visit when I'm in the downtown area. Â Very low key. Â Stiff and great priced drinks. Â Good to go to just hang out with a small group of friends.
Some people complain that there's no beer on tap, but in a place like this you should be drinking some classic cocktails instead. Â Although their bottled beer selection is pretty good.
Sometimes it gets a bit crowded and then the ambiance is lost.
The last time I went to Tulsa I asked some locals what bars I should hit up. Someone mentioned this place but no one apparently knew where it was. The Cellar Dweller is a great little secret bar, if you can find it. It actually is in a cellar and they don't have much lighting down there so it is very intimate and its pretty small too. No smoking so you'll have to go upstairs & outside. I would not recommend this place if you have a large group of people as you'll probably take up the entire space.
Review Source:If you're looking for a place that's smoke-free with an intimate but inauspicious and unpretentious environment, this is the perfect place. It specializes in being the quintessential neighborhood bar that's inviting but unassuming (being in an actual cellar).
It's a great place to go with a small group of friend's or even for a happy hour or nightcap by yourself. It's very dimly lit which adds to the mystifying aura of the place but it's well worth the visit.
Drinks are good and moderately priced, and the bar staff and patrons are friendly.
I'd thought this place closed a while back, but learned from a friend yesterday it was open again. Â He was on his way there, and I'd just gotten off work, so I decided to stop by for a beer. Â Here's where the weird part kicks in... Â I used to live a few blocks from Cellar Dweller 15 years+ ago and spent many a night there. Â Last night I couldn't find it to save my life! Â After half an hour of driving around downtown and walking within feet of the entrance I finally found it with the help of my friend who was there via cell phone. Â
The place is tiny and the crowd (last night) was very cordial. Â The really nice thing about it is it's so small large groups would avoid the place. Â It's the perfect bar to hide out from anyone from the Mob to the IRS. Â Not to mention you'd probably have a great time doing so!
I was walking from McNellie's back to the Doubletree and noticed the banner for Cellar Dwellar. Â I was tempted (since it looked so "out of the way") but did have some work to do at the hotel. Â But there was a guy on his phone outside that made it sound fun...and downstairs I went.
Physically...a wonderful little basement hide-a-way in an unassuming buliding (another review said office building, but it looked residential to me). Â Subdued red lighting and a feeling of being miles away from reality.
The nice, young pregnant bartender was accommodating and the crew of regulars seemed comfortable. Â But the cell phone dude that waved me returned and was freaking out about the regulars and how they treated the server. Â I'd inadvertantly sat next to his spot and got to hear his opinions/complaints while I quickly finished my beer.
Probably a cool spot and I would go back, but that dude gave off a weird vibe.
