If you live in Reno and looking for a cool, and inviting watering hole, then look no further! I cannot believe we didn't find this place earlier, we are moving in a few days :(

Walked in and instantly felt like I was in some sort of Irish themed movie. It's small and cozy, warm and inviting. The bartender and server were both friendly and attentive, empty glasses were quickly replaced with glasses of delicious brews.

There was also a group of musicians playing instruments, violins, guitars, flutes...It was quite entertaining, and at one point a woman got up and performed a traditional Celtic dance.

They were out of the Cider on tap when we went. My fiance and I love ciders and we we were both pretty disappointed, but I guess now we have am excuse to go back before we leave!

Some friends, my girlfriend and I stopped in here last night during a midtown collective and we had a blast!

We came in and found a table to sit while our friend got us some drinks. Once the drinks made it to the table, an older gentleman that was working came and ask for our ID's and was VERY nice and funny. He was cheerful and kinda teased us for "trying to act old" (we're all mid 20's). I'm always appreciative when asked for my ID because I feel like the establishment is being a responsible contributor to the local economy.

Shortly after a waitress came and took a drink order and I asked for a red or brown ale and she brought me a Smithwick's Irish Ale. I've never had it before but it was very good! I'll definitely be looking for this more often.

While having the drink I started to take in the vibe of the place. Everywhere you looked there were smiles and friendly faces. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. There was a live band playing called The Clark Brothers. Two guys playing very authentic sounding Irish music. One song I think was a well known folk song because there was an audience participation part where everyone was clapping in unison. The bar (and even the bathroom) was very clean and the decor was relevant to the Irish pub theme.

Overall we all ha a blast and we will be going back, hopefully often.

Best Irish pub in town. I never miss their St Paddys Day Celebration.... although I wish they would always have it on Saturdays and not Sundays for us working folk. Thats my only gripe

My wife and I love Ceol! It is our first choice when we want a whiskey and a beer. It has a true pub atmosphere with a large selection to chose from. The staff is always friendly and the service is great.

The place is really big with several different areas: secluded dart area, bar counter, and an open area with lots of tables and a stage for live music. Cody, our server, was very nice. Really, my only beef about the bar was that it was too bright. Dim the lights!

This review is mainly for the Pub Quiz. Pub Quiz is every Thursday at 8:30. (The website says 8 but our server told us it starts at 8:30.) The place starts filling up so it's good to get there around 7:30 if you want a table, especially if you have a big group. The limit is 6 people per team. It's free to play.

Anyway, in my mind, there are three main problems with the quiz:

1) There needs to be an award for most creative team name. Let the bartenders and servers decide which one they like best.

2) The MC reads the winners for each round, which is fine, but she should also read the three teams that are winning the quiz overall.

3) Each round consists of 7 questions each worth 10 points and 1 bonus question worth 30 points. Needless to say, the bonus questions are super obscure but if you don't get at least two, you cannot be competitive. Get rid of the bonus question and just make some more questions for each round. It would be fine if some of the questions in each round were more obscure than others but don't give them a 30-point value. It takes the fun out of the game.

I only moved over from Ireland about 4 years ago and I love this place. Probably the best Irish bar in town. Great pints and great atmosphere. Its hard to get a good pint of Guinness in Reno but these guys do their best. I really like the selection of drinks too. They even have Magners (Bulmers) which is a rare find.

Had an awesome evening with my girls and we watched one of the coolest Blue Grass bands ever. Great Brews and excellent food with a Bartender that rocks! Highly Recommended...

Probably the best Irish pub in Reno, certainly the most fun.

Thursday nights are pub trivia nights, and they regularly feature bluegrass and Celtic music. Lots of beer on tap. One of my peeves is ordering a Guiness and getting one drafted out of a keg that is old and won't hold a head. Never a problem at Ceol -- always fresh, every time. Nice selection of Irish whiskeys and single malt Scotch too. They don't do much in the line of eats, but they will order from Noble Pie Co. (and maybe a couple of other places) and add it to your tab for you.

Happy hour here is great! I came with a bunch of people from my office and had an Irish coffee and Hot Apple Cider, all of which were under $7 and in large glasses. They also have an extensive whiskey collection.

The servers were friendly and there was a popcorn machine for constant snackage. They also have live music most weekends and trivia on Thursday nights. Ceol definitely seems like the bar to be at.

My favorite bar in Reno, hands down! Staff is awesome - they always make you feel so welcome and never forget a drink order. A great place to drink (best Irish coffee I've ever had), relax, play darts, listen to live music and munch on some popcorn. If you haven't been, definitely give it a try.

