Ate there on Friday 8/31/2012 and it was horrendous. The fish ordered was way over cooked and very, very dry. The salad ordered was terrible for $14 and a scallop dish ordered by another person was sandy, gritty, and horrible. No one was happy. This is after a 50 minute wait to get the main course. This place can do better and we are not thrilled with food quality and the service. Shame on them!!!
Review Source:Cena 2000 is probably my favorite northern Italian restaurant in the central Hudson Valley. Â The restaurant is located in row of restaurants on the Newburgh waterfront and faces the Hudson River. Â I've dined there with family and friends on many occasions and never been disappointed by either the food or the service. Â The antipasti, the salads, the pasta dishes, and the poultry, lamb, and veal dishes are all prepared and presented in a fresh and creative manner. Â If you like pasta dishes, the black pasta with mushrooms, lobster, and tomato and the spinach and ricotta ravioli are particularly noteworthy. Â The staff have always been very helpful and attentive. Â It's a very pleasant experience to dine out on the patio on a summer evening and enjoy the views of the river and mountains. Â Cena 2000 is a little pricey by local standards (but a bargain compared to NYC prices) with most entrees ranging from about $20 - $30, but well worth it.
Review Source:Food good. Service bad yesterday a beautiful Sunday afternoon (Fathers day) decided to sit at the outside bar for a drink and some seafood. Â The bar tender was very nice but it seemed like he could only wait on one customer at a time. Â The bar was not overly crowded still empty seats. Â We were served but a family was sitting at a table behind us they waited about 20 mins than the man went up to the bar and asked if there was a waitress or if he should just order from the bar. Â The bar tender said he would be right there to the table to take their order. Â Mean while we were done asked for our bill which took 20 mons to get and the whole time the bar tender kept yelling at a runner for his steams. Â "Where are those )&@@ steamers" he kept saying. Hello you have customers here!! It seems
Those steamers were about 45 mind late. So a little more than a half hour went by we got our check paid with credit card signed it and left. As we were leaving the family was still sitting there and still had not ordered. It was not that crowded. Â In side the restaurant when I went to the ladies room all I could hear were people complaining about the slowness of the food the wait staff were chatting and the kitchen was in no hurry. I am not sure all the problems are with the wait staff the kitchen is very very slow with not a care and no manager around no one to move things along. Â Noticed this on two separate visits as well.
No doubt Cena 2000, is one of my favorite spots for  civilized dining (white table cloths for outside protected tables) with a soothing view of the Hudson in upstate NY.. The bonus is excellent  pastas ,fine creative  seafood dishes and a good wine list.. As starters large grilled shrimp  or  grilled calamari are always fresh. The pasta dishes are exceptional falling in the 5 star range. The large menu includes specials every night . The staff is accommodating, polite and always responsive to special needs. We have been coming to Cena for years ...it  seems to get better every year. Depending on your wine choice expect to pay  at least $ 110 for two  with 3 courses.Because of the magnificent  view, getting up from the table at the end of the meal  has always been especially difficult.  If it were not for some "minor glitches" in the past, Cena 2000 would be worthy of the same 5 stars that I will give to its sister restaurant, "Il Cena Cola".
Review Source:Terrible service. Â We are true supporters of the water front restaurants but one cant overlook terrible service. Â We visited the night before Columbus Day and the host casually arose from his outside seat next to his mate. Â It was about 8pm. Â We were seeking a table for two and did not have a reservation. Â The host advised it would be about 15mins. Â We accepted and advised that we'd enjoy a drink at the outdoor bar while we waited. Â He wrote nothing down and proceeded back to his spot at the outdoor bar next to his mate and had a few cigarettes. Â It was apparent to me he'd dismissed us from the get-go and proceeded to forget about us as he enjoyed his smokes and a chat with his buddy...all the while wait staff were clearing and breaking down tables. Â Perhaps they had a very good day and were not enthusiastic about additional patrons at 8pm. Â What I do know is that such arrogant and rude service will never see my money again. Â We left after a drink and walked right by the host's perch while he continued his smoke-a-thon and fat chat. Â He acknowledged nothing. Â If management reads this....do something. Â If the host is management, you run an awful business and I would never endorse potential patrons your way. Â We are locals and frequent the waterfront year round. Â We continually try to give Cenacle 2000 a chance but enough is enough. Â Service folks....hire better people, they are limiting your potential.
Review Source:To be fair, I visited this place in September 2009, before I'd head of Yelp. (I did write a contemporaneous review on TripAdvisor) But the service was so memorably offensive that I feel compelled to share it here.