The general manager of Ceol, Ron, is an ace at customer service and customer relations! I sent an email to the info@ceolirishpub.com requesting that the pub order a bottle of Aberlour A'bunadh single malt Scotch (try it, it is excellent). I not only received a speedy email reply from Ron via email, but a few days later I received a voice message from Ron telling me that the distributor had sent the wrong kind of Aberlour but that he was working on getting the correct one to Ceol even though he was spending a lot of time at his new place Fuego.

Ron did two things immediately with his interaction with me. One, I can't wait to get back to visit Ceol which is one of my favorite pubs anyway. Two, Ron made me want to go to the other place he manages which is a tapas bar called Fuego http://www.yelp.com/biz/… . I have never been to Fuego before and I haven't heard much about it, but finding out that Ron manages it makes me convinced that it is great.

Thanks Ron, I look forward to seeing you again! Great job!

I always feel welcomed at Ceol. The bartenders and waitresses are fun and friendly, and they always make an effort to remember you. My favorite drink here (I only order it when it's cold out) is the Cherry Car Bomb. It's like a cherry-flavored Bailey's hot chocolate with whipped creme. Sooo much yum!
Their Thursday night trivia is one of my favorite things to do in Reno. It's crazy fun, you can go with a group of friends,co-workers, whatever, you win awesome prizes, and you can order food from local restaurants.
Great live music, too. Good times at Ceol!

Best Irish pub in town... PERIOD!

Bartenders are awesome, they remember you and what you drink. Spent St. Patty's Day there this year and it was such a great night!

Thursday's are fun trivia nights. They don't serve food BUT they have great relationships with all the food joints around them, and you can have anything delivered to you! It is pretty awesome!

This place just makes you feel welcomed.

Upon moving to Reno last month I immediately searched for an Irish Pub, and thoroughly appreciated the great reviews of Ceol. So I decided to check it out.. And although I dont yet know anyone in the city yet I decided to venture stag and see how comfortable I felt. (I do not normally go to bars by myself, just not my thing).

I had a 3 day weekend so I went in on Thursday about 9pm. Fairly easy to find for a newcomer to Reno. Get on S. Virginia and look for the WILD ORCHID titty bar. Ceols is directly across the street. Parking was sketch.. seems like a busy night might find you parking a distance in what is a very dark alley side street area.. I am not sure how the crime is for the area but if I were in my familiar cities I wouldnt feel comfortable in that area. Anyways.. found parking and headed in.. every table was taken and the bar was completely open.. so I parked on a stool.. and grabbed the first beer that caught my eye.. the barman was good.. quick and precise.. good small chat but didnt get too involved.. my kind of joint.. Angelique, one of the servers was very nice and took care of my orders both nights I came in.. they both introduced themselves and shook my hand which I thought was very cool.

The second time I came in.. Saturday.. was awesome.. great live music.. there were a couple random groups that came in that definitely didnt belong there.. they were the clubbin crowd.. and should have researched a little better before walking in.. Ceol's is a pub.. its well lit.. clean and friendly. Its inviting of good conversation and new company. Take your drunk 22 year old friends that cant control themselves elsewhere.. this isnt the place for you..

The Guiness is perfect here.

I've known Ron, the owner of Ceol, for years now, from back in the day when we both worked at Mt. Rose. He is a great guy, and that really translates into Ceol. Its another of my real favorite bars in Reno. Every trip I make home, I always make a trip there.

My favorite memory of this place is New Years Eve one year. Ended up there with my date, several of my buddies, and ran into Ron. Ended up partying hard into the night, maybe a little too hard. Woke up in an abandoned apartment, and after checking to see if all of my internal organs were intact, I spotted my buddy across the room, equally passed out. I am still unsure of what happened, but all I know is I woke up with the hangover reminiscent of a good time.

Great bar. I advise you go there, and drink heavily.

I love Ceol! The bartenders are always friendly and prompt with their service, and they even go the extra mile to get to know you on a first name basis. I love the fact that it is a pub with NO TV'S! Instead of drowning in a beer and becoming a zombie, I sip my beer between the many great conversations! The place is always clean (especially the bathrooms) and they have fun events like Trivia Night and live music.

I love this place. Trivia on Thursday Nights, great drinks, incredibly friendly staff, and although they don't serve food they will help you order it so you can eat a pie face pizza or jimmy johns while you enjoy your drinks. Also, kind of weird but their bathrooms even on busy holidays are extremely clean, you don't expect that in a bar.

Love the atmosphere here. It's rowdy enough on weekend nights to be a fun time, especially with live music and games, but a nice venue to visit with a small group on off-nights, with a calm, cozy feel.

They have an excellent selection of beers available on tap, especially Irish varieties, which is a favorite aspect of mine when visiting. They have everything from pale ales to darker stouts, and they're all great.

Service varies, of course, depending on what day and time you go, but it's consistently friendly, no matter if it's a rush or just a night off.

Parking is always an adventure on weekend nights, since it's downtown with street parking down the alley, but I've never not been able to find a spot fairly close. Just definitely lock your car.

Great place! One of my absolute favorite pubs in the entire city.

I enjoy the Ceol Irish Pub. Calm, friendly bartenders, excellent tangerine beer and good Irish music on Friday nights. Beautiful bar and atmosphere.
The crowd is a mixture of middle-class 50+'s and young college, hipster's. A good bar to relax and socialize in.

So I was researching best bars in Reno for my vacation and Ceol came up tops on lots of lists.

I was beyond skeptical.

I'm Irish. I love me an Irish pub. But I hate, hate, hate the Disneyfied "Authentic Irish Pub" experience (I'm looking at you Fadó) that have popped up in every city, village, hamlet, strip mall and airport.

Ceol is not only a true Irish pub. It is a great one.

Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great top shelf whiskey (half price on Wednesday's), mostly locals there to have fun. And I never felt like I was going to turn around and see a Leprechaun mascot chucking out t-shirts.

Well worth the trip if you are in Reno.

This place was great. The atmosphere was fun and the beer selection was awesome. I went on a Thursday night for trivia. The girl hosting was fun and funny. Unfortunately, they cut the trivia short because there were too many people in the bar. This is one of the reasons I pulled back from a 5-Star rating. If you're going to have trivia at a bar, shouldn't be to get people in there?

I did take advantage of their order out in the bar type thing. Since Ceol doesn't serve it's own food, they have a couple of menus for other places that you can order from. They add the cost of the take out to your bar tab. They didn't, however, break out the prices too well. At the end of the night the waitress told me I had $25 in food and about the same in alcohol. The pizza I ordered was only supposed to be $15. So, I figured they added some gratuity that I didn't know about. This is the other reason I pulled back from the 5-Star.

Overall, the place was very cool and I am sure that I'll go back.

Walk just a few easy blocks beyond Casino Land and you reach the sanity and sancitity of Ceol, an Irish Pub with good drinks, friendly service, intelligent customers, and dedication to Irish music that is manifest in the live performances -- that we didn't see.
We walked down because of this Yelp review list. We found the Yelp recommendations to be "Spot On!" This place rocks. We stayed for a half hour, then walked back to the clubs for the Eagles game. Vick blew it.
However, regardless of the sort-bots at Yelp, Ceol is NOT a sports bar, NOT a sports bar, NOT sports bar.

So much fun, so relaxed, and so easy to lose track of time here. A good friend turned me on to this spot, and I'm glad she did! There's no smoking inside - though people litter the back entrances on the stairs, which really makes it inconvenient for someone "allergic" to cigarettes (as my doc says) to get in comfortably. BUT WHATEVER! Ceol is so fun that I just hold my breath and waltz on in! It's worth it!

If I could afford to, I'd go here every weekend just to hang out. It seems as though it never has the same kind of crowd a lot of the other bars seem to have around Reno - young, stupid "kids" or annoying people. It carries a more mature atmosphere.

Plus, you can order food to be delivered (they don't cook there, but they've got take-out menus for you to choose from) and they'll just put it on your tab for you. It's excellent!

They also have a trivia night - I forget which night it is, but it gets pretty crowded and a bit loud. It's still fun to play along - just sit closer to the stage so you can actually hear.

This ginger kid loves Ceol's.

The first time I went here there was a table filled with musicians who played all night, including one guy who would stand up at times and sing acapella ballads. No, not 80's rock ballads, but legit Irish ballads.

They make their Guiness with little clovers on the top which appeals to my girly side (if I could I'd put a heart over the I in girly), the service is great, and they have free popcorn during happy hour (please don't tell me if you've ever spit in this).

Plus, I love that everyone else there is pale too. And if you're not, you're not cool. Down here it's our time!! It's our time down here!

Freckles? Red hair? Pale Skin? hey sweet...you'll fit right in.

There are a few things that make this pub appealing:

First and foremost, the awesome live Irish band that plays regularly. Holy god, if ever you want to feel like you're in some small Irish hamlet dancin a jig and breakin in a new brogue, this is the place to be.