This was the worst service that I have ever experienced at a restaurant. After a 45 minute wait for a table, our party of 3 was seated outside, as far as humanly possible from the beach, and practically in the parking lot. Despite the fact that it was 8 pm, the waiter brought us lunch menus, stating that the selections were the same as at lunch time, and we should just add about $2 to the price of each item. The waiter then disappeared for so long that I forgot I had not ordered. He eventually came with our drinks and brought a bread basket with exactly three slices of bread in it, and took our food orders. It was all downhill from there. Â We asked the waiter three times over at least span of a half an hour for more bread which he never brought despite walking by our table at least six times to service other tables. Â We had to twice inquire about the status of our appetizer during this same period, to which the waiter made a snarky remark about the other 240 people that he allegedly had to service.
By the time the entrees for our party of three finally reached the table, an hour and a half had passed since we'd been seated. Â During that time we were not once asked by the waiter how we were doing, or if he could get anything for us. We had already spoken to the manager twice about how slow the service was. We witnessed several parties that arrived after us, including a party of 7, where a diabetic woman threw a tantrum about the slow service, be served well before us. The only attention that we did receive was from a really confused waitress who continually brought various salads, entrees, etc., ordered by other tables over to us because she had no idea what tables she was serving.
It was only as we'd reached the end of our patience and were getting up to leave (and admittedly starting to make a scene), that the food (one fish entree and two pasta dishes) was magically ready. Â Only then did the manager offer to comp the drinks and the appetizer based on our hour and a half wait in order to persuade us to stay and eat. Â I was so angry and so hungry by that point that I was literally shaking and refused to eat. Â I stayed only for my companions who were starving and had to catch the last train back into NYC. Â There was not much else open in Newburgh at 10:00pm on a Sunday night.
This is the WORST service I have ever encountered at a restaurant. Â Even two years later, I have yet to find a place to top how truly bad the experience was.
My wife and I love dinning with a water view. Cena 2000 on the Hudson is one of our favorite places to eat. The service is always great and the food is awesome. The menu has an Italian Mediterranean feel but there are always many specials to pick from as well. My only complaint is that there wine list needs to be updated. I hate having to go though 3 bottles of wine be for I find something they actually have.
Review Source:I would've given this place more stars if the service had been better. It seemed like our server had either too many tables or just didn't know how to manage the tables that he had. There were SEVERAL instances where we were left for long periods of time before we were even allowed to order! My friend's fiance tried to flag him down and he literally saw him, and then ran away from us. This kind of service is unacceptable and will literally be the reason I most likely won't come back here again. If I'm spending 23 dollars on a pasta, you better have at least decent service.
That said, I'm giving this place 2 stars for it's romantic scene. Although it was a little chilly on a May night, I'm sure this place would be great on a summer night. The third star is for the food. The pasta was fresh and good and plentiful. I'm really sad we experienced such bad service. My friend said that she had also received poor service the last time she came here but thought it might have been an anomaly. She was upset to see that it was the norm and I'm sure this will result in her coming here less often too. Such a shame.
One of the best Italian meals in memory. After looking at this place longingly, my parents and I decided one warm Sunday evening in September to take the plunge and eat there.
THE FOOD: out of this world. The best Italian I have ever had, hands down.
THE DRINK: Top notch again. The wine was execllent and the martini was well executed
THE SERVICE: Very attentive but distant enough not to be intrusive.
The restaurant is very expensive but is worth every penny
Went here for Mother's Day dinner with my boyfriend's family. Â He had made reservations to sit on the outside deck but when we arrived they sat us inside. Â When questioned about our reservations for outside the guy said that the table was dirty and they did not feel like cleaning it up since they do not sit anymore tables after 7:30 (it was like 7). Â Not really make sense of his reasoning my boyfriend's father silpped the host 20bucks to sit us out there and he changed his mind (big surprise!) Â It took about 10minutes for them to get the table ready but once we went outside it was well worth it. Â The view of the Hudson River was amazing! Â Had a cosmopolitan which was a good balance of cranberry and vodka. Â We had wine as well which was as far as I can tell very decent. Â Food was very good. Â The table shared appetizers: eggplant rollatini, fish salad, and a prosciutto plate... Then as an entree I had angel hair pasta with tomato sauce and it had lumps of crabmeat - it was very nicely presented with the cleaned out crabshell standing upright and the pasta overflowing from the shell onto the plate. Â Everyone seemed to enjoy what they had and as a desert I had the mango sorbet which was very refreshing! Â The service was horrible.. the waiter was a bit rude and seemed like he had no time for us and was very abrupt. Â I want to go back because the view was beautiful...