Secondly, the diversity of the patrons. Ya gotcha grizzled regulars (who really aren't grizzled in the "mean" sense, just more chronic drinkers but still totally friendly). Then ya gotcha post-college crowd (the types who've outgrown Imperial's foolishness but still appreciate a good beer on tap and a social atmosphere). And then ya gotcha newbies. Which, let's be honest, every bar's got 'em. But this combination just makes for a really neat atmosphere, because they've all got one thing in common, they all want to be in a traditional Irish pub.

Who knows what that says about everyone but....hey, it's a commonality.

Plus, service here rocks. Do it.

This is a great bar. Good selection of tasty beers, fun music, plenty of room to find a place to sit, and you don't smell like an ashtray when you leave!
Our bartender, Kevin, was great. Really nice and attentive, even with a full bar. Even after my friend and I had a few drinks he was still willing to answer all our silly drunk girl questions.
Just wish the parking was better. If you're lucky you might get to park in their poorly lit lot, if not you're choices are across the street at the Wild Orchid or on the street.

Yes! This was the place that I had been to while visiting Reno way back in August. Of course, forgetting any significant details outside of "I wasn't arrested", generally means that the pub provided a good night for all.

4 stars because I'm not a 21 year old asshole anymore, and I appreciate good shit.

This place is super chill and laid back. Always have music, either played on speakers or live.

Full bar, really great service.

Parking lot behind the pub is pretty easy.

Not usually too packed, very comfortable for a relaxing night to hang out with friends.

Has a dart board too. :)

Enjoyed my visit here the other night. Service doesn't get any better. Busy, almost crowded at 9:30, but easy enough to get a beverage. Atmosphere was super friendly. Live music was good, a bit heavy on the fiddle playing and light (meanng none) on traditional Irish ballads. Don't get me wrong, fiddle was well done, I was just in the mood for something different. Others have mentioned upscale and I'd agree that fits the decor. Cozy wouldn't be a word I'd use but friendly certainly applies.

Upscale and friendly aren't two words you usually put together but when you add Irish pub to the mix, you've got a winner.

Ever poured your own Guinness from the keg? Neither had I until I went to Ceol's! It's much more fun (and difficult) than it sounds.

I have a blast every time I go here. The servers are nice and unobtrusive and are always helpful at suggesting a new drink to try. They have a good drink menu for whatever mood you're in.

Make sure you check out the live music!! It's well worth the visit for that alone even if they didn't have great drinks.

Fyi: Try the black velvet - half guinness, half cider - it's delicious if the guinness alone starts to get a little heavy for you. The irish carbombs are pretty smooth as well.

If you like old seasoned Irish bars, well this isn't one of em. It is a Nice clean upscale new yuppy type bar with an Irish Theme. Not the seasoned old Irish bar you will find outside of Ireland in NY and Boston (cities with large Irish populations), but this is Reno and It is what it is and it is OK with me. I like my dive bars but I can enjoy an upscale place like this and enjoy some Irish beers and booze and Irish music. I had a Smithwick's, Harp's and a Guinness. They have a great selection of Single Malt Scotch and a good selection of Irish and domestic beers and Beers from other nations. The bartenders and waitress are friendly.
Happy hour $3 for a Smithwicks. Works for me.
I will be back to catch some Irish music.

Based on the yelp reviews I had to check Ceol out while in town for the weekend. It did not disappoint. I'll definitely be back when in Reno.

The bartenders are friendly and the environment is cool. The selection of import and micros on tap pleased me greatly. Black and tan on tap is a nice touch. The bartender said Kruosvice will soon be on tap as well.

Ceol is a great place to meet friends for a pint!

I love a great irish coffee. On a cold day in March, I had co-workers in town who were staying at the Siena. I had a cold and wanted an irish coffee, thinking the whiskey would make my throat feel better.

I wasn't disappointed! It had a nice creamy foam on top flavored with a coffee liquor, which made it a bit different. I can't stand a place that makes an irish coffee with canned whipped cream, and figured they would have a good one here.

There isn't any food available for purchase. However, I chatted with the owner and he said that they would run up the street to Blue Moon Pizza if they aren't too busy. Apparantly Butcher Boy caters in here for happy hours on Friday nights occasionally as well. That is another review (Butcher Boy) that I need to write!

Love this bar!

I went here last Friday to see a bluegrass band called the Rusty Strings... they were great and so was this place! It's clean, comfortable (no smoking inside), and the bartenders and servers were all very nice and very attentive.

There are plenty of places to sit, and also room in front of the stage for dancing. Lots of good Irish beer on tap and plenty of room in the bar to bring all your friends.

I will go back here without a doubt.
